Hi, is rogers my account supposed to keep working after root? Mine shows my usage from last month since i rooted my x10.
I know it should work because i rooted my gf's spica with 2.1 and the app is still working.

Yes, it will still work. At least it does on mine.
There definitely something going on either it's the root or Rogers are having problems, mine show 0k download, supposed to show any transfer done excluding the last 4 hours, I used my 3g quite a lot this month, so there is something going on..

Glad to see i'm not alone, the usage on rogers.com is off also. Seems like the problem is with them. Have you checked your rogers.com account?

Edit: Hmm. Mine too. It wasn't like that when I first rooted. Oh well, another month when Rogers screws up my billing somehow.

One question, today they fixed the problem, for me and my gf, as weird as it's gonna sound, both of our phones battery drained in half a day... Funny thing is, we dont have the same kind of phone!
Could it be related? Or could it be because of the heat?

The code from it is what Regaw used in his thread on how to root 2.1. I just downloaded and it is an apk. I'm still rooted from 1.5 but it appears you can download from your phone and run the app and then you have root.

i dont know if it works for hero users, but ive read quite a few success stories over at the evo forums.
I had a sneaking suspicion that the key to rooting the Hero was going to be tied to the Evo. The Evo gets rooted soon after Google I/O and they held the code back to get it done until evo release day, which makes sense. I'm quite happy with how things are looking. When I eventually scrape the pennies together to get the Evo I'll be able to root it easily.
That's going to be a lot of pennies. I told one of the guys from work I was getting the Evo and he was like "son of a b!tch" I can't afford one right now, but the look on his face was funny.

I can get one at new subscriber rates in 11 months. I'm hoping that in 6 months the Evo is old and busted and there will people dumping it for brand new hotness. What I'd really like is an Evo specced phone without 4G or it's upcharge.

Plus 1 on that! I'm not unhappy with my Hero though. I AM sort of regretting getting the Hero, because now I want the cool new phones! Actually, I'll blame it on the Instinct and being on the everything family plan, which give me premier account status, where I get the full upgrade every year...

if you read his rooting guide, you will see that they collaborated.
did it root with 2.1, or with 2.1+the ota update that was recently released?

I too did this, but now my Hero won't update the weather and I can't access the market...something about a data connection error.

unrEVOked is a one-click-root tool by mmastrac who also got a lot of help from the likes of toastcfh, maejrep, and some other guys.
The exploit behind the tool is the exact same one used in Regawmod's root for 2.1, just the boot.img was patched to play nicely with our phones.
Then again, I don't see why this is in the development section.

Is there any chance this has messed with my Hero? I can't get online and weather won't display or connect. I have done multiple soft resets. Is there something I am forgetting to do? I downloaded and ran the unrevoked apk.
try loading a custom rom.
or call customer service, Sprint shut off my data for now reason last week and couldnt tell me how it happend.

Well, I did another soft reset, but this time pulled the battery and waited several minutes. The network access came back, weather started working again, etc. So then I downloaded/installed wireless tether and started to play with that but then the network access went down again. I can't figure out if its Sprint getting screwy or this phone
IE, by getting a text/notification on their phones and not downloading from the link...can you please post where you are and approximately when you received your notification?
I just want to see if there's any kind of a pattern.
I think some of us prefer to just wait for the notification, rather than download it and have to jump through hoops for one reason or another, and those that haven't gotten it are probably wondering why and when they might.

I'll second that, but my theory is that the server might be going by date of purchase- oldest first... I got my G2 just shy of 2 weeks ago, live in CA and nothing yet-
Just download it and put it on the phone. There are no hoops... it's super easy.
you can follow the instructions in my OTA thread (which was apparently moved to Android Dev.)...
I was going to wait for the OTA update initially but I came to the conclusion that it was going to take a while before I received it...so I updated manually.
Very simple process, nothing can go wrong & you'll notice a great performance boost in the phone itself.

I agree took maybe 10 min to do it all.
i just did mine manually why wait till u receive the update.
in terms of finding out if some1 in ur city has gotten it and what not... as far as i knew from the g1 updates, they were sent out randomly. it didnt matter if u were the 1st person in the world 2 get the phone or last.
this is what i have heard and read from my g1 days. supposedly it was a random thing.

I got mine yesterday... very early. I preordered the G2 so... there might be something to that guess of date of sale. Who knows though? really, just download it from the link. Any newb can do it in like 10-15 minutes. no need to wait...
Its completely random. My wife and two friends got theirs on different days. I just said f it and manually updated

If I were T-Mobile, I would actually try to *ensure* that the OTA goes out in a geographically random manner. Geography would be the one of the *last* places I would look for any sort of pattern. It's probably done via IMEI #s.
When I checkin it just says it checked in and that's as far is it goes.

I checked in many times and it doesn't really help unless you have been out of service or had the phone off... it will come to you when its ready checking in doesnt really help any in my case... I checked in over and over and over... this morning on the way to work the update just came... made my morning!

It won't notify you of the OTA until it's done downloading it. To see if it's downloading, go to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates. If the checkin works, you should see it downloading there.

This morning I woke up about 10 minutes early by a faint light on the floor, it was my screen on full blast lol, with the words, "Upgrade radio etc etc blah blah." O went ahead and click yes and accept and about 10-15 minutes later it was done.
Havnt noticed anything yet, I hope my once every 2-3 day radio loss will stopp happening. Ill drive home and when I get home my radio will be off (no reception) and airplane mode if off also, nothing has been triggered. Only way to get reception back is to restart. Since it only happens once every 2-5 days I dont consider it a big enough deal to bring in. Especially since i dont have dead pixels and i have a strong hinge.
So I am having issues with my G2, the quality in calls is horrible, and been getting worse. (Voices on other end cutting in and out, but the other party can hear me just fine)
SO I called T Mobile, and they are sending me one free of charge(Bare-bones, just the phone, I keep my battery, sim, sdcard, etc)
MY QUESTION IS: Before I send my current G2 back to t mobile, should I put it back to main factory settings??? (I have visionary, gscript, setcpu, etc.) I don't want them to see that, and them be like you voided it, so now you have to pay for two phones.
So do I set it back to factory, and if so, how do I do that, so they don't know I rooted it? I'm sorry I tried searching the forums, and did not find anything.

You may as well, just to be on the safe side. Plus, that way it'll erase all of your personal information from the phone before they receive it back.
Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset
The issue you described sounds like a network issue, don't be surprised if it continues on the new G2.

Well the thing is, all of my tombile phones(G1, Cliq) ive had before this, the reception was fine. Also while Im on my G2, I have full bars, and the other end can hear me fine, they are just coming in bad.
Doesn't that sound like a speaker issue????
I also think it is a network issue. I'm having similar problems, more with data right now as I'm not making or getting very many calls on this new number. I'm on my 2nd G2 BTW

Is the screen protector that came with the phone still on? It covers up the front speaker, I'm sure you figured that out...
The ear speaker is not centered on the phone i seam to hear better with the left corner of the phone to my ear hope this helps you with your new phone

im on my 4rd replacement 2 days ago. 1st day after receiving it, it worked fine. However, after the OTA the next day i now experience the same problem with my 3rd hand set which is drop calls, data signal jumping from H to E alot and never stable. i dont know what else to do but to keep it for another few days and see what happen if it doesnt get better guest it be it for G2

I'm right there with you. I might try another replacement but I think I'm going to get the same thing. Going back to T-Mobile tomorrow and see how I feel.
I'm rooted, and on 1.8.3 I believe.
Everything was working out fantastic, and literally one hour to the other one I stopped receiving texts. I have everything backed up, and I'm wondering if I can just reset the phone without having to flash it back to stock settings.
Anybody have the same issue?

Are you running any call blockers? Also have you tried to pull the batter while the phone is on?
Yeah man, I took the battery out and rebooted the phone.
Called AT&T but they can't help at the moment because their system is down, etc. I kind of just want to go back to stock and update, etc. I'm just wondering if I can do that from my phone or not?

Yea I went through the headache of flashing 1.26 than rerooting etc restoring called att and they said its a tx outage and should be back up in 24hrs to72hrs

I live in Los Angeles. Haven't received a SMS message since 1am yesterday. I can send SMS but can't receive them. I can send and receive MMS messages. I don't know of anyone else on AT&T out here that is having this issue.

It's in the midwest too, my daughter and all of her friends were up in arms on Facebook that they couldn't get/send texts last night.
My friend who lives in NC could not receive messages nor send them since the 5th of June until yesterday(he called AT&T and had it fixed) after he realized that the problem was not with his IPhone.

Same problem here in FL.
It affects some smartphones but not others. Some iPhones but not others. ATT has no TTF (time till fixed)
I just received the ota for 2.3.3 and cannot find a thing anywhere about that has changed. I have noticed the facebook integration is not there and I now have mediahub. Ither than that I am finding nothingness.
Someone please help me out with this. Its getting me really irritated.
On another note there has been one bug I noticed was fixed: the screen going all tweaky when you try to type when its plugged in.

Yep. I didn't know either. I have no service where I work and when I git in my car and got like 2 miles away I saw a download in progress. Low and behold it was 2.3.3. Build # is 3.0.1.E.0.88

I'm hopping on the Verizon Site now, and i'll see if they'll be so kind as to respond in a forum (sometime) about this update.
Yea my phone tried to do it as well. I stoped it though because im unlocked and on an rooted/debloated stock rom and worried it could cause problems. Not that I could not fix mind you, but it would requre me borrowing a computer as I do not have one
If anyone takes the plunge from a similar position I would love to hear storys

I'm not sure how I feel about the included version (3.6.84.26668.26670.1638.Verizon), since it's missing the custom dictionary of added words. The overall look is different, which is fine, and I like the numbers having the top row.

OTA (you need to be on data, not wifi)
Update: After playing around a little bit, I realized i have slightly better signal!
Note: tried fastbooting and unlocking bootloader, but all i succeeded in was draining my battery...
Now it's time to try gingerbreak...
update: tried gingerbreak 2x for 20 minutes apiece, on a non formatted then formatted sd card, and got nowhere ...
