hi i currently have a iphone 3gs, i like the look of the nexus 1, but is it worth it over the 3gs
its apples (pardong the pun ) and oranges mate.
If your happy with the iphone dont swap unless you are aware of the short comings and faults with this handset and are happy to manage with these til fixes come along.

How about you go and SEARCH on the internet to read up on the phone. There have been ten times more articles about the Nexus One than the iPhone in the past couple months.
Coming here and asking is an obvious attempt to get a rise out of some of us. While some may be dumb enough to get sucked into your attempt, I'm not.

No **** what a jerkoff... anyways... I think its better simply cause everyone and there brother don't have one... main things vs the iphone is iphone shows Gif files/Pics and n1 dont.....
Limited storage for apps as can't save Em to sd card without rooting.... iphones can't expand on memory or can't remove or it can't remove the battery either....
Nexus one has no issues to me.. I think the 3g issue is a load of horse and my video of my tp2 having a 3g issue around this forum proves it.... now dust under the screen is a issue for some thankfully not me...
Its really a great phone, #1 right now imo.

I for one completely agree with this guy, asking this question at this point in time is simply idiotic, not to mention he is asking it on a NEXUS ONE forum section. Where more than half of every person here will believe that this (the Nexus One) is more superior. I also agree with the claim you are trying to start some heated discussion among the community with a simple question that can be answered with a Google search, as there have been 100s of Nexus vs iPhone comparisons.
Decide for yourself, you obviously have a brain. I hate things where people ask should they get this or this, cause it is only up to you and only you as to what you want to buy with your money.

Onto your question of what the weaknesses of the N1 are. Here are the higlights of complaints in general (I have never owned an iPhone, this is just a summation of posts on the forum):
- The market is still growing and the overall app quality is not on par with the iPhone market.
- The iPhone's interface is more intuitive
- The N1's antenna/wireless stack has some problems keeping 3G signal in weak coverage areas.
- The speaker phone quality is utter ****e.
- Exchange support is weak, but improving
- No support for Cisco VPN
And some of these can be debated either way. I am merely summarizing common complaints.
If you research and read you will find the various strong and weak points of the N1. Might I suggest you lock this thread, read the forums throughly, then if you have specific questions on the N1 post them as a stand alone (vs comparison to the iPhone which will be rated as troll bait.)
If you really want to compare the N1 to the 3GS froma N1 users perspective than I would suggest going to the google forums. They are a little more forgiving.... a little.

Htc new answer to evo 30fps limitation..

I sent several complaints to htc and got response from different reps.

"Thank you for your reply. You are correct that the Sprint EVO 4G is locked in at 30FPS. Since the HTC EVO 4G employs a unique HDMI output to deliver video in HD quality to an external display, the hardware graphics driver interface on the HTC EVO 4G uses significant resources for the HDMI output and therefore displays graphics at 30 frames per second on the integrated display. This is a hardware, and not a software, limitation. It’s important to keep in mind that content including most movies and television, are created to run at between 24 and 30 frames per second. The 30FPS is a hardware limitation. This should not present a major issue for most Android applications; however, the customer may have some issues with some 2D or 3D applications. We have also found that some games may be impacted by this limitation.
The device has been locked at 30 FPS due to enhance overall performance in the device. By lowering the FPS of the device the CPU works less. This increases the battery life of the device. There may be third party options available to remove this limitation; however HTC does not condone the use of, support the use of, or offer technical assistance with regard to these third party solutions. I do apologize for any inconvenience you may have experience."

Yeah but if you actually read other sections on this site your responses have already been given to other people by HTC. These are not new, we have heard them before. This really should have been rolled in to the other pre existing threads. Why would you not post it in the general section and ask if it should be placed in development? I think I know the answer to my own question....

Well this is a development forum. There is a slightly higher standard here and if you can't follow some basic rules then you have no business posting here.

Those are pretty clear to me. Pretty easy to follow for anyone with a brain stem. No one expects perfection or you to write source code the fastest but at least read the ****ing directions and follow the basic rules of our home.
This had no business getting posted in development, it has no business in general when there is a massive 600 something or whatever posts on this exact same crap. Not to mention multiple other scattered threads.
Best part is there is already a hacked solution to this with working camera / everything else working, that at least for now is more than enough. So anyone that really gives a **** already has the fix and this isn't even an issue.

I spent 20 seconds Not wasted mind you I knew what was going to ensue after I read the OP's post.
Each and everyone one of you have done this when you are new to a board. You only learn from experience. We were all NOOBS at one point. We didn't graduate to Geekdom overnight.
When I first came on here I was treated like a red-headed step child for not understanding how to ROOT. I read and read and eventually learned how on my own mostly due to the RUDE responses from some of the people who thought they were entitled to treat newcomers like 3rd rate citizens.
I have given my share of smart assed remarks and have called people out on some things. But when someone new posts a relink or asks a question that they could have searched for I just help because its no BIG deal.
Yes you can say they are lazy or perhaps you might have to consider they are new and aren't well versed in searching. Who really knows. If they are repeat offenders then call them out otherwise its just a simple post that anyone can choose to ignore and not contribute.

I don't think tech knowledge is the issue here and in other threads. I think the issue is forum etiquette. And on a tech/informative forum, the standard should be a little higher than that of a lounge type forum. People should have informative titles (which this one does). Posts should go in the relevant thread (possibly an issue on this one). Searches should be made before making any new thread. And content should be relevant, accurate, and informative (I'm guilty of that first with regards to this post). It can be a delicate balance between over regulation and under regulation. The forums with the highest signal to noise ratio tend to be over regulated but there is such a thing as going too far and pissing off your membership.
There is one forum that I am a member of and have been so for about five years now and I have not made one single post. I am a very outspoken person and I still have not posted there. Why? Because I haven't had anything extremely relevant that will bring knowledge to any of the threads I've seen there and if your post doesn't "bring the tech", you're banned. That's possibly taking it too far but I can say that it is one of the most well behaved, most informative forums I have ever seen. If I just want to hang out and shoot the breeze, I can do so on other forums. So, I just linger and watch, as newbs should do, until I have something to add.

Please. Just get over yourselves. It's a good thing that new people are coming to the forums. That means the Android community is growing and moving into more mainstream. Educate and direct people... don't spank them. Otherwise, you'll send them right back to their friendly iPhone forums.
Sounds to me like some 35 year old men need to get out of their moms basement and meet people face to face and learn how to treat others.
Holier than thou attitudes will run people away and along with that the innovation that comes with new ideas. I've been in many environments where a closed loop could not resolve an important issue because they were addressing the issue as they always have. It took someone new looking at the problem, with different experiences, in order to resolve the issue in the best possible way, if you don't like it, or your pride gets hurt, then you probably don't need to be part of the team.
I have also known people who could give Einstein a run for his money, but because they lacked the people skills, they couldn't get in with any major position enough where people would listen, they usually got sent to the corner of R&D and played with obscure possibilities.
As you can tell, I hate arrogance, and because I don't post much in this forum, doesn't mean I can't kick your ass in every other aspect of technology, worldly issues, and life in general.... So put down the mountain dew, and get up out of the basement, and maybe just maybe, you'll find that your high horse isn't high at all.

I am definitely sending my tablet back - no refund

Hi all!
I experienced a couple of issues with my tablet, but nothing crazy as far as now. I was still considering an exchange instead of a refund.
I have a faulty jack port, bad speakers balanced (corrected after root), and like every body else, bad battery monitoring with the dock losing charge while doing nothing. Some light bleeding, but minor and I didn't really cared. Oh and also, bad LED lights behaviour on the dock, which may be corrected with a dock firmware update, or not.
Anyway, the even worst surprised today is that my power adapter is dead. This is too much for me. I am really disappointed by Asus quality. Honestly, I can deal with some software issues, I can admit that such a complicated design like a tablet may lead to a faulty jack port (and even that...) but, really, a wrong design in the power adapter TOO ? How such a common and basic thing can go wrong ? And it is not like I have done something crazy with it, just plug it on the main to charge the dock/tablet and that's it. After 2 weeks, dead.
Asus, maybe you should reconsider some bits of you engineering process and especially the quality checks parts.
So my decision is taken, I will send it back and that's it. No more TF101 for me. I may wait for the next generation (October ?) hoping that the first generation was a test but maybe not. I will see. I liked the tablet.
We are not talking about a $1 toy and I clearly expected another quality paramount.
This is sad, when it works properly the tablet is good for the use I am looking at and the keyboard with extended battery is simply smart and useful. When you can charge it...

You listed some issues that I forgot about. You're lucky you're taking the easy way out. TD doesn't allow refunds so I was forced to send it in to Asus on my dime. Counting all of the issues this device is plagued with will run you >$100.00 in postage alone to send this POS back.
Now I hear the B6O revision is better and it makes one feel like ****. B6O should have been what the device should have started with. They ripped everyone off.
We are not talking about a $1 toy and I clearly expected another quality paramount.

I think that I was part of the fanboys when I firstly received my tablet/dock. But each day was a new bad surprise.
On the good side, amazon does a very great job. They pay back everything : product+shipping costs+cost to ship back and insure it. We cannot expect better that having a product we don't want to send back.
fanboys are an unfortunate part of forum life. if you think they're bad here head over to the archos forums. you cant say one bad thinb wighout someone telling you it's your fault and that your expectations are too high. i rma'd my archos 4 time befor giving up and getting transformer. While i love my tf, i did exchange my first one for light bleed and dead pixel. current one is not perfect,but well within my tolerance level compared with my archos.
i think qc is a problem across the tablet spectrum right now. for the price i do think the tf is the best deal going.
that said ignore the fanfoys and do what in righg for you. the acer is not as nice and a little heavier, but has better build quality for the price.
How do you tell what revision you have? Is it printed on the exterior of the tablet? Ie, can I check something like that while I'm in the store easily?

Funny, I seriously considered the iconia before getting the TF, just knew that I could not live with the screen as I often work with my tablet in direct sunlight and there is quite a difference between the iconia and say the TF or galaxy tab 10.1.
Sorry you had many issues with your machine.....for what its worth, I've boughtAsus products for 15 years and they are usually good quality, but every manufacturer has issues here and there. Hope it works out for you :-D

no anyone who pops into every topic that is discussing an issue just to tell everyone that either the problem doesn't really exist or you should have researched more, or what do you expect for the $, is a fanboy. also they tend to reply to posts asking about quality with comments like.."there are almost no issues,ignore what you read about issues, only the few with issues actually post, so they look more common than they are".

The serial number is on the bottom edge of the tablet, near the charging port. It's also on the back of the box, along with other info and some barcodes.

Yep ... sums up my sentiments too.
Not a fanboy. I have a couple of small issues with my unit but, to be honest, i have similar issues with laptops, tvs, cameras, phones also. Problem is with sites like this you often start to notice things that the average Joe wouldnt even spot.
What Im getting fed up with is posts telling us that people are returning their units ...
Check out the Apple forums, or the Xoom forums, or the Samsung forums. EVERY item has faults. Maybe technology is moving too fast for production quality to keep up ? who knows ???
Ive found XDA great over the years, and the forums are very helpful. The problem these days is that the forums are getting clogged with people who seem to think everyone is interested to know that they are returning their unit ?? why do we need to know ??? utterly pointless and just a product of the Facebook era probably ....
Seriously ... if you have a question... use XDA. If you have an issue ... use XDA. If you just want to tell us whats going on in your life PLEASE use facebook.
There are lots of people who want help and want support - or people who genuinely have hints and tips. Problem is you cant see their posts as they get lost amongst all the other drivvle people post.
Hopefully you will find a unit that suits you but I assure you that every unit is prone to problems. Show me a forum for any item of any make or model where nobody has found a fault or ptoblem and ill eat my hat.
Also, let's cut this hypocritical nonsense out. If someone posted a thread about how much they loved the TF none of you would be raging over it. But when someone posts a thread about giving up on the TF you're all raging over it and how inappropriate it is.
The statement that these kinds of non-technical posts don't belong on here is laughable when you consider the double standard. The number of people who have left is far greater than the number of people who have made threads. I've been watching this forum for a while and I can tell you right now that the number of "I'm leaving" threads that have sprouted are far too little to warrant your kind of response.
You act as if there are twenty per day, all clogging up the main page. This is certainly not the case. This is not a major epidemic.
To think two different people can't make a thread on their experience and why they're leaving is absurd. This isn't four threads discussing the same tip on how to reset the the device. Each story is unique and therefore a separate point of discussion.

The easiest way is to look for the black sealing tape on both sides of the box. The B60K,newer version, will have black instead of green tape.
The problem that I have is that there are bizzilion threads on here with people *****ing that there Trasformer is a piece of crap. Everytime someone wants to complain they start a new thread which is getting a little out of control.
I have complaits about the Transformer but I did my research first. I knew there were problems with it just like any new product.

You listed some issues that I forgot about. You're lucky you're taking the easy way out. TD doesn't allow refunds so I was forced to send it in to Asus on my dime. Counting all of the issues this device is plagued with will run you >$100.00 in postage alone to send this POS back.
Now I hear the B6O revision is better and it makes one feel like ****. B6O should have been what the device should have started with. They ripped everyone off.

Apart from the usefull threads, can the mods wipe this and QnA board completely, it's painfully how much people are moaning about problems. I don't think I've seen a phone been complained about so much
This happens on every launch, should've seen galaxy nexus' launch with people whining about old SoC, crappy camera, pentile display and what not. Don't think they'll wipe the board as they haven't ever done that yet.

Most posters will wait till they actually have the phone to start posting. Once they do, these garbage opinion threads will naturally start drifting to the bottom. It's more under control than it appears. Give it a couple weeks after launch and we will be fine in here.

Different type of idiots will buy this phone and decide to root it just out of curiosity.
Then they will bombard "Development Forum" with unbelievably ignorant posts. Developers leave because of this. It happened in Galaxy Note forum and I'm sure it happens with every single forum nowadays.

I think it happens to all phones now days. Keep on mind that millions of devices are activated everyday so its becoming increasingly harder for XDA to enforce all the rules (like search before you post etc etc) and everyone is a volunteer, so you know ? Times are changing I guess we better get used too LOL
But god knows I agree with you,even tho I only signed up like 2 years ago I remember coming here way before that just to read, everyone here was so knowledgeable, and far ahead of my skill level, it just made me refrain from posting and look stupid ! My first device was the HD2, the forum there was nice and helpful, ROMS where actually good and everything, Getting WP7 activated and messing around with ICS
Moved to the SGS1, pretty much same thing, a lot of new stuff was coming along at my end of the device (Gamerzrom ect)
Moved to SGS2, started off well, then everyday was a new ROM that was basically stock with 'speed mods' and 'improvements made all around' and an ugly skin
Im hoping the N4 will have a somewhat good developer base and not idiots making a themed ROM everyday.
Anyway, this is going to be a painful 6 days till I can order it ):. I will see you lot then

Earphones rip off

So after I got my note 4 today I called customer service to inquire why they took them out unlike other carriers.
First person blamed Samsung, then best buy and I shot that down. She sent me to corporate, that person stalled and said I would have to ask her boss.
Third level guy is cool and was actually nice about it. I said I just wanted to voice my opinion and that was all, and that I was going to give them to my son because I didn't use them.
Anyway I started to end the call and he stops me and offers to lower my bill $20 a month. I said that wasn't my intention but of course I would accept.
Today was nice, got the phone half off then bill lowered $20 a month even though I told him I just wanted a straight answer and it was no biggie.
And he did admit that it does appear they do that to encourage customers to buy headphones and that was what I wanted to hear. It only took being transferred to a 3rd level boss.

That's really interesting -- and very nice for you! Just a side note: the Developer Edition shipped directly from Samsung without headphones.

all the power to you for voicing your opinion and walking away with a deal, though.
but if you want better headphones than the garbage samsung makes, goto amazon and spend ten whole dollars on a pair of jbuds. problem solved.
(and for me, verizon sold the note 4 off contract for 50 bucks less than other carriers and didn't have headphones, so hey, if that price was a part of verizons deal with samsung to get the phones at a cheaper price, then good on them, and i fully agree with their decision to not include garbage headphones.)

Having been in sales/retail management and a district manager I was wanting some entertainment with the call because I already knew the answer, just wanted to hear it.
Also, my little girl was in the emergency room for the second day with a deadly issue, so it helped me not completely freak out

I noticed when I opened the box at Bestbuy there were no headphones and just made that comment to the Samsung employee selling me the phone at full price. She said I'll give you some. I wasn't looking for any but I took them and as usual....they do suck.
I am more concerned that people actually use buds packed in the box...... Especially if a music fan. I wouldn't even listen to Nickleback with in box buds. Ewww.

well I for one happen to like the headphones I got with my s3 and s4, the s3 ear buds especially. I returned a pair of $200 earbuds because they weren't doing it for me the way the s3's earbuds were.
and I'm very annoyed the note4 didn't come with any. it's certainly not like they subsidized the phone and had to make cutbacks, the phone is $850 off contact, I expect gold plated headphones and an extra charging kit for that kind of money ffs... give me my damn headphones.
p.s. and while you're at it, did you cut back on the box too? this is my first galaxy box I'd have no reservations throwing away.. what happened to that inspired by nature crap, I want another wooden box like my other phones came in. k now I'm done
We got an email survey asking about our upgrade experience, and i did comment that i thought it was crap removing the earbuds, and a week later we got a call from the Samsung rep for our area apologising about the issue, and letting us know free earbuds for both our phones were waiting for us at best buy, where we got or phones from. Is read the trashing of the ear bud quality here, and was expecting to toss them, but they are much improved over our old galaxy s3 earbuds, so we are using them now, and love them.
The sound on the note 4 with the new earbuds is definitely better than the sound on the old s3 with its earbuds. The only thing i hate is that volume excess warning you see when you have the earbuds plugged in.
There was an option to turn that of in cm11...is there and option to turn that warning off on the note 4?

there isn't but it's standard across all custom Roms/ first thing done with xposed, because EVERYBODY hates it.. sigh can't wait for root
