re: capacitive search fucntion - EVO 4G General

re: capacitive search fucntion
i have my browser settings for view in "mobile" mode checked to off. when i first got my EVO and did a search either via the search page in sense OR through the capacitive search button my results always came back in "classic google" view format. at some point though, something changed. now, no matter what setting i have on my broswer view settings ALL search results come back strangely formatted with most of the images missing from the screen. i wish i could use shootme to post a photo, but after the update, it's not working. but if i go back into settings and change the view to check "view mobile" then it will format correctly in "mobile" view mode.
i like using classic mode, does anyone know what went wrong? or is anyone exp the same issue? even if i go to the bottom of the page and click "classic" it doesn't stay that way when i do a new search.
any ideas?

Home page

Stupid question I know, but when you open the browser, is there no one click other than opening bookmarks that will just go to your homepage, and also is there a refresh button?
I've not been able to find either. The lack of refesh is very annoying when you are looking at thing like football results.
no, as shown in another thread, there is no home button. like you said, use bookmarks, or open a new window. Daft but that's what were stuck with at the moment.
As for refresh button, yes there is.
press menu to show the address bar at the top, and on the right of the address bar is a button that changes from refresh (when a page is loaded) to stop (while a page is loading)
Thanks..
Strange they let you set up and change the homepage but not the most basic function of getting there. As most of the time it's left on the last page you were on and doesn't revert to home? Oh well. Another one for the updates.
As a sidenote, how do you guys feel about the applications you download having access to :
Phone calls, read phone state
Hardware controls
Network Communications, full internet access
etc
etc
Why would something like Shazam need all this info about phone calls in particular
I have igoogle as my homepage, all i do is put a shortcut for igoogle from bookmarks on my homescreen and use that as my browser.

Getting rid of mobileview in stockbrowser?

Hi everyone,
i think thread title says it all...
I already hated this stupid mobile view of websites in my Android smartphone.
Now it sucks even more on my tablet. i want to see webpages in desktop view style. I have found no way to change that in the stock browser.
Only in the Dolphin HD browser I an choose wether I want mobile or desktop views of website. And it even works. But actually I would prefer the stock browser.
Thank you.

Try This:
1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter (it will appear that nothing changed).
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state.
That should make it load the "desktop" versions of websites for you!
any chance of getting this change to stick? It seems that I have to change this every time I start the browser.

You change this once and then the change wil persist
only sticks until you reboot, kind of annoying wish someone could write a script or something to automate this.
Sorry but either will lose setting periodically for no apparent reason. Absolutely needs to be automated.
i would love this too..

[Q] google.com 'tablet view' issues

Recently, all of my google search results default to presenting in "tablet view" mode. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but when I'm in that view, it's very difficult to click on links. I have to press 4 or 5 times to finally trigger it. Other pages don't present this issue, and "classic view" on google.com works fine - but I can't get it to stay in that mode. It switches back to tablet view automatically.
Anyone else having this issues? Any hints on how to get it to work, or how to force it to stay in "classic" mode?

No history button in stock web browser?!! Please help

Ever since 4.3 update S4 stock browser no longer has history button in settings. It shows all other options like print, brightness, desktop view, incognito mode, find on page, etc.. but no history.
So my question is How do you access history?? I like using stock browser. Any way I can do it via address bar like in chrome (chrome:history)??
Maybe there is history log text file somewhere within root/data/data/browser.apk?? Im fully rooted but see nothing
Ahem, pressing and holding back button doesn't do anything
Any help is urgently needed and will be appreciated
Thanks

Press the bookmarks button in the top right corner and you should see a history tab on the right.

Chrome Dark Mode for Note 8

This only works with Android Pie and the newest version of Chrome so if you haven't already go to the Play Store and update it. It may work with other other Android phones but not sure. Ok so open chrome and type in the address bar: "chrome://flags" You don't need the quotes and submit it. A new page should come up that brings up hidden settings but don't get ahead of yourself. In the search area that says "Search Flags" search for "Dark"
This should bring up two results:
1. Android web contents dark mode
2. Android Chrome UI dark mode
Number 1. Will turn the contents of web pages to Dark mode friendly. (I didn't care for this too much as it turns a lot of pics and things negative colors.)
Number 2. Will give you the option to turn on the UI Dark mode but after enabling it you might have to reset Chrome and you must go to your Chrome settings (the three dots on the upper right) then to the tab that says "Dark Mode" and turn it on. This will turn your UI Dark including the Google home page and settings tabs. (Pretty much as indicated.)
After you enable any of this you may have to close and relaunch Chrome. You should now have a Dark UI that's easily turned on and off. I have attached a few screen shots of some examples of what I'm talking about. If any of this helped you please leave a thanks.

Yes, I know it can work with Oreo but it has issues. One issue was once it was enabled via the "flag settings" turning off and on the Dark Mode UI in settings wouldn't toggle properly no matter how much you used the on off switch. You would have to run the "flag" again and turn it on and off that way which was too much of a pain to have to keep explaining or getting comments on. Maybe it was just the phones with Oreo I have as it did work just not properly. Either way if it works for you great.
