How to stop phone turning off when USB is connected? - Galaxy S I9000 General

I got my galaxcy yesterday and have a problem when the phone is connected to the PC with USB. The screen keeps turning off after 30 seconds and the connection is broken. Is there a way to keep the screen or connection alive until I disconnect the USB cable?

Go into Applications, Development, and set it to keep screen on while connected to power source (or alternately make the screen timeout longer, it goes up to half an hour in Display settings).

Thank you, that worked.

Wireless lan doesn't stay connected

Maybe there's an obvious answer to this question... when I turn off the screen on my trinity the wireless connection gets disconnected and only reconnects once I turn the screen back on. I use Skype mobile a lot and would like to stay connected even when my screen is off. Is there a way to turn off the screen without interrupting the wlan connection?
Thanks in advance
You are pressing the wee button on the side?
Thought so, you are putting the handset into a sleep type mode (probabley be some one along with a more technical definition) but you are not just turning off the screen.
Search round the forums IIRC there is a fix that just switches off the screen without snoozing the handset
There are some utilities for Screen Off as opposed to Standby, and as deech says, you should be able to find one. SpB Pocket Plus and SBSH iLauncher are commercial apps that have that facility.
But the reason WLAN goes off when in standby, is that it uses a lot of power, so even with the screen off, you would find the battery only lasts a short time with WLAN continuously active (3-4 hours?).

Screen backlight & USB disconnections

Just a quick one..
I'm not sure if its to do with S2U2 (Slide to unlock), but whenever I've got a USB connection active for transferring music, as soon as the screen goes off, the USB disconnects.
Obviously annoying & potentially damaging to the microsd.
Any ideas?

Start - Settings - System - Power - Advanced - On External Power:
uncheck the Turn Off Backlight checkbox
and in S2U2 settings,
On External Power:
Lock when backlight turns off - OFF
Power off in - OFF
Hope that sorts it.
All the settings are as you said, realised even with S2U2 unloaded, it still happens. USB is set to charge the battery.
Think I'll forget it for now, going to be trying out custom roms over the coming days so device will be hard reset.
Cheers for your reply.

Screen turn off when connected to PC?

When my phone is plugged into the USB on my PC, the screen stays on .It dims, but stays on .It doesnt even lock. Normal behaviour?
It is set to turn off when connected to external power after 1 minute in the backlight settings.

problem lighting the screen!

My problem is that my screen is still working even if I press the turnoff button and I set turnoff the lighting after 1 min. . I did a format for my cell phone and I changed the room but it is still the same but I found a solution where if I connect my cell phone with the cable USB( either computer’s cable or car’s cable), the screen turn off but as soon as I remove the USB, it doesn’t let me tur

Phone screen randomly turns on after charging

Before I go to sleep, I plug my phone into my charger and hit the sack. After ~1-2 minutes without touching it, my phone's screen lights up mysteriously. It does not unlock or do anything special, the screen just turns on. Not a problem right? Just wait ten 10 seconds and the screen will turn back off? NOPE. That sumofabitch stays on forever and the screen does not go back off until I click the side button to do so.
How can I correct this?
Seems to be a little delay between you plugging your charger in and the phone lighting up to show you have put it on charge. As for the screen not going off. Check your sleep setting it maybe a few minutes.
I could not find the sleep setting?
Are there any other suggestions or inputs?
You have to turn on the Developer options to disable this feature.
To do this:
1. Go to settings -> About Phone
2. Scroll down to the bottom where you see "Build Number"
3. Tap the Build Number button 7 times.
This will activate Developer options in your settings. There is an option in there to disable the screen staying on while charging.
That box is unchecked.
I think another issue that correlates with this is when I unplug my phone. When I remove it from the charger in the morning, my phone will still say "Charging" for an hour or so after I unplugged it and used it.
Are you using stock rom and kernel?
Happens to me when I use a regular car charger, which I think it may be defective (the connector part)
Yeah from the sound of it your connector is loose, so randomly your phone will think it has been disconnected and reconnected to the charger. Changing your USB cable should fix it.

Also try changing daydream settings? If you go into display settings, there is a sleep setting.. What is that set to?
