Tools to help you migrate your data to Galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 General

For anyone migrating to Android from another platform, I can highly recommend the tools from Sprite software.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/Products/Migrate/Migrate-Your-Data-Now/How-To-Transfer
Migrated all my contacts, SMS messages, call logs and bookmarks from my Win HTC Touch HD to my new Galaxy S without a problem. Supports Symbian and Blackberry as well, and there’re free.
MaNIaVCv1

I recommend it also for SMS from Android to Android. I haven't tried the others except Contacts and it did not do well with contacts (for Android to Android).
For contacts I use Mybackup pro (from Android to Android, let's say you wipe and you need to restore or you upgrade ROM) and recommend it for everything else also.
I still backup contacts, sms, etc.. on both sprite mobile backup and mybackup pro

software to sync SMS between Android and WM?

Hi all,
My decision to start migrating from WM to Android turned up to be be quite a headache. And here is one of the problems.
For next year I intend to use Hero and HD2 at the same time and I will need to have them synchronized. Main issue is to have synced SMS - I have tried and looked for different options but ended up with nothing.
Ways it could have been implemented:
1. Desktop PC software that allows you to sync both Android and WM devices, including SMS.
2. Something like Sprite Migrate, but software that works both ways.
3. Something like My Phone service by MS but works on all platforms
4. Software that will export txts in some common standard like xml. I tried to export with SMS Backup & Restore and to restore it to WM with Jeyo Mobile Companion but formats are different
5. Others: backing up to SIM, trying to use backup created on Android with Sprite Backup on WM, forwarding sms via bluetooth, etc....
So as you can see, I have tried many options but was was unsuccessful. Any other ideas how to transfer sms from WM to Android?
I think you can save your SMS on your SIM card, but idk if android can read them out of the box.
Sync to IMAP and Gmail
Have you tried syncing to IMAP? I use MobiTnT (SMS Mobile Archiver would also work I think) that syncs to Outlook a folder. This folder can be transferred to G-mail, perhaps even automatically. To synk between Android and Gmail, you have the android sms project: http://code.google.com/p/android-sms/wiki/UserGuide
SMS Migrator
- First, down load http: // wince.nasenbaeren.net / smsimport/ to export SMS from WM then copy it into your SDCARD on Android Phone
- Then go to Android Market to download "SMS Migrator"
See more here: http: // a.baole.org/ sms-migrator

Does SMS migrator, give you the option to merge sms? I got 2k+ on my old WM phone and 300+ on my Eris. I know Sprite Migrate was working on this feature, but I don't think they added it yet.
sorry for the late reply, but i switched from wm to android and transferring sms messages from one platform to another was something i wanted to do also.
*note* ive onlly transferred from wm6.1 to android
1. i went to this site (google "import/export move sms") [i cant post links 'cus im still new] and installed SMS Exporter.
2. exported to mmc/harddrive..
3. installed sms backup and restore from android market
4. moved the exported .xml file to the sms backup app folder
5. imported.
hope this helps.

No, SMS Migrator imports sms and automatically creates sms thread for you.
suggestion: use Google Voice. It's awesome, and would allow you to sync stuff
Well. I just used the SPRITE stuff and it worked. The SMS is a little different cause Android uses threaded SMS. You you think not all of the messages are there, but they are. I didn't see any sorting it in maybe except for the subject.
Migrating contacts worked too. But SPRITE says it will wipe old data, but it doesn't. That means I have double contacts.
The WM app starts going nuts when you view the log. You have to reset the device to continue. But this is after the data is stored in a safe place on your WM device.
It doesn't do appointments. Maybe for that I have to use the .pib of Pimbackup the extract to .cvs and read it.
But the software is in beta. At least I converted it.
Found this topic. But I'm gonna work on something myself. I'm gonna try to extract the SMS to a CSV on WinMo. Write a simpel script to create an XML. And that XML I'm gonna import on Android.

Did you ever write something? I now have a few SMS on the Android side of my HD2 which I would like to sync with the Windows side.
With more and more Android builds coming out for the HD2 I would think an app to sync between the two would be awesome.
I cannot agree more with the previous user. Any ideas on how to sync sms between android and wm???

[Q] Migrating data from WM6.5 to NAND Android - HD2

Hi,
I was wondering about the way to migrate data (contacts, sms/mms, photos) from WM6.5 to NAND Androdid rom on HD2.
Is there an app I can use to achieve that?
Thanks,
Mike
Download SMS Exporter cab for your windows mobile link: http://stop3dataroaming.googlecode.com/files/SmsExporterSetup0.5.CAB This is an experimental application
Install it on your windows mobile. Running it will present you with a simple form with an “Export” menu. It will export messages into a SMS.xml file which can be directly imported into any Android phone using the SMS Backup & Restore app.
As for the photos if you have them in your SD card, then Android will read them no problem.
I used Sprite Migrate to migrate my contacts, messages, etc. from WinMo to Android.
It's a bit of work, but I was quite happy with it.

[Q] Backup & Restore Programs for the Tilt 2

I have been using Microsoft Myphone to backup & restore my contacts, calendar, & text messages on my Tilt 2 & I love it but just found out that it is no longer working & I was wondering what backup & restore programs you all are using & the ones you like best. The most important things that I want to be able to backup & restore are my contacts, calendar, & text messages.I really liked using MyPhone because I was able to go to their website & sign in & could see along w/edit all of my contacts & calendar & also could see & reread the text messages I had saved.I'd really like to find another program that is like MyPhone if at all possible.
I did find something called M:IQ that seems to be similar to MyPhone & what I am looking for.Has anyone tried this program or using it now? If so is it any good & how do you like it? Also is it easy to use?
Any help you all could give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I used to use Lookout Mobile Security to back up text messages and call log. You could also use PIM Backup for that. An easier way would be top sync with Gmail via Exchange. It will backup tasks, calendar, contacts, and mail. Task sync was hit and miss for me, though.

try funamobl works perfect. it takes some time to find the right link to download and to figure it out but once you do it is easy.
I use Pandapp PC Suite for WM. It backs up my call log, contact, etc. But doesn't backup programs though. It's almost as if I never flashed my phone each time I did.

I have been using Sprite Back-up 6.5.5 build 11 for awhile now and have no complaints. I have my entire phone backed up on my SD card. Has saved me a few times. Lots of options for back-up with the Sprite. Cannot find anything comparable.

[Q] How to Backup and Restore SMS and MMS

Now that myPhone has closed, is there a way to backup and restore my SMS and MMS messages? SkyDrive is no help at all. I have all other data and my email safely backed up.
I have found an application called 'PPCPIMBackup' which was designed for WM5. Does anyone have any experience with this? I also have Sprite Backup and the backup utility in SKTools. I have a licence for SPB Backup.
My messages are critically important to me and the threaded version on my HD2 is extremely helpful. If I can't restore them after a reset, I'm in trouble. Unfortunately, that's just what I need to do. I can't afford to make a mess of this and so I haven't experimented with what I have yet.
Any help will be appreciated. If anyone has backed up their SMS, reset their HD2 and restored their messages successfully, I like to hear from them before I go further. I have read what I have found here but have found no mention of a successful outcome.
I have only had my HD2 for just over a year and Microsoft and HTC seem to be determined to turn it into a brick. If anyone is looking at Phone 7 devices I'd say 'beware'. Will Microsoft drop support for your phone?
I can recommend pimbackup. I use it after flashing ROM's. Works fine.
Edit: I have only used it on SMS msg's. No MMS experience.
I used spb backup and it also works fine.
Sent from my HTC HD2
Thank you for your replies.
My SMS are most important. I can live without my MMS.
Does SPB backup allow restoration of SMS alone after a full reset?
yes i think it does. sorry it's over 1 year now that i used wm on my hd2. but you can just make a backup and go to the restore menu before you reset your device. then you can see and be sure that you can restore only your messages.
but as far as i remember this is possible. i think you even can chose only to backup messages and not everything.
SPB will backup all sms mms 100% perfectly using the mail backup function.
This backs up email too & can not be sellected individually.
Have used SPB for over 5 years & have not lost any messages or PIM in that time.
Free PimBackup app is not that good, no MMS support & only inbox sms is stored (outbox is not, would make threaded sms a bit one sided)
If ultra important I would use both SPB & Sprite for backup.
Another good software for sms & contact backup is iMobile sms-contact backup (has PC app viewers which can be handy & supports unicode characters correctly)
Thank you all. I'm going to make backups with everything suggested.
Your comments have cheered me now that I know I stand a good chance of success. I thought I was stuck after the demise of myPhone.
I would press the 'thanks' button if only I could find it.
You can use any one of these to backup and restore your SMS: -
1. PPC PIM Backup
2. iMobile Backup Suite
3. SK Tools
4. SPB Backup
5. 91 PC Suite for WM
I use PPC PIM Backup regularly and have used it to restore my SMS & Contacts without any problems.
iMobile Backup Suite too is very reliable and simple to use. It gives you "export to text" option too.
91 PC Suite for WM has export to CSV/XML options which too are easy to use for backup/restore.

[Q] Which app are you using for Back up SMS and Call logs?

I was using SMSBack+ but looks like, but recently i noticed that it doesnt restore some of my replies or maybe it failed to back them up? Dunno.
So, what do you use / recommend ?
I use both;
1) Hi-Suite v1.4.02.05 (more functional than its former versions)
2) MyPhoneExplorer v1.8.2
to backup contacts, call logs, messages, calendar, notes, alarms, system settings.
And for the applications, Titanium Backup is my favourite, since it can backup application datas as well. (I'm sure that it can backup sms and call logs, but i just don't prefer)
try mybackup
free on market
and i also upload for you
I am also using Myphoneexplorer. I think it is best for offline synchro with PC.
