Hey guys,
Wow, never intended to be gone for what 6 months! Looks like I've got a lot of catching-up to do.
The Rom Kitchens have taken-off, awesome.
First there was Big Storage, then along came Bigger Storage (reclaim the Ext_Rom), fabulous.
WM6 is in full gear, what more can I say?
So I guess many here are wondering "What the heck happened to you?"...
The home purchase at the end of March when off without a hitch, got sick the week of the move so that was less than fun but we got in and I spent more than I had imagined furnished and stuff.
Then, just as I was getting ready to return to XDA, I found out that my Step Mom has cervical cancer. Cliff Notes: she was in a coma for 3 months due to an infection she caught at the hospital, we made a few trips to Savannah to be there for her, thought we were going to lose her several times, now she's stabile and recovering but it's a race to recovery so she can get back into chemo before it gets any worse.
I apologize to everyone who contacted me without response. I'll be around the board now but not a frequently as before.

Big welcome back - folks here have been asking about you. Sounds like you have had / are having a very difficult time. Glad the move went well but sorry to hear about your step Mom.

Welcome back. Admired your very early work on WM6. Convinced me to finally go with a cooked rom. There's been a lot of chatter on here -- didn't know what happened to you. But am sure as hell glad to see you come back. Now get crackin on a pre-release of WM7!

I'm so excited I just ordered mine today, I also have a Cliq made my Motorola...I wouldn't advise anyone to buy one...Motorola can't even update the thing until 3 months later, it still has major issues...Can't answer calls, constantly droping calls and all that crapola Blur integrated with it..So I order my nexus today.. I feel like i just bought a Lexus....lol but I'm happy any comments on the phone? bugs? anything i should know when getting it? Because I did some research and haven't found anything crazy, seems google is keeping it updated and fixing everything it can on the spot.

I ordered mine on day one and haven't had any problems with it at all.
I installed 'Better Keyboard' because the only thing lacking, for me, on this phone was the keyboard.. although it's not THAT bad.
Over the past year I've had the Palm Pre, HTC Hero, iPhone 3Gs and the Nexus One.
The Nexus One is by FAR my favorite device.

Keyboard wise:
Install HTC IME (available on this forum) or Swype(also availbale on here). Both are free and far better then stock. Neither requires root or shouldnt.
So there isn't any lagging when using the nexus? Such as when you click a button it takes about 10 seconds for it to respond, or when you type fast it doesn't catch anything?
10 seconds? You gotta be kidding This monster doesn't know what lag is.
I've had my Nexus One for about a month already. I'm very very pleased.

Is it really necessary to start a whole new thread to tell us that you ordered a nexus? I know its exciting and all getting the phone but it's adds more clutter to the boards that isn't needed.

No seriously what is not needed is your remark. This is a board it thrives on the amount of posts/threads created.
wikipedia message boards/online communities and you will maybe gain some knowledge about how this kind of stuff works.
To the O.P you will love this phone. I went from iphone 3g to the g1, to palm pre, mytouch 3g to this and it is by far the best phone I have ever had the pleasure in dealing with.

I had mine on the third day after it was released. it had the touchscreen problem. and now i have sent it back for a refund. however, i REALLY love this phone, and am considering ordering a new one again. so, here comes my concern.

Congrats...I took the plunge and ordered one today too.
In the UK, after import duty, import VAT and DHL's charge for the privilege of them submitting your N1 to customs (yeah they charge for that too!) the N1 costs ~£490 (~$760US) ...a little too steep for me!
I pre-ordered my HTC Desire 2 days ago from clove.co.uk for £430. Roll on April!

I really need help on a choice im on the fence about since next week I will lose my 30 day return period.
Here it is 5 Nexus S's later and almost every unit had a different problem.
1st: soft resets at least 4 times a day.
2nd: wifi doesn't work
3rd: massive screen banding.
4th: back button did not respond to touch.
Now: screen coating is peeling.
I love Gingerbread! Its going to be really hard giving this away. I love the design and profile of this phone.
I've convinced myself that its ok for the weak wifi signal and a Gps that doesn't lock as good as other phones.
I'm torn between returning it or sending it in for repair.
I also have owned every Tmobile smartphone (MT4G, G2, Vibrant), I could exchange it for one of those.
Why lol does the best phone ive seen in a while have to be seriously half-assed.
Not because of the features but because of all those problems I put above.
I want something that works pretty solid and software mix but it looks the world is in capable of doing this.

Idk man I just picked up nexus s today from bestbuy, I had the vibrant and the problems you've had software/device related I have not seen on mine. Mine just OTA updated about 2 hrs ago to 2.3.1. I havent had it long enough to comment on peeling but ya.
Its solid device to me so far, But I understand what your saying after 5 NS later.

What sucks is that even after six months Samsung wont improve this phone as far as defects go. Look at the vibrant lol
If you have a good one with no problems hold on to it man because I wish my luck was good enough to have a good one.
On my third one here, will use vmy black tie for another eventually. Shop around. I went to different best buys. Some get bad batched. One had 10 all with the creased glass screen. Another had none. Some of these phones were made days before the launch so though its disappointing, I believe there are good ones. I have one now but the stupid platinum case already scratched my phone.

Like the poster above me, I would try to exchange at a completely different Best Buy. Bad batches are called so for a reason--the entire batch may be faulty.
I picked up my Nexus S at 8:00AM Launch Day and haven't had a single issue with it at all. I had to go through three MT4Gs before I returned it completely, and three G2s before I was satisfied with the last one(it still had issues, but at that point, I was tired of dealing with it). And on the screen coating thing: I don't know what coating people are talking about and if there is such a coating, then I think alot of folks are expecting too much out of it. Review/unboxing videos and my own device had fingerprints showing up the second people started using it. Do folks honestly expect touchscreen phones not to show fingerprints/smudges ever? That's unrealistic, imo.
And it's only under direct light(i.e. a directional lamp pointed right at it) that I see them at all. In day to day use, it's not an issue for me.

If i do go back to an old one it would probably be the G2
but Im thinking of getting another one and fit it with a screen protector right away to stop this peeling garbage.

you reminded me of my friend who bought an iphone 4 the other day and he is like you " and me " he found a dead black pixel in the middle of the screen. the poor bastard couldnt sleep the night. stairing at it all the time. he knew he can go to apple store in the morning the next day. but still he couldnt sleep about it.
when he told me, i was crying laughing at him.

Im never going to get a samsung phone again and im going to make sure I book mark this sucker so if I do feel tempted Ill look back at my self hahahah

Mine had a lot of these same issues the OP pointed out. I returned it, but not because of said issues lol.. I needed some extra cash for Sandy Bridge!

since you are in the know about Sandy Bridge. can you please tell me why for example should i upgrade from I7 ?
i mean, whats the real difference here ?
please keep in mind that most of my gaming on ps3 or 360. i dont play pc games much if any " the only games i played are crysis 1 and warheads"

You just had a run of bad luck. It sucks but it happens to all of us at one point or another. Just keep trying and you will get a good one. It will be totally worth it

Have you tried returning your phone at another best buy? (if you can) as others have said, if your local store has a bad batch and sales are low you may keep getting units from the same batch.
Depending on the staff, you could also ask about the number of returns that store has had recently.
Seems a shame after 5 phones not to try once more in the hope you get a good one!

This doesn't sound like a bad idea whatsoever. Seriously... I'm on my 4th SNS. I just love it too much to give up. I did two swaps at one best buy, fully returned it and drove to another one. This one seems solid now, and I have a month if I change my mind, but if that's the case, I'll return it and go online. Sounds like you guys have been having luck, no?

Ah, what an exciting day.
I ordered my Asus TF101-A1 on Friday, and just had UPS confirmation that it was delivered about 30 minutes ago. Too bad I'm stuck at work, but as soon as I get home I will be on it all night long. I simply cannot wait to see what kind of custom ROMs are going to come for this tablet, I'm so excited.
After playing with it for a few hours, I will post my initial thoughts and impressions for all you who are considering buying, assuming you can find one in stock somewhere!

welcome to the club. Ive been neglecting my laptop for the past 3 weeks..lol
leave it on, remote in on the TF (why do i want to say tranny?..hahaha), just took it on a road trip and was able to tether off an old Treo Pro... Played games, took pics/video with it, and didnt notice any screen glare in the day light..
all is well thus far.

Yeah, I'm not too worried. I hate Apple and iOS, and I'm the guy that says iOS is for old or non technical people who like things simple. I love Android, as I have been using an Android phone since 1.6. I'm so ready for 3.1 on my TF! I can see it now...sitting on the couch, remoting into my PC and both my servers. Going to be awesome.

CONGRATULATIONS!...I brought mine yesterday at this time...and played with it till 2.00 AM..EST and went to sleep....
ROOT it...and flashed PRIMORDIAL! v3.1...
For ROOT...use AYMAN07 guide..he has his own forum as well..and its awesome...go get it...Man....

Sears.com actually, haha. I found myself checking nowinstock hourly, until I found it show sears had it in stock, went and immediately ordered it. Shipped, it was like $417 after some $5 off rebate I got over Memorial Day weekend.
Heading home from work now to go play with it!

Well, so far so good. Played with it all night long, got it rooted and flashed to Primordial v3.1. Gotta say, I love it! I personally think the tablet feels great, and has amazing power. Can't wait to try the 1.6Ghz Kernel and see how that runs.
If I had to list cons for the TF101, I can only think of two. The stock keyboard can be a little laggy, but who uses the stock keyboard anyway? I'm still trying out different keyboards to see which I like best, so I'm not concerned about it. Also, the charging adapter. I wish the adapter actually clicked into the bottom of the tablet, instead of just sliding in. Think apps proprietary connector, unfortunately. But I guess it's good that it doesn't click in so if jerk on it or something, it will just slide out instead of tearing something up. Would be nice if the charger cord was a little longer, but eh...no biggie.
Overall, I love it.
Well, I just went to the repair center after my earpiece quit working during calls (still works for voicemails which is really weird). They're ordering me a replacement Shift, again. This will be my 6th exchange (including an insurance claim). Seems like it's time they'd just get me a different damn phone lol
I guess I got really lucky. I'm nearing the end of my 2 years with my shift. It has a ton of dents and scratches but never any failure. 6 phones is a lot though. If you complain enough Im sure they'd give you an early up? No?

my upgrade has been due since like February, and I've had this shift since January or so. I've had the shift model for over a year and a half now. I was hoping to hear some rumors about something new coming out soon that I'd be happy with for 2 years now that I'm on the 2 year cycle
Call the " Retention " department at Sprint. Explain your on your 6th device. They will either find you a Brand new one, or work something out with you. Every time I've ever called they bend over backward to help. They do not like losing customers. Especially not these days.

doesn't work too well with the employee accounts. They aren't making money on us in the first place. When I go back in to the repair center to pick the phone up I'll probably ***** a bit and maybe see what they can do. Otherwise I might just use the buyback program and trade in a few phones towards the Evo LTE or something.
Still on my first shift and it's been a year in about a week.

Can't, all attempts failed. Latest OTA btw, believe that's what the issue is, they patched the majority of the methods. If there are any that still work then feel free to throw me a bone,

Nothing yet. But Indirect might do something if he can get his hands on a Tester, or a Shift. Check THIS post .

Also considering buying an s2 with a broken screen to fix up and use instead of the shift, since the stock OS has constant app crashing...
