DLNA file Transfer - Galaxy S I9000 General

Guys,
Is anyone else experiencing problems with this?
I have both a Laptop that supports DLNA and a new Samsung LED TV.
I've set up the settings correctly and select the top play mode ~ Play file from my phone on another player.
After then selecting a media category and a list of files and~ Add to Playlist, as soon as I then go to the next instruction ~ Select a player, nothing is displayed.
For some reason neither the Laptop nor the PC is shown.
It works if I select the second method to display content from another device on the Galaxy S but the third and final method where you select both the source and destination media players again neither the Laptop nor TV is being shown?

All our DLNA TVs are dismantled at the moment so I cant test it. But it sounds like the phone isnt actually finding DLNA clients at all, it's only seeing network shares?

The top option work for me when streaming to/from window media player. I didnt even have to configure anything!

Mark, I'd appreciate any assistance on this. I just can not get the Galaxy S to pick up any devices.

Interesting....
You say it works when streaming from Windows Media Player... On your Galaxy S did it first pick up any media devices?
The way I see it the Galaxy S must first choose a media device to send the files across. Only then will the PC be able to pick up the files.
Again, my problem is no media devices show in the list for me to select.
Can you explain stage by stage how you got this to work?
Maybe I have missed something here.

I've just tested this at home, and it seems to work. I can stream music from the computer either to the phone or to the WDTV live box.
Aside from setting up shared files on the computer, I didnt need to do anything with the phone (besides connect to my wireless router obviously).

Ok, been mucking about turning stuff on and off, and it can get into a state where it doesnt see any devices, But if I turn the phone off and then back on again it seems to see everything again...
If the phone can see your computers shared files, then there doesnt seem to be any settings left to play with.
Can you see the DLNA TV from the computer and 'Play To' it? (Er, think thats only available on Windows 7).

I am wondering if this thing is capable of PUSHING an HD file over DLNA.
I have a bunch of movies on my Media Center that are 720p to 1080p MKV's, AVI's, and WMV. I noticed that the Galaxy is going to be able to play MKV's so that's a step. I would like to bring a movie or two over to someones house, then push that video over their Xbox 360 to their TV. I wonder what this would do to the audio if it was even capable of this. Would it come out as stereo?
I'm just throwing some ideas around, but if it can do this its pretty much my dream phone. I have been trying to get this scenario to work since my Touch Pro and who wants to carry a cable around. It seems like everyone has a 360 or PS3 these days.

Yes Mark, I've lost count the amount of times I've turned it off then back on again.

I know... that's why it's so confusing.
It's got to be something to do with 'pushing' the files across to other media devices.

If you mean the other way round ~ can I see the DNLA Laptop from the TV, then yes Mark.
When you look at the TV it shows the Laptop with all the other connected devices, so it has no trouble at all in picking up the wireless DLNA Laptop... and yes, you are correct, it is a Win 7 64bit.
I'm back in theatre again for most of today so not sure when I'll next get a chance to try and sort this out.
It's quite obvious it is something simple. Come what may eventually I'll find out what it is.... (says he with blank thoughts).

No I meant the first way around can you see the TV from the laptop? from the Start Icon, select Computer, and at the bottom left of the window select Network. If your TV is broadcasting its DLNA support on your network I think it should appear as a device in the Network window on your Laptop. My WDTV Live certainly does.

Thanks Mark, I did'nt realize it did this.
I'll check tonight.
All I've found in the past is the laptop shows up on the TV amongst the other items connected.

Mark,
Well I checked it and sure enough, the TV is showing as a media device under Network.
What is initially interesting is the Galaxy is also there so you would like to think if the network can see all the devices then it should show their content as well.
Unfortunately not for me.....
If you double click on the Galaxy icon on the PC it opens Windows Media Player but the Galaxy is not listed anywhere within the contents displayed.
Further, back on the Galaxy All Share does not show any devices to play media on... It's just an empty screen saying "No Devices".
So Mark... I'm stumped!
I'm so glad I have surgery to fall on which is easier to perform.

Hmm ok, so probably best to simplify and focus on getting the phone working from the computer first. With AllShare running, you should see something like this in the left hand panel of Windows Media Player: (Note the Galaxy S as the last device)

So this shows me streaming Coldplay from the phone back to the PC. Since you currently dont have this option, it seems like your Galaxy isnt on the network properly, although lets not rule out some computer setup issue. A common one on the PC is to turn off password protected file sharing.
But check firewalls, make sure your router isnt restricting the phone in anyway, that its got a sensible IP address etc, and not clashing with anything else.

Hi Mark,
I had a play today with both All Share and the Laptop which has Windows 7 64bit and also DLNA as standard fit.
As soon as I switch on All Share and select the top option of going into selecting what files to share I notice on the Laptop the Galaxy icon appears.
Unfortunately this is as far as we get here.... because if you then double click on the Galaxy icon which in turn opens up Windows Media Player, the Galaxy is not shown on the library list on the left of the screen.
However, once and I do mean once I did manage after selecting various files on the Galaxy (photos) to share with the Laptop and after clicking on "Add to playlist" the Laptops name popped up and I was able to select it and on the Laptop the Windows Media Player showed the contents of the Galaxy (just as in your diagram kindly provided).
On that one occasion when I did manage to get it to obtain a list in Windows Media Player, as mentioned back on the Galaxy it also found the Laptop's name as a media device which tallied and made sense why WMP was showing the Galaxy's photos.
However, as soon as I double clicked on one of the photos on the Laptop to show in WMP back on the Galaxy up came a warning message ~ "Sorry! The application Allshare (process com.se.android.app.dlna) has stopped unexpectedly, please try again".
If I then click on 'Force Close' it takes me back to the first All Share window and from this point on ever time I select files and "Add to Playlist" it again does not show any media devices nor any mention of the Galaxy in WMP.
As I say it happened just the once and no matter what I do I can not get it to do it again...
So, on the Galaxy after selecting the files to share and clicking on the bottom of the page "Add to Playlist" the screen jumps to ask me to select a device to play media clips on but there is still no devices being shown.
One other thing I noticed....... On that single occasion I did get my files to show on the Laptop, although I had only selected four photos to "Add to Playlist" it actually showed a thumbnail of ALL the photos stored on the Galaxy, not just the four selected?
So sorry about all this Mark.
Please don't put yourself out mate. Although I appreciate any help here in advice/ideas, the last thing I want to do is end up taking your precious time.

This may seem like a silly one, but have you rebooted your router since first connecting your Galaxy to your home network? I've found in the past that wireless devices always have a few niggles until I reboot mine, and now do it as a matter of course.
Beyond that, I have 2 machines to play with at home, one works almost flawlessly, the other is giving me some problems, i.e. it takes several refreshes to see the device sometimes, and I get the same crash you mentioned in the previous post maybe 10% of the time, but ultimately does work ( I can stream mp3 to or from windows media player and the phone, with allshare running) Stick with music for testing and put an mp3 on your phone so your not trying to go from one device to phone to another device. Just focus on phone -> comp & viceversa.
There is something wrong still as the Galaxy isnt properly on the network, from a media streaming perspective it appears as an unknown device on some other network.
Whereas my WDTV Live is identified for what it is and I dont need to select All Networks at the top to see that.
Ignore the bit where it shows custom settings, defaults also work fine.
Also remember to enable remote control on the PC to control it from your phone.
The only other thing I've discovered is you need to launch Windows Media Player on the PC before starting AllShare. Plus if after a few refreshes AllShare isnt listing any devices I just quit AllShare and relaunch it, and it then typically works first time.
I'm sorry I cant offer anything concrete, as I cant seem to break mine in order to fix it again.

Thanks again Mark for the details and screen grabs... truly appreciated.
I don't know what the heck it is but it just does not want to accept ANY Media Device period now.
I've tried rebooting the Router (BT Hub v2) but I know it's fine with all items connected to it:-
TV ~ Ethernet
Wii ~ Wireless
Fujitsu Siemens Tablet PC ~ Wireless
Acer 19" Laptop ~ DLNA
The router uses WPA and I don't want to change this.
Apart from DLNA the Galaxy has no problems with the BT Hub but I doubt it's the router as it won't even pick up the TV nor will the TV show it in it's list of Devices (The TV does show the Acer Laptop though).
I've got my settings exactly as you show....
The only difference I had is under 'Stream' I didn't have both items selected.
I've now done this but there's still no change.
I've tried coming out of All Share and going back in again but it doesn't matter if it's a Video, Image or Sound... as soon as you've clicked on the files to share and pressed share, when it then jumps to the next window to select the Media Device it's void of anything to select.
Windows Media Player I left open all the time in hope it might have picked up the Galaxy but no...
I'm going to have a look at using a Task Killer to force terminate All Share and try again but I'm not hopfull of getting a result.
Recommendations on which Task Killer?
I have my eye on two ~ Advanced Task Killer & Advanced Task Manager.

I use Advanced Task Killer, its an easy way to clean up everything in one go. I don't expect it will help in this case, but no harm in trying it.
The only other thing I can think of right now (a little pre-occupied with selling my house today) is disable the Windows firewall on the PC briefly and try it once more. If your router doesn't have a firewall built in, you'd best disconnect it from the outgoing internet cable while you do this)

Thanks Mark,
I've downloaded and installed ATK but as you say it's not done anything to sort out the issue but handy nonetheless.
Re the firewall, I doubt if this is effecting it as again I have no problems with the Samsung LED TV & my Acer Laptop. Both see each other fine.
I'm going to bury this problem for the time being Mark as I think both you and I have spent long enough. We're not getting any further despite your continued assistance so thanks again.
Right mate, I have a very busy day on the road tomorrow with two hospitals to attend ~ two lectures and one 'live operation' (live ops are where you first give a lecture on a procedure and follow it up in the afternoon with a live camera operation link back to the audience who attended the lecture).
It's great as the entire audience are camera fed back to me. All are on video & can participate both vocally and visually.
A great day but very tiring and it's going to be like this for the next few weeks so again a good idea to bury the project temporary.

GUIDE : HOW TO : USEFUL TIPS SETTING UP 10.1v

This guide will basically answer the following questions:
What to do for the tab case?
How to screen protect?
Best Email app
Best Office Application for tabs
How to make Whatsapp work on honeycomb tablets?
What is the best video format for galaxy tab?
Is your screen coming out. Are you alone?
How to download YOUTUBE VIDEOS HIGH QUALITY
Which is the best weather application for 10.1 inch tabs
What is the best wallpaper size?
Which is the replacement of the task calendar for honeycomb
OK so after the news that Vodafone ditched 10.1v for 10.1, most users are left on their own. Some are stil getting 10.1v from vodafone in some areas and others having it may have some issues. So I decided to compile some facts about the tablet. Screen shots are in here and in second thread.
Some of the tips below have been borrowed from some other threads for recompilation purposes and the credit goes to these people. Some of the other tips come from me and I would be glad to update them as I get to explore it more.
So lets start...
Hardware
The hardware of Galaxy tab 10.1 is well..heavy...but the plus side is that it is so very handy to grip. The curves at the back side make it so easy for the hand to hold them. I let couple of my friends hold it and they stated the heaviness does not feel due to the grip. Its so easy to hold this baby for longer times and thats a big plus. The downside in the hardware is that the screen is a little coming out from the top right corner. If you press the screen from the other three corners it wont go in. But the top right corner it is flimsy and loose. Press it and the screen visibly goes in. Seems like samsung forgot to glue it. LOL
SIM SLOT
One weird thing i noticed about the 10.1v was the PUSH needed to insert the sim inside the tablet. Initially i thought this was a fault but trust me , its not. Read a couple of threads on it and realized people were having problems. The solution is simple, once u insert the sim in get some thin key or your credit /atm card and just puch the sim in as much as you can. and VOILA it stays there.
So anyone using 10.1v and had to replace the sim for some reason dont think you got stuck cuz the sim really needs a big push to settle in.
The Casing
I did not get a casing for the galaxy tab. and as i found most people does not. The solution is to get an acer iconia flip cover. It suits completely on the galaxt tab and gives three different options for tilting the screen which are really useful for video, reading and other work. The only thing required for acer iconia cover is to reveal the headphone socket of the tab and thats easy. There is a slot in iconia cover almost at the same place. Just use your scissors and continue to cut it along the already made slit vertically. Once the handsfree socket is visible stop cutting. Now you can either remove the loose portion by either cutting it horizontally or letting ti stay there. I preferred letting it stay there cuz that gave the original look and stil made it easy for me to fit the handsfree when needed.
Fortunately, the galaxy tab 10.1v adopts to screen rotations so that gives u the option to put the charger slot either at the top or the bottom of the sliding case. I prefer it at the bottom for two reasons. First it avoids any dust going in and second it makes me charge the tab taking it out of the cover which i have heard is actually good to avoid heating issues.
SCREEN PROTECTOR
As was with the cover, the tab i had did not come with a screen protector. The solution again is simple. Get an apple ipad screen protector. Place it on the screen and align from one side vertically and horizontally. The other side will have the Apple ipad central button gap. Let this side flow out and cut horizontally to separate the ipad's round button from the screen protector. Thats it. Apply. Be careful not to cover the camera with the screen protector. Now use the screen protector in all its glory to avoid screen issues.
Apple screen protectors are reusable and washable. But be careful not to wash off the tablet when you wash them.
SETTING UP
Ok enough of the hardware info. Now for the software. Insert the sim. Once you switch on the tab, its a WOW. Honeycomb first look is really nice and the screen is really HD.
We all have to go through the honeycomb setup wizard which is a breeze actually and i will not dwelve into it since this guide will take on the useful issues only and not old ones.
However as a tip, once you go through the wizard.....RESTART....yes i know you are anxious but trust me RESTART.
Once you restart, the first thing that I usually do is to set up a lock screen password. Just hit settings in apps menu and hit
"Location and Security" and in there "Configure lock screen ". Setup your favorite way to unlock the screen and chill. Now you can show your tablet to tons of people without feeling a problem they will enter your tablet.
In the same "Locations and Security" tab you will notice "Owner Info". Hit it and you can enter your personalized message to appear on the lock screen. Kinda nice tip to setup your tab look good.
You may also notice an option "encrypt tablet" . I would not hit on it since i feel that it slows down the tab. Choice is yours if you are living at a place where you need to protect your data and theft is common the best choice is to encrypt.
First Things THE MAIN SCREEN
The first thing you would notice is that there are five screens for honey comb. The choice is yours how to arrange them but I would share the useful way to do it without losing on the beauty of the wallpaper in the tab.
The most useful application shortcuts I feel to place on the main screen are 6
Calculator
Calendar
Officer Application (which one comes later)
Email (or K9)
Settings
Browser
Thats not all. There is some more useful things you may wanna put on the main screen. Like weather. But for that you need two things. First I assume your 3g internet settings are auto detected by the tablet but if they are not set it up and SECOND goto market to download ASTRO file manager free. Once downloaded goto settings, applications and click on unknown sources.
WEATHER
Dont waste your time on other weather applications. Just move onto one of the threads in this forum where you have the SIGNED WEATHER application from asus transformer. Download the signed version and click on downloaded app from astro from above and bang you got the best weather info that suits the 10.1 inch screen and looks pretty nice. Installation can be done without root and by simple clicking. No need to change permissions or manual copying since I did not and mine works fine.
NOTES
Next comes the Notes. I spent months searching for the right application. I wanted a widget with transprent background that can hold my meetings and notes and reminders of different things. I did not like the stock calendar widget due to limitations of reminders in it for some task due but not done on due date.
Download "Simple Notepad" application from android market and if you can configure it correctly, you can get something like in my screen shot.
Notice the transparency, the sleekness and usefulness of this widget. I use the widget 3 x 2. You can use one of your own choice.
WALLPAPER
No matter what I did, EXACT resolution match to fit in full screen wallpaper without zooming was not achievable. The closest to optimum resolution was 1920 * 1408 strange but yeah this one works. Problem is you cant find images that resolution in abundance and resizing will destroy the image aspect ratio. If some one wants to try this, he can.
I, however went for a really useful free application from android market. "Multi picture Live Wallpaper". This has excellent abilities especially having different wallpapers for each screen full size without zoom. the best part is the cross fade option that smoothly transitions the wallpapers into one another and you can have different wallpapers for your different screens depending on your mood.
The wallpapers in the tablet are okay and not mouth watering so not go ahead and download 1900*1200 or 1280*800 and they will suit correctly without zoom using the app above.
EMAIL APP
Stil k9 is the best. Simple because the email client stil does not have "select all" option for mailbox. This is really ahndyt o delete bulk emails from trashcan.
Also you have no option to download a preview message and hence once you click on a message the entire is downloaded with attachement in one go.
In K9, you can either download the attachment or leave it. So those people on high cost 3g connections, dont use this email client.
Download k9 and associated with it is the the "Message Center" application from market to identify unread emails in the k9 mail box. So on your main screen you have the unread count which is very handy.
QUICK OFFICE HD
DOnt waste your time here and all the HD fancy things with it. When you receive an email with attachment in excel word or powerpoint you cant view it in there, and surely cannot download. This is because of a known issue that Quick Office is not a PLUGIN for default email client of honeycomb. So the attachments are pretty uselss to download since you got no option to view them.
For those who want to use quickoffice stil, they need to download a kind of work around. Download and install "Download all files" or similar download software for android and instal. Now when you open your emails with attachments you will notice the "VIEW" and "SAVE" button next to the attachement and now you can open it.
For those who dont want this, like me, just instal "ThinkFree Office". Its by far the best and supports freezing windows and panes in which format i usually receive my attachments. Please purchase the full application if rquired it really is far ahead than quickoffice in my opinion. Plus it has the native ability to open email attachments.
WHATSAPP
Ok so you need Whatsapp. After tons and tons of searching and finding nothing, I finally managed to install Whatsapp and solve the contacts not appearing issue.
I will here like to notify that I emailed the whatsapp people and they stated that whastapp is not for tablets. Strange, cuz it works on internet and tabs are all about internet messaging. So heres a guide to instal Whats app.
EXISTING ANDROID WHATSAPP USERS
Existing ANDROID whatsapp users trying to switch to galaxy tab 10.1v there is good news.l You can do that in easy steps. But if you have already tried whatsapp on tablet without any success then you need to first remove the account from accounts and sync under settings and then uninstal the application in your tablet first before the points below.
Make sure you have the latest whatsapp version in you old android phone and the contacts you want to transfer or talk to in 10.1v whastapp ar ein the original whatsapp application you are using on the android phone. Please also make sure you have some messaging going under these contacts.
Goto settings of whatsapp in your original android phone and check the last back up that was made. This is i think under the option "MORE" This date should be fresh. If not you gotto wait for the autobackup. Else backup if there is an option in your version.
Now take out the SIM and put in 10.1v tablet
download whatsapp from the whatsapp web site. Dont bother going to market...its not there.
Once downloaded instal.
When it comes to verification of your account, it will give a failure to send sms or somethign like that. Dont panic. Just click on retry.
Now you will see a roughly 10 minute time clock. Make sure your 3g or wifi is on. Let the 10 minutes pass.
Bang you will see a SMS received from whatsapp and it will shwo int he SERVICE INFO icon at the bottom bar of your tablet
Whatsapp will recognize it automatically and move forward. It will now auto backup your account under this number.
It will ask to restore backup and you do restore. and thats it. All your contacts and conversations are there. and you can WHATSAPP.
NEW WHATSAPP USERS
Well you guys need an android phone. and you gotto register whatsapp in there. Add your contacts and make some messages. Then follow the above procedures.
MESSAGING
Incoming sms messages work from anyone and they are clubbed in service info application.
YOU TUBE
Download tube mate not from the market but from the web. and that will help you download nice high definition movies. Dont bother downloading above 720p.
VIDEO PLAYBACK SIZE AND RESOLUTION
I tried everything. 1280 * 800 and the 720p one too. I could not get a fullscreen playback from tablet. So i reverted to SOUL MOVIE....a nice small free player to play in full screen with multiple options. Very nice give it a try.
I tried downloading 1080p youtube videos, they either stutter or somewhere in the end it says "Cannot play this video. Contact your Phone Maker". There are many thread son limitations of 1080p playback on tegra and i wont go into it. Hope this gets resolved in 3.1.
So the best way is to use third party encoders like 4videosoft to convert your downloaded youtube or movies to 1080p videos and then use a bitrate not more than 5000. Anything above that and you are inviting trouble. However, hionestly 720p is equally good too.
GOOGLE TALK
Works nicely with video. WOW thumbs up.
This needs to be updated pretty frequently, but to start with, one must have
ASTRO
DROPBOX
UNRAR
SOUL MOVIE PLAYER
WHATSAPP
Moon+reader for ebooks...well did i miss on ebooks here.
Now some Pics

Hi Yahya. I see from your pictures that you too are from Lahore.
In case I didn't make it that obvious - so am I. Where did you get your 10.1v from and do you recommend any place in Lahore where I could get a tab?
Thanks,
Mobeen.
From south africa. sim free.
Wonderful list, thanks alot!
But my whatsapp is not showing any contacts, copied the backup and used the sim from my Galaxy S2.

Hi,
I managed to get Whatsapp installed but it can't seem to find my contacts on my Galaxy Tab 3G.

Yes, i wanna know too !!! ………………therefore i opened a thread here 2 weeks ago and 2 days ago someone did the same. But I won’t moan about searching and tell all what I know about.
There are a plethora of DVB-t dongles and also a lot of linux-drivers for them. Actually, Archos 101 (Froyo) enthousiasts implemented it on their Tablet. They also made an APK, LiveTV, that scans the dongle for canals. So, it is very close, “just” find the way to port the drivers to our tablet. I did some coding in the past but Android is a bridge to far for me. So I hope someone will pick it up.

Back in the day, my MDA was able to pick up all TV channels based on a TV tuner feed through a wonderful program: MyTinyTV.
Now, all that's left is horrible ORB. It never works and has a terrible interface. Anyone have any other options for feeding my TV tuner out into the web and then picking it up through an Android App?
And please, no one start talking about those streaming TV apps that have 40 random channels that no one's ever heard of (SPB TV for example).

And please, no one start talking about those streaming TV apps that have 40 random channels that no one's ever heard of (SPB TV for example).

tried slingbox? i use it to stream from my directv dvr 2500 miles away.
still not a fan of the android interface, as the pc interface was much better, but it gets the job done.... except you need a slingbox ($100-$200) and the app ($30)

Yeah, I'm jealous that you have it and it works great, but I'm not paying for it. I don't have anything but regular cable because there are only a few channels I watch, but I'd like to be able to get them wherever there's a cell signal.
Watch live tv in the browser
Watch live tv in the browser just go to www.mobiletv.net. All you need is flash. And its completely free.
Been looking for something like this as well. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I might give it a shot when I have some time.
If streaming from your home PC is an option you'd consider, you might want to check out SplashTop. Currently $5 in the Market. Has fairly great Market reviews incl from A500 owners. I'm not affiliated of course, just doing my homework on it first before I try.
Full remote desktop app and from the looks of it, it looks like if you have cable connected to your PC, say via Windows Media Center you can remote into that and stream the output to your Tab. Am hearing fairly good things about the video quality. Or of course you could also do Hulu, Netflix, etc.
Found an article about live TV on it (though this is by iPad user)
thedigitallifestyle(DOT)com/w/index.php/2011/06/03/using-splashtop-to-watch-live-or-recorded-tv-on-the-ipad/
If you decide to give it a shot, let me know what you think! Good luck...
EDIT: Clarification. The version of the app recommended by the dev for Honeycomb tablets is SplashTop HD.

Hmm interesting suggestion. I have always thought Splashtop was another VNC program until now. I tried it out and it works great for what you mentioned. Unfortunately, something with my desktop video driver causes it to freeze up after a few minutes. Same thing happens with VNC programs lately.

It's possible !!
My "Cinery T USB XE" works on my Acer Iconia A210.
My mate has compiled a kernel with dvb integration and we added the firmware.

I have done a channel scan with droidTV.apk. Found channels, but have a very high error rate, so don't see anything.
So the source of the errors is the droidTV app we think.
Is any one working on an app for DVB ? Maybe someone can tell how to crosscompile an binary? Or maybe can tell me how to configure toolchain paths for compiling successfull????
Not exactly what your after but with a combination of dvblink connect server http://www.dvblogic.com/netpack.php and xbmc dvblink addon script http://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/DVBLink_Connect!_Server_clients and xbmc android http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29737360 you can watch live tv. Hd channels still need hw decoding working to play smooth(not currently working) but sd channels play fine
i'm in the same point as schlex2010, i succed to compile Hauppauge WinTV mini stick modules for Kernel 2.6.39.4+

finally I did it.
All channels streaming on ICS 4.0.3 Kernel 2.6.39.4+ with 2 Hauppauge USB WinTV, MiniStick and NOVA-T-Stick.
It was done compiling modules which came with official ICS downloadable Kernel from Acer web page.
Loading modules and dvb adapter files with scripting and streaming locally with mumudvb for android.
Streaming is playable with players like MX or VPlayer.
yeeeah! I can see Live DVB-T every where.
Didn't see it mentioned, but USTV in android app store is pretty good too. Has the unheard of channels but also has a "hot" channel list that weeds them out and just shows HBO, SyFy, etc.
That said, between mobiletv.net and USTV, I'll never need cable! Mobile - which works really well on my slate PC (just tried it) has a ESPNU feed which will get me through volleyball season, as does Watch ESPN app. When one factors in all the other channels, movie channels and my netflix account, I'm set! WOO HOO!
One quick question...does anybody know what time zone mobiletv.net follows - so I'll know which movie schedule to follow (I am on EST in US)? Thanks!

DLNA for Mango Samsung WP7 Phones

Samsung released Allshare a DLNA App for Mango WP7 Phones.
I couldn't find it in the Samsung Zone...
But it poped up in the Search when i clicked "more from SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS Co., Ltd." on the Details View from other Samsung Apps.

Sorry for bad english.
Just got the Samsung update for my 7720.68. But this doesn't work. The same goes for "advanced text messages".
I can unfortunately confirm neither work for me either (I went from 7720 RTM to official Mango about a 1/2 hour ago).
Not on Focus, either

Its ment to ship on the Omnia W and Focus S.
So maybe its only for Mango based phones
I just checked it. It specifically excludes devicenames "OMNIA7" and "SGH-i917" (= Focus). I patched it. The checks are removed. I was able to start the app, browse a DLNA server, but as soon as I select media it opens a screen with "Select device", "Loading...", "no device found". There seems no way to play any media. I haven't tried to send media from my phone to a DLNA player (I'm at work, I'll try that when I get home).
By the way, I'm on Omnia7 with Mango RTM and latest Samsung Driver/Radio Update.
I'll attach the xap, so you can try it yourself.
Ciao,
Heathcliff74
Well, this app is really, really not working on my Omnia7. The 'unlocked' app simply won't play and won't share anything. I don't understand why, because DLNA should just work on such a device. No special hardware requirements. Meehhh.
Heathcliff74
Does it need a driver that wasn't included in the new package from Samsung?
Yeah, that's what came to my mind too, some external driver required.
We need dump (or the ROM itself) of Omnia W or Focus S . Anyone?
I got samsung allshare in my galaxy s, it needs allshare installed in the server pc or any other samsung device that supports allshare.
cant test the above patched app because my omnia is not "rooted"
just my 2 cents.
Anyone tried this:
wmpoweruser.com/how-to-enable-samsung-allshare-dlna-app-on-the-samsung-omnia-7?
(sorry apparently can't post outside links :S)
Given Heathcliff74's experience after removing the check for model i wouldn't have expected this to work.
I can confirm it does load and get past the initial error message but I'm at work so i didn't get a chance to test streaming to an allshare device.

You can download AllShare to your PC and then stream media to your phone.
http://www.samsung.com/global/allshare/pcsw/
I've tried but problem is, my phone does not see my laptop running Samung AllShare, I tried to disable firewall but no go.
Same here, tested with 2 allshare Samsung devices.
Also the the omnia media files are not enumerated.

Or you can download the patched version I attached in an earlier post. But either way, it doesn't work...
I can see my pc folders but cant open its content (simple pics in my case).
I can see file names of pics but then no pic is shown
I noticed that pc doesn't recognise my phone as connected.
Ok. The app seems to do a little more than I thought it could do.
This is what the app CAN'T do:
- It can't play media from other devices on the phone (app simply does not do that).
- It is not possible to play media from the phone to another device. The app supports it, but the drivers don't. The app now tries to open a file-list through the drivers. Samsung could easily update the drivers or the app to get access to the media files on the phone.
- It is not possible to play media to a DLNA DMP (Digital Media Player). A DMP has browsing capabilities, but do not support "Play To".
This is what the app CAN do:
- Select media from a DLNA DMS (Digital Media Server)
- Play it to a DLNA DMR (Digital Media Renderer). My TV (Sony Bravia KDL-40W5500) officially supports only DMP. It has some DMR capabilities (I can configure it in the menu). Allshare sees my TV, but the combination does not seem to work.
Maybe I'll try to patch it later on to give it access to the media on the phone. But this is not high priority for me now, so if I do it, it won't be anytime soon.

Motoactv remote control android phone music player

I'm researching The Motoactv and I'm having problems finding information regarding the possibility to remote controlling the music player on a android phone using the Motoactv and Bluetooth. It's one feature I really want to have on a smart watch!
Edit 1: I found a piece of software named Media Remote that act's as a BT headset. I tested with my phone and tablet both are running on the latest version of vanilla root box. It got everything I need play, pause, previous track, next track, mute and a volume controller. But I don't know if it works on the Motoactv.
If someone could test this software or know of something that works it would make my day.
Edit:2 adden link to Media Remote

I don't know if it will or not, but why would you want to? It can hold and play your music all on its own lol. If there's a bt remote app on the play store, it'll most likely work, though.

Well one could use the Motoactv as music player but I'm using a wired hedset and running a cord from my ears to my wrist would look stupid and be in practical. And I got 44gb storage on my phone and only 8gb on the Motoactv I'm looking to buy now. I have collection of audio books and music I like to carry with me at all times.
As stated above in my edited first post it would make my day if someone could test out the application media remote and report back on how it works on the Motoactv maybe even post a image off how it looks.

It doesn't look stupid..I do it all the time. Mind you I'm usually wearing a sweatshirt at the time, so I can feed the cord through the sleeve up to my ear. Works awesome actually.
That being said, it would be cool to control your phone music app with the watch. I'll give it a try when I have time.
So i finally got a motoactv (finding a used one for a good price in Sweden is not easy) and can report that the app Media Remote works like a charm on said device.

I haven't had any success getting it up and running. Was there any additional setup required on the phone side?
I installed the app on my motoactv but it my phone(Samsung S3) and the motoactv(8gb) will not hold a connection:S
What i did for it to work for me was. Install the app on both the phone and the motoactv, press antenna on the phone and motoactv (to make sure BT is active on both devices) then the magnifying glass on the phone and selecting the motoactv. and it connects for me. pressing the magnifying glass on the watch and selecting my phone will only result in unable to connect or if its connected already it will disconnect. I don't know why that is but guessing it has something to do with the motoactv app already being connected from the phone to the motoactv.
oh and a side note just noticed that you can change the volume using the hardware keys on the watch when the watch is displaying the media remote app (screen have to be turned on).
So I just checked the watch now about 3 h after connecting the phone and watch (when i did my last post) and it was disconnected, pressed the magnifying glass on the watch and selected my phone and it connected and worked just fine without even touching the phone. Its strange that it didn't worked last time i tried. now if I press it again it will disconnect and then a third time it will connect again.
There is another similar to the media remote application. It's called Music Remote. I really wish test both Media Remote and Music Remote however google play is unavailable in my country. And I have no way of downloading the applications (apk's) to my phone or computer.
So I am here to beg someone to please, please, please send me the apk's for Media Remote and Music Remote for testing.
Been searching for weeks now for these two apk's on alternative websites but cant find em. I really want to control my phone and computers music features using the motoactv.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help.

Keyboard and mouse sharing with a Windows computer

Well I've bought the Note 12.2 to boost my productivity and to do that I need to share my PC's mouse and keyboard with it,
I thought of side sync however it turned out the tablet only work as a host for a phone screen and doesn't connect to a host computer.
Then I tried share KM which as far as I can tell never works, tried it on SIII, NoteII, NoteIII, Note 10.1 2014 and never got it to work, still putting hope in it and reading all the great reviews I decided to install it on my 12.2 only to find a message saying that beta test have ended please update the application with no updated version available any where.
Is there any way I can achieve keyboard and mouse sharing between my PC and my 12.2?
Any way to actually achieve that seamless integration between windows and the android tablet just as if it was an extra screen?
UPDATE
Thanks for every one who replied, to make what I need clearer please watch the following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVvczhM5KxI
1- Samsung SideSync works when using a phone with a PC or a phone with a tablet, but not using a tablet with a laptop, which I need
2- ShareKM is abandoned and doesn't work any more.
3- Synergy is extremely buggy and takes more time to get it working than it actually operating as intended.
4- after digging deeper i found an app called take control lite, however it requires root access.
Thankfully towel root works brilliantly and doesn't trip Knox so i will try this app and update with the results.
UPDATE 2
Take Control Lite doesn't work with Note Pro for some reason it crashes every time you try to establish a connection.
I'm confused, are you looking to remotely control your tablet or are you looking to use it as a second display. For the latter I have used Air Display with limited success. I say limited because the resolution of the tablet being high the resulting scale of elements on screen is ridiculously small.

I did, but I assumed by 'side sync' he meant the process of side syncing, not the app SideSync. (Note the difference in names..)
I haven't given it a try at all. (As pretty obvious from the first-time launch message in the screenshot ) It's not something that is of use to me.
SideSync works differently on phones and tablet. On phones when you connect to a PC it screen mirrors or lets you control the phone with your PC's keyboard and mouse. On tablets, it acts as if the tablet were a PC. Meaning, when you SideSync a phone to a tablet the phone screen mirrors on the tablet and you can control the phone with the tablet's keyboard; including external BT keyboard and mouse if you're using them. You can't screen mirror or control a tablet with a keyboard and mouse from a PC. You can't really do anything with SideSync between a tablet and a PC.
From Samsung Apps...
The only one I know of is Synergy. It works well indeed between PCs .Between Android and PC (what you want) I never tested , it's in alpha and the tablet needs to be rooted.
I'm not sure exactly what OP is trying to accomplish, but logitech makes keyboards (e.g., k810) and mice that can pair with multiple devices and easily switch between them.

I wasn't at first either until I saw the video linked in post 3 of this thread. Skip to 1:22 in that video.
Upon looking for other similar solutions I ran across Synergy which is something I'd love to get working on my tablet.

I'm able to get the tablet to connect to synergy on my macbook but the tablet doesnt respond to any inputs from keyboard or mouse when i mouse over to it.
You guys can try this. It's from Rsupport who makes SideSync. I haven't used it in over a year but I used to use it to screen mirror and control my N10.1-12. It used to be a PC app but now looks browser based. It mentions something about needing to install a Samsung plug in from what I briefly read.

Well my friend I am sorry but I also didn't have any luck getting it to work, with several types of totally random bugs, for now i could only advice you not to use it
Here's Mobizen spoon fed to you.
Install this on your Windows PC (Mac users, you're on your own)...
https://www.mobizen.com/?locale=en
Install these on your tablet...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rsupport.mvagent
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rsupport.rsperm.aa.second
Mobizen works over Wi-Fi or USB. USB's faster and works with the Samsung driver installed by Kies.
Follow the password set-up instructions and you'll get this...
Thanks Barry. I tried this with my MacBook Pro using the chrome browser method and it works Ok in Wifi mode but disconnects repeatedly on the USB side. The windows standalone application is fantastic though and works well for me on my windows machine. Typing this right now using it.
