First batch of Galaxy S touch ground in Sweden (videos) - Galaxy S I9000 General

Well, Samsung Sweden doesn't seem to have too much to do all day long - since they went to Arlanda to record when the airplane carrying the first batch of Galaxy S for Scandinavians touch the ground

Yay, thanks

haha this is funny! I sure hope mine from the UK arrives before these go out to the Swedish shops though ^^

Well, with the lousy distribution system for these phones, you will probably have your first Tele 2 is the only operator announcing the Galaxy S, Telenor doesn't even know about the phone, and 3, well, they don't have it on their site either. Telia - well, they are iPhone crazy
Looks like Phonehouse has them in stock, but I just bought my HD2 with a one year contract there Waiting for Telenor to get it in stock so I can choose the Galaxy S instead of the Omnia HD. (Insurance case)
Well, don't forget to post a snapshot of you homescreen when you get one!

Same thing in Denmark. Not a single carrier is listing it on their website, and their shop employees knows sod all, never even heard of the Galaxy S...
My hope is that the phone will feature on mobil2kr.dk very soon. It's a sales site of Telenor, where the prices are very low. I hope for this as they had the Wave on that site before it hit the official Telenor site and shops, and the pricing of the Wave on the site leaves room for Galaxy S to sneak in just above it at about 300£ over 6 months(same as the X10).
Anyway, that's for me to get a headache over!
Regards

They should be available from certain distributors on the 21st.

Did get my Galaxy S in sweden this morning, so i am happy atm. To bad it did not have Swype in Swedish from start tho.. But other then that it is a dream to play around with.

Called Telenor yesterday, they told me "It will be available very soon." Probably in the upcoming weeks. I don't trust their queus thou. I was in a store asking for a Desire, they told me that they would call me asap when they got the phone, and that I was first on their list. 5 weeks, still no call

Orange Release the M5000

It looks like the race to launch the first HTC Universal by a network will be won be Orange with their SPV M5000, who today publish two press releases. Although it's probably going to be a few more days before these hit the stores, Orange have said that the 3G tablet-esque handset has been launched today in the UK, France and Switzerland. It'll be fully available in from early October in stores for approximately £400 ($721) in the UK and €600 in France and Switzerland, before subsidy. Pricing however will be subject to the customer's contract, local market conditions and local market tariffs (per customer).
This handset, with it's 3G data speeds, 3G video calling, Wi-Fi, full QWERTY keyboard and flip / tilt screen should sell extremely well to business users and heavy data users alike. It should also be an ideal solution to those seeking to use just one device to organise their personal and business lives.
Get the full press releases below or direct from Orange.com with the links.

£400 before subsidy. That's a very good price.
Means it should be from £100 to £250 on contract then. Very good indeed.
Excuse me, but what the hell does "launch" mean these days???
I remember the good old days when somebody 'launched' a product, that meant you could go and buy it!
Orange have had the phone on their website for aaages as "coming soon"
Today they 'launch' it, its still on the website as "coming soon"
Nothing changed. They couldnt mean they are announcing it because its been on their website for ages.
So basically, launch means, urm, "hype with stupid press release" a product that everybody already knows about and wants but they still damn well wont sell you.
Nice. I look forward to many more product 'launches' that dont involce a product of any kind, or indeed any new information on said product.
O2 did the same thing a few days ago too.

It shouldnt be this hard to give a company money for a new cellphone!

Wow, that sucks. Even SE reps said clove.co.uk would be the first retailer to ship unlocked units to customers as soon as tomorrow! I wonder what the issue is now, most likely either a major software malfunction or they shipped the wrong units that don't have 384MB of ram
dont expect to get it at end of October!
i getting used to SE lies!
i expect when end of October comes, new date is end of November!

Time to let Sony Ericsson hear your thoughts... start out with Xperiancers (run by a SE team including Magnus)...
I just posted this comment on their launch post: (hopefully they will reply)
Hi,
Clove has sent out e-mails that SE has delayed Xperia till the end of the month and thus it won't be available now. Is this true? if so, then it really sucks!
The set was "officialy" launched on the 30th of last month. Over 10 days later, still no final Xperia device has been seen, and no store is yet offering it on sale - i.e. having it in stock.
Furthermore, there is not a single page that details the entire specifications of Xperia in detail. The whitepaper that was recently linked to on Xperiancers was also from back in May. Does Sony Ericsson even know how to market their phones and how to detail them? Because from where i'm sitting, Johnny X seems to be the only marketing campaign at the moment and it is completely useless.
Over a month back i was determined to purchase Touch Pro... then i switched to Xperia and decided to wait. But now i am getting really impatient with Sony Ericsson and lack of any final device reviews and availability and this after 2 weeks of the "supposed" launch of Xperia.
Is there any chance that Xperia will be actually launched/availble within this week or early next? Or is it actually delayed?
I have to say that i am extremely disappointed in Sony Ericsson at this point and have pretty much lost confident in it. Even the demonstration video by Xperiancers done a few days back is on a prototype/non-final device which is what the demonstrator continuously states at the start and end of the demonstration.. Maybe i should just go for some other smartphone?
Hopefully you'll have enough decency to supply us with an insight on when actually will Xperia be available. I don't care about where it will be available - may it be UK or on a remote island - but just tell us WHEN WILL XPERIA BE ACTUALLY AVAILABLE?!?!?!?!?
Best Regards.
Salman Khalid.

y even bother with that site! they LIE just like SE!
"X1 is shipped on 9/30/2008 from factory as scheduled!". (not exact quote, but something like that).
Actually it probably has shipped but my guess is that it has gone to the carriers (Voda, O2 - maybe Orange - lol!). The carriers do not bring it out straight away as they are busy branding the phones with their sh*t - Orange and Voda are well known for that (Orange will even drop a phone if it can't put its software on to it).
O2 as far as I know don't brand it too heavily - hence why they may well be the first carrier out with it on Monday ( I have already seen adverts in Oxford Street). The carriers take priority and then the online outlets get their slice later....

You know, i think you are right... i have seen O2 claims that it'll be launching Xperia early next week and Vodafone is slated to release it by the 17th.
So maybe, it is stores such as Clove or Expansys that are delayed.

I still believe the swedish release date will be tomorrow. I'll be informed tomorrow morning IF it has been released and maybe I can try it out for a couple of minutes.

As far as i know, Expansys, Clove and other such sites have been delaying. But those launching against a network - like Vodafone or O2 - they are staying steady on their launch date.
Update:
Just got this from Clove - after i sent 'em an e-mail inquiring about the availability for Xperia. I also sent one to Expansys and will post their response too when they send it:
"Hi Salman, we have received news today that the release of the X1 has now been delayed until the end of this month. However, we have been assured that we will be among those receiving the first models once it is released. If you would like to place a backorder now you will be in the priority queue for a device. However, we will not charge your card for the order until the machines are in stock and ready to be shipped."
Now this here is a big concern for me... as i was looking forward to purchase Xperia within next week. Now it seems that it won't be available.
I would have probably waited longer, but phones don't come to Pakistan that quick after they are available, and my window for purchasing was via my brother who is travelling to UAE next week. Now i'm back to the same question; "To wait or not to wait? Xperia or some other?"
Update 2: But see, this guy gives me hope...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434822
thankfully my existing contract doesnt run out till march. Im still gettin an X1 as soon as they come out, ill just pay my contract off
Xperia is definitely launched in Sweden... When will it be available at clove or expansys? i don't know, but i'm certain that networks will be launching as planned.
Sounds as if it was an extremely limited stock that was released to Sweden though. To be honest I think they were still making some last minute changes in the face of known deficiencies - for instance on one recent video the reviewer said it came with the SPB Shell Panel, whereas MR's review unit did not have this.
Spb panel must be downloaded from SE`s website. (It is free.) It is not pre-installed on the device.
Thats what I thought, but not according to the video where he says it was pre-installed... Who the heck really knows, waaay too much conflicting information around this phone (theres a lesson in there for you SE).

Galaxy S2 SIM-free owners last to get ICS, Samsung UK admits

Samsung Galaxy S2 owners who bought their device SIM-free are at the back of the UK Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade queue, Samsung has confirmed to CNET UK.
And the reason you've been kept waiting? It's because Samsung is waiting for some mobile networks to finish testing the update, so it can be sure the software will work whatever network you're on.
SIM-free S2 owners will get the ICS update "once we've got all of the operator pieces on board", said Simon Stanford, VP of Samsung Telecommunications and Networks for Samsung UK and Ireland, speaking exclusively to CNET UK today.
The upgrade process Samsung has used to push out ICS to S2 owners means SIM-free devices can't be updated until all mobile networks have tested and approved ICS -- and since some operators are still testing and approving the update, some SIM-free S2 owners are still waiting to get Ice Cream Sandwich.
'It's got to work'
"We work in conjunction with our partners to bring ICS to the existing base -- that's primarily what needs to happen, whatever network operator that may be," said Stanford. "In this particular instance, the open market variant [ie SIM-free] you would expect to come out first."
Stanford confirmed, however, SIM-free S2 owners have been left twisting in the wind. "As an open-market customer you will be on a variety of networks, so it's got to work on whichever network you have chosen," he said.
SIM-free S2 owners -- many of whom shelled out extra upfront for an unlocked handset in the hopes of being at the front of the upgrade queue -- have in fact trailed operators such as Three, which was the first operator to release the ICS update. O2 has also now pushed out the ICS update.
"We were working with our operators to make sure that we brought it out to as many people as we can," Stanford added. "Vodafone we're expecting imminently [to release ICS]. Open market will be once we've got all of the operator pieces on board... It'll come at very much the same time."
'We don't want to disadvantage anyone'
Stanford would not confirm exactly how many SIM-free S2 owners have received the ICS update so far, nor give a completion date for the ICS update rollout -- he would only say: "We're really pushing it hard over the next coming weeks."
"It's always very tight, in terms of the testing processes and all the rest of it," he said. "It's not a switch in Korea and then the whole thing just activates every device that is out there... We work very closely with the networks to help them get ICS out.
"Everyone holds their hands up and says, 'Well, we need to do more in these instances.'"
Asked whether consumers would be better off buying a device from a network rather than SIM-free if they want to ensure they get future Android updates promptly, Stanford said: "In this instance [they would have been better off on a network]. Moving forward, I anticipate the upgrades will come a lot faster, at once, with everybody."
He added that it's not Samsung's intention to prioritise SIM-free device buyers in future, rather it wants to level the playing field so everyone gets the update around the same time.
"We don't want to disadvantage anyone, we don't want to say that they have to buy it from anywhere, we want everyone to have the same experience, whether or not it's open-market, network, to us they're exactly the same," he said.
'Communication can be managed better next time'
Stanford conceded that communications is an area where Samsung can make its own improvements. And he apologised to any SIM-free S2 owners who have been disappointed by how long it's taken to get ICS.
"The communication itself can be managed a bit better next time," he said. "It's just an ongoing process piece that we work very closely on to try and make sure we get it absolutely bang on so we apologise to anyone -- we really apologise to anyone -- who has been disappointed by this.
"We're always desperate to get [updates] out as fast as we can, there's no reason for us not to. We don't like to have unhappy customers, it goes against everything that we do. We do take it very seriously. It's communication sometimes we need to work on -- I accept that. That there needs to be perhaps more overall communication with the partners involved as well," he said.
"We are happy now that ICS is rolling out and those people that we've spoken to are very happy with it," Stanford added. "We're always looking for ways to speed it up -- with regards to Galaxy Note... the upgrade on that will be a lot quicker."
Are you still waiting for your SIM-free S2 to be upgraded to ICS? Let us know in the comments, or post your own update over on our Facebook page, and watch my video below to see what you're missing.

I have unlcoked phone and i will just keep flashing other country firmwares untill samsung finsh testing it on all these networks
This is a joke in all fairness, however if you're on XDA there's no reason why this should affect your ability to get hold of ICS.
But, for the majority of the population (who aren't on XDA) this is just unforgivable.
Worth waiting for a finished ICS six months down the line . No way will i change to the current half baked versions .

Network testing haha. Why have other countries got the unbranded update straight away ? But here in the uk we wait for the networks to test. I think uk networks have some sort of deal with samsung or it maybe to do with sgs3. But "waiting for networks to test" jus isnt gna fly cz that a lie.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
This really is a sorry excuse for logic. To really follow it would mean Samsung UK has to wait till ALL cellular carriers around the world confirm the UK SGS2 SIM-Free ICS update works with their networks?!
Otherwise, there *might* be some unfortunate UK SGS2 SIM-Free owner running ICS that encounters problems when he moves to Timbuktu and use his phone with the local cell network!
Samsung UK... YOU SUCK!
Does suck but how many ordinary citizens even know about ice cream sandwich, most people don't have a clue I bet a lot of people are still on the original firmwares that shipped with the phone. My sister wanted to go back to gingerbread as she thinks battery life on ICS sucked even though she got the official O2 update.
So for normal citizens who use a phone without worrying about updates this won't effect them but for us and other geeks and such its bothersome but hey that's why we come here and flash whatever comes our way from other countries regardless if it's final or not or buggy but because we can.

You spent the money on great hardware and rock solid gingerbread.
Free software upgrades to a complete new system are a relatively new thing. You can expect / demand updates to GB but to ICS I don't think so.

Love the why did I spend money comments! And this update is FREE, remember when apple was charging to get the ios 3.0 update? Give it a rest, and if your sooooo adamant on getting ics, there are many available downloads right here on these pages. Otherwise, the 1% of s2 owners on this forum aren't going to make a blip on samsungs radar when the 19,999,000 are happy with there phones.
Relax, be happy, there are worse things going on in the world at the moment.

Amazing world we live in
What a load of crap.
Unbranded updates for Galaxy S and SII always came either first or alongside Optus release, here in Australia - Telstra only just released 2.3.6 last month and the rest of the carriers and unbranded was released many months ago.
It just doesn't add up. Track record shows this excuse is a total load of bs.
Why the hell isn't Samsung responsible for testing the carriers? For example Samsung Australia division should be totally responsible for testing the Unbranded version of all 4 carrier networks. These phones are not even sold by the carriers so it's not their responsibility !!
This is so damn lazy of Samsung.
Yeah right. They just dont want the carriers to ***** that others are getting the update before their customers are. Just like how they didnt want to make sure every carriers phone were working ok before selling people this device unlocked and just how they didnt care to update people after 2.3.4. My phone has had problems since then and samsung hasnt cared to update. This just leaves a bad taste in my mouth from samsung. I wanted the S3 but I dont even know if I want to buy a phone they arent going to update.

Yeah right. Unbranded devices never got updated past 2.3.4 and its been buggy. Anytime I restart my phone the icons move around and I have to move them back. Dont think you a moment you are getting a more polished update. You are getting the same update that has been psoted on here from some random carrier from a country you probably have never heard it. Pathetic Samsung. They even lied to us saying we would have it by the end of Q1.
Samsung UK are crap, exactly the same as when our GS2 was stuck on 2.3.3 and I knew for a fact that newer ones with the same product code were shipping with, or updating to 2.3.4, and all they kept saying was no update was available, just vecause they couldn't be bothered to fix the original HIDSWVER that they'd forgotten to add updates for.
In the end last weekend I flashed the Polish LPS onto it as it kept locking up, seems to be ok now. And the Polish LPS one includes the generic UK (XEU) and generic CPW UK (CPW), csc customisation packs anyway, so no reason at all for Samsung UK to be making up this BS. It even comes with all the UK network APN settings preloaded in it. I've never seen an unbranded update come after branded ones until this mess. Same as O2 on 2.3.6 with Gingerbread, and unbranded on 2.3.4 (or in my case 2.3.3). People buy unbranded to get a clean update, not to wait for all the branded crap to be tested.

HTC One Launch - (15th March UK)

Hi All,
Im questioning this, but i thought i would share what i just chatted about with a local p4u shop.
short story: Was told it might be able to buy as early as the 1st of March.
long story:
I went in to ask if i could pre order to pick up from store (i knew i couldnt but i was hoping they would hold one
for me or something like that )
Guy said let me just check when there coming in, he mentioned he was getting a single unit delivered today
and i was free to come back and play with it. Obviously i said yes to this as only one ive played with has been in a big
metal shell. So im waiting on a phone call for that.
But he seemed to think i would be able to buy the phone from this Friday (1st march). He did mention that he wasnt 100% sure on this
and did say dont pre order it online as it takes 4 days to process it and you wont get it before, so it could be a ploy to get me to wait
til its in to buy it from them.
This is only a tiny local p4u shop so the fact its getting a unit delivered today would suggest that they have a fair few in. So mabye they
are giving a few out before hand to those special customers (i wish)
The fact they all knew what the HTC one is shocked me, ive been in phone stores when a new phone has just been released and they
dont even know what its called!
I dont want to say the local store name as they did ask me not to tell anyone i would get to play with one.
Any opinions/thoughts?
Personally I think they are getting Fridays mixed up, but a man can dream.
If i get hands on it i will try and get a few photos/video if they let me.

SFR (french mobile operator) announced it yesterday on their website dedicated to android.
You can take a loot at it : android[dot]sfr[dot]fr/htc-one-chez-sfr/ (french) (I can't write a link because i'm a new account :/ )
Very interesting if that is the case I will cancel my preorder and just get one in store instead in a week or so.
Maybe HTC have decided to pull the release date up so they can trump the Samsung attempt at trumping them ...
but SFR are really only declaring that they'll have it available "first on their web site on March 5th" and then 'progressively' to all their shops ... so it could be an earlier release is imminent, or it might just be a marketing ploy by SFR to get in front of the other French providers by making it look as though they will get it out sooner. We all know about mail order and delivery delays eh ???

Hi All,
Im questioning this, but i thought i would share what i just chatted about with a local p4u shop.
short story: Was told it might be able to buy as early as the 1st of March.

P4U in the Bull Ring centre have had a unit to play with for a few days..........shops with demo units.
I've been trying to find other places to play with the One but no one else seems to have found anywhere.

yer i know i was one that told people. Problem is the one is in a big case that you cant move, i.e. you dont get a feel for the phone
the design and cant use either of the camera's.

IMO when they say 5th of march it only say available on the website from the 5th of march to pre order it and not to buy it.

I don't know, SFR has often some exclusiveness (nexus 4, purple XZ, etc.) so I think the ONE will be available on March 5th but only for SFR. I'll contact them on twitter, we'll see what are they gonna say.

I hope it's true. Don't forget the Xperia Z is launching on March 1st and pre-orders have been good so far so the sooner the ONE is out the better. Hopefully they don't have supplies issues with the ONE and I'm praying the 64GB version is out at the same time.

yer the 64gb would be nice but i really cant see it happening. (read somewhere htc said it was official it wasnt coming to the uk via twitter??)
I think they release it after 2 months to try keep sales going/when the s4 goes on sale.
But tbh 32gb will be enough for me, just hope most of it is usable!
So SFR answered me on twitter : " Hello, for the moment we don't have information different from those accessed from the page provided. It will be an open order though. " Raaaaa,

I think you're right. Larger capacity items almost always seem to come later. Mind you Expansys dot ca has it listed and is taking pre-orders so maybe at most 1 month wait?
Release date in Italy said to be on March 8th.

Again, Germany is the last one country in EU....
Re: HTC One early launch???
Spoke to HTC IN work and the UK launch was meant to be the 8th but has been put back to the 12th but was told that could be subject to change

O2 customer pre orders delayed [was 15th, now 29th march]

Just received a txt from O2 to let me know with "apologies"
I'm absolutely gutted as I most likely will miss out on sending in my I9100 to Samsung to exchange for a smart camera. (unless I can get something cheap to coast on for a week...)
I have had a HD2 previously and have missed the sense and build quality (resorted to a Taurus case to give my sgs2 a bit of weight and durability)
Maybe I will see what the sgs4 has in store :/

Very disappointed to know about your order delayed, I am also worried about my one from P4u let me call right now and ask about it....
btw from what deal you and and from where?
---------- Post added at 06:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:59 PM ----------
Just had chat with P4U but their answer are not precious or much helpful:
"Thank you for that I can see here that your order is pending the stock for release, we do not have any update to say there is a delay on this handset so we expect it to arrive as per the release date. You will receive an email to confirm the dispatch and we do pay for next day delivery although we do ask you to allow up to 3-5 working days to receive this in case of any courier delays."
That sux for EU, maybe HTC is shipping most of the One for US release
Tapatalk 2
When you order the HTC One from o2 you get free beats in ears .. at least that is the deal here in Germany.
The earbuds aren't that great, but it's still a nice addon
are o2 offering you anything as a gesture of goodwilll ??
Vodafone offered to take a month's bill off for me the last time such a thing happened
I really wonder why I never see anyone out of the US with a HTC smartphone, mostly droids and a whole bunch of iPhones.
Too bad Europe has to wait because of the production delays and the USA devision of HTC which get most of the first bunch of phones. (Dont get me wrong I'm really happy for you Americans, but I aswell want this phone asap, my Desire Z is absolutely done after more than two years )

Hope yours isnt delayed. Wonder if this is a handset supply issue?
After ordering mine I trawled through all my local phone shops to see if I could get my hands on one to get a feel of the premium finish. Only one with a dummy was phones 4 u.
carphone warehouse guy told me he was waiting for a dummy 2 days b4 release (this was today) but would not comfirm when that was.

Always wanted a Desire z. had a nokia comunicator before smart phones took off. Part of me had hoped some one might have given it another go round now, but I wont hold my breath.

funnily enough I had just read about that 10-15mins before I got the text.
Not sure, I had originally ruled it out as everyone else seemed on track for the 15th.
now, the more I'm reading, the more I'm inclined to agree.
I've managed to dig out my wife's old 1st gen iphone ....
Man, the next couple of weeks are going to draaag....
At least I can try and skin it with grogorz Dusk theme Sure I have seen a forum thread somewhere.
Just had a look on the CPW website and they are now saying delivery "expected" March 29th. Holy Cow.
And soon everyone else will follow. The germans took them.

If the US is getting the first batch of phones how come Pre-orders aren't open yet
If there is a delay expect to see the few people who do get one putting them on ebay at ridiculous prices.

Strange, this is what I found earlier today : http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_might_get_delayed_due_to_components_shortage-news-5667.php
"Even though HTC promises to launch the phone on March 15, lots of markets might not get it before May (at the earliest). HTC has already declared the USA market as a major target, so if the rumors come true it's likely that other markets might not get the smartphone for months."
