Camera on X10 - XPERIA X10 General

Guys
How would you able to take good shots on X10?
Why is it blurred or like my pics is taken on an Iphone cam. Too much noise etc and not good. It's like I'm using a VGA or 0.3 cam.
Can you guys advice me a good settings or tips to make the cam better
TIA

I got the same issue, the pic taken by X10 is worse than X1 (8M VS 3M)

a few mine findings on x10 camera..
when is enough light there is no problem, auto settings is good.
when taking pic indors but with enougt light use sport setting, then pic will not be blured (same for video) coz exposure time is shorter, but if there is not enough light pic will be tooo dark with sport setting, then use defaul setting and try to keep phone steady as you can while focusing and while pressing key and second after that..
i got great results

Pics
Personally, I find the camera fantastic (until you zoom right, right in). It almost seems like they've used a 4mp camera and doubled the res as the pixels seem very blocky close up.
I'll upload when i can!

I never changed the settings or MP nor cam I enabled photo light too on some shots.
Example of a very good light condition is my laptop. you see its disgusting. the light is from bulb that is very good, and yet I get a crappy pics even with image stabilizer on

i've also noticed that image stabiliser make pic even worse, with that option i got less details, washed out colours...

Man those pictures look like NOTHING my X10 makes. You are either the worst photographer or there's something wrong here. Here's a few I made with my X10:

I've had no problems with the camera either.. i've really good quality photos with the X10. the only i have is the ease of access to the flash

Any tips? I'm bad at photography I know that that's why I'm asking for what settings what things do to etc.?

EV -7 when is too much light.
EV -3 in "normal" conditions
Always keep the sun behind you.
Also, depending what you shoot you can change the metering.

Well, my X10i also takes great pictures, and i usually use automatic settings. Here are some samples (I resized image size, just click the thumbnails):

Yeah those things bugs me
The metering too.
What should I set to this center average?

Well, my X10 also takes good pictures, one thing i noticed on your shots is that they're not focused and all blurry, did you wait until the focus was alright ? (when semi pressing the camera button, the focus in the middle of the screen should become green or red if it thinks the focus is not good enough)
Also, for close-up shots you should definitely enable macro mode.
here's an example i just took of a 20ct coin, with low lighting :
(unfortunately i can't give any higher res pic since i can't post links :/)

I had blurry pictures when I first got my x10.. but after setting the camera to "Scene Reognition" under Capturing Mode, it fixed all the problems. Hope that helps

i use touch fokus and now take better pictures

i have the same problem as gr3yh0und
and i dont know what to do ?!!
please someone tell me the ebst setting for camera

My pictures are too soft.
Way too soft.
I will have to give it a try without image stabilization to see if it makes a difference.

Here's a low-light shot from tonight... Went to the Airport park.
It's geotagged correctly on flickr as well.

According to the websites, yes.
Thanks for the links Archius.
Seems that the camera is ok for snaps (I have been spoiled by the Carl Zeiss optics of the Nokia N Series) but then I guess the camera is not what you would buy this phone for!

What camera settings did you use?
Great pictures, much better then my HD2 HD2 performs awful in the darkness - overexposes every picture with the leds. So I won't miss the led except for flashlight purposes
at least we can see under low light xD
the normal light picture is not bad, much better than HTC's quality and everything seems clear enough for a phone cam.
but it doesn't capture the sunlight that well, it makes a "whitish" effect in the picture lol not sure how to describe. but it ruins the real colors.
holy crap. in decent lighting those stills looks pretty darn good for a phone.
and the video is REALLY impressive for a phone.
it appears that it doesnt do well in low light, but still... im impressed.

Thank you so much!
Hmm, if the camera is similar to that on my Omnia I then I’d recommend manually setting the ISO rather than leaving it on auto. Also, I’d be curious if manually focusing on a specific object would perhaps result in a sharper low light photo (my Omnia has problems auto focusing in low light/low contrast situations).
If you want me to take some specific shots I can try. I've been messing around with the settings i.e macro, iso etc.
I took this today on the Galaxy S, I didnt check the settings, its still all on default. It was taken freestanding so could probably be sharper, but was pretty much just point and shoot. Its not edited apart from the 50% reduction to make it viewable on here. Colours are as they were captured, and not bad for a camera phone.

[Q] Poor picture quality on X10a

Hello,
I've had my X10a for about 2 weeks now and noticed very poor picture quality while taking pictures. My old iPhone 3G takes much better pictures in comparison.
I've read forum posts and have googled for possible solutions, such as different settings (scene recognition and others) which have not helped.
All pictures I take look grainy and pixelated in well lit conditions and worse in not so bright environments. I can notice this while previewing the pictures on the phone however it's exponentially worse when I transfer them to my computer to see.
- Any ideas how to address this issue?
- Firmware issue?
- Faulty camera?
Model = x10a (rooted)
Firmware = 1.6
Kernel = 2.6.29 rel
Build Number = R2BA023
Thanks,
B.
I'm having a similar problem as well,
I've read about the causes being shaky hands, smudged lens, etc,
but I tried a lot of things and I'm having difficulty getting a decent picture. I hope it's not a 2mp sensor they put in there.
I don't think my camera issues are as bad as yours sound to be but my X10i takes worse pics than my pervious C905 did, blurry and bad focusing.
Posted from my X10i using XDA App
I don't have that issue at all. Compared to my iPhone my X10 takes superior pictures. The quality is sometimes grainy when the lit is dim, but in direct sunlight the pictures are phenomenal.
yeh when i used the touch screen to take pictures i always get blurry images. I guess sometimes its the settings you use.
Try out Vignette from the market...It works a lot better than the stock camera app. There's a discussion about it on here somewhere...
Thanks for the replies so far. I'll give Vignette a try.
Hi,
Did you try turning on the image stabilizer?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
I'm using Camera 360 with a lot better results. The stock camera app compress too much, and using Camera 360, you can set the quality to 80 or even 100%, so now I getting a lot more detailed pictures.
Let me know if this software addresses your problem!
+1 for Vignette. Money well spent.
Yeh I tried the IS setting but that didnt make the image any sharper.
I moaned about pictures too but gave it to a bloke from work who's an amteur photograper (i.e. pervert) and he got some amazing pictures out of it. I guess you need a bit of skill, not that I've got any!!! my pics are all drunk at festivals

How did I miss this?! I didn't even notice that before. My shots were perfect before but with this it may be a lot better.
I'd post some examples but it wont let me.
IS makes images too soft.
Vignette doesn't have EV control (or iso, aperture, etc)
Camera FX ... i can;t seem to find a way to set it to 8MP.
I will have to try Camera 360.
Sorry, but my X10 takes better pictures than any other smartphone that I've seen, besides the N900.
You're shooting it wrong
With image stabilization my camera has been pretty damn good.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Im using the x10a as well, definately something wrong with your camera. I'd try cleaning it like others have mentioned. Here are a couple i took with Vingette that you can compare to.
Here's a picture I took last Friday at night of a bright building using the stock camera app. If you think the image quality is poor, I can't help you.

Possibly a bad camera?

perhaps you need to adjust lighting effects and try holding the camera for steady?
Short of mounting the camera on a tripod I can't get much steadier.

Wow your pictures look kinda bad. Try to take some of other things and post back. Because my pictures look way better then those. Also are these zoomed pictures? there really is no need to zoom pictures because its digital zoom.

They are cropped portions of the full-sized images, zoomed in to be about 150% of the original size.
I'll put up some other photographs later this evening.
Odd, i've seen some 720p videos from a desire Z while someone is driving in a car and they look fine.
Well, I think I have gotten to the bottom of it.
I took two almost identical pictures, one with my phone and one with a Samsung Moment. Samsung Moment has significantly higher image quality, and the image size was about twice that of my G2.
My guess is that the G2 is applying a significantly higher level of image compression...
Took a few quick pics for comparison sake:
I could bust out the ol Incredible for comparison sake...
try pushing the cam button halfway to focus and set option to auto instead of infinity
I appreciate your response, but honestly, I DO know how the camera works.
I think mine might be defective. It's also extremely foggy in a lot of situations.

SGS II Camera shots

Hi, I decided to buy SGS II as soon as it will be on stock in my country. For now there is so few reviews with full res. photos. Many people will be glad to see camera quality from real users. So please share some photos with us. Many THX
PS: Its not condition, but only full 8Mpx resolution photos show the real quality and amount of detail and sharpness of the photos.
Here are some untouched Macro shots taken in my backyard in fading light with the Galaxy S II, was a bit windy so the flowers kept moving:
Click for full sized image
Nice macros, I can imagine better shots without wind and with some exposure correction EV -0.5 or EV -1 you will get more sharpness and contrast...THX I will doubt more mates will join and show off their own photos...I will appreciate some sceneries and middle range photos in good light conditions...
I'll get some done later.
I'll post a few for you shortly. Stay tuned

Yeah, the longer range stuff does seem to lack a little sharpness at the moment. I don't know if I can overcome that with the settings or not. Macro and reasonably close range stuff is excellent, and it's taking some brilliant pictures of my kids.
I haven't done a vast amount of low light stuff yet either.
Also quite importantly, it's quick. I've found that compared to the iPhone, a lot of smartphone cameras take a while to actually get the shot, or to load up so you can start using them. SGS2 does neither, it's quick to load in, and the shots are pretty much instant in the right mode.
I'll try and get a sports mode example too, that's quite a fun toy to play with. It'll track a moving target in a panorama mode.

Notice the yellowish on right side of photo, it seem like many of the user of sgs2 having this problem on led flash, and it all occur at the right handside of photo
this made me remember on the n86 led flash ---> yellowish led light. May I know sgs2 flash light color is white or yellowish?
I was messing around with the macro on one of the grass shots but I didn't tap focus for any of the pics, just point and click. For the first two I think they look like that because I was pointing the lens in the direction of the sun to see how they would come out.

Best photo you've taken on the GS2

As the topic suggests, what is the best photo you've managed to capture on your Galaxy S 2?!
Examples would be great.
I'm not proficient with photography by any means, but these came out pretty good for a phone camera. I'm starting to find the following:
1) Low light pictures don't look good at all, seems this camera really needs a good amount of light to put out decent looking pictures. But, many standalone point and shoot digital cams have issues with low light as well, so this isn't all that shocking.
2) Pictures taken with flash look really off colorwise sometimes. Many times, the pictures come out with a blueish purple hue.
3 pictures: Macro, close range, and medium to far away.
