Iphone 4 HD , hd2 killer? - HD2 General

So Iphone 4 has just been announced , it looks pretty neat.
Do you think it's a HD2 Killer?
Will you be getting it?

1. No
2. No

Maybe and no but then again a glass of water can kill any HD2 lol.
If anything I wasn't that impressed with the information released for the iPhone 4, I'm not saying it doesn't look like a good improvement on previous iPhones but I'm not going to quickly ditch my HD2 for it. I'd still prefer to have an EVO but I know that will never happen .
Saying that though, my HD2 is awesome it continually manages to amaze me everyday and thanks to crazy developers here on XDA there's always something new just round the corner for me to try.
In fact my HD2 is the best HD2, everyone elses is just a imitation of my brilliant one, you poor people lol .

I wasn't really impressed with the specs on the iphone 4... Apple really didn't do anything ground breaking with it. Screen size is still the same... But honestly I guess that's why I love my HD2... The screen and the camera... In all fairness thought the OG iphone set the precedent a while ago and other phone manufacturers use that as their benchmark.

Why in the world would I want a phone with a tiny 3.5" screen?

i wonder how much RAM are there in the iPhone 4. the design looks weird for an apple product and i don't like the name at all! the screen resolution is crazy for a 3.5" phone. have they made it at least 3.8 " then it would be great. just cannot go back to a 3.5" screen anymore. and I wonder how does the multitasking work.

Screen too small indeed. Stupid, such a resolution is too fine be put to use on 3.5".
Same but designed as the HD2, same screen size and thin border, yes. They still haven't understood...

One word: NO!

It depends on the user, if you like doing more tweaks and learning more fun on your phone then hd2 is your phone. You cannot do on iphone what you can do on hd2.

I wasnt overly impressed by anything but the fact that you could edit your vidoes via the phone. I suppose any phone could do that but apple always does such a great job of software intergration that its hard to over look.
The book reader app I thought was alittle silly. Specially when thats one of the main points of getting An Ipad. But i guess thats built into the os so not much we can do about that.
lastly I thought that having video chat was cool(even tho evo did it first in the us)but I couldnt get over the fact that it was just via wifi. I would have rather had the option to use it via 3g . Im sure that people will jailbreak it but with the new pricing plans for data who will want to .
Personally I think the data plan change over shadows this release. In places where wifi is readily accessible It guess it wont matter much.

you are talking about that toyphone thing I see people playing with. I guess I might buy it for my kids if I ever have any. For now there isn't anything better can the hd2 with an awesome winmo custom ROM.

1Ghz A4 CPU and 512Mbs RAM? I think not.
In the grand scheme of things HTC are looking at stuffing a 1.5Ghz dual core into some of it's up and coming phones, so I can't see the iPhone 4 competing with that.
And I've never seen anyone bang on about video calls so much in my life, it's a five year old technology!
Oh and the 'redesigned iPhone' heading from that BBC link says it all, same ****, different case.

Dont mean to sound rude but
You asking us if a brand new phone (doesnt matter who its made by) is going to kill of a phone thats half a year old?
Are you joking?

Apple fans will love it.... People who believe all the hype will think that it's the first phone with video conferencing... The rest of us will love to hate it...
More people will end up with an iPhone 4 than an HTC device but I like it that way personally.

Why I am not buying this phone..!

I was an early adopter of the first generation touch HD and was instantly underwhelmed by this "flagship" phone, mainly due to its poor video capabilities and lack of TV out.
So, we on earth have yet again taken a step back?, no tv out, granted the video capabilites are up to scratch but to not offer TV out at this stage is for want of a better word and insult.
The main contenders the iphone and omnia 2 and omnia HD both offer good tv out but HTC have again decided to offer us a cut down "flagship" phone. For me this is the last straw.
Where I cannot move to IPhone as I hate itunes with a passion that should only be reserved for a child killer it is starting to look like this is the only option as the samsungs have there own little problems.
I have 7 months left on my contract and may even keep the HD until someone comes out with a decent snap drap / arm cpu that has HD out on winmo.
HD2, suck my pole..!
It's true that no TV Out is sad, but in which case should it be usefull?
I always have my computer when i want to watch thing on "big" screen...

Never needed a TV out on my phone and don't think I ever will. Guess its time to say bye bye! Main reason I stay with HTC is for the overwhelming support on this forum. Good look on finding that with the Omnia.
Wait til the Tegra phones start coming out, then it's more likely to happen.
I think the usefulness of TV out speaks for itself which is why it is already on the main contender flagship phones and on other HTC devices. Watching movies with freinds, showing photo slidehows with family, business presentations etc, the uses are endless.
I don't understand all the emotion surrounding these phones, if you like it you buy if you don't, buy it not. I was disappointed in the TP2 specs, so I did not buy it. Someone wiser than me once said: Don't leave angry, just leave. It's better that way though, right?

This comes from the frustration I have witht he HD v1 and HTC's dealing with drivers and video performance (still unaddressed). like me a lot of people were hoping this was going to be the phone the HD1 wasnt, disapointment, not anger really.

+1 here as well.
I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about. Yes, the mobile phone market is now about having as many features as possible on 1 device, but how many people make use of all the features? The more features they can cram into one device the more compromises they make over the quality of them all. There's two lists of requirements, 'must haves' and 'nice to haves', video call, TV-out better camera are all part of the nice to have list. HTC has always been a business oriented company focusing on the needs of the business and they have never set out to be the best of the best. It's was only when Samsung and Apple arrived on the scene that everyone demanded HTC to be more consumer focused. HTC are making slow progress to addressing this issue and they'll slowly get there. Look at Blackberries, they're still going strong and most of their phones have half the features we're expecting these days.
So, if you don't like the HD2, don't complain, you either like it or hate it! Move on!
TOUCH HD vs. OMNIA II vs. HD 2
Hello
I'm coming from an ETEN X500 over a N95 for two years and I want to go back to touchscreen now. I know the usage of the HD from a friend of mine, the Iphone and I have played around for 3 Hours last Thursday with the OMNIA II i8000.
The result is, that the OMNIA has TV Out but you can not use this thing in everydays life. Its awfull slow, the UI is horrible and the touchscreen is bad.
The AMOLED is great, ok. But at the end I think Samsung needs about 2 generations of phones to reach the Touch HD. And if the HD 2 is only half as good as the reviews say its much better than the Samsung devices.
The lag of TV-Out is sad anyway.
Bye

your posting is just to personal. I saw numerous complaints about lack video out, but I'm sure just a small amount of users like you will be disappointed, but is this a real deal breaker? It doesn't bother me a tiny bit at all. I was disappointed only by the lack of front camera, but I wouldn't make a thread trying to tell everyone HD2 sucks because it doesn't have one for me. How many phones are that perfect so far? HD2 is pretty much the most perfect phone to me and I'm sure to many others that didn't even bother about your complaint here.

I don't see the need for TV out either...with a 360 and upnp I can stream from any of my laptops etc, and frankly if I'm brining media elsewhere I'm not going to cross my fingers that whereever I go is going to have the right connector (vga vs hdmi vs component vs svideo vs rca etc).
It's too bad that this is such an important thing to you- my real concerns are lack of a d-pad, but even that won't stop me from picking one of these up like free booze at an AA convention.
clearly you all have much more money than I do, when I buy a new gadget, (now lets not pretend it is anything else as if you just wanted a phone you would still have your 10 year old nokia), I want to get my moneys worth. For me to shell out another effective £500+ on a phone it has to be a decent upgrade.. what are we really getting here?, big screen, so what?, same res as hd1, compass, give me a break, speed - granted you get speed but with the right ROM the HD1 is more than adequate to do most things, albeit with a bit of reenocding.

I am no HD Owner but from my raph point of perspective this is a pretty decent upgrade and I feel after all this time squeezing the most out of my raph that this phone out of the box doesn't need any squeezing. When I will cook a ROM for this phone I'm going to make sure that everthing that works now is stays that way and loose the extra's.
If you have a chance to test it or check it out, I would recommend doing so you might be a little more suprised then you suspect. That being said there are still a couple of decent devices in HTC's line up, and if you are HTC HD you might just have to hold on to your HD for a bit, as its probably to young for you to throw it aside ,

Pls convince me not to wait for iPhone 4g

Seriously annoyed with myself right now. Waited for this HD2 for a while now and it JUST became available on my corp website (US-Tmo) - could pick it up now if I wanted.
Of course now I'm considering if I wouldn't want to wait it out for the new iPhone to get announced June 7 and then roll onto my corp plan.
I specifically bought an iPod Touch so I would NOT be tempted to buy an iPhone for the wrong reasons.
But after suffering through 4 Sprint TP1's, and now on a Sprint TP2, I'm less than thrilled - and maybe wondering if I should just give up and go to dark side to get reliable operation. That is my biggest issue - phone is always stuttering and doing stuff I don't want it to - despite the upgrade to Sense 2.5, I still feel like I'm fighting the phone half the time.
I really really like the open source nature of winmo and hate the box Jobs creates around his products, but in my experience with my iTouch - it just works.
I played with the HD2 in the store and while the screen is much better now, I still felt I was trying to convince myself the keyboard and browser were as good as my iTouch - and that's the first sign I guess they're not.
Anyway, have at me - I'm just on the fence now.
EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: I should point out, the only reason I went to the TP2 was Sprint forced me to burn an upgrade as I was "so close" to my 1 yr warranty they wouldn't process another upgrade and staunchly refused to move me to TP2 w/o fee as the famous memo said they should. However, I only upgraded after I was given written proof they will let me out of my contract with no ETF if I'm unhappy for any reason. So I have a get out of jail free card I intend to use as soon as I make up my mind and screw them right back.
Why stop there? Why not wait for the iphone 5g or the HD3?
Get what "you" want!!
You are going to hear how good this phone is!! I love it! But it is not for everyone. If you like easy, stay with what you are used to. No one can decide for you. I researched for months, before it came out. I'm happy with what it is, & has, not what it might be or get!!
ive seen the iphone hype and i dont care
a whole bunch of people dont care about hype, ironically they themselves are a demographic group.
i ordered my hd2 yesterday when my network rang me by suprise 3 months early offering an upgrade.
i guess they knew some pretty new phones were gonna be out (or at least in serious pre-release hype) when my contract expired.
i have an hd1 and just ordered my hd2 (arrives in a few hours ahem) i guess its pretty late in terms of how long the phone has been out, but i was always put off by the screen being too big to be a 'phone' as the hd1 is the maximum size in my opinion. i wanted the hd2 to be exactly what it is now, but the same size as the hd1.
why would you want an iphone anyway?
i have an iphone... i bought it dirt cheap broken it looked like it had been run over. i fixed it and got everything working, even jailbroke it put some apps etc but i never bothered to put it back together because i have a hd.
i actually use my phone. i use contacts, calendar, etc i remote desktop to my main pc. about a hundred other things as well, even though 'theres an app for that' on the ipod wm is just better.
xda... roms... i think youre just having trouble coming to terms with the fact that while iphones are good (dont get me wrong) and the new iphone will be good too, its just not the right phone for you.
thats something i can accept, lots of people feel like they HAVE to prefer the iphone.
basically a guy that doesnt even have his hd2 yet is trying to convince you to go for the phone you want, not the phone that wants to be loved the most (deep psychological implications there lol) so the hd2 must be good. its definately going down in history as an epic phone lol

sense is not your only option...
also, what is your phone doing that you dont want it to? running apps while youre on the phone is a big problem for many people that can be solved v easily.
if you feel like youre fighting against the fault then that is because of the user interface.
it takes too many clicks to do a lot of things in sense 2.5 too.
shortcuts help a lot. getting small apps to toggle wifi etc and do what you do commonly make your phone muuuuch easier to use.

there are many different keyboards you can install on wm too...
different looks, different layouts, built in functions like copy and paste (by holding a key), shortcuts, numberpads, swipe, commercial ones, freeware, much more flexible. you can even put the iphone keyboard skin on your 'much better' screen of the hd2.

I think the only really compelling reason to go for an HD2 over an iPhone 4G is the 4.3" screen. The thing is enormous, and while I don't watch movies on the go (the HD2 can't really play HD movies anyway), the screen is just awesome-- every other phone screen now looks tiny to me. I prefer the industrial design on the HD2 to that of the iPhone 3G/3GS (maybe it seems novel because I've never seen a single other HD2 in the wild, whereas everyone and their dog has an iPhone), but the 4G iPhone is pretty sleek, so we'll have to see.
The HD2's capacitive screen is a big step up from old WM phones, but its accuracy is still not quite at iPhone levels, and despite the huge screen and the variety of keyboards available (after experimenting, I generally stick with the HTC one anyway), I still can't type nearly as accurately (and thus quickly) on the HD2 as on the iPhone. I think the main reason is Apple's still-best-in-class autocorrection (HTC's XT9 mode is so bad that I stick with normal entry, which has no autocorrect at all).
Snapdragon makes the HD2 faster than phones like the TP2, but it still has all the usual Windows Mobile problems (lagging, inconsistent behavior, things inexplicably stop working, needing to soft reset, etc.). The CPU is damn fast, so as a result it sometimes does fly, but it goes to waste in WM, which just delivers highly inconsistent performance. As a phone, my 2G iPhone (with a lowly 400 MHz ARM11 CPU) is much more consistent. I can answer every call that comes in on the iPhone without issue, I never have problems sending/receiving emails, etc., which is not quite true for the HD2 (which sometimes has the black screen of death, slows down tremendously, or just plain locks up, requiring a battery pull).
In sum, the HD2 is the greatest WM 6.x phone that will ever be made, but it's still a WM phone. So that means flexibility and customizability, but it also means having to fiddle with regular ROM flashes to get basic things working, a severe lack of third-party applications, and inconsistency throughout. No HD2 ROM is stable, fast, and bug-free to an iPhone-like level, or even anywhere close.
If you want something that "just works," the iPhone is your answer. I just wouldn't spend too much time with an HD2 beforehand though-- the enormous screen may hook you .

Because I have jumped onto what was available at the time thinking that same thing and suffered through a crappy phone for a year and having Sprint completely **** me around over it. It's a complete crapshoot, I know. But I'm just trying to be patient with this and not jump on the HD2 just because it's there now, when we all know the announcement of the iPhone is less than 3 weeks away unless Jobs gets his panties in a knot. Just giving myself options between the two most likely candidates.
I can sum it up for you in 3 words...
"No Flash Support"
End of game...
flexibility <> performance
decide for urself.
but u asked for opinions, so..
a friend is using the iphone OS 4.0 beta3 on his iphone 3gs, for me, it suxx, i really dont like it..
i never recommend an iphone, cause its just a way too expensive for so less things
maybe u could go for android, wich is fast and stable on a device like the desire.. much cheaper and still better hardware than an iphone. i dont think the iphone 4g will get hardware like the desire or hd2 has...
i used everything, winmo, android, iphone..
winmo is really flexible, iphone is very fast without lag, but android got both.. its flexible and fast. maybe u should try this?^^

Pfffff tired of those useless threads ....
if you want one , buy one or wait until it came out ..
But why the hell are you asking a bunch of winmo guys if it is a good choice...
What sort of answer are you looking For ?
to stick to the thread a bit more ....
Wait for 4G ! OR 5G ! or Ngage 4.3 or Nintendo 4DS phone (seems to be great
Sorry i'm not exactly friendly here ....
But .... i'm tired of that ...
To sum up the HD2:
1) One of the most powerful smartphones available.
2) The best chefs on xda cook for it
3) The best programmers develop mods for it (Co0kie's Home Tab etc)
4) Smooth operation
5) Great screen for movies and browsing
6) Overall a fantastic phone
7) You can play StarCraft on it
Yes, you could wait for the next iPhone. Or the HD3. Such is technology, that whatever you buy one day, will always be obsolete the next. Live for the moment, get the HD2, you will not regret it. Even if it doesn't perform exactly as you want in stock (I had practically no problems with stock performance thankfully) just get a custom ROM, make a few tweaks (excellent thread full of tweaks in HD2 General), and it WILL be an excellent phone.
besides talking, what do u use ur phone 4? which one can meet ur requirements as a user?..
Hey ! IT IS SO EASY !!!! BUY BOTH and THEN decide !
I would not by HD2 today. Because of windows. It's even worse since WM6.5 is becoming obsolete. HTC did great job with HD2 in masking WM. It almost seems like different OS. So I'm not entirely unhappy with it.
On the other hand I would not buy anything with smaller display today.
I would not buy any iPhone. Yes, they are cool, well thought out. Really lovely devices. But company policies suck. Also .. it is smaller then HD2.
It seems to me there is only one solution to this: Android.

Yeah, sorry - I forgot to say - Android is a no-no. Our IT dept (multinational, professional services firm so touchy about security) did extensive testing and Android doesn't meet our security requirements. Maybe when they get their **** together. We only just got the iPhone on our plan last year - partly due to cost negotiations, but also initially for security.

also, what is your phone doing that you dont want it to? running apps while youre on the phone is a big problem for many people that can be solved v easily.
if you feel like youre fighting against the fault then that is because of the user interface.
it takes too many clicks to do a lot of things in sense 2.5 too.
shortcuts help a lot. getting small apps to toggle wifi etc and do what you do commonly make your phone muuuuch easier to use.
why dont you say what you mean specifically?

I feel I made a bad choice picking up the TP2 that really only seems like an upgraded keyboard and bigger screen compared to TP1. Other than that, same ****ty internals. They made it bigger, but didn't change anything that would actually help perf. (clarification - I only upgraded as I have written proof they will let me out of contract for free if I'm unhappy for any reason because of how badly treated me on TP1) I'm sure part of the problem is the resistive screen, but tabs often don't scroll smoothly (like laggy as hell) and I end up not where I wanted to be, or have to get there in increments (click one tab, then another to get close enough to see music). That's another thing - wish winmo made someway to always get at music app quickly - can take forever to get back into it. Phone is just often slow - like last night I was trying to get back into mail and the phone just sat there on the home screen with the clock halfway between 11 and 12, obv hanging up for 15-20 secs.
But yeah, it's mostly inputs not working when I touch them, virtual keyboard being completely ****ty for quick entries, hanging, slowing down, making me wait for it. Just not as responsive as I'd like. Again, comparing its operation to my iTouch, just very different.

yes but so does wm. there are stable versions of everything on wm that the iphone does.
you can install many different browsers. many stable and fast.
there are many different keyboards you can install on wm too...
different looks, different layouts, built in functions like copy and paste (by holding a key), shortcuts, numberpads, swipe, commercial ones, freeware, much more flexible. you can even put the iphone keyboard skin on your 'much better' screen of the hd2.

Again, I lived for the moment and got the TP1 from my old tilt. Huge mistake. And Sprint knew it. And still jacked me around over it. I hate them.

Nexus S stands for sucky!!!!!

When I saw a picture of the Nexus S, I thought, what a ugly phone. Then, I saw that it's made by Samsung, nothing against Samsung but to me their phones are cheap The phone doesn't deserve the Nexus name. IMO HTC makes the best phones. I have three friends that have Galaxy S's, and their always asking me for my N1, to use my navigation, and make phone calls, because they're always losing their signal, and their GPS is screwy, plus they have ****ty battery life, so they live on their chargers. I keep telling them to root, but they want me to do it for them, I stopped rooting peoples phones who refuse to educate themselves about rooting, because they're always calling you with problems, because they don't understand. Another thing, I was thinking about buying the Evo, but my friend has it and the resolution is crap, the colors are dull, almost to the point of transparency, I think HTC focused too much on having the biggest screen, so I won't be buying that crap, I thought that all the high-end android devices after the N1 would blow us out, but have done nothing except confirm that I made the right choice with my Sexy Nexy, so we'll be together a little while longer. I thought the N2 would go in the direction of the Desire look, that's a classy phone, that has a professional look for older gents like myself, I'm very disappointed that Google gave Samsung the contract.

hmm yeah that will be it. so samsungs crappy build is no longer a concern.
the "ill never buy a samdung" brigade have scuttled back under there rocks.
Is it possible its something as simple as google wanting to continue use of a amoled screen capable phone for dev. phone purposes? I mean thats one of the main interest points ive noticed when anyone sees my N1. Everyone says "wow the screen is so crisp". Seeing how samsung took amoled away from everyone else just kind of makes sense on googles part if that be the case.
Nothing against HTC, they make great phones but i just wonder if use of amoled is more paramount than most give credit for. Look at it this way, all phone makers can more or less make the same kind of phones hardware wise. Only difference being is samsungs ability to use amoled. Just a thought , nothing more.
i read on here that HTC said the N1 would be thier first and last phone designed for a non carrier and that is why google had to go else where. I'd have prefered motorola, but samsung is an ok 2nd choice. HTC would obviously have been my first but they are out of the question. All i really care about is vanilla android with updates from google, a nice sized screen, good hardware, and a nice design.
the nexus S has all of the above minus the nice design...but it has helped me realize that the design weights a lot more in my purchasing decision than I had previously thought. I dont see myself buying a nexus s if it looks like the leaks orion processor or not

Why i think it sux owning an SGS2!

It sucks that i think my SGS2 is perfect as it is stock. No more spending hours here on XDA to see if someone finally made that rom, that makes my phone better.I remember the day´s when i had an HTC Diamond, funky little fone but kinda not what i had expected.Suddenly u could flash Windows Mobile 6.5 and the fone was like new!
Any1 else feeling the same?
got mine friday and spend this afternoon getting rid of the samsung crapware; this is my 6th android phone so i know what I use and what I want.
It surely was the easiest phone to alter; just had a few minutes to get used of odin but that was it!
Now waiting for cyanogenmod (my pref. by far) to get the flashing madness starting again
Ye i kind of miss it. Had a trinity and the Touch pro 2 both were pritty much unuasble stock after a few weeks. But the SG ii is just awsome, actually usable as a reliable phone lol
True, true. I've flashed my HTC Hero and Desire till the end with the newest of the newest roms.
I loved MIUI and Cyanogen, and anything else out of the ordinary. I just can't wait until these come to the SGSII (including a nice and easier recovery like Amonra or cwr). I just want to try the roms to see how they perform. I won't use MIUI that long, since I hate it's not available in my language.
Can't wait for the storm of custom roms this phone will have in the future

Show them flash and then troll them whilst they quote (their messiah) Steve Jobs and shrug their shoulders.
It's what I would do.
OR show them:
widgets (even though this may come in iOS - Android's are/will be far better)
numerous homescreens
various launchers
4.3" screen
Super AMOLED Plus
(the metaphorical) epic growth of Android Market
the thinness - 8.49mm - (UMAD iPhone user?)
do I need to continue!

So far no mistaken identity. Lol

You could say they look similar and they are in that:
they are rectangular (this is very rare on smartphones)
they are black - THIS IS EVEN more rare
it's slimmer = Steve Jobs is mad.
And yes the home button. But my Desire has 5 buttons. 4 are a "dull-er" silver and the middle button is a really nice circular patterned metal sliver - it's the button you see immediately over the others.
If you look at windows phones, they have the windows key which is centred with 2 other buttons around it.
GSII has a centre button that's rectangular, surrounded by two other buttons.
So yes they are similar, but they're also similar to many other phones.
Jobs clearly has a problem with the fact that the GSII bridges that gap (on looks) between "A chunky, but extremely powerfull" which only certain people get (who don't mind the looks) and the "sleek, slim look" that appeals to the common consumer.
It's exactly what Apple did many years ago, they combined power with looks and an "image" for the phone.
(I'm saying this because I speak from personal experience seeing as I had an N80, and N95) Absolute BEASTS but they were insanely chunky, but I really didn't care.)
this is my first android device. Ive recently defected from nokia after a long relationship with symbian and more recently maemo. But its gone all wrong at nokia. wp7 devices, no os support, just community support (not such a bad thing) and Tech which is 2 years out of date. Was going to hold out for a n950/n9 but thats old tech and would prob be going against the sgs3. Plus they have dumped intel and left meego going no where.....
Im happy ive jumped ship now...
This phone is very much a king of phones. I love it, only had it a couple of days and im fascinated.
Huge wins for samsung and android
the other problem with this Samsung is 'we have no idea what kind of updates they have made and compare to Htc they are not helping people to see it,they just say UPDATE and thats it,Htc always show the updates of what kind of bugs they have fixed and anything else' for shure this is my last time i buy from Samsung, hopefuly next year when my contract finishes there will be more competitions

Having Second thoughts.

So when I first got the GSII I thought it was awesome! But 2 things quickly came to fruition.
1.The lightness was great at first but now its almost as a hassle for me, its TOO light, its like I cant even grab it properly like I did with my IP4, im constantly having trouble handling it and it just feels SO delicate! As if its gonna break if I do something wrong or drop it, its too thin for me, that's why Im having trouble holding it at times.
2.Android I have used before and very much enjoyed it but I dunno what happened to me that now its just too much stuff going on for me, with the IP4, it was simple and right to the point, in a way I appreciate all the extra little things that Android bring but I just dont care too much either, surprising cause im a techie. I dunno if its cause I am used to the IP for so long but it just seems like I have to go through more steps to do things that I would only have to do 1 or 2 on IOS. I always get this feeling of cluttered and an unorganized feel on Android while on IOS it just feels simple and straight to the point and organised. I tried WP7 at launch as well and I was super impressed by its UI, smoothness, how everything was so simple and easy to get to/use, frankly I just dont care about customizing and all that, I just want a quick fast and easy experience.
Now dont get me wrong a big problem I had with Android was how it would lag, freeze and sometimes feel like its in a beta stage, I was curious how the DualCore and 1gb ram would make a difference and wow! Im very impressed here! I havent had a single lag, its so smooth and just runs any and everything with absolute ease! This is how I wanted android to be!!
Another thing is the screen, I had 480x800 phones before as well as SuperAmoled and very much enjoyed them, so I was very excited to see the SuperAmoledPlus Display, too my surprise I wasn't that impressed tbh, the blacks are incredible, the contrast honestly seems good but not what I expected, the IP4 seems on par even brighter in some places, but the biggest thing for me is the pixels, since I had 480x800 before and thought it was great, I didn't think it was gonna be a huge difference but wow it is, the retnia display is MUCH better with text. Theres definitely a difference.
All in all Im not sure what to do now, I think I have a beast of a phone in my hands and it IS good but im not satisfied in certain aspects and it seems the months I spent with IOS really took a hold of me, I find myself trying to do little gestures I did in IOS. Theres the IP5 coming but who knows how much that will be and my contract is not up till next year. I cant find a good case for my life on the GS2 while IP4 has several.
Personally I think WP7 is awesome! But the lack of apps and certain things I need is really pushing me away from it. Im not gonna lie sometimes I get annoyed with Apples restrictions and hate itunes but beyond that I very much enjoy it.
Seriously, trade it in and get an iPhone 4. And if that sounds like I'm being trolly and trying to be funny then don't take it that way. I honestly believe that you've picked the wrong phone.
As popular as this phone is, it's obviously not for everyone.

No problem! I read your response and I think I may just wait for IP5, try to get a good sell on this one. I feel dumb, I really thought I was gonna like this one...
What do you think of WP7?
I agree with the post above. The SGS2 isn't the right device for everyone. IMO it's the best device on the market currently. That being said who cares what I think, it's what you think. If you want to get an iPhone I would hold off until Sept when the iPhone 5 is released.
I only skim read the first post but from the number of times I saw "IP4" I think you definately need to jump off the Android bandwagon.
I got this phone two days ago and it's one in a long line of Android phones, if I were to switch to an iphone and do the opposite to you, i'd find myself on modmyi.com moaning about how sucky and locked down apple phones are.
Point is, if you really don't like it, take it back if/while you still can.

I only had WP7 very briefly - on a HD2 that usually ran Android. I liked it, but was put off by how little I could do with it. It felt like going back 10 years to when you were pleased if you could even use your own .mid files as ringtones!
The first point about lightness / thinness can be solved with a £2 case from ebay. Job done.
Android phones can be pretty much set up to be very similar to iOS (only better) with a little patience. In fact android can mimick any other phone, or even be completely unique... can you do that with an iphone? No.
Yes the retina display is sharper for text, and when it boils down to it, the retina is probably the only rival display that can compete with the SAMOLED+ but I personally prefer the latter for its comparatively massive size, brilliant blacks and vibrancy. Horses for courses.
Ultimately I'd agree with the others though. Sounds like you bought the wrong phone. I felt the same way with the iphone 4 to be honest, and it was only when the SGS2 appeared that I knew I had a worthy replacement on my hands.

Well if you like the ease of use of the iPhone, you should check out MIUI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130951
There's even an iPhone theme which makes it near identical in look and feel.
MIUI is really easy to use and simple to install. Just an idea.
Otherwise just get an iPhone 4 or 5.
Buying a case would definitely solve issue 1.
Like others have said, with some time and effort you could emulate the iphone look and usability.
Go with what's comfortable for you. Doesn't matter what anyone says.

I am actually torn between WP7 and Android
But I feel Icecream will be the deal breaker for android
currently am happy with my SGS2 having come from htc hero, but I also have an HTC HD7 wP7 and I love what Micorosoft has done with MANGO.
and Being a Nokia Fan I am definitely gonna for a Nokia WP7 next year
as I specifically took a 12 month contract on my SGS 2 and the SGS2 specs are good enough to last me atleast a couple of years If I do get itchy about android

I second this statement.
I've had the phone for less than a week now and had the same impression, compared to my previous N1.
I just bought a plastic case, it's still light, but it definitely feels better now.
I agree 100% with the OP this is my first android and I was learning on the go. Its very cool device but for some people who just want simple interface they should go for IOS. I do electronics for living and have done a lot of programing in past years. I spent yesterday all day flashing this thing because all the sudden it stopped Sync and Social Hub wont work. It seriously stopped by it self very strange.
I asked all the experts on this website about how to fix it, so far my thread name "social hub Issues" has 100 views and 0 answers. What does that mean? either no one has answer or they think im retard.
