Anyone noticing this problem with their slide? - myTouch 3G Slide General

So my g/f just got her slide today, and as we were playing with it throughout the day, we noticed that after a while, the phone would no longer recognize that it had a SD card installed... we'd have to pop the back off, pop out the SD card, then put it back again for the phone to recognize it again. However, after a while, the phone would once again say that the SD card is not connected...
Is this a problem with this specific phone, or is anyone else also experiencing this problem as well?

By any chance was it wiping your phone everytime it did that?

I had that problem with the mytouch 1.2 but not with this yet. I've heard using a class 4 or 6 sd card fixes it but I never tried it.

I havent had that problem with my g1 or myslide. You need to call tmo and see whats up.

Nah the phone and all the info in the card seems fine, its just that the phone can't seem to find the card once in a while until you take out then put back the SD card :/

take the phone back and swap it for another one at the store. You could also try getting another SD card. You most likely just have a bad SD card. It happens. I would swap the phone first cause its free (since you already paid for it) and would without a doubt tell you exactly what is wrong.

Sounds like a defect I had my slide since may and this never happened take it back and replace it immediately

Ok replaced the phone this afternoon.. problem seems to be solved thanks for the replies all!

MicroSD card hanging phone

I've just took delivery of my Kingston 1GB MicroSD card and all is not going well.
Using TomTom on it causes the entire phone to hang. This can happen is various places, there seems to be no real pattern to it. It can hang when running the initial config screens or if you manage to get passed them it will always hang when trying to enter a street/city name. Normally I can get a few characters in to typing the name and then it will freeze. Only a soft reset will bring it back.
I've tried formatting the card on the PC as FAT and FAT32 but neither seem to improve things.
Anyone else had issues with reading from MicroSD cards hanging their phone - up until installing the card the phones been rock solid?
BTW: It's a SPV M3100. Nothing else is installed - it's just been hard reset
I was having numerous problems with the phone freezing. The famous sleep of death whereby if was left charging overnight it would freeze up only a soft reset will sort it out.
I narrowed it down to the micro sd card or the SPV3100 handling of it. I have a 1gb Sandisk Ultra II. I discovered that if I had a program loaded onto the sd card & the phone had to access it for whatever reason, in my case Fizz Traveller & an RSS reader the phone would just freeze up.
Another problem is everytime I take the sd card out & put it back in, the phone doesn't see it until a soft reset.
Obviously this could be just the phone not compatible with the sd card but I don't have a different brand to try out. But I tend to think its a bug with the phone itself.
hmm doesn't sound too clever.
Assuming it is a bug with the phone itself I wonder if trying one of the other roms might be a course of action? Trouble is there's no way back yet until Orange release a update. Could really do with my GPS working though :-(

I think that this is normal for the Hermes. That's the way it works on my Vario II.
I believe the problem with TomTom hanging is due to the software being a little slow at reading the names database from the card. This happens to me on occasion, but if you wait a little while it comes back. I'm using a SanDisk 2Gb card and most other software works fine. It's entirely possible that these problems will be fixed with a future firmware update, as I think it's just a matter of teething problems on a new system. In my case, 2Gb cards weren't even widely available when the Hermes was designed.

I've got TTN5 working on my SPV no problems at all. Took less than 10mins to transfer the files from my old sd card to the new one & load the Nav5.21 program onto the phone. Even after numerous hard resets & 3 different phones.

I just started getting this error...

When I press gallery it says my SD card is unmounted. I powered off, removed card, cleaned card and phone, then I restarted it and it worked but now I'm getting it again. Pretty annoying. Also, is this the type of issue covered by the warranty?
I ran a search on Google and nexus one general forum before posting, thanks in advance for any help...
oh wow....i just unmounted the card, then i powered down. when i powered on it said the card was damaged and i may need to reformat it.
So i put it in my laptop and it says it needs to be formatted.
Have i lost all of the stuff on my card and, if so, what could have caused this? its kind of devastating for me.
The ONLY thing i did today that was out of the ordinary was install zumodrive on the phone.
its a class 6, A Data 8 gig and ive had it for a matter of 6 months, im guessing it was the phone or an app that caused it?
Unless you were constantly removing the card while a device was in the middle of writing to it, I dont think the phone it self would have caused much damage... I'm thinking it was more likely a defective card...

bummer, so i probably should just trash it as opposed to formatting it and using it again?
i have had a card fail on me, and was able to get it back and it worked fine. seemed to be just a tad bit slower the second time around, but nonetheless it worked.
it was weird thought, windows wouldnt detect it, and my phone wouldnt either. i had to go into drive management and it was seen there. once i got that squared away and go tit formatted all worked well.
as far as saving your files, im not sure... i try to backup my sdcard about once a week (simply overwrite any files that havent changed). you may be able to use a disk recovery utility, such as the ones that are used to retrieve files from dead HDD's.
i had this problem on stock
i ended up putting my sd card in the pc and backing everything up (everything was fine even after the phone showed it was corrupted)
reformatted my sdcard
tested and still got the error
so i pulled the sdcard back out, started the phone up without any sdcard inserted. after putting card back in and booting up never had the problem again
since rooting, i've never run into this problem either

Voice command terminates...

I have tried looking on the forums for these problems, and the only thing that comes up is an issue from like 3 years ago with a different phone.
I think this issue is different than the early post because I don't really use a blue tooth headset with my phone. I just plug it into my car audio, and the voice/music goes through the car speakers. With that said, Every time I boot up my phone, a prompt comes up saying that voicecommand needs to end because I am low on memory. I am running the stock ROM and haven't flashed anything yet (really nervous about it) but one thing I have done is add a file to the StarUp folder in the windows directory. The program is a colored battery gage to let me know where the battery life is at. However, I can't uninstall it for some reason, probably because the file is in use. But when I go to the task manager, the program isn't even listed!!!
Also, earlier today, the touch screen when the phone dialer was completely not working. The only way I could end calls was to push the hang-up button at the bottom of the phone. I couldn't mute the call, nor put it on speaker phone. I was thinking that these two issues were related. I am really getting sick of this phone and have already put my SIM card back into my iphone.
Lastly, on my iphone, blackberry, and G1 I had numbers listed in the 123.456.7890 format and could text just fine. But on the HD2, when i try to text those numbers (its all jumbled, really, some i entered in as (123) 456-7890, and others the first), the text wont send because it returns an "Invalid Number" or something.
Any feedback I thank in advance and please don't hate me if these problems have already been addressed in early posts.
ive got the same message on bootup as you have. i read somewhere it may have something to do with having low memory on the sim card or having an old sim card. not sure about the number problem but i would be interested to know exactly whats causing the low memory message also. ive had stock, energy, and cell ROMs and all had this message. so i think it has something to do with the sim card and not the ROMs or apps installed. by the way this Cell rom is the shiitt! my favorite by far, just FYI for anyone looking for a baller rom.

I suspect that at least 2, if not all 3, of your issues could be cleared up by getting tmo to get you a newer sim card. They should do it for free.
OH thats easy enough! I have like 2 of them lying around from various phones I have had. I will try that out later today Tho it has been a while since i had contacts on my sim card. I have used google sync for years now, and have been rather pleased, except for some reason, using google sync puts my contacts onto the HD2 as Last Name, First Name automatically. And when I try switching them around, as soon as it gets synced again, it goes back the same way. But otherwise, I like it!

Well...I don't know if the problem(s) will be solved just by using a different sim card, I was suggesting you get a new one from Tmo...there's a newer revision of SIM cards available that might alleviate some of your issues, it's at least worth starting there. Just walk into any tmo store, tell them that you called tech support and were told to come in and get a new sim. (I'm assuming that when you got the HD2, you just kept using the same sim you had had before)

I actually bought my HD2 from someone that had already bought theirs and didn't like it. She had it for 2 weeks then sold it to me for cheap. She never used the SIM card that came with the phone, so I would imagine that that sim card is a new one. And yes, I used the same sim card I have had for the past 4 years or so. The last time I got a new sim card, it cost me 20 bucks. I don't think the T-mobile store just gives them out.

So...the sim in the HD2 that's giving you issues is the one that the girl got when she bought the phone, or the one you've been using for 4 years? If it's the latter, then yes, you need a new one. Tmo will charge you $20 if you just say you'd like to have a new one, but I've gotten 2 newer ones (one for me, one for daughter) just by walking in and telling the store that customer service instructed me to come in and get one to troubleshoot an issue with my phone...no charge.

The only sim card I have used on the HD2 is the one I have had for 4 years. The sim card that came with the HD2 hasn't ever been used. I think the girl used her own sim card before that. But she switched to AT&T anyway to get an iPhone, so she is probably enjoying life.
How often should I get a new sim card?

It's not something you need to do very often, it's just that a better version was released a while ago (like a year or two ago), and it's known to work better especially in smartphones.
And...if you have in your possession the unused card that came with the HD2, that would work fine, and Tmo can't even try to charge you for a new one...just tell them you need to have the newer one flashed to your number, and that should do it.
UPDATE: I don't think its a SIM card issue. My sim card isn't even in the device and every time I reboot it the same error comes up. WORST PHONE EVER (and I really liked my TMO MDA. Aside from a few strange glitches, it never had a problem!)

Can you give a link to that batt meter you installed and can't uninstall? I'm going to try it to see if 1) I get any odd behavior, and 2) I can find a way for you to uninstall it.
Sorry, I also forgot to mention that I was able to successfully shut the program down and move it out of the windows startup folder. Turns out, all I had to do was tap the file, and it turned off. Then I powered the phone off and turned it back on. I went back into the folder, cut the program out of the startup folder and moved it somewhere else. Then I was able to delete it. Even after doing this, the voicecmd.exe error prompt comes up. But the battery gage is pretty cool still...
These problems really started occurring after I had put music onto the memory card. And when I check the memory in the settings tab, I still have plenty of free memory. I even toggled between turning off HTC sense and selecting the different menus and the voicecmd.exe prompt comes up. So it could be because of the large files I have put onto my memory card, which just goes to show that either the card is faulty, or the card driver/reader is faulty?

Quite possibly, yes...the SD card that was shipped with these phones is the suspect in a large number of issues people have experienced. Have you tried running with a different card, or no card at all? Some people who found that removing the card cleared up their issues also found that copying all your stuff off the card, then reformatting it and putting it back in the phone works too.
I just copied the stuff off the card, formated it, and reinstalled the music and such. Pretty much the same thing happened. I even did a hard reset on the phone. I guess its the card.

Did you use the phone for a while with no card at all in it? I just want to make sure we've clearly eliminated all possibilities
I had the voice command problem- if you go to settings->all settings->personal->buttons and change the default for send key from voice command to ok/close, it stops coming up.
I used the phone for a while without putting music onto the memory card. But I have always had the stock memory card in it. This really started happening as soon as I loaded music onto it. I had a few files on it like the bsb tweaks and other mods. But nothing big. What is interesting is that I found a 8 gig micro sdhc lying around and put that in. It has a bunch of pictures and files from school when I had my bb last summer. When I try opening some of the pictures, a new prompt comes up saying "A problem has occurred with HTCPhotoPicker.exe..." and the picture viewer terminates. What the eff is wrong with my phone???
So i think its most definitely something to do with the memory card. When I take it out, it doesn't have a problem. When I put it back in, thats when it acts up. And I even tried deleting all my music from the card then putting it back on, and it still occurs. I emailed HTC about it. Hopefully, I actually get a response.

Does your shift sometimes say SD card is read only?

This is the second time and a different card that this has happened with me. I've tried ruu and that doesn't help. I thought maybe there was a file on it that the phone didn't like so I backed up the card and let the phone format it. Problem went away for awhile. I got a faster card and now its doing it again. I had a similar but more destructive times of this happening with the evo. It would corrupt the card and I lost everything on it. What I ended up doing was put a piece of paper the size of the card on top of the card. This was to make the battery hold down the card more firmly. I suspected the crappy mechanism htc used on both phones is at fault. The card would wiggle around when it was seated in the slot and the lock bar down. I don't know if this is the case again with the shift but I did it again with this card. Hopefully that does the trick. I would hate to take the phone back.

no problems here (yet), but I hope this doesn't happen.
This has happened to me on all my android phones. My hero, optimus s, epic and now the shift. Usually just messing with it will fix the issue no problem. Pull the card reboot etc. Worse come to worse back your card up and reformat. That fixed it for me before.

Have any theories on why this happens?
I haven't had this problem but my Moment would occasionally tell me the SD card was damaged when I knew it wasn't. Figured out that just plugging it into the PC and having Windows scan the drive for errors would fix the problem. Maybe it might work for this too...?
I'm guessing that the SD card doesn't sit in the card slot and recessed area very well. Sometimes, over time, the card might be jostled by handling of the phone like if it gets bumped. The contacts lose a solid connection with the other half of the contacts inside the phone and an error happens. In some cases with some phones, I speculate when a card shift happens during a write cycle to it, the file allocation table doesn't get updated correctly, thus temporarily corrupting the card. Seems as if a format fixes it sometimes. That's my guess. When I put a piece of thick paper, less than a millimeter in thickness, on top of the card, and the paper is the same shape of the card, and the weight of the battery on it helps keep the card from having the tendency to move around in the card socket. The errors don't seem to happen again for me.
Why does this crap happen to me? The spring loaded card sockets on phones, I've never had this problem. They seem to hold the card in place very well. It's probably a cost issue because a plastic bar to hold the card down is cheaper than the metal spring loaded locking card mechanism.
It happened again. It seemed to happen when I tried to open a file. It seems like it only happened when I messed with the file. I deleted it and so far so good. It seems weird that a file would make the card go into read only mode.
I had it happen once. It was when I was disconnecting from the computer.
I always eject from computer, then select charge only before disconnecting. I read that on an EVO forum
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
I managed to have this happen on my Hero with an 8GB class 2 card. I returned it and upgraded to a class 6. Also I made sure to always properly eject the USB in Windows after that. Not a problem since. Knock on wood.

it happened rarely on my Moment but not on the Evo Shift . usually a reboot cleared this problem for my phone

Yup, this works great
It's happened to me before, but on my Hero. Haven't had it happen on my Evo Shift yet.
Only thing that's happened is one time I had my phone set as a disk drive when connected to my PC. A friend of mine called me and it couldn't read the ringtone from the SD card, and I got an error regarding DRM not being installed. Once I disconnected the phone from the PC, everything worked just fine.

Focus battery issue

Sorry if this has been addressed, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
Got my Focus just under two weeks ago. Added an SD card, no issues before nor after the SD "fix."Starting yesterday my phone started randomly turning off. NOT resetting, as no data was lost, and it turned right back on.
I'm fairly certain its due to minor jarring, and is therefore a battery connection issue. I'm going to go ask for a new battery at the ATT store and try that before asking for a whole new phone.
I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this. Also, if I got a new Focus, can it reformat my SD card, or is it locked to the specific phone?
Thanks guys.
its your sd card.... even though there is no data lost the turning off and back on is it rebooting ... you need to try a card thats been working.... there is a nice list on here or just buy a samsung one..
you can try a format and try the card again but theres a good chance it will happen again...btw what sd is it?
16 GB Sandisk, class 4. It doesn't turn back on on its own, though. I manually turn it back on. Kind of like if I did a battery pull, it would shut off and I'd have to manually turn it on.
Pull the card, leave it out and format... If the condition continues then its the phone, but I'm betting it will work fine.. Here's to hoping. It is strange but certain sd cards give this phone fits... the format is power off. Press n hold vol down, camera, and then power. Keep all pressed till you see the format screen pop up... Hope this helps...
Well, I put in one of those Samsung cards in from that ebay seller, and next day got a similar turn off, so I'm gonna say it's the phone.
If I switch it out in-store, can another Focus reformat the card, or am I gonna have to borrow one of their Nokias?
Your Focus randomly shuts down or reboot?
Captivate had random shutdown issue, wish it's not on Focus.

Shuts down, have to manually turn on. No loss of data.
And I've reproduced it by setting it down on a hard surface multiple times, so bumps seem to be jarring something.
when you get your new phone just plug in the sd card and do the format.... it will set the card up in that phone.

LOL I found this out after I was told ATT doesn't even sell Symbian phones. Good to know.
So did exchanging the phone solve your problem? I have 16gb SD card (sandisk class 2) it was working fine for the first two month, but last month the phone start to randomly reset about once a day. I took out the sdcard and battery reseated them both (not resetting data) and it seems to work fine for about 2 weeks (may be one random reboot once) but last few days the phone would reboot everytime I set it down on hard surface. It doesn't do it all the time but do it enough to be annoying.
I really don't want to exchange the phone unless I have to.

If by reboot you mean it just turns off, then that's what I was experiencing. I changed SD cards and it came back the next day.
I just switched phones today and haven't seen it yet, but I'll get back to ya in a week. Switching phones wasnt too big of a hassle for me, though, so you might just try that now while you're in your 30 days.
If it keeps happening, I don't know what phone I'll switch to. Shouldn't have jumped on that Zune 12 mo pass just yet.
