All Contact Data Lost - HD2 General

For the 3rd time my phone has lost all my contacts...
This has happened with 2 differnt ROMS.
Does anyone have any ideas?
John

You could save your contacts to your sim card.

just backup with google synce or myphone?

Thanks guys, I have my phone set up with an Exchange Server, but I have to set the phone back to factory settings eachtime becuase the Activesync software fails to work once the contacts have been lost.
I'm really looking for a solution or reason why this is happening to me so I can avoid it.

All of your contacts should be pulling from your exchange server... Are you trying to sync by connecting it to your desktop? Are the contacts disappearing during a sync?

wow! I annotated even joking..... i just lost all my contacts again!
when I attempt to run ActiveSync itopens briefly and shuts down.
i have also lost my imap4 email too....
WFT, could I really be the only one having this issue?
John

SO are you syncing with it attached to your computer or doing it with the data connection wireless? An exchange sync doesn't work if you are connected to your PC.
Also curious if your data connection is poor or if you have tried connecting to a wireless network before syncing?
Do you only lose your contacts when you are trying to run active sync and it crashes?

I never sync directly with the PC - gsm/wifi connection only.
I have had Windows CE devices since the begining of time... Other than the odd software bugs, etc I have never come across anything like this... Four times I have lost 100% of my contacts, email accounts cleared from my phone etc.
Only a full factory reset will allow me to connect with ActiveSync again. Yesterday it happened waiting to see doctor - good thing I had a long wait.
I am not "running" ActiveSync. I have it set for Push, so it syncs all the time.

Maybe try turning off push at first and using Active Sync to pull in everything in the beginning?
I have hard reset my HD2 several times and each time I set up my exchange I manually ran active sync. it takes like 4 times running it to bring all 1500 of my contacts and all of my work related emails into my phone, but it's never crashed on me yet during the sync...

I could do that, but if I turn push off I won't get my email updates, contacts won't get updated/backed up.... :/

Just initially leave push off... Not forever. Once all of your contacts are in there, after doing a manual active sync several times possibly, turn push back on.
I use push mail every day during the week, but when I first setup my phone I run a manual active sync to get all of my contacts and emails on my phone because if I just rely on push to do it initially, it won't import everything. I think I just have way too much to sync or something?

oh, the loosinh of data happens several days after the initial sync. maybe 3 to 6 days later. i think 6 days is the longest It's gone without loosing all the datda.

activesync turning itself on!!

hi
i have this annoying problem on my JJ
the activesync keeps turning itself on in the ppc...
i have 4.1 AS on the computer and i sync via usb... never made any connection settings on the pocketpc and dont have any server options aswell ... but every 4-5 mins if i go back to RUNNING PROGRAMS i can see activesync running... i have just formatted my JJ for last 2 days hoping i would get rid of this problem as i thought some 3rd party software was calling AS... but after hard reset (and no 3rd party software) im still having this problem
can any one advise? im on vacation and cant keep the damn charger in my pocket all the time nor is a socket available at all times to charge it ... this is for those who wonder why im bothered so much by AS running in background...coz it keeps the processor busy and that uses extra battery!!!
thanks
The active sync turns itself on because by default it is set to sync with an exchange server every so often. To get rid of this on your JJ go to the active sync program. From the menu create an imaginary server by any name say "ABC". Now go to menu again and select "Schedule". Finally under "Sync During" Peak times / Off-Peak times select "Manually" from both the drop down lists. You will never see the active sync progam start up by itself again.

O2 Exec and Activesync 4

Just about to open Windows (on the top floor) and throw this thing through it!
Been waiting for months to upgrade to exec from xda2s, and 18hours after opening the box i'm ready to junk it. Cannot get it to sync at all. Read all the forums, zone alarm off, norton off, tried running as4.1, and still i'm getting dizzy watching this little green wheel going round and round and round and round and round..... 'connecting'
Does anybody have a work around or managed to get it to work. Without this facility the units useless to me, apart from maybe a quick £300 quick profit on ebay.
Help please.
I had a simlar problem, until I reluctantly ditched all my other Active sync partnerships (like my xda2 PPc partnership). then created a new partnership and it worked fine.
Good luck
Hi, Stupid question, but where do the older profiles live on my pc? I've looked in the activesync folder but no clues.
Open Avtivesync, go to file, click on mobile device, check and see what devices you have listed. then go to Delete mobile device.
This realy was a quick fix for me , you should be able to have multiple patnerships, perhaps some one else could suggest a better solution.
Thanks for your advice, but it looks as though I had deleted all previous profiles when I did a clean install of as4.1, and still getting dizzy!
Thought about calling O2, but quickly realised I would have better luck just ringing a random number out of the phone book.
I've tried every combination in the connection settings box, still no joy.
Need a solution soon before I reach for the Scotch and Razor Blades.
I've completely given up with this thing. Managed to get it back in the box (which was a minor challenge compared to getting Activesync to work), somebody please save me from ebay.
Do you have you Exec running in Corporate mode? I found that in this mode it won't sync; you just get "Connecting"...and nothing.
I switch to basic or personal and it syncs with no problem. Myabe this will help.
If the machine you are trying to sync with is connecting to an Exchange Server then you will have difficulties.
Try syncing the calendar, contacts and tasks direct with the exchange server and do the rest (notes etc) with the laptop.
Activesync 4 is so rubbish I have resorted to wirelessly syncing direct to my exchange server.
For a while I was cursing the Exec as I had just got my 2s just how I wanted it when I up(?)graded but I remembered that half the fun of these things is solving the problems, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time!
The main thing that you need to remember with ActiveSync 4.x is that you must install this before connecting your EXEC.
If you don't the microsoft driver gets installed instead (and in my case) no amount of deleting/reinstalling was able to recover the situation.
Whilst I was in the middle of that crisis I did some basic PD to try and rectify. Including
a) Installing AS 4.1 build 4807 on another system (preferably clean installed say XP SP2)
b) trying another cable
c) Doing a hard reset of your device and then repeating above steps
d) (obviously!) removing all previous versions of ActiveSync (also afterwards using regedit to remove any final traces and erasing C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync) and then re-installing
I have tried to include some Device Manager pictures of a working system for reference purposes
Throught trial, and very much swearing at the walls, I've discovered the following:
1. If I have the XDA Exec switched on and connect the USB cable, then I can guarantee a 95% failure to connect.
2. If I turn off the Exec, by the power-switch on side, then connect the USB cable and just leave ActiveSync to power everything up, then I have a 95% success connection rate.
On very odd occasions, I've had to disconnect the Exec, turn it off, then plug the USB in again. And once I restarted the workstation first - probably didn't have to, but was going for a coffee anyway.
AGHHH
I had a failure with Active Sync and established that it still worked with my 2 C500's so I phoned orange.
Eventually made my way to level 3 (highest) tech support to be told that its microsofts problem and that they have withdrawn Active Sync 4 until they can fix it.
I can connect to my M5000, move files via explore but as for the necessity of syncing itand my contacts..............forget it

Interaction with Outlook
My sync problems went away when I configured Zonealarm to allow it to connect.
I also had to install Outlook, which I don't like as I use Thunderbird for Email. Sync would still not work untill I allowed Outlook to be the default email client. However, I have not defined any accounts on Outlook and Thunderbird does not seem to mind.

Click to collapse
I got a whole series of increasingly depressed emails from my TBird install after I stuck Outlook on my lappie... In the end I had to take it out for the evening, give it some new extensions and what-not before it started talking to me again...

Universal Activsync issues

Hello, I have a problem with my Universal.
I synchronise with my corporate exchange server without a problem.
I have it set up to synchronise every 15 minutes during the day. It does this without a problem, until I use the telephone at the same time it tries to sync.
If I am on the phone talking, and the device tries its normal every 15 minute sync then the sync fails (as it should do because you cant talk and use gprs at the same time) however it then fails to sync again unless I reboot the device.
If I dont reboot then its normal every 15 minute sync fails. You can see it is trying to sync, and the GPRS is active but then comes back with a server problem error.
This is a real pain in the backside, as I am missing email.
Once I reboot then I can sync like normal.
Can someone please help me?
Thanks

85002003 error on sync

I keep getting this error on when I try to sync my device - it syncs the local data, but not the data to the server. The server sync is still working through direct push though, just not when I'm connected via usb. Thing is, this error has been on and off since I first set up my device, although this time it has stayed and not gone away. I'm using AS 4.1. I tried upgrading to 4.2, and that worked well for a few days, but then it stopped syncing all together. So I downgraded back to 4.1, set up a new sync profile in AS, and still the problem is there. On my device it says:
Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.
On my computer it says: The server could not be reached. This may be caused by temporary network conditions. Support Code: 85002003.
This has happened on and off since my ppc had nothing on it. Still though, the last few programs I installed are: One Note Mobile, SuDoKuWizard, Ilium NewsBreak, Spb Weather, Resco today Plugin.
Anyone have any idea what's going on or how to fix it?
I have the same problem, just started failing on Exchange sync.
It seems like the the Wizard is trying to connect via GPRS to sync mail even though it is docked, so this fails. The rest of the sync seems to work.
I have not found a fix yet, except the obvious hard reset.
I am now also getting an error when I try to run the MMS configuration on the Wizard, it is complaining that MEETING.EXE is missing, dunno why, this also happens when I select meeting from the menu.

ActiveSync Attachments

Can someone please help me out. I'm using rDosti V11. Fantastic ROM, love it. However, one thing I can't work around is that whenever I'm syncing all my email with Outlook, it will suddenly stop somewhere whilst syncing the attachments. Connected through USB. Given, I'm syncing almost 150 email in full HTML with attachments (some of them) to SD Card, I can't understand why this is happening. And it syncs slow also. I re-installed ActiveSync, but that didn't help. Didn't have this issue on Tomal's ROM or the Original i-mate ROM. That's all I've tested.
No problems when syncing to my JAM (Magician) running WM2003 SE. The worst thing is, I have to restart my mobile to resync, coz it still thinks it's connected to PC. Even when I tap disconnect from the tray, it just doesn't know what to do. So I soft reset, re-sync and sometimes it tells me, "there's been a change in the database, do you want to resync all your items." Then I've got to tap YES to continue, and back at square one. Sucks. I don't want my Uni to be useless.
Please advise.
