tmobile htc gero g2 touch custom firmware question - Hero, G2 Touch General

hi im in europe so 2.1 firmware is not available so can i use 2.1 custom firmware if so will all features work and can i revert it back to stock so when the official 2.1 comes out so i could revert to the official 2.1?

Yes if you have a GSM Hero any of the ROMs in the Development section will be fine to use. ... Use BTDAG's guide linked in my signature for instructions. .....And yes, if you feel the need to return back to stock you can do so by running one of the RUU .exe files.

Downgrading from 2.1 to 1.56

After much research on the site, I wasn't able to locate anything current on if a 2.1 can be downgraded back to the 1.56 version?
I am currently running the latest v1.56 fresh mod, and it runs great and have no problems with it. I am debating on upgrading to the newest Cyanogen mod, but I do NOT want to be stuck w/ 2.1 if it doesn't work properly. I had to have Sprint send me a new phone after I upgraded last time because the 2.1 just totally screwed with my in-car bluetooth device. Right now, bluetooth is very stable and such, but now just wanting to try the update.
If I wanted to downgrade, how exactly would I do that? I'm kinda gunshy on doing this since it all seems to be working fine right now.
Any help is appreciated!
Just root your 1.56 device as it is, using an old root method for 1.5 versions. Do NOT apply the 2.1 RUU or use the root steps for 2.1.
When you're rooted on 1.56 and have a custom recovery, you can apply any ROM you want, including the newer 2.1 ROMs.....all without fully upgrading your whole phone to the stock 2.1 release.
This is what I've done. Technically my phone is still on 1.5 root, because I never applied the official 2.1 RUU. But with the custom recovery image (you'll see how to get that in the rooting guide), I am running a 2.2 ROM. I could easily uninstall/delete this ROM and still return to the 1.5 stock state.
This will let you try CM6 or any other 2.1 or 2.2 ROMs without crossing that "can't go back" state. PM me for more help if you'd like.

When official gingerbread releases, will I be able to upgrade firmware ota or through kies?
Odin. Search or read some guides.
you need to flash a stock rom through odin. you can find the info about how to flash on the stick forum, and the rom, you can find it in development section, if im not mistaken, posted by teamwhiskey
Flash to stock using Odin.
Use this link, it includes a how to video and the proper download files.
Yes, flash stock 2.1 version first using ODIN....

My hero came from Africa, unfortunately i'm trying to install custom roms and RUU official 2.1.. here's my problem:
1. OTA software update is not available on my phone thru Settings>>About>>No OTA
2. I've tried all ROM Managers from old to new versions, but no avail to install.. "Rom manager cannot be installed on the phone"
3. My firmware version is 1.5
Please help.. anyone with official RUU 2.1 of africa here?
If you want to install custom ROMs, http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Hero_(GSM):_Full_Update_Guide follow this guide to root and install a custom recovery on your phone, after you do this i suggest you to use jordfazs CWM 5 recovery and flash that and then you can flash anything you want

Going from rom to stock

Hey I would just like to know if I am supposed to follow the exact same procedure shown by "OFFICIAL STOCK Firmware-update" thread if I were to go from a custom rom (renovate) to an official stock firmware installed through odin, or what I was thinking would I go to my original stock backup and then update? Thanks
Thanks

Need Original Flash File for my Mobile

Where did you get the ROMs? AT&T never released a full Odin stock ROM after 4.1..2. All updates to newer ROMs were released as OTA updates.
Have a look in the General threads for posts about the stock ROM such as this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642

There is only one stock ROM that was released for your phone and that was 4.1.2 which cannot be flashed to the phone. You will have to use one of the ROMs from the general thread.
