Toggling 3G on and off - HD Mini General

Hi,
Is there a software or configuration tool that allows this?
3G uses more battery, but sometimes I need it for Internet access.

maybe "G-Profile" from geye

Any software that's free? Just a simple program will do.

maybe this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844

Thank you.

The WMLongLife works great with the HTC HD Mini.

if you check on the spec for HD Mini
Stand-by Up to 340 h (2G) / Up to 500 h (3G)
Talk time Up to 6 h 40 min (2G) / Up to 7 h 15 min (3G)
it seems that running on 3G has a longer life. If so, there is no need to switch to 2G.

This spec means for only spec but not for when you're using. My one just has 1 day life so need to know which apps can do the turn off the 3G.
And 3G always drain battery more than 2G or EDGE, if Im right.

Hi,
You don't need to install any software, just go to Comm Manager (Settings -> Wireless controls), click the Phone link ("Change phone settings"), the last option should be "Band" - if you change Network Type to GSM, the phone will use only GPRS or EDGE, no more 3G

At the top were you see signal strength I nebver seem to have 3G enabled and internet seems to be slugish I sometimes have the Letters G,H,U I don't know what these mean is there a way I can have 3G all the time?
Thanks. Stock Rom!

I don't think it does its so slow. I want to know how to enable 3G permanently.
were you getting faster 3g on other phones? and i think there is a cab but u may have to search for that
As far as I know (In my area) H is for HSDPA, which is an enhanced form of 3G. So it seems that you are getting 3G data... While G stands for GPRS, which is 2G.
No idea what the U would stand for though.
Also, if you have 3G enabled to auto-connect (I presume it is, if it's switching between the connections,) then your phone should just pick up a 3G signal whenever it can find it. If 3G is patchy in your area, you won't be able to get it all the time.

Right I see when I'm on HSDPA it is still very sluggish until I seem to hit 3G and its like wi-fi, so my 3G is already connected just needs a place with good signal when I'm on way to college on the bus I seem so find a good area with 3G. Thanks for your help.
H = 3G
G = 1G (G is much much slower than E=Edge=2G)
If you want to have 3G only enabled go to Settings>Wireless Controlls>Phone>Band>WCDMA (Note that if you're in an area with no 3g, you will have zero signal and the phone will not switch to edge or gprs).
In the right order:
G=1G: 'Global System for Mobile communication', or GSM, basic mobile network.. can be used only for SMS and Phone calls
E=2G: EDGE (or 'Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution'), basicly GSM and GPRS (data transfer) combines..it allowes for speeds over the mobile network up to 9 600 bit/s
U=3G: 'Universal Mobile Telecommunications System', or 'UMTS' up to 2 Mbit/s data transfer on stationary devices and up to 384 kbit/s on mobile devices. About 40 times faster than GSM. This enables you to transfer data, such as images and be able to transfer data during a phonecall.. like sending a MMS or using Video Calls.
H=3G: 'High Speed Downlink Packet Access', or HSDPA, it allows for speeds up to 14,4 Mb/s though it is normally (at least in scandinavia) offered commercially in lower speeds, up to 7,2 Mb/s
Note: Because the most operators use high frequency to transmit '3G' signals, wich can cause your signal to be lower if you're inside (house or whatever, not outside), some operators though, transmit on a lower frequency, though then it's called CMDA, wich is also a form of '3G'
Had the same problem with a Telstra HD2 on Optus. Here's what you need to do. Settings -> Wireless controls -> phone -> Band -> Select auto for both. That should do it.

[Q] Internet with H, 3G, and E

I have
latest radio of 2.14.50.04 and WM - ChuckyDroid
SkinoEVO rom for android.
When it shows 3G I dont get network at all. It only works when it shows H or sometimes when it show E.
I dont know whats the difference. 3G should work right coz i am subscribed to it. I might sound dumb but I just dont get it?
while playing youtube H would change to 3G and then youtube will stop throwing error..no network connection.
Any suggestions please. and i dont know if this would help. I am located in Houston Texas -USA
it could be that have a short outage when the mode changes ...
i never see E ... only H , or G , very rarely 3G ... and in my experience , transition is smooth , even to/from wifi

Correction..
H is HSPDA which is faster than 3G and it's not hedge => More info
3G is 3rd Generation Network which is faster than Edge => More info
E is Edge also known as Enhanced GPRS => More info
G is GPRS => More info
There are more... but those are generally the most known..
Correct me if i'm wrong.
I get
G
2G
3G -- rarely
H

A local friend of mine has this problem also.
No data connectivity when 3G is shown, only on EDGE or H. This is with a PPP build.
I switch him to an RMNET build, and his data works beautifully. But no auto backlight, g-sensor, or any of the other stuff that works in the evo kernel but not the nexus.
Here is the weird part - the software on our phones is IDENTICAL. Same Radio, same WM ROM, same android build, I even copied my android data stores to his phone, and it still does it.
Any clue, other than defective phone?
Mine does the same. Randomly drops the data connection and only way to get it back on is to go into settings/networks and disable and reenable the Mobile network connection. Starting to look at other builds as when you call someone it randomly crashes the phone app and you cant make any calls, only solution is to reboot...oh and the flash flashes before the camera actually takes a photo lol
H = HSPDA = 3.75G DATA -> Usually 7.2mbps (This is fastest normal data connection, sometimes along with voice)
3G = 3G UMTS DATA (old) -> Usually 384kbps (You will very rarely get this)
E = Edge = 2G DATA -> Usually 230.8kbps (You will get this when 3g signal is low)
G = GPRS (old) Usually 80kbps (You will get this when you are talking on 2g network)
Data rates are typical for HD2
You will sometimes get simultaneous 3G voice and data and sometimes not, depending on operator and location. (If your current location can't support simultaneous voice and data, you will see G icon when you are talking on the phone or have just hang up) You won't get simultaneous voice and data on 2G network. When on H, you "may" get HSUPA (high speed upload) but it won't have notification.
I think its the hardware rather than ROMs
I think its the phone not the software. RMNET and PPP thing is correct. I did tried one build with RMNET and dataconnection was fast but had lot of drops. So i took on PPP.
I tried almost all ROMS, Darkstone, Nexus, Hyperdriod, Dexters, MdeeJay's and dont remember others.. All of them gave same issue..when it shows 3G its always "No network".
So, i guess i have to deal with it.
But it would be good to find out how many different Tmobile HD2 models are in USA (hardware perspective). I heard the earlier one's have different antenna which received radio(AM/FM) compare to newer models. And even some change of LCD / OLED..something which i couldnt understand at all.
Well, Thanks guys for sharing your thoughts.

Your response, while informative, has no bearing on this thread.
We are not asking what each letter stands for, as so many keep so helpfully responding to inform of us.
We need to know why, when connected to a 3G network, we get NO data connectivity, but do get it when connected to EDGE or HSPDA.
Also, your line about rarely getting UMTS is wrong, in the vast majority of the continental US, it is still the predominant wireless signal.

nordic 2.1 FW Data icon

Anyone noticed the data icon is an H instead of a 3 while using the nordic 2.1 Firmware?
I think that means you're currently using HSPDA as your connection instead of 3G
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
hmm thats interesting. never did it before. always displayed 3, and sometimes E or G something like that when it went down to GSM.
Obviously the H idicates a HSPA network.
i was abit confused myself to see the "H" but as far as i know now it is actually faster the 3g so if thats correct then its a good thing
In order of speed:
G - GPRS (56Kbit/s)
E - Edge (236.8 kbit/s)
3G - UMTS (384 kbit/s)
H - HSPA (7.2 mbit/s - 14.4 mbit/s)
So yes: YIPPPIIII
The X10 always had HSDPA, it used to always run on it just never had the icon as 1.6 struggles to display it as it was never designed to be used on HSDPA handsets.

[Q] How do i know if 3G is working??

How do I know if my 3G is working? (Tmobile US, HD2, WP7, Leo70, very new just flashed it) What I am basically is wondering is how can I tell if my 3G is on? I do not have a data plan on my phone, due to the fact that I am always at school so I can always be on WIFI so I have no need for it. The Wifi works perfectly I just want to know if my 3G is working bc if I look at the signal it has signal but has no letters beside it like "3G" "E" etc... any help??
THANK YOU!
If you do not have a data plan no "H" "3G" or "E" icon will show up.
An easy way to test this is if you turn off your Wi-Fi and then try to load a website, if it doesnt load, no data.
i get that but what im wondering if the fact when i was running wm6.5 i had 3g written at the top by the signal bars and now there is nothing??
If you setup the APN correctly then it will establish a data connection with T-mobile whether you have a data plan or not.. When you install WP7 rom it wont have the apn set.. you have to do that manually... Also if you turned off Data in the cellular menu it wont show E/3G/H..
Some Advice if your not using the DATA then in the Cellular Menu turn off 3G and switch to 2G like that it uses less battery compared to trying to stay connected to Tmobiles 3G
T-Mobiles main apn: epc.tmobile.com or (for the proxy) wap.voicestream.com
I've just loaded a Win Phone 7 rom onto my HTC on vodafone.
On Win6.5 I used to get G, E, 3G, 3G+ as symbols at the top of the screen.
In Win 7 my 3G toggle is on, but all I get is G or H??
Is G = 3G in this instance because the toggle is on and H = 3G+ or am I only getting slow connections (i.e. really G=gprs and H is edge)? The browser speed seems OK, but.....

If you get either G or H thats good... G is basic GSM and H is faster 3G
H is HSPDA+
G is GSM
Finally An Answer For You....
In WP7, go into Settings. Tap Cellular (your carrier in this case T-Mobile) should be displayed.
Tap the 3G Connection setting to it turns on. And you're done. If you want to see if you have 3G or whatever connection at any given moment you can lock the screen and turn it back on to see the connection status in the upper left corner.
A simpler way, is like on the WM6.5 world...tap the very top portion of the screen (where the taskbar would be in WM6.5). Your battery, time, and connections status will drop down.
Voila!

Sir, just fyi: "G" means GPRS on a GSM network. HSDPA is still GSM, but with higher rates. "E" menas EDGE and has lower rates compared with HSDPA but hight compared with GPRS.
When you has G means your network is slow, about 1.5Mbps, when E it's quite OK,3.5Mbps and when H or 3G your network has higher rates 7.2Mbps or +
Hope it helps

How do I toggle between 3G and HSDPA?

Have searched the entire forum for this to no avail. I want to disable HSDPA and only enable 3G. This was a straightforward process on my SGS. Assistance appreciated.
/h2
HSDPA is the only 3G standard that the phone supports, as far as I understand. So as far as the Desire HD goes, they're the same thing.
I am on t-mobile in th UK. My dhd switches between showing a G or H on the top line. If I go into settings, about phone, network, mobile network type. It shows either gprs, udms or hsdpa depending on signal type available. The phone supports edge too and can show an E on the too line but T-Mobile uk don't appear to support this.
Not sure how you could limit it but t-mobile have done this for some, contracts as reports elsewhere of download speeds capped at 384kbs I.e. max rate for 3G rather than the 2mbs+ I have seen on mine. Seems to be,contracts bought through resellers that don't include data and they use the free booster to provide the data element.
Hth
I am on T-Mob in the UK too. I get either G (GPRS) 3g (3g) or H (HSDPA) not seen an E yet and I have had it since October.
Mine switched between 3G and H on its own accord, there is no toggle that I know, think it depends on where you are and the mast you are connected to at the time?

It depends on where you are and the signal strength your getting, why you would want to disable HSDPA is beyond me, it is the fastest you can get on your desire hd, E being the slowest (edge) then G, 3G, then H.
Why would you want to make your device slower?
Very weird, but anyway, as far as i know you can only toggle between 2g and 3g which will incorporate HSDPA as well.
Hope this helps.

HSDPA consumes more battery. My SGS used to support Edge, 3G and HSDPA too with an option to disable HSDPA and and allow 3G and Edge only.

Who was telling otherwise?
For Using only 3G or HSPA
Settings->Wireless &Networks->Mobile Networks->Network Mode->select WCDMA only.
Here according to your preference change between UTMS(or WCDMA) or GSM(2G).
Also to clarify speeds
G<E<3G<H.
