X10 Battery solution, Helix Launcher - XPERIA X10 General

The Helix launcher, the solution to the problems with the battery of the X10.
I think the main problem of the X10's battery consumption is the original launcher, which should have a process that stays resident and eats the battery.
With the Helix launcher, I managed to go from 12/14 hours of battery life up to 36 hours!

is that with your wifi on?

dude, what version of it are you using?

where can I found Helix Launcher for X10?

Correct you want HelixLauncherDonut.
I'm trying it now, I can get about 16 hours with moderate use on standard Home.

with my BT & WIFI off, the battery went down to 40% from 100% in 7 hours over night (IM+ was running). it's really bad!!!
my Blackberry 9700 with all IMs, weahter app, emails sync... uses only less than 8% over night.

Best Regards

I debranded my fone to R1fa016 hoping to address the battery problem.. it started hopeful but went downhill after..
My standard usage waz switchin 3g on when needed, wifi at home here and there, bluetooth off, gps off unless needed and it used to last only like 10-13hrz.
However i saw option on wifi settings to never sleep and after seein mixed reviews online i thought id try it and i must say im really impressed..
Yesterday, i used 3g for bout an hr, a few quick callz, some msgz, about 2hrz of listenin to music and random phone usage from 11.30am to around half 1 in mornin today and battery waz around 70%.. then used wifi after for about hr n half and i happen to knock off cause i waz tired so wifi waz stil runnin til 11.30am and ma battery was at 45%.
I dnt like low battery so i charged it extra 20minz before I went work which brought battery life upto 62%. Today ive used about 2hrz of 3g, 3hrz of music, alot of callz n msgz and writing this long ass essay lolz and im down to 7%
Im happy with my new battery life.. and sorry 4 the boring essay but hope it helps!

what exactly is this app, where do i configure its settings? does it run on top of my other home screen?

It's an alternative home app with more features. Download the donut version from http://anonym.to/?http://helixproject.ruqqq.sg/, install and then when you press home choose Helix. Ideally set as default then reset the phone to make sure you have the default home unloaded.

cool, I've played around with it, pretty neat, will it really help battery life if i put more home screens and running widgets?

It could do. The theory is the default home is bugged and drains battery. If Helix works better then it should use virtually no CPU when idle. A buggy widget could drain battery just as easily, but if you use more homescreens then the only difference should be in RAM usage I think.

Download the application from here: Helix Launcher Donut 1.2, Put it anywhere on your sd card. Download a program such as astro that can install .apk files. Open astro, find the helix launcher in it and tap it. Select install.

this is really saving my battery, very little battery drain after 8 hours!

Battery problems? Google lies?

So I found this great app that tells me how much life I have left on my battery. I find that with my phone I can hardly go pass 16 hours with MODERATE use yet everyone here is bragging about easily passing 30hrs with HEAVY use. So I'm asking you guys, to please, download this app called BatteryTime Lite and post your pics or info here. Lets compare the results. Remember to set the level to 100% as shown in my pic below..

No, stock. Why you ask?
i read somewhere that Stock and Cyanogen's ROM have display consuming a lot of battery... its fixed on enomther's and modaco's desire port...
On Cyanogen and Stock, Display consumes ~60% battery while on Enomther's and MoDaCo's desire port, display consumes 15~20% battery...

Thats what I herd too..thats why I'm also calling google a lier about saying this thing lasts 20hours with audio playback.
I'm curious, do they see a big improvement in battery when the display using 15-20% battery or its just numbers that were out a place to begin with?
I have identical figures. That combined with picking the N1 from a list says to me that these are just database figures rather than real world ones for your handset.
Root your phone and then install cyanogenmod and one of the under volted kernels. I usually get 24 - 30 hours battery life.
I just ran a test. I left the mp3 player on all night turn all the way on repeat. SO far after 8hrs of playing I was at 52%. If I'm correct, I just might be able to hit 18hrs...MMMM

No problems at all? no 3g issues?, battery only lasting a day or half? or touch screen issues?
Ok after 100% charge..the app is telling me that my phone will last 10hr:48min with moderate use....anyone thinking that the F on my P/N might mean battery sucker..
i have the exact same numbers as you. if you choose other instead of the phone type it asks you to enter your battery's info so it sounds like it only goes by the type of battery anyway. Not actual usage specific to your phone
My phone ends in an F as well. My battery life SUCKS right now. I have tried everything. The weird thing is it was good until I rooted my phone and applied Cyanogen rom. I've tried .2 and .3 for the Cyan rom's, all with bad battery life. I've tried wiping batterystats, fulling draining battery then recharging, task killer to wipe anything in the background, I even have a 2nd battery. No luck. I've also tried the undervolted kernal, but I didn't really notice a difference with it. (Only tried it for about a day so)
Bottom line though, something is going on. Something (I suspect with Cyan's roms) is killing battery life for some of us. I just wish I could figure out what it is.

Any chance you're using Weatherbug or Weatherbug elite (based on your SS)? After installing weatherbug and using the widget I got absolutely ABYSMAL battery life. I've purchased several other weather widgets and none had the effect that Weatherbug did for some reason. I removed it and battery life is back to normal again (moderate use and plenty of battery at the end of the day).

How long your battery lasts definitely depends on the apps youre using, I use my phone a lot, probably more than the average user, although i dont make many calls. My phone will easily last from when I leave my house around 530am till 11pm or so when I go to bed. I do use a task manager to kill stuff I dont need running every once in a while, I think it really just depends on how you use it. I use it for a lot of texting, surfing and news, and Pandora at work. I use wifi when im at home although ive never noticed it eating my battery. Yesterday I was playing Pandora over bluetooth on 3G for a little over 3 hours and it only took 5% of my battery. Im on Cyanogen 5.0.5.3, if that matters. With all that said I rarely go all day without charging it, I usually plug it in a bit at work and plug it in when I get home, but if I dont for whatever reason it easily lasts my whole day.

Which ROM gives the best battery... period?

Does anyone know? My guess is MCR or Enom... but I can't be positive. Anyone?
Im waiting for the next release of cm, if it wont improve my battery life i am going to systematically try out all the other mods to see which one gives me the most juice.

Can you put this in context though? What was your battery life like previously? What ROMs have you used? What kernel are you using? Where can you even get 5.0.6?
Yeah battery life has to be tested to a standard method one good way to test would be to play a movie with the volume at Max with high brightness or transferring one big file over wifi for a period of time and see how fast it drains. This will act as a stress test and will bring comparisons a lot faster and more efficiently.

The one that doesn't allow you to turn on the phone. Battery lasts for weeks!
In all seriousness, using stock rom gives me a very good battery life now, lasting more than a day with almost everything on, 2 push emails, full brightness and all 3G.
CM 5.0.6 T2. so far ive got a full day of usage out of this rom with 3G all day. setcpu profiles enable. Gtalk, Twitter, Emailing. 5 or more phone calls 15 min each. Two app downloads from market.
But if i was just going to play and show off i had use Enom rom and its far by the best. for battery life. CM 5.0.5 i didnt get great battery life. i could leave my phone over night 100% and wake up to it on 80%-70% or so. with nothing in the background
An undervolted CM 5 may give you a better battery life...
Waiting for 5.0.6...
Cyanogen 5.0.6 is far and away the best ROM I've used, power wise.
Up to 5.0.5.4 I was seriously considering getting rid of my N1, as the battery would lose 80% in less than 10 hours, just sitting on standby combined with less than an hour's worth of web browsing.
5.0.6 is much better, and I'm still showing 50% after 16 hours.
Still not a patch on my old Nokia 5800, which went 3 days at a time on a single charge, but at least I have the confidence to actually use my N1 now...
I'm sorry I call BS on anyone who claims they use their phone AND get more than a day battery life. Until someone is willing to give me a Nandroid backup to restore to my phone to see what it is that is running and prove that their programs and background processes make for a 20+ hr battery, I don't buy it.
I'm off the charger since 8am and am down to 91%... it is ridiculous. I'm on an AVS kernel and Enom with not much running in the background.

Is that aimed at me?
I have a Facebook widget, along with the standard news and weather widget running, and email (NOT the Google mail app) set to refresh every 15 minutes.
I use the browser (on 3G/HSDPA) for up to an hour, here and there, and about the same on wi-fi at home.
GPS is always on, Wi-Fi and bluetooth only on when required.
The Last.fm app also gets used for up to an hour, although not every day.
Couple this with the odd phone call and text message.
The above would see my battery down to less than 20% after about 10 hours, and was really annoying.
The past few days, when I went to bed the battery was hovering around the 50% mark - although I've not used Last.fm this week.
Of course, this may not meet YOUR definition of phone usage, but it certainly isn't BS...

[Q] Help me to choose BETTER Battery Saver APP. :)

I bought my Xperia X10 last August 18 '10. I didn't have the initial charge that is 4 hours because X10 charging have automatic stop when the battery is full.
I charged it in the morning and it run for 24 hours just SMS and phone calls.
Then I try to install Advance Task killer and Helix Launcher. Task killer really makes my battery WORST! Instead of 24 hours life it became almost 12 hours only.. Helix is most probably not working. (I think.)
I uninstalled Advanced Task killer and no difference..
I would like to install Battery Life saver application but I don't know what Launcher fits best. I tried Helix but I think I doesn;t work better for my X10.
I envy other users that there phone last for 2-3 days. I want my phone just like that..
Any suggestions what launcher or application? and where can I download it for free?
Thank you so much XDA DEVELOPERS!
wat firmware version are u on ? i found that it took 15-20 full charges for the battery to really break in...as well dont use task killers, they arent necessary. I used juicedefender for a bit, but didnt really see a difference. another helpful thing you should try is to restart your phone after charging
another app you could try is setcpu, however that requires root
Try adw launcher
Sent from my rooted 026 X10i using swype via Xda
My suggestion is root the phone, use ADW launcher and uninstall any task killer apps like ATK or JD. My X10 lasts 2 days with moderate usage, that includes games and music too. It'll last three if I only use it for texting and calling. Hope this helps
Agreed, ditch the "powersaving" apps, they kill standby time. Also check how synchronisation is set up, constantly waking up to update facebook, twitter, mail et cetera will kill your battery.
Can only agree with the other posts, and just to re-affirm that you need to cycle the battery a good few times to get the best from it and three days is still early days. ADW is a great launcher, you don't need to be rooted if that's out of your comfort zone.
My way is NOT using any task killers or battery savers, leave all that to android! Do 3 full charge/decharge cycles and one every ones in a while. And ofc 2-3h of youtube will drain your battery.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
quite interesting point about task killing app.
I heard in both side while app-killing save a batt and drain a batt.
May be people are in difference behavior. and their using s/w is also difference.
Any specific thread for this?
My first (few) days for x10 is like you, twice or triple charge a day, I even bought spare batt. I decided to root and upgrade to the lastest firmware, clean all startup app, clean all scheduled sync and turn on juicedefender with new home-app. that was big improve from 7-10HR to 20-25HR with moderate use.
You should give a try
Retracted: I misread the post mentioning JuiceDefender as being about ATK. My bad.
I currently only use juice defender, seems to do the trick. Task killers made no difference to me.
Research how android works and you will see task killers are pointless. Just stop things doing automatic updating instead.

my approx usage a day:
50 texts
10 emails
hour on phone calls
wifi usually connected
gps off
update interval usually the longest duration
30-45mins of web browsing
@ ddewbofh : Where can I find it? Sorry for the stupid question. I'm starting to learn for now.
@ suzed : I already downloaded ADW Launcher, does it really have automatic task manager? If I use it, it will affect my battery or not?
@ Tjotte : I want battery saver because I can't bring my charger always. I already had 3 cycles of full charge/decharge, still no change.
@ Cebees : How will i root and upgrade the firmware? Can I do it all by myself? Do I have to reformat my X10?
Thanks for the replies! It really helps me a lot. I'm still observing how ADW Launcher works for me. Hope for your comments and suggestions again (sorry for the poor english)

Wow, the vibrant's battery.

I just switched from the G2, and I don't seem to be getting as good of a battery life. I just went down from 50 percent to 4 percent in 3 hours. Is this normal?
I don't think my phone is sleeping when the screen off. I'm kind of new to android, so excuse me asking, but how do you check if you phone is not sleeping and draining battery while idle? Is there an application or something to check?
One more thing, I just got the new update yesterday. I heard that it's not good to use a task killer, but I'm now using the built in task manager to close apps before I lock my phone seems to be helping with battery life. What are you opinions on this?
Check the battery thread, life seems to vary along among the Vibrants. A lot are reporting 11-15 hours of use before needing a charge.
I read that it's good to put Wifi on never sleep (if you're on Wifi) and use a black wallpaper
Interesting, how do I go about changing the wifi to never sleep? I can't find it in the settings!

If you change WiFi to never sleep, it eats battery like crazy (at least for me, I'm bought with no data, and could barely last a day from when I woke up to going to sleep). With WiFi art to never sleep when charging, I only drain around 40% in an awake day (from when wake up to going to sleep).
Also, when I set WiFi to never sleep, my cell standby usage skyrockets.

Extend battery life
Couple of things I have noticed with this phone
1. Get an app Task manager or similar type apps. There are a bunch of them in the store and here. This will allow you at one click to see what is on in programs and better manage that.
2. Go to the Development section here and read the Bionix 1.9 Thread. It explains how to recondition the battery. Even if your battery is new it is good information understanding how the phone views the battery.
3. If I am out of range or do not need, I stop the wifi and bluetooth. In the menu you can set the settings alot of ways, so you just have to experiment on this. (In home screen, hit lower left button and go to settings)
4. I use my email and phone ALL day (min 10hrs) and typically, I get 15-17 hr of use before it hits 10%
5. Finally, once you are comfortable with the phone, you can load a custom ROM from the Development section. The developers here are very through and Do squeeze the most out of the phone.
Good luck and you will love the phone as I do.

1 - terrible advice - esp with JI6 having one built in (long press home).
2 - This is also in the General sticky
5 - try bionix 1.9.0 (or 1 if you want alt lock screens) and try JACs oc/uv - great battery life so far.
On average use I get close to 24 hours out of a charge using mostly WiFi and enabling no-sleep option, running Bionix 1.9.1 with stock kernel with JI6 modem. I'm also running LauncherPro Plus with facebook widget set to auto-refresh every 5 minutes, the most frequent setting for Google sync, and NoLED notification. I think that is very reasonable.
p.s. I do not use task manager since the operating system is supposed to manage the apps on its own.

I use an app from the market called Y5 (free) to automatically shut down wifi if I'm in an area without it and back on if I'm in an area with it.
Works well for me.
My vibrant is less 23% after being off the charger for 4 hrs. One of those hours was me driving without using it.
Something is wrong. Dunno if it's the update, but something is lilling it FAST - wifi ang gps off the entire time...

I use the living hell out of my Vibrant, and usually it lasts for about 4-5 hours. This being during playing games with brightness maxed, or streaming music over 3G and/or Wi-fi.
If I have a day where I am not doing the above, and just using my phone for emial and the facebook and gmail synching, I easily get over 10 hours before I hit 20%.
All in all I am quite happy with it's battery life. I have just learned to leave my phone on the charger till full charge after streaming music drains it to <20%.
I really should put MP3's on it and test how much that drains the battery compared to streaming.
Either way, I get better performance on battery and memory management then my old (work supplied) BB Bold.
My G2 definitely has more battery life than my Vibrant. That said, once you apply the above mentioned tweaks and especially with JAC's OC/UV kernel, and setcpu set at 200-1000 at conservative, the Vibrant battery life improves quite a bit. Still, its not as good as my G2. But not that bad either..
Keep in mind that the G2 doesn't have to power a billboard sized SAMOLED screen either.
Other than that flash on of Sombionix's ROMs with either of the new kernels and then recondition.
I get pretty good battery life because I don't have 3G in my area so I keep it forced to edge and I don't use bluetooth ever and wifi stays off unless i need it.

My vibrant is less 23% after being off the charger for 4 hrs. One of those hours was me driving without using it.
Something is wrong. Dunno if it's the update, but something is lilling it FAST - wifi ang gps off the entire time...

Ditto!
Fully charged on the way to work. On the charger less than 4 hours later with moderate use. No better after update. Was using a task killer with minimal improvement. Love the Vibrant but despise it's battery life.
Something is wrong. I just went 26 hours down to 19% before charging

People, recondition the battery. It's easy.
Charge it to 100%, keep it plugged in and reboot to recovery, clear the battery stats, drain it all the way, then charge it back to 100% again.
You can start in the morning before work/school and finish at the end of the day. I've never had an issue with battery life on this phone. I can play 6 continuous hours of video/games on this thing and still have battery left.

Also the g2 has froyo witch uses less battery then 2.1

Can't get past "Reinstall Packages"
I am trying to recalibrate my battery after the OTA destroyed it, but every time I select to reinstall packages so I can get to the battery section, it looks for Update.zip on my sdcard, and it wont let me get any further. All I can do is reboot the phone.... any suggestions?

Battery optimizing [MIUI]

Oct 26 2011
ROM: MIUI 1.10.21
Kernal: [email protected] (oct 25th 2011)
902max 122min DARKSIDE
radio stock panache
been connected to wifi this whole time
and I got 84% @ 3 hours 46min. I expected 5hrs.
Im tryin to find out what the hell is draining my battery:
Watchdog app? yahoo messenger? rogue apps? (check out pics below!)
Does anybody have a suggestion for looking for the rogue apps besides watchdog lite? or is that the best one.
Any suggestion for tweaking settings? Ive included pics of whats running

1. looks normal, cell standby is usually the highest on MIUI. how long was your display on?
2. your OC settings look a little high for everyday use. I would try to OC lower and use the superbad governor. my settings are 1017/122 superbad and everything runs smoothly
3. looks like messaging and settings are taking up some memory, try killing those with the task killer. hold down the home button and a window will pop up, on the bottom there is "task killer"
4. looks normal with your OC settings
*edit* Battery Calibration app from the market also works really well, give it a shot. charge your phone til its 100%, and leave it plugged into the charger. run the app, calibrate your battery, then unplug and youre done
Thanks! Ill definitely make those adjustments and post results in a similar time frame. I didnt know I had a built in task killer ... dam i just freed 142MB! woohoo!
oh and what the heck is this? (in pic)

wow lol Ive never seen that before probably just give it a few days for your battery to even things out and settle in. it said your battery was in use for 3 seconds so just wait
LOL battery consumed 15% in half the time than previous. I DL'd battery calibrator, lowered setcpu to 1.2ghz w/onDemand. I wonder what is involved with android systems.

if you tap on "Android System" itll show a list of all the apps and things associated, from there you can pinpoint on what is using up your battery and just kill that app. I also noticed that youre on MIUI and you have a screenshot app...you know that function is already built into MIUI, just hold volume down then tap the menu button. theres a list of all kinds of neat little button quirks in the OP of the thread

Dammit man definitely "beats" makin funnny shakin gestures ... thanks again.
Well, here is my 2 cents.
Keep i'm mind that I had pandora running continuously for almost 5 hours. I unplugged my phone at 11 am. It has been running for almost 13.hours..
I have noticed that if my phone is hooked to a wifi signal, the battery last easy 3 times more.
3 days ago I had it running for 14.hours and it was still at 74%, of course, very little use, since I was a working all day
Second image you can see that I have been keeping the screen on for 3 hours

Thanks guys ...
So today I jus setcpu!
Here is the adjustment and activities I did today in regards to battery usage:
Set CPU @ 1.1ghz smartass (same performance)
unplugged for 5hrs
4hrs using data: yahoo messenger, internet browse, gtalk
used ubermusic in traffic (bumpin "ni**as in paris" on repeat LOL)
1hr on wifi (unless wifi was automatically turned on at the mall)
no calls (TY columbus day)
Tried to take a pic at 85% to keep it consistant as the first pic. LOL
Ill be traveling this weekend so im gonna put the GPS to work.
I used GPS the other day @ 1.6ghz and the latency was so minimal
with reroutes being spoken after maybe 200-500 ft of a turn not taken.

O use MIUI.us .
I'm going to post you the progress during the day today.
I'm unplugged the phone at 9 am, right now is 11:22pm and I still have 61%
As you can see I have been all day hooked to a wifi. If i'm not in a wifi, I would be at 20% I think
Btw, my display says 48 min , so you can see that I didn't use my phone that much, I have been.working all day

As general information, what I did was:
Wipe everything
Install ROM
Factory reset
Install my basic apps
Drain the battery to zero
Charge it all the way to 100%
Calibrate it with the app on the market
let the battery die again til zero
Charge it again til 100%
After the second day, it was going.better
Fyi, if I am constantly on non wifi networks, it goes down faster.
And i'm using panache radio
Hope it works for you

The person before you recommended that tactic ... and I have done so to help with the result ive got.
Here is my next hurdle:
CELL STANDBY
I believe CM7 or RoyalGinger had an option to manipulate cell standby while on wifi networks. Since im not using MIUI ill be researching this to get rid of this issue.
Thanks to the replies and xda this is the longest ive had my phone unplugged @
21 hrs (i had to plug my phone via usb for 2min to get something from my SD card cause I was impatient to figure out how to send it wirelessly, so no screenshot)

to help with the Cell Standby, while connected to wifi, set your mobile network to 2G/GSM only in the mobile network settings. prevents your phone from trying to connect to 3G/4G which saves battery as well

no problem bro. yep, running TDJ's Darkside Runny v1.5.1 and its the best Sense build Ive ever flashed. along with the blissmod and quicklaunch widget, its just bad ass. I was a religious MIUI user, but this rom just drew me in. of course the battery life is shorter on Sense builds due to the UI and all the eye candy and bloat, but after 19+ hours average on a full charge, Im not complaining one bit
Do you get commission selling sense roms ? LOL dammit MAN!
i would switch up if i could get 19hrs on sense 3.5. I like its UI interaction (ie text message has address and I can highlight and go straight to navigation)
My issue aside from battery is the widgets not loading correctly on sense 3.5. Do you get that?
With all that eye candy, bloat, etc What do you run your processor at? is it still 1012max superbad?

nah, never had any problems with the widgets. everything works for me as it should. yeah Im still running 1017/122 superbad on Sense as well, no problems at all and everything is still smooth. I dont play games on my phaone, so I mainly browse the net, text, call, listen to music, etc...sync only when needed and OC when needed also.

NICE, I might try that in a couple weeks. Im gonna be on the road so I dont wanna make any major changes and
But this is how you kill a battery(pic & vid:
http://youtu.be/ionWqDJobVM
After 26 hours. The display says 2 hours and 45 min. Pretty much all the time on wifi.
In the next days I will try the new battery that I bought, it.us a 1700 capacity.
Let's see how it goes . And tomorrow I will usable the wifi , you are going to see the big difference
