evo screen issue, anyone else? - EVO 4G General

i noticed today that my evo's screen has some sort of light warping near the bottom left corner. i don't have a picture to show, but i'd like to know if anyone else notice something like this. it's most noticeable when the whole screen is white (like a webpage) and then hold the screen in front of you with the top tilted slightly toward you like 20 degrees. i get a little diagonal light warping near the bottom left corner, pretty noticable.
i'm not flipping out too hard because it's not noticable except from this angle. looking at it directly straight on looks perfectly normal. but i want my evo to be perfect!

That is normal the EVO is equipped with a backlight so when you tilt it it will show
its not a hardware issue its normal dont worry..also were did u get ur evo???????
also im the first teen to play with EVO...LOL

i took some pictures, see the diagonal line near the bottom left. that really doesn't strike me as normal!

That's just imperfections with the backlighting for the screen, it happens.

I can see the lights at a angle but I have to turn it completly flat to see the lights. Yours looks like its lighting your screen. My evo does not do that.

I would definitely take that back to the store I got it from if mine did that. Since it's a gift, you might be SOL, unless you go through HTC? Not familiar with warranty stuff like that...

I'd be pissed if that happened to me again. It happened with my Touch Pro and as much as I tried, I couldn't get a replacement or repair. No one would even acknowledge that anything was wrong.
On a very related note, I think it sucks that there is backlight leakage at the bottom of the phone casing. I hope this varies from unit to unit.

My Evo does have this as well.

All EVOs have that light bleed on the bottom. Almost every review has commented on it. They've also said it really isn't a deal killer.
Guess some folks are pickier than others.

It just happens, design flaws. I'm tempted to wait and get a later revision EVO.

I did read about the light bleed before buying. I do not mind the light bleed. Its not that bad on my Evo. I am very happy with overall build. Cant find anything wrong with the manufacturing process on my phone.

Take it back. That is definitely not normal.

mine have that as well

the LED leak from the buttons is normal, the bent TFT LCD screen is not. The display should not look like that.

They probably gave out blems at the Google I/O. just kidding.

Funny enuf mine doesn't have the button light bleed at the bottom. I guess I should be happy about that

My EVO does not have any light leakage whatsoever.

I guess you could chalk it up to the Google I/O batch being the first batch of Evos ever produced. After all, aren't they Developer models? I'd imagine the final version meant for consumers would be free of problems such as the light leakage.

I can see the touch detection surface

On the HTC/Google manufacturing vid for the nexus one display it shows how the screen is comprised of the LCD, the touch detection surface, and the glass. Well... I've just noticed that I can see the touch layer thing, or at least, it looks like the one showed in the video.
If you are under florescent light and look directly at the phone at eye level, tilt it slightly upwards, about 5 degrees or so, and you (well I) can see white dots all over the screen, the dots seem to be visible where the grid/crosshatch lines intersect.
Just thought it was strange, you can see it with the phone on or off
that`s normal, everybody can see it.
yup, just noticed it today ^^; (I've had the phone for 2 weeks)
I noticed it a while ago but I think this is normal.
Seems normal. At first I thought the glittering dots were dust, then realized they were aligned in a perfect grid.
I thought it was pretty cool when I saw it.
I'm glad that the visibility is less than that of the HD2, when I had the HD2 I ALWAYS noticed it.

You can see the crosshatch too if you move the phone around in bright light while the screen is off.

Turn off the screen of the phone.
Now try looking at the screen (there must be a decent light) moving it a little bit in diagonal, if you look very close you will see the grid of the touchscreen.
I've never noticed it until today
It scared me when I opened my n1..but I quite like the diagonal lines. The nexus also has a beautiful purple hue to it.

Screen seperation gone?

Well, my screen isn't 100% even, like the top is a little lower than then bottom, and the bottom right is perfectly flush with the bezel. I dont' have any light leakage at all, so will it rise up anymore, or is my glass just slightly lopsided? BTW this is my 3rd day owning the phone, and i have a hardware rev 0003. Also, i don;t think i have any give on my bottom left side, so its probly nothing, but i want some other input
I would just note that with Sprint or someone at the place you purchased it from. If it doesn't light leak or lift then you are good to go. I had mine replaced and it is not perfect but its close. I know many of want our phones to be perfect but we end up marring it, scratching it or something ooner or later. So enjoy it and as long as it doesn't lift who cares about the slight imperfection.

Yea there is no light leakage, so i guess im just anxious about other peoples issue, and i will have a case soon so it won't even be an issue. Thanks for the response!

Dark patch on screen

Has anybody else noticed a dark patch on the edge of their screen? Along the top side of my screen, I can see it going off white when browsing a website in portrait mode for example.
It's like the back light isn't working properly there or something. Anybody else got this, should I get a replacement?
It's not hugely visible but it's noticeable on a white screen at any brightness level
Idk, it's up to you. I have light bleed in my right hand corner that is always visible, unless your in a well lit room on 0% brightness. I can't decide whether or not I want to send mine back though because of how common these backlighting issues seem to be.
Yeah. Mine is flawless otherwise. Its so barely noticeable I think I'll just get used to it.
Same ha ha, other people can't even spot it when i point it out to them on auto-brightness.
Yes, I noticed mine right away, but like others have said, its hardly noticeable. It doesn't bother me at all...
Sent from my Nexus 10 baby!
Same thing here. Most noticeable on a solid white background. I'm starting to think it's not a lighting problem but something to do with the way the panel is manufactured. If I hold the tablet in landscape so it's perpendicular to my face with my eyes lined up with the camera, the brightness is even across the panel. As soon as I tilt the bottom towards me, the brightness falls along the top edge. Makes it seem more like a viewing angle issue related to the way the layers are assembled or maybe a difference in pressure on the panel along that edge.
I decided to live with it because it's very rare that I have an app running in full screen that puts a light background across that area.
Same issue for me as well

I had the same issue with my first unit, did RMA and got second one. Second one had the exact same issue. Finally decided to get refund. The play store customer support said that there were few people reporting it already. This might be a design issue as well- the way device is tapered differently at the edges(backlight might not be aligned properly), two strong magnets near camera etc. Just speculating.
Dark patch here too. RMA process underway. 1/3 of screen has yellow tint. Noticeable when reading on white background. Annoyance.

Keep us posted on the replacement device!
Same problem here. I received my Nexus 10 yesterday and notice dimming primarily (exclusively?) along the long edges. While reading a web page with a white background in portrait mode I found myself wondering if chrome was adding a gradient to the edges for some stylistic effect, but realized that made no sense. I observed the same problem with Firefox, and then I installed a screen testing app and observed the dimming with a solid white screen.
It sounds like this is probably a manufacturing/design error. Now I have to decide whether it's worth the rigmarole of exchanging the device, probably to no effect. I guess this is the risk you take when purchasing a device sight-unseen.
If you bought it from a store it would still be unseen, since it would be in the box. I had the same problem with the iPad 3. It took me three exchanges to get one with an acceptable screen. All of them had dark, blotchy, yellow patches. By all accounts it's due to the adhesive glue they use. We shall see what the replacement brings. Order is currently at the 'pending' stage.
I also have this on my screen. Right side when in portrait mode. You can't see it in landscape, which is weird. My wife and I have decided to keep it, though, as everything else about it is perfect. Plus, this defect, if you want to call it that, does not detract from our enjoyment and uses.

To clarify, I meant that I'd never had the opportunity to use *any* Nexus 10 in person. Had I done so, and noticed the dim edge, it would have at least raised the possibility that there was a design or manufacturing issue.
Speaking of which, I examined an in-store Nook HD+ display unit yesterday and what do you know: it had the same dim edge issue.
By the way, where did you hear about the adhesive glue explanation?

Mine has--I assume--the same dimness along the entire length starting about 1/4" from the bezel along the "top" camera edge. It is actually somewhat distracting when reading a book in portrait mode. If I flip the screen around so that the dimness is on the left edge, for some reason I find it much less annoying. Unsure if this is a warranty replacement issue though. I haven't found another Nexus10 to see in person yet.

It was all over the iPad forums when the iPad3 came out. Plenty of people with dodgy screens. Some reported success in leaving brightness turned up to max and plugged in for 24hrs etc to dry. But may have been placebo. It could also be an entirely different cause other than adhesive. After all, what do I know? In any case, mine's heading back, but the replacement is still stuck on 'pending'
I had a rare bit of luck. Somebody sat next to me on the bus yesterday evening and pulled out an oddly familiar black tablet. I explained the problem I was having and asked if I could examine his Nexus 10. His device had a perfect display, with no detectable dimming near the edges. So the issue appears to be a manufacturing defect, not a design flaw, and something that could in principle be solved with a replacement unit.
I called Google last night and have my RMA email. I'll ship it off this weekend.

Nexus 9: Lightbleed Thread

Hey,
Thought we could have a thread to document Light bleed and how it varies between device (apparently).
Here's a potato quality version of mine: http://imgur.com/YzFs4uy
It's not too bad but I can notice it on dark screens particularly the bottom left corner and top right. Wondered if it's worth RMA'ing or if this is similar to what people have on theirs. If it's bad by the average then I'll return.
Just thought this could be a useful resource.
Wow, that's bad! Mine is barely notable, only on the top it is visible of the status bar is colored.
I've just started the RMA process for my Nexus 9 because of the light bleeding right across the whole top edge of the display (and because I can't increase the volume on it without digging a nail into the button!).
I though I could ignore it but with the way all the material design apps colour in the status bar they status bar looked like it was always a gradient as opposed to a solid block colour.
I was in two minds whether or not to RMA it or not but came to the conclusion that if I went today to trade it in at a shop (for money or in part exchange for another product) with the condition of the screen and the button I wouldn't even get the a top trade in value for it even though it's only 2 days old.
I'm hoping that the unit that gets sent out to me is in a much better condition.

How was it in comparison to my picture? Not sure if to RMA or not?
There is already a thread in the help section with quite a few pics and posts of people with light bleed.

So like everyone else has notice, I have some light bleed as well, but I don't notice it unless I load a black wallpaper. I am not sure if I will return it or nor as I don't usually run a black black wallpaper.

Mine looks virtually the same as yours. One big patch of light bleed on the upper right (viewing in portrait mode) and 2 small patches along the lower corners. I'm on a White 32gb.
My advice is return for an exchange or RMA'ing, whichever you think is faster.
If bought locally, exchanging is the way to go.
I found a video on Youtube of someone claiming that his doesn't have lightbleed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrT0GAaPgoQ
Take this video with a grain of salt though because I think the camera he is using is on VERY low exposure to the point where you can't see the backlight.

No, a fair few people with Black versions also complained.
I think I'm going to return mine, frustrating but for the money it shouldn't be hard to not have this non-uniform lightbleed
This is ridiculous.

Looking at the pics I'm glad mine isn't nearly as bad..there's one bottom left corner on my white 32 that has slight bleed but nothing like the ones you all have posted...
I have 32Gb white, but I don't see any extensive light bleeding on my unit, nor wobbling back panel... I'm extensively using my device for past 24 hours, watched video, news, web browsing, and haven't noticed any issues with extensive light bleeding. I'm not even noticing anything like on the pictures from previous posters.

Do we/you think we going to have this issue on 4G/LTE version of the Nexus 9, because I'm thinking of buying either the Nexus 9 or the nVidia Shield Tablet 4G/LTE

Misaligned screen

So I have the edge since the 11th now. And every time I have the feeling that the screen is centered to the right side, I notice it extra with a case. As the area between the bezel and the screen is larger on the left side.
This afternoon I looked with an magnifying glass and indeed saw that this was indeed the situation. It is about 0.1 mm or so but oh so annoying. Luckily I can exchange it, however there will be only phones I stock around the 30th. Keeping mine thill then.
Are there others with the same issue?
The attached version is not my phone, but just an example to explain.
To better understand what i mean I attached a picture. I have the black version but you could see it as the black line on the right side of the phone is thinner than on de left, so the screen is essentially to far to the right..
not the best picture for judging...
But I know what you are talking, I have seen a few devices now and all of them were different in terms of screen quality and alignment!
for me, the worst problem is the uneven contrast (darker sides) on most of the screens. i own 3 devices now and all of them have display flaws. two suffer from a yellow tint when tilting, the other screen has a slightly darker left side... :|

I know. When my S6 comes back from warranty repairs I will try to make a picture. The S5 I have laying around can't focus clearly enough.
Well I hope I won't have a replacement with tint issues or such. Because my screen is, aside of the alignment, pretty perfect. Maybe I'm a bit nitpicky but I think that's justified with these kind of price tags.
I still have till the 30th to get used to it or exchange it. An order for a replacement has been made.
People complain about issues of screen color when tilting the device.. When are u ever tilting the device? U should be looking at it dead on anyways.

The picture I used is just to explain what i mean with the black lines on my phone. Imagine that picture with no black line on the right of the phone, so the screen blends in with the white. And a bigger black line on the left.
That's what i have, but my phone is black so i cant put it on a picture to explain it.
I can really only tell in a dark room, but there is ever-so-slight light leakage where the glass meets the metal on the bottom of my S7 Edge. I see the slight leakage on the bottom-left and bottom-right. Doesn't bother me much, maybe a little, but my experience with smartphones is you'll be lucky to find one with absolutely flawless everything including screen alignment. It's often not worth exchanging for a new one, which may have other issues. Plus there's the whole issue of setting the phone up from scratch again. My device seems to be working fine (this is my 5th day with it) so far, so I won't be exchanging it.
After reading this thread I checked mine and its is misaligned like you described. I then went to Samsung and they checked and said that its normal. Now that I see it, its driving me crazy.

Same
Same **** with me. My screen is also misaligned and its driving me nuts with this phone price i dont know what to do about it. I have s7 edge btw same **** all over with the s6edge. I really didnt notice it when using the phone. I noticed it when im checking out the phone looking how pretty it is then when i turned on the screen i noticed that the left side of my screen has a thinner black bezel and when i look on the right it has a little bitty gap.
