When you send a maps link to your phone, it just sends whatever is in your address bar, which is probably just maps.google.com if you're getting a blank map on your phone.
Click the "Link" button in the top right corner, copy the link in the box, paste into a new tab, THEN click send to phone, and voilà!

Is there anyway to push directions directly to the Maps App or does everything have to be opened in the phone browser?

It doesn't There for you have to use the alternate method

If you prefer Firefox, here is the link to that version instead
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161940/

I'll just post this encase other people run into this problem. If you are copying and pasting the maps link make sure you are using maps.google.com I tried it with google.com/maps and the copy past link wouldn't work.
Hope this helps!

That's fabulous, thanks for the heads-up! Is this the extension and app from google itself? why is it then so rudimentary compared to the keynote demo?

Is it me, or are the notifications for this permanatly on full blast?

Does anyone know whether you can you use cloud to device as a way to dial out on Nexus without touching the phone?

Potentially, I believe so, but you would need to write something up. Not sure what all commands are allowed from the cloud API

If you use pauls method of copying the link to your browser It should already do that, as long as you checked that box in the app on the phone, that allows you to do so

Big problem with google account authentication

I've found that many apps that use my google account for authentication simply don't work properly on the Galaxy S 2.
My Tracks - uploading a track to google maps doesn't work, it just times out
Google Goggles - go to settings, enable search history, saving goes on forever
I hooked my phone up to my development PC to watch the logcat log when attempting to do one of these actions. This is what I can see

Is everyone's SGS2 doing this, or just mine? It seems like a fairly major bug if it affects everyone.
Bump. Can someone else please test with google goggles or my tracks, see if you have the same problem as me.
Already posted that My Tracks has an uploading problem .

same problem here with goggles.. saving just hangs..
Can confirm same - my tracks, and d7 google reader affected. also heard of google analytics being the same..

It's not just my tracks, this bug could potentially affect hundreds of apps. I've already found several that produce the same result. My Tracks, Google Goggles, Andlytics, Noom and CardioTrainer.
Question anyone tried latest firmware update in this regard . KE2
jje
Youtube has a similar issue for me (as does Goggles).
I'm on KE2 and had it in KE1 as well but never checked on KDD. Sim free retail GS II.
Youtube says this when I try to upload a video:
Code:
Failed to retreive account information
Edit*
Fixed the Youtube issue by signing out of Google from Youtube and signing in with my Youtube username.
Confirmed. Goggles hangs while enabling history. Signing in to YouTube was a hassle, but eventually it worked. Don't know how though.
Yes I have updated to the latest firmware and it didn't make any difference. I guess it's not affecting enough apps to really cause a problem for most people, but as a developer I used Andlytics quite a bit on my old phone, I now wish I had waited for the HTC sensation instead of the SGS2.

Same here on KE2.
Using KXWE1 and noticed same problem with D7 Reader. Any way to notify Samsung about this.
Anyone know which company to inform about this? Is it a google problem och Samsung problem?
Seems like its google...There is even an issue up on my tracks forum. Can't post links but its issue nr 255 on the my tracks code page.
Same here with the hanging on saving on goggles
same problem here with mytracks.
My Google Goggles hang on the "saving" issue got fixed after I uninstalled and reinstalled from Market. The previous install of Goggles had been restored from Titanium Backup from my HD2.
So probably not so much of a Samsung/Google issue.
There's an update for Tracks and Maps, have any of you tried to see if the problem's fixed?
Just tried updating and uploading. Same result, stuck at authenticating to google maps.
So its a no fix. Samsung Galaxy S II
Just spotted this on Google Support .

Firstly yes, My Tracks is no longer able to upload directly. the functionality was turned off a few days ago...
But the import SHOULD work. Alas it is occasionally broken like this. the only consolation I can offer is its probably not your fault. And you just have to wait.
The alternative, is instead upload your KML file to fusion tables. Can plot a map from fusion tables. Dont get it in My Maps, of course, but you get a map.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Actully Google just released a update to My Tracks - I got the notification yesterday
They now upload to Fusion Tables. From there can import to Google Maps.
Recommend continugin this on the My Tracks forum
http://groups.google.com/group/mytracks
As to Fusion Tables and SGS 2 .
Still same problem .

Same issue here.

[CONFIRMED] New Google Market working with MarketAccess in Canada

I just rooted my I9100 XXKG3 Bell phone with CF-Root and installed MarketAccess to allow downloading of US restricted apps. The cool part about this app is that it actually works with the new market version. Notice how my Bell Canada Galaxy S2 phone shows as being enabled into Market:

}
So far I installed Google+, Books, Music and TV Remote (I plan to get Google TV soon), all working perfectly with my US Google Apps account. So it is possible to get/use US based applications in Canada.
For those interested to learn more how I did it, I use StrongVPN as service for a US IP address in New York and have a Cisco E4200 DD-WRT router connected to my Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall SRXN3205 router. In this way, I get the best of worlds... a wireless Canadian and US IP address. I got this setup going originally because I wanted to see all the US based movies for Netflix on my TV, while in Canada. I used a free Google Apps account and set it to United States as base country. I can sync now my mail, contacts, music, videos, etc. with one single custom account (@yqed.com) on both my Samsung Galaxy S2 and Tab. For paid apps, I use my regular Canadian credit card, it works fine to purchase any apps. The key (I think) is the Google Apps account to be set in United States.
Here are some screenshots:
hmm... i'm using the latest Android Market and /or Google Market and i don't even need to do any of that
it works just fine in Windmobiles
Do any of US restricted apps install and actually work for you? You have a Canadian provider SIM card in your phone? One thing is sure, it does not work with Bell... as soon I disable the MarketAccess, all US apps are gone. All my restricted apps work properly, for example I'm able to sync music from my PC to all my devices with Google Music. The songs pop right away into app. I was also able to rent and watch a video from Google Videos, not that I plan to use this service but still...
More updates... I noticed that even if I disable the MarketAccess, I still have full access to restricted apps in my browser. I removed the app, did a cache cleanup with CWM and restarted the phone. The apps are not visible anymore into Market but I was able to install fine Google Videos from the browser. That is nice... Let see if Google remembers my fake carrier forever.
Has Google lifted market restrictions? I just tried searching for an app that before I was restricted to and I was surprised to see I can download it now!
Heh, really? What app was it? Before installing the MarketAccess today, I was getting the dreadful "This item cannot be installed in your device's country" message.

Ooops... not really, maybe just the app became available, still can't access Google Music... too bad
That is easy to fix, you only need a VPN provider. Then it will work.
The secret is to actually have the router running as VPN server, or else your app will detect the Non-US IP and fail miserably. DD-WRT does that very nice.
will try that but how about if I'm away from the router? Will MarketEnabler do the trick for Google Music?
bverilo said:

You only need MarketAccess (MarketEnabler is confirmed not to work with the new Market version) to install the Music app and you need an US IP to configure it for the first time into your phone. This is critical, using a VPN directly into your phone won't work. If the app detects an non-US IP, it will not enable the streaming features over a Google account. Once the software link is created to your account, you can use/stream music from any IP in the world. It would be pretty useless to have the app if Google allows you to download your music ONLY when you are in States.
I tested the app to upload new songs from PC with my Canadian IP, as well streaming music on the Music app. It works as intended. This how the app streams a 320kpbs song:
This is how the app widget looks like:
I see... Thanks for the heads up, will get to setting up a US vpn first prior installation. The app looks really cool, something to look forward to.

Sync contact images with FB / other social media and store as account info

I've got an S8, but this problem might be "Android generic" as well...
I've got one Exchange, one Google account. I'd like to sync the two, so that all my contacts are in BOTH places. While I was doing this, I also wanted to update the contact pictures with whatever my contacts have set up on social media (read: Facebook - Google automatically gets the Google Plus image if someone has an account there). Note that I want the pictures to be ACTUALLY stored as part of the contact information in a given account - not just displayed by the phone through some trickery.
Thus far I've had only limited success. I was able to copy the accounts using Contacts Organizer app (paid) and I used Sync.ME to get the latest social-media images. But while the Contacts Organizer allows me to merge the accounts nicely (there's some manual merging that needs to happen in Google Contacts at the end, but it's not that bad) and it even allows me to "copy" the contact information from Sync.ME (which contain a current picture), UNFORTUNATELY, the copying process seems to take picture miniatures, rather than full resolution images that are available. Obviously with Sync.ME installed and configured, the phone displays the high resolution pictures where available, but this information isn't actually saved - as soon as I remove Sync.ME the pictures vanish (and since the app displays ads, I'd rather not keep it around).
How do people update the contact pictures these days? I can't imagine people go around and take photos of each other all the time - I'd imagine people rely on social medial profiles of their friends for the latest selfies and such. Except that Facebook app no longer seems to synchronize contact information, so that leaves Sync.ME (which, in the end, is an add-filled product) or manually updating the images - which I don't believe people actually do. So... how do people manage the images? How can I sync these things up?
Search Google Play for "CoSy - Contact Sync ", I use it and it works like a charm!
i use Sync.me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.syncme.syncmeapp&hl=ro
guys,
the sync problem between FB and Google (android) it's from FaceBook.
They blocked the android access to FB api's.
Hi,
Sync.me, as Eusuntflopi mentionned, works like a charm for me
Sync.me would only match about 20% of my contacts with facebook. CoSy matched 100% and even searched facebook for the people that I didn't have on my friends list. It also seems to save the pictures to my google account so if I remove the CoSy app, the pictures remain.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Sync.Me was good, but it's a paid app and the free version was pretty annoying to use. Plus, it doesn't ACTUALLY place the photos on the contacts - it just adds another account to your device which has the photo information. CoSy actually adds the photos to the account data, which is what I was looking for. Thanks again!
Syncme sucks, i tried it. Theres an app called "contactsyncduck" i found online when i was searching for something that would work. Google search "FB app" and it should be under images. You can download straight from there. Cant miss it, it's a duck. Lol. Its the only thing that works. I just did it. Its a pain because it takes time to do. You have to get the fb profile id number of every contact and write it a special way in the note section of the contact. Make sure you delete any picture you have attached to your contacts before you sync or you wont see their fb profile pic. App is awesome, syncs everything. Works amazing, you just gotta be prepared to spend some time doing this. Totally worth it, i swear! I have an android phone so im not sure if it works with iphone. Good luck! Read the instructions in the "about" section of the app and follow them. Will not work otherwise, its not automatic. Good luck!
CoSy did the trick for me. I will continue to utilize it and see if it holds out over multiple days/weeks.
I've been using the Sync.me app but recently it hasn't updated the contact pic even though it has a matched up FB profile.
Going to switch to Cosy and see how that works out.

Anyone else get this? Any other apps that work like it does?

Same here! It actually started last night with that "harmful app" notification. I can't find it in the play store either.
It was probably pulled for some reason... I'm hoping it's something simple and it'll be back up on the play store.
I'm gonna wait out a couple days and see. Maybe email the developer.

He's in contact with Google, back and forth, apparently because they think his app is "spying".

Half-Life 2

Has anyone else attempted launching hl2 on their switch? I've once managed to see to valve intro with sound but it crashed shortly before reaching any menus. I've reinstalled it and now it no longer crashes and I can hear the valve intro sounds but I receive this error:

Before getting this error I have attempted to use gltools without any obvious success.
Have not tried HL2 specifically, but Portal has been running very well for me. Also—I have the same error message pop up when the main menu loads in Portal, *but* it has no effect on gameplay, the game, menu and levels still load just fine.
I'll download HL2 and give that a try to see if I can get it to work.
Edit: One issue I do have even with Portal running well otherwise is that there are black bars on the right side and bottom of the screen. I think it has something to do with the nav bars, but it still happens even if I hide the nav bar.

shieldfier is a flashable zip so your switch will be identified as nvidia shield.
It is in the first post of (Unofficial) Android release
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ni...opment/rom-switchroot-lineageos-15-1-t3951389
So I bought HL2 Portal and Metal Gear Rising on my Switch via Google Play Store. If I use app screen resize to force resolution to 1920x1120 everything works perfect docked or in portable mode for HL2 and Portal. No matter what I try I cannot get my legal Metal Gear Rising to validate with Nvidia after it logs into the correct Google Play account. I read an app called Lucky Patcher can help but I don't know how to use it...
Question to people who have played HL2 and Portal on the Switch: is it possible to aim using motion controls (gyro aiming)?
And, by the way, did anybody manage to make Metal Gear Rising work?

I don't think the gyro works, because the game was developed to be used with the Nvidia Shield Controller, not Joy-Cons. Got to Ravenholm, but not having true analog on the Joy-Cons is a little frustrating.
I had the same verification problems with Metal Gear Solid 3 HD. Tried a bunch of stuff with Lucky Patcher, but no luck

Seems we can reanable and just whitelist amazon a'd xda
Thank you, this did it for me as well. I searched google and ddg for a couple hours with no luck finding the suggestion of turning off the integrated web server. Alexa nagged me about Chrome needing it's certificate updated, Amazon shopping just kept on saying an error had occurred. A little more verbosity from the programmers when an error occurs would be nice.

Thanks for your own followup. Saved me some search time ! I tried installing both certificates the "new" adaway app proposes but to no avail so I also just stoped the webserver (which never caused such issues before the "new" adaway)

I was resigned to the fact it just wouldn't work.
I turned off Adaway ad blocking and the Alexa app works
Absolutely sick and tired of Amazon.
The amount of money that guy makes from people buying from Amazon and he wants adverts to be forced or things don't work.
He reminds me of the bad guy from Ready Player One.
A complete douche kebab.
PS: yea the fix is to disable adaway, but I pray someone finds a way round that.
I absolutely loathe ads.
If anyone is curious, you don't have to turn the integrated web server off to use Amazon. Just add *amazon* to the Allowed list, hit apply and reboot.
