Having problems after Froyo :( - Nexus One General

Initially everything was good, clean install, had about 100 apps auto restored from market. The rest didnt restore because it was installing to system and ran out of space.
So enabled install to SD, installed most of the rest. Then put the new kernal on, and now nothing will install :/
It sits there saying its installing, but nothing happens Tried a fresh install and new kernal but still nope

Mine does this always, enabling apps on sd or not. Even after a fresh wipe, everything hangs at install. May be going back to 2.1 soon.

I've noticed this, too. The app actually does finish installing, but the market app never clears the "installing" screen. It's annoying, but not actually a problem; if you just hit "back" and go on about your business, the app you were installing will be usable.

Im trying to restore from titanium, which also reports the installation is failing.

I've had this problem on some 2.1 builds, but haven't run into a single issue since updating to 2.2. I haven't done any mods (except rooting) to 2.2 tho. Maybe that could be the problem?

Found solution at another xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6596969&postcount=3
Code:
adb reboot recovery #wait for recovery to load
adb shell
mount /sdcard
rm -r /sdcard/.android_secure
reboot

Su program messed up

ok something crashed on my modaco rom. super user wont work when it goes to it it just shows black screen. tried deleting cache on it and data. no fix. cant use tether or anything root.
I'd reapply the ROM or restore from backup.
i cant do that. everytime i do a nandroid backup it messes up cause of apps2sd.
I had a similar problem. I installed the Su app from the marketplace over it then i uninstalled it and it fixed the app. Worked for me.
ok i tried reloading rom and same thing. i cant find the app you are talking about. is it the super user whitelist. i cant install anything root now when it goes to su and you have to allow it all i get is black screen and it force closes

Yes its the Super whitelist app.
try reformatting the ext partition first. Wipe the system than do a system restore or nandroid restore. If you did a nandroid backup of the faulty system than I hope you have the stock nandroid backup as well.
ok tried the super whitelist and it downloads but never installs just sends me back to the sprint flash and restarts. i dont really want to restore back cause then i have to download all my apps again. im seriously thinking that apps2sd are more trouble than they are worth. maybe some one can do a walkthrough on how to back them up in the event of a crash like this.
Same here

I can confirm this behavior. I just reinstalled from a backup, installing whitelist from the Market gave me the unending HTC screen of death.
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/
Superuser.apk can be found in any one of the available ROMs, fresh, gutted, MoDaCo, etc.

Oh Snap! TY!
I'm having the same issue. Just in case, I ruu'd back and started over.
Everything works fine up to installing the rom.
Debugging is on.
Tried wiping the ext partion from flash screen, says "error" run wipe_ext via consle"
I tried installing the superuser whitelist app from market, and it won't install, says "incompatible update".
Tried pushing the superuser.apk, it says "failed to copy, read only file system.
Any ideas, i'm lost. I can run my nandroid back to before I installed the 1.2c modaco and it works fine, as soon as I install the rom nothing works in root.
I used SU File Manager & Terminal 3.0.6 to cut/copy/paste Superuser.apk back into the app folder. I then ran it and it installed with no problems and works great for me.
I made sure that I used the built in feature to make the system and data folders RW before I cut/copy/pasted anything. Hope this helps.

NO froyo builds are stable on my nexus one.

I'm serious. It's slow everything force closes and I figured now that cyanogen had his new build of Froyo....I could give the kang o rama a try. but everything is still force closing and I have no idea how to fix it and I'm about ready to just give up :/
What do I do?
Are you completely wiping everything before you install a rom?
Give yourself a wipe, or at least a cache partition wipe
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
if its slow then something is using a large amount of cpu power.
I just caught Flickie doing it (thanks to CPUStatusLED)....but it stopped before i got to uninstalling it.
Backup your apps, wipe everything data, ext, cache..then install a ROM.
My phone was freezing/rebooting 3-10 times a day before I did the above and now its quite stable.
EVERYTHING has been wiped. Dalvik, cache, Factory reset, everything I could do without doing anything to the SD card.
I'm seriously at a loss for words.
Currently on kang o rama's 2.2 cyanogen build A2 btw is what I'm trying to work with. Though it has been no different for other roms. I Mean it's so unresponsive and always force closes everything
2.1 works ok ?
2.2 doesn't you say? after all wipes and a clean install of Cyanogen and other ROMs? How about stock Froyo FRF91?
It may be a hardware error if the stock one doesn't work. So even if you got an unlocked phone, Google/HTC should replace it because it's hardware. If you're installing it wrong SOMEhow.. then that's another story.
EDIT: NVM believe I found it
I just went through this.
Just download the PASSIMG.ZIP from the latest Eclair build and put it on the root of your SD card. Go into bootloader and it will automatically pick it up.
In a minute you'll be at stock Eclair. By the time you can get into the Settings menu, you'll have the majority of FRF91 downloaded. Let it do its thing and probably within 5 minutes you'll be sitting pretty on a stock FRF91 Froyo build.

If you've used the Froyo App2SD function, then you might need to delete your .AndroidSecure folder on your SD card after a flash.
I never touched that folder and the last few times I flashed a ROM I was getting weird problems where I couldn't install things, it would hang, I would get FCs, etc. I deleted that folder, rebooted, and everything was cleared up for me.
...Of course you'll have to install those apps again.

Yea thats a good idea. The short time I've been on Android, it seems like A LOT of CRAP gets brought into new builds. Everytime I flash a new rom, the Market downloads all the crap from before. lol.
While I can see it as being a nice feature, it can get troublesome. When my replacement Nexus comes tomorrow, I'm going to backup my APK files and format my SD card. Start completely from scratch on Froyo 2.2
Usually I have NO problem hunting for things myself...but I DO NOT AT ALL...see this "Passimg" in that thread.
ANYWAYS I'm gonna try reflashing the radio to see if that helps

Titanium Backup FC

I have rooted my Vibrant but when i try to back up my apps, titanium back fc's anyone else having this issue?
Yes i'm having the same problem also...wonder if there's a possible fix for this.
Can anyone else confirm that titanium backup is not working?
I sent the developer my logcat. hopefully he can resolve this issue...
I am also having force close issues. Can usually restore an app or two then it force closes on me.
Broken for me too.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I was able to do a backup, but the odd thing is none of my apps showed up at all. Just system settings. But no FC's.
would one of you take a logcat and post it. I will then proceed to send to the developer to see if we can get this fixed.
i have been working w/ the dev, i can confirm this is fixed and i assume there will be an update soon.
EDIT: attached the patched 3.3.0 version.
Awesome news, I had the same problems!
Hi everyone,
I don't own a Samsung phone so thanks a lot for your help in solving this.
The bug-fixed version 3.3.1 is released on the Market, and backups should work fine now.
I'll be adding more Samsung love in the future
Have a great Sunday !
It now works but it still wont detect my user apps after the update.
I never had fc's, but Titanium hasn't been able to back up my apps. I'm assuming it isn't looking in the right place for them, but not sure if there is an option to change that.

it just sits there at 0% on whatever app is first. if i close it out that first app manages to install but without data. the one time i did leave it on for around 10 mins it managed to install two apps.
is there any special thing i need to do before i do a restore?
note these apps are from chromatic 3.7 w/ my g1
edit: just tried new setting under restoration, although its not as fast as doing it on my g1 I managed to get things restored
I am slo having an issue where Titanium says its restoring, but just sits there doing nothing. SOmehow Ive managed to get it to restore once, but I had to wipe and now I cant get it to restore for the life of me. Tried w/ original busybox and the one that downloads inside titanium, both w/o success. Seems that titanium has some sort of issue w/ the Galaxy S.
Has anyone found a solution that allows you to restore your apps? Thanks!
EDIT: Whats really strange is if I try to hide titanium, relaunch it, and try and backup. It gives the message "backup already in progress" but for whatever reason it moves onto the next app...so strange

[Q] LauncherPro Plus keeps refreshing - possible SD Card issue?

I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope this will do...
All of a sudden today my MT4G with LauncherPro Plus keeps refreshing or restarting or something on the home screen. Sometimes it does it every minute or so other times it does it so rapidly the home screen isn't even showing up before it does it again.
Worst part aside from the annoying bright flash every time it happens is that it kicks me out of apps to do it.
It's not a Force Close and no errors pop up it just refreshes to the Home screen as if I hit the Home button or restarted LauncherPro.
I am so confused.
I have no new apps recently, but I did Root a few days ago using The Unlockr's Visionary root.sh method. Had no problems when doing it and phone has been fine since until this. No custom ROM yet, still on Stock 2.2.1 while I research which one I want to get.
I already wrote to the LauncherPro people who thought it might be because Keep in Memory was checked, but it isn't checked so no help there.
There was one point when I unmounted my SD card to put it in the pc to get to the files because this issue kept kicking me out of Astro and I couldn't get anything done. And while the card was out, it did not do it. As soon as the card was back in though it started up again.
Sometimes restarting LP will help, but other times it will make it go more frequently. So frustrating.
Can anyone help or at least point me in the right direction. I have a video of it if that will help to post it, but it doesn't show much, just the home screen restarting several times. Also happy to provide any more info anyone thinks might be helpful it stopping this.
Thanks so much!
Jen

Lol try the Uninstall method but instead install another launcher then press the home button to choice the newly installed launcher and see if that works ?

Tried ADW Launcher and it did the same thing :-( Guess it is not LP after all. I put LP back and reboot. As of now it is not doing it, but I am very afraid to reboot or do anything in case it starts up again LOL

well depending on what ROM you have installed (Im assuming stock froyo after reading the OP), just run the ROM Manager app and then "reboot into recovery". from there, the recovery screen comes up. you can then "wipe cache partition", then "advanced>wipe dalvik cache". finally, "advanced>fix permissions" and after its done you can then reboot your phone. this USUALLY fixes a lot of problems with FC's and other issues

Update: It has continued to do it, not constantly, and seemingly randomly, but yeah, not totally fixed. Going to flash the new CM7, trying to fix other issues, maybe that will help.
I did try your above advice, wiped the caches, fixed permissions... it was stable for a few days then started up again. Really bad at first, like I wasn't even seeing the screen before it flashed again repeatedly. That was about a week or so ago... Now it is still doing it but every couple minutes instead. I mostly don't notice it unless I am in one of the apps it kicks me out of when it happens. Really really annoying. hopefully the new ROM will help.
Has anyone else been having this problem or found a solution. I've been trying to flash a new ROM this weekend, but can't stay in any apps long enough to prepare the phone for it. Titanium Backup and ROM Manager keep closing because of the launcher restarts. Not force closes, they just exit out and go back to the home screen which just keeps refreshing. I can't stay in Apps2Sd Pro long enough to move apps, can't stay in the market to update apps, and can't uninstall anything, I can't even stay in Astro long enough to do anything. It's driving me insane and I really want to make sure as many apps as I can are moved to the SD card and backed up to flash the new ROM. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[Help Needed] Apps won't restore or install after flashing rom [SOLVED!]

Well, my first venture into rom flashing hasn't been the most successful one as it's caused a really strange issue that a couple people on another thread have tried to help me solve, but I figure I had hijacked that thread long enough so this issue deserved it's own thread.
I rooted, unlocked bootloader, and installed TWRP v2.4.0.0 on Stock Android 4.1.1. Everything worked great. Until I flashed a rom. Now, I have been through wiping Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, Flashing the rom (I've tried 4 with the same exact issue), flashing Gapps... All seems to go well and it says "success" when I flash, and I reboot into system. Run the setup of Google. Everything seems great and working fine. Here's where the problem is. When Google Play Store starts downloading for restore, and I'm on a solid wifi connection, nothing downloads. I have also tried stopping the downloads and installing apps individually. When I do that, I receive the same error message over and over for any app:
Unknown error code during application install: "-24"
I've rebooted, wiped cache, dalvik cache. Nothing installs. Same error. I did somehow, some way, get Titanium backup to install after numerous tries... when I try to restore any of that backup it just hangs on the first app. It does not restore anything. No batch apps. No single apps. No app data.
The odd thing is, the first time I flashed a rom, it seemed to load up fine. Stupidly, when I was running Titanium Backup for a restore I was not paying attention to what I was restoring. I was restoring all apps and app data... It caused an issue and a bunch of force closes, as you can probably imagine. So I rebooted into recovery and wiped and reinstalled rom and gapps. And virtually nothing has installed since. I have wiped and reinstalled AOKP, PACman, Carbon, and CM to no avail. Nothing seems to solve my issue. I'd love to at the very least be able to regularly install apps from the Play Store. At this point I'm not even concerned with restoring app data if that's too much to ask. I just want to be able to use my phone normally again as this is my "daily driver". If I have to go back to 4.1.1, that would be fine with me. I just want to get back to normal. And I'll do whatever it takes to get there. Any help at all would be appreciated.

2 suggestions:
1) i think others have reported having issues with TWRP 2.4, so try 2.5 or 2.3.2.3
2) I think the error could be a lack of internal storage, so certainly try the "wipe internal storage" in TWRP (after making sure that your ROM/GApp files, backups (including Tibu) are saved to your external folder

Ok giving this a shot. I did notice that you had mentioned a different version of TWRP than I had. I will try the wiping internal storage before I install a different TWRP then if that doesn't work, TWRP. Gotta find the external folder. Unless you just mean anything that is on the actual SD card.

i would actually recommend installing TWRP 2.5 first.
never wipe external SD card.
if you have an app called Root Explorer, that works best.

Ok I'll try 2.5 then. And I wasn't gonna wipe the card, just was wondering if when you said external folder you were talking about the SD card. Root explorer works great.. if i could install it.
EDIT: Since I am away from my computer, I tried the multiple wipe method. Didn't change anything. So I will be changing TWRP versions later and will post an update.

You never mentioned using TWRP 2.4. DEFINITELY replace that. Also, just a thought. If you haven't already done so, try using the option to fix permissions. I'm fairly sure its an option in TWRP.

Back in business! Wow thank you all so much! What a pain it's been but without the help I'd have never guessed how to get this running as perfectly as it is now. Here's what worked for me:
Installed TWRP 2.5 (Instead of what I had, 2.4)
Then followed jco23's precise directions:
jco23 said:
- I use TWRP 2.3.2.3 (SS has been uninstalled via it's own app, not Tibu or the system awhile ago) - but TWRP 2.5 works just fine for others
- after downloading the ROM and GApps (or any file that I intended to flash for that matter), I always place the file on the mnt/external1 directory. I
m not sure if this will make a difference, but I recall it being an issue back on my Droid Charge days
- after flashing the files, does TWRP say successful?
- perhaps you do need to a double wipe of everything prior to flashing:
1) mount everything
2) wipe cache
3) wipe dalvik cache
4) wipe system
5) factory reset/wipe data
6) wipe internal storage (if you do this, make sure to change your TiBu backup folder to your external1 directory, or this will be gone too!!!!! also make sure that the system backup you made is on the external1 directory as well
7) reboot recovery

And it's working flawlessly. Able to download or restore anything from Gapps. Was able to restore some specific app data from Titanium Backup (did not want to ruin the phone again and do that full restore so I selected specific apps that I really wanted the data on).
Thanks to everyone who took the time to assist me and a special thanks to jco23 and netizenmt who were with me through this whole debacle, leading me through every possible fix they could think of. As for those of you that may be wondering which ROM I settled on... AOKP.
