Leaked beta Froyo 2.2 update download, instructions, and HelixLauncher user Warnings - Nexus One General

There is a thread with this info in it, but it is buried deep in over a hundred pages and I thought the warning for HelixLauncher bared having a new post.
Here is the link to download the update.
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip
Looks like that link is dead... here is a mirror
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/113487/signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip
And one more just in case the others go down.
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b1chb29/n/update-nexusone-FRF50-signed.zip
Warning!! If you use Helixlauncher, uninstall or remove its defaults. It will go into a Force Close loop, making the phone unusable without booting into recovery again and performing a factory wipe/reset.
How to flash the update, I used these steps and it worked fine, but remember, there is always the possibility to brick the phone.
1. Download file from link up there.
2. Rename the file to update.zip.
3. Note that if you're using Windows and don't have "show file extentsions" turned on in the file explorer you won't see a .zip. Just rename it to "update" (no quotes, of course) because it's already a zipped file.
4. Copy the update.zip file onto your microSD card.
5. With your Nexus One off, hold down the trackball and press the power button.
6. You'll be booted into a white screen with three Android robots on skateboards. Select "Bootloader."
7. On the next screen, select "Recovery."
8. Your phone will reboot, giving you a picture of the Android robot and an exclamation point inside a triangle.
9. Now press the power button and volume up button at the same time. It could take a couple of tries.
10. Now (using the trackball this time) choose "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and let things run their course.
Taken from the update-1 instructions on:
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-ma...your-nexus-one
Also, I don't think my phone rebooted own its own after the update. After a minute or two, I tried hitting power and power+vol up to get the menu and reset manually. During that time it reset and booted up fine. So I say give it a few minutes before trying to reboot after the update finishes.
Edit: a ton of threads have popped into existence about froyo, but I didn't see any with early warnings about Helixlauncher.... ah well, maybe this post can be helpful for someone out there.
Edit 2: From what I am seeing, AT&T phones are on a different build of Android than the T-mobile N1. Seems like if you have an AT&T version you are out of luck for right now. This update was meant for the demo devices given to the Press outlets around launch, before the AT&T phone existed.

thanks for this, just a quick question.
Is this ok to use on a nexus one in england? it's not usa only or something is it?
thanks

Can it be flashed over Cyanogen? I read somewhere that it couldn't...

If it is a US update then using it on a nexus one in England might not be a good idea, but I doubt it would hurt the phone, but some things might not work right.

I read somewhere, that another person had the same issue. Are you using stock recovery? Also, are you on the latest 2.1 update 1? I'm not sure the issue really. Try a search of the other threads, see if there is a solution.

same here... tried it twice with installation aborted each time. Redownloaded the file... renamed and copied to the sd card again.... same results.

Can someone post a link to HelixLauncher? Can't find it in the Market.
Thanks!

about the HELIXLAUNCHER:
there is NO NEED FOR WIPING everything! i had the same problem after updating and these force kills were really anoying.
here's what you have to do
1. remove your sim card (necessary because other wise your phone will reboot in safe mode - don't ask me why, but it did)
2. get into safe mode: (menu button long press while the X flashes on the load, give it a few tries, it vibrate long if it works)
3. delete helix
4. reboot
5. pray and thank me ;-)
worked for me!

Thats because the RUU has NONE of the fixes that damageless had put in to make things work like they should. Try flashing it.

it should be an update.zip
not exe
just download his newest ROM. name it update.zip
put it on your sdcard (root location)
boot into recovery (by holding down the home and power button at the same time)
wipe/factory reset
then flash (apply: update.zip)

[Guide] Fool Proof and Simple FroYo 2.2 "Test ROM" Guide for Rooted Phones

Download files and place on SD card:
update-nexusone-FRF50-noradio-signed.zip from Modaco.com (May 24: noradio files added - should work fine for T-Mo & AT&T!)
froyo-rooter-signed.zip from Cyanogen
Titanium Backup -> Backup all user apps
Turn off phone -> Hold Volume Down, then Press Power button
Enter Recovery
Backup/Restore -> Nand backup
Wipe if you have a Sense UI ROM (no wipe needed coming from Cyanogen)
Flash update-nexusone-FRF50-signed.zip
Reboot, you'll get Android-falling-out-of-box
It will reboot into Recovery, select Reboot again
It should boot into 2.2, yay!
You should still have root, but if you want BusyBox (or lost root somehow), Cyanogen has done it again! Go back into Recovery and flash froyo-rooter-signed.zip. Then Titanium Backup will work once again.

Thank you. This is awesome and super easy to execute. Thanks again.
Nice! thanks for the write up.
one thing that confuses me though, i have rooted my phone but have the stock rom (nadroid from cyanogen 506), will i be able to get the OTA when it rolls for the ATT version? Or only manual update for me?

I followed these steps (was running Cyanogen 5.0.6) and it works perfectly. I have the AT&T/Rogers version. I didn't wipe and all my apps/settings are intact!

"reinstall packages"???

I went ahead and ran the firmware update Last night. The progress bar went all the way through, but when it got to the end it said "update is fail." I don't know what to do. I booted into stock recovery and I'm wondering what will happen if I click "reinstall packages." Any chance this will undo whatever the firmware did? What will happen?

In the middle of rooting

I obtained root and rebooted so I could wipe and flash the Syndicate ROM. I had it on my SD Card (at least I sure thought I did). After wiping, I choose to flash a zip file from the SD card, and the ROM file isn't there. Now I can't boot, I can't apply a ROM. What's my best bet here?

Since you have cwm its no biggie. Just power down as ^^ and 3 finger to your recovery.

[Q] Mytouch 4G Gingerbread root and unbrick

Hey guys, about a week or two ago, I went to a T-Mobile store to upgrade to 2.3.4. I have been looking into rooting and loading CM7, but im not sure how to do it and what is the best way. I was thinking about doing it with ADB, but im just too chicken to try it. I can't afford to break this phone, so i have to be really careful. If you have any other better ideas as to how I could root 2.3.4, that would be awesome. Also, if you have found any way to unbrick it if it gets bricked somehow in the process, that would be great too. I am an experienced hacker, and am working on starting to develop apps for Android and Apple. Thanks guys, I really need your help.
There is no root for 2.3.4 yet

I am. I'm not well versed enough to do the downgrade-via-ADB thing. All I want to do is temproot, freeze the bloatware on the stock 2.3.4. I'm not interested in flashing a ROM or having permanent root. From what I understand, this isn't possible without downgrading.

No, it isn't possible. You have to downgrade and install pre-rooted 2.3.4.
It's not really that hard. You could start by trying to set up ADB, and if you get a working environment - you'll know that you're good to go with the guide.
Sorry to raise a dead thread, but I was just wondering if anyone had come across a 2.3.4 root method. I am trying to root my fiancee's device and seem to be getting nowhere.
Apologies also if this has already been addressed.
Thanks guys =]
The rooting method for 2.3.4 involves downgrading to 2.2.1. That's the way it has been, that's most probably the way it'll stay, for a long time, possibly indefinitely.
