Running Windows 3.1 on G1 (5/16/10) - G1 General

I found this site while browsing around and it looked fun, just to try. Heres the link should anyone else care to be the envy of all of your friends when you can say "I can run windows on my phone" (Not that you would really want to...)
http://androidblog.therevolve.com/?p=12

Why would someone want to do that?

Tell me when it runs Microsoft Office v7 and Windows 95.

great
i love this sort of stuff,
its not about how well it will run or whatever - its just the fact you CAN do it !!
ill find some time to try this next week

on photo at blog is a milestone, not G1 ..

For the OP that didnt read....:
"I installed it on my Droid today and experimented with simple stuff such as running Doom, Heretic and such."

False information in the title here, I tagged it for close just imo.

And explain how the title is false?

He said on G1 but the article was on how to get it on the droid.

Nice job, ya it said ON MY DROID on the website--not an idiot, but i tested it and it works for G1, which i said in the OP

Android DosBox....yes!
I may be finally able to get X-Wing working!

hahah awsoomeee

Guess he's ok, huh?

Windows 95 is running on my phone using adosbox :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEHqKTXpSR0
The adosbox port is used to run it was found on the adosbox message board and includes a virtual keyboard (which is very useful as I don't have a physical one on my Xperia X10).

Can't have it all I guess? (Not really a rant thread)

Hello xda-ers!
I have been stalking around, tasting everybody's cooking for a couple of weeks now, and i have got to get something off my chest.
I did search, I do realize that what I am looking for can not be made and that its no one's fault (I might be giving htc a meaningful look right now).
I like a whole lot of roms and chefs here, I really do, but the rom I'm after seems to not exist - one of two options:
1. A hero rom with all the eyecandy, that's donut based for compatibility with newer apps like goggles and the like.
2. An Eclair rom that has video and youtube working.
And so I would like to ask of you wizzies, is there light at the end of the tunnel? Are things comming around? How do you see it?
Correct me if I'm wrong, hardware-ish the mytouch is 36 MB of ram shorter then a hero and a has a lesser camera, but its not like the hero is running its os on its last bits of ram or anything so basically what the hero can do the mytouch can do, no? Is it safe to assume that when the hero\magic gets an update (and I do hope that it does) someone could pull over some driver support for eclair or something?
Thank you all so much for all your hard work, you guys are the reason I love smartphones so much, I'm dirt poor but i promise I'll buy you guys a round of beer once I get out of college
Its a matter of time bro. Be batient. A month ago, none of the eclair roms had camera. Now they all do. A month before that none of the eclair roms had N1 voice keyboard. Now they all do. God knows what some of these amazing roms will have and do a month from now. [/good deed for the year]
Love the FAQ sig lol

1. The devs aren't the ones making the actual hero, they just make hero work with our phones. They can't just say "I want you to be donut", and it be donut. Htc decided to skip donut, and the devs can't do much about that. They can however give you 2.0 hero which is scattered about the forum.
2. Drivers, drivers, drivers. You know, the thing that appears in almost every first post for this problem

As I've said, I realize that.
My point is that apperently you can't cook rosie\sense\whatever onto a 1.6 rom without htc (Ref: "I might be giving HTC a meaningful look") and at the same time you can cook it onto a 2.0 rom - which means broken video drivers.
I'm sure there's a good reason for it, and this is not a rant, just needed to let steam out I guess.

"if" you had searched you could have found answers to both of your questions... and maybe posted in the correct section.
maybe that "I might be giving HTC a meaningful look" should be turned into "i actually searched and posted in the Q&A section or the I didn't read before posting..."
No offence but seriously if you would have searched you would have found those 2 answers in almost every thread that had to do with hero or eclair...

I think someone leaked an HTC branded Eclair ROM with the "rosie/sense/whatever," and that's why you see it cooked into a 2.0 ROM.

It went off topic at the same rate the iPad went from wanted to ridiculed. What's so bad about that?
Well back on topic/kinda...
Do we know for sure that htc will release the necessary drivers for video playback/camera? It sounds like some people are positive we'll get them eventually...I switched back to donut because I like being able to watch youtube, but its amazing how far along eclair roms have come, and mad props to NCommander for reverse engineering the camera drivers. Without him we'd still have no camera at this point. But I was just wondering if its confirmed or not that we will indeed get those drivers from htc one day.
Well, T-Mobile is teasing us with an Eclair update for our phones. We shall see.
What I would REALLY like is a ROM that is smooth and as responsive and the one on the iPhone. Doesn't need fancy apps, just the basic things like Messaging, Phone, Browser, camera/camcorder, apps of course. Anyone else think the same? It's what I have been looking for , for a long time

Dual-Boot HTC HD2 Windows Mobile/Android

Hey I am new to flashing. I have changed the roms on g1's, and on the nexus one per different youtube vidoes and stuff i have read in this forum.
Yesterday i purchased the HD2 and to my horror found out that it was running on Windows Mobile (WTF). So i have been loking around and I saw that in the past the forum has been able to get Touch Pro 2 that run on WM6.5 to dual boot into android.
So I am hoping that the same can be done with the HD2. So is the HSPL2 listed in this forum the beginning steps to this process or what? Has anyone yet setup the HD2 to run on android?
I know this is wordy but I just want to make it understood that I am new and I want to learn and that I have the desire to get android on my HD2.
thanks any suggested reading is welcome as the steps to get android on this awesome phone that HTC FUBAR'd with WM6.5
The HD2 cannot run android at this time.

No, it's not quite there at this time. However, while I understand your opinion, I don't think HTC "FUBAR'd" at all. I've had a few Android devices and this phone is AMAZING, even with WM.
this has been discussed already at length.. if you look in the ROMS section of the forum you'll find it ..
And it is NOT going to happen soon..
Android on the HD2 will be amazing! Hopefully they can get it ported by summer to compete with the HTC EVO.

...this is not true,
There is an engineer at the local Tmobile call center dual booting Android and winmo. He runs Android off of the card itself. The phone that is dual booting is at the kiosk at the LaPlaza mall in Mcallen TX and has been used as their demo phone.
How is he doing it? I have no idea, but hes told myself and a Tmobile sales buddy that he'll help us out with it.
So, you purchased the phone without realizing its a WM phone, and have the balls to complain, all because you didnt read, and now are asking if you can put android on it...lazy much?
I suppose you want someone to flash it for you too, or better yet start another thread asking how to do that...
Didn't you see the windows mobile on the box...

You're saying he's booting android on a hd2? I doubt it. Are you sure its not a TP2? There is an andriod port for the TP2.
I'm not sure how you purchased the phone without knowing the underlying OS, but I'm guessing you bought it in the US for Tmobile. If that is the case, and I'm guessing it is, then you can't flash any ROMs for it yet because of the different SPL.

I seriously doubt this. Maybe you had it confused with an HD or a TP2, but I doubt xda wouldn't know about this...especially since it's most likely to originate here. A picture to prove this would be great, but I don't expect it.

News to me! I've seen it running on other devices, but even then it's beta, with various functionality still unavailable, WIFI etc.
If you wanted Android, a little research before hand should and would have been wise, i.e. waiting for the EVO to be released.
I like WinMo 6.5. It may not be as pretty as Android or iPhone OS (without the Sense gui which is quite lovely imho) but it's a very versatile and an incredibly powerful tool in the hands of the right user. If you're in a business environment, using Microsoft equipment, exchange servers etc, there is not an more efficient handheld device to carry in you pocket (again, imho).

That is not windows phone 7 or desktop windows 7 it is Windows embedded CE 7 - used mostly on industrial devices. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Embedded
Cotulla is really a very skillful guy. Everybody talks of android and ubuntu and I think embedded CE would be also a good OS to try on leo. it is similar to desktop Windows but can be used on small devices. bravo cotulla.
and we need Leo Windows Embedded CE section now!
No way it's a fake. cotulla wouldn't mess with us like that .That port is something I would be defiantly interested in. oman just think windows mobile, windows 7, and android . I would be singing anything thing your phone can do mine can do better!

getting peoples hopes up for what exactly? first of all this is something i found n wanted to share...im so tired of all you idiots *****ing about NAND. Give it a rest NAND would set android back 5 steps as far as usability.. bc all new drivers need to be written. instead of being ignorant why dont we all just appreciate what we have...and secondly if cotulla or anyone had a release it will come directly from them not from some other member...so jammie_1989 and anyone else ...IF U HAVE NOTHING POSITIVE TO ADD THEN JUST KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT ..THANK U

Total agree!
Its nice, but it has nothing to do with Andorid!
Remember where we are: HD2 Android Development!
regardless of the terrible placement of this thread...
that is impressive, and i'd actually believe it's possible. win7 embedded could probably be loaded on an sd card for the leo. so long as the most basic standard ms drivers work, it'd at least get to desktop. embedded 7 will completely ignore devices which haven't been preconfigured with a driver. just makes me wonder how much of the device functions after loading up embedded.

[Q] SoPhone ROM Port?

Well, I dunno if someone would be able to acquire a ROM dump for the SoPhone, or if they already have, but it would be cool to run this on my Evo.
Android 2.2 with a perfect iPhone skin. I know, I love Android better than iOS, but I really love the way iOS looks better. But I am still an Android die-hard. :3
So, has anyone ever tried, or no? And yeah, I realize all of the work that would have to be done with translating, fixing up graphics for Evo's display, ect.
P.S. I had a video link, but cannot add it until I have 8 posts.
EDIT: I feel stupid now. Apparently it is not running under Android 2.2, like many people said it did. But then people say it does. I am confused. >.<

I have been using MIUI for weeks now, and to be honest, I like it. But, all the iPhone themes I found are not that great. They are either poorly themed, not complete, or both.
