100$ Port Credit - EVO 4G General

http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...rs-porting-their-numbers-from-other-carriers/
Can someone weigh in on this? I was talking to a friend, wishing that cellphone companies would offer some sort of incentive to switch carriers. I found this just now and was wondering what anyone knew about this credit and/or any incentives for switching carriers. Since I currently have an iPhone something like this would be a boon.
EDIT: Also how does the phone number porting work. If I want to take my AT&T number with me, do I have to contact AT&T first and/or cancel my AT&T plan prior to signing up for the EVO with Sprint. I'd rather minimize downtime.
EDIT: NVM that. Found the info http://www.fcc.gov/cib/consumerfacts/numbport.html That's an easy process.

That would be nice, as I'm coming from T-mobile.

Welp, just got out of a chat with a Sprint CSA on the website. Apparently I'm elligible for the $100 port credit. I'm coming from AT&T.
That'll be nice.

I spoke to a sprint rep and was told the so called port credit was in the form of the $150 you get off the price of the phone. So the evo is 450-150 to get down to the $300 price minus the 100 mir for the final $200 for new customers.

This rep misunderstood or lied to you. The 150$ is for anyone who signs a 2 year contract regardless of whether you come from another carrier, or are already on Sprint.

I called specifically asking about any $100 credit for porting over from T-Mobile. They told me that there WAS an incentive being offered to port over but it expired a few weeks ago. The only "credit" available is this $150 discount.
Anyone have concrete info on this?

I talked to a Sprint rep, and they said I would be elligible for it on June 4th. Either way, who cares. When you get it, throw your number in the site and see what happens!

ive been reading its only for business customers but I am definitely gonna try for it

Heres some help guys. After you port your number(s) you have 72 hours to go here:
http://sprintportcredit.com/
What doesn't make sense is the credit for one number per month. I will call when June 4th comes.

I don't buy it.
that website looks MIGHTY fishy to me!
I think they are fishing for people's cellnumbers and email addresses.

Yeah I perhaps should have specified when I wanted people to weigh in. I thought it was fishy and that's what I wanted people to weigh in on. I'm sure the manager at the mobile section of best buy will know if they have something like that. If not I'll ask a Sprint Rep.

WTF so you're saying sprintportcredit.com is a phishing site? How are you able to tell who that domain is registered to? I called Sprint and even told them the website and the rep stated "Yeah go there after you port your number".
What does the scammer have to gain by going to that website and mistakenly entering your number?

Ive asked several Sprint reps in person at different stores about this and they all say the credit is for business customers only.

It says so right on that site as well.

Well I'll call the Sprint Porting Department and demand that they give me a porting credit. They'll want my business so in the end the customer wins.

Just curious, why do you feel you're entitled to the credit if you dont meet the criteria for it?

Because I'm willing to port 4 numbers from AT&T to Sprint. They need the business and they will give me a credit. I work for AT&T so I know how these things work. I will also be getting a CORP discount from one of my relatives on my account who works for Bank of America. It's a 36% discount. I believe I fit the criteria.

From the sprintportcredit.com eligibility requirements:
Service credit request must be made at https://www.sprintportcredit.com within 72 hours from the port-in activation date for your Service Credit Request. Service credit is available only to eligible corporate-liable accounts. Promo requires 2-year contract agreement outside of hierarchy/special contract terms. Must port in from an active wireless line and remain active on original account number for 61 days in order to receive full service credit. You should continue paying your bill while waiting for your service credit to avoid service disruption and possible credit delay.
Credits apply to all devices that have an associated mobile number and come through the port process. Promotion excludes port ins from providers currently associated with Sprint. Excludes all Individual Liable, Seasonal Standby, and Special Government Rate Plans less than $10 (e.g., U3169, U3169H, U3169D, C1266).
Unless you're activating 4 lines in your business' name, the it would seem that you dont. But good luck to you, it never hurts to try!
EDIT: I'm not trying to be a ****, just pointing out the actual terms for this credit. If you can pull it off, more power to ya.

Didn't someone already point that website out as a phishing site? Someone stated that sprintportcredit.com wasn't an official Sprint site.

yes, but that site is the basis of this thread. Look at the first link the OP posted.

tmobile unlimited loyalty plan is nationwide now

tmobile's unlimited loyalty plan, which was only available in the Sanfransico area is now nationwide as of march 02 2009. those who qualify are people that have been tmobile customers for longer than 22 months and have a good payment history.

Yeah, been that way for a couple months now
I had it, now I dont see it on mine when I sign on... I called Tmo the other day for my G1 acting up and it asked if I wanted to do it and I said later. Is it still in affect?
Ended up not being cheaper for me.
Seems like every time T-mobile offers an upgrade, it cost me an extra 10 bucks. I guess if I didn't have myfaves for both phones, then it would prolly be in my best interest to have it.

not true...i've been in good standing with t-mo for 7 years+. when i called last month to inquire, they said it was only open to "select" customers...even today, when i log onto the website, the unlimited plan still shows $99.99. wtf?? i have been with these fools since 2001!
i've sent an email to t-mo just now. i'll advise as soon as i hear back.

I work in a store and have run into this issue. I thought it was people who have been with us for 22 months or more but I guess there are some hidden factors there. The only thing I can think of is if you had your service suspended. Other than that I can't think of anything else that would effect it.

i don't think my service has been suspended any time in the past 4+ years...i'm wondering if it's because i don't ever use anywhere near my current plan's 1500 minutes.
here's the log of my chat session with T-Mo CS:
me: can you tell me why i don't qualify for the "unlimited loyalty" plan? i have been with t-mobile for nearly 8 years.
CSR: Today, this offer is available only to selected customers.
CSR: T-Mobile runs promotional offers and test offers that are available to different groups of customers, and at this time, your account does not qualify.
CSR: In the future, your account may be eligible for similar type offers. For some of our test offers, whether or not we extend these offers beyond the initial qualified group depends on response from our customers.
CSR: The exact criteria used for the promotion is not available as many different pieces of criteria were considered when selecting the specific audience available for this promotion.
me: so there are no specifics as to why i don't qualify after more than 7 years as a t-mobile customer?
CSR: This is a promotional offer only available for a short time
CSR: Based on the response to this offer, we hope to extend it to a wider audience in the future.
me: thank you for your help.

i did change my number, but it was 5 years ago when i moved to california. i just edited my previous message to add the chat session i had with a csr. it seems qualification is random...like i said, i go nowhere near my plan minutes now (1500 for $49.99) so i'm not really missing out on anything...it's just...if they're gonna reward people for their "loyalty", i certainly want to be recognized for my 80 months of loyalty!!

My understanding is that this is the unlimited Loyalty plan is not available to business/corporate lines (which is what your account is if you are getting a discount through your employer.) It is somewhat hard to get positive confirmation of this though. The eligibility requirements on the web are vague. I have been w/ T-Mobile since 2001 and I was offered the option.

ahh...that makes sense...in january my company sent an email to all associates telling us we can receive a 10% discount on our t-mo bill. i called and gave the CSR the code. i bet they then switched me to a corporate account.
things are getting clearer...but why couldn't the CSR tell me that today?
sounds like they were just giving you a standard response without even really looking at your account.

I feel the same way. I like the idea of having unlimited minutes but I have more than enough with myfaves and my 600 minutes right now. I almost never touch the 600 in a month with Nights and weekends on there.
I think, if you believe i'm so "loyal" and you want to offer me a "deal" make it something cheaper than what I already use.

finally, a "non standard" response. i received an email today telling me that i do, in fact, qualify for the unlimited loyalty plan, but i would lose my corporate discount. then the CSR said she reviewed my usage and recommended that i stay at my current plan. she told me that i'd save $10.70/mo if i do NOT switch.

An EPIC Sprint Employee Referral Deal!

Hi all,
Welcome to Epic release day! If you haven't left the house yet to stand in line at the local Sprint store here is your chance to save a little money!
I'm a Sprint employee and the Epic is now available on the employee referral plan. (I'm an IT guy, not sales. I get nothing for doing this but the satisfaction of helping out other people ).
Here's all you need from me:
email: sal<dot>conti<at>sprint<dot>com
CID: 646
www.sprint.com/sero
Hurry while supplies last (you can also get the EVO there too, but supplies are running out!)
Please see the web page for terms and conditions. Offer is only valid on new customers or current customers adding a new line to their account.
ENJOY!
I checked it out, but it showed no discount, still $349
Wow, $249 after a $100 mail-in rebate. That's one hell of a deal, Sal.
He is referring you to the plans...
The problem is, you can't become a Premier customer on any of those plans.
They look like good prices for the plans, but I already get 25% off through my company.
Actually you do qualify for the Sprint Premier plan with the 4G phone plans.
Do Everything Plus customers qualify for Sprint Premier?Sprint Premier is our unique loyalty program giving qualified customers free gifts, discounts and upgrade eligibility every 12 months, among other perks. New Everything Plus customers will qualify for Sprint Premier after they have been a Sprint customer for 6 months and have maintained, for at least 3 months, a minimum monthly recurring charge of $69.99 on a single line or $99.99 on a family/share plan. For more information on Sprint Premier, click here.
But you automatically get an upgrade every 12 months with the referral program whether you spend the $69.99 or not.
How frequently can I upgrade my device?
Everything Plus customers are part of Sprint's New For You program and qualify for a discount after only 12 months. The amount of the discount depends on the length of your contract and the number of months you have had your current device. For more information on the New for You program, click here.
Like I said, the program details are on the webpage.
(for the record, as an employee I pay MORE for some phones than people off the street. And I can't even buy the Epic or Evo yet because of demand. I'm giving you better than I get myself )
...
Quick question: I already have a line of service, but I'm going in today to get a new 2 year agreement and upgrade to the Epic. Can I use this deal?
Thanks,
-Rob

Can't get "Plus" plan
Hi,
First off I'd like to express my thanks for allowing people to use your employee referral information. It's appreciated!
I went to the Sprint store (San Leandro, CA) on launch day armed with Russ's info thinking I could get the Plus plan for me and my Fiancé. The store clerk said that the "Plus" plans do not offer the Epic 4G and he could not sign me up for a "Everything data Plus" family plan. He assured me the account can be changed after the fact into a "Plus" account. Reluctantly I signed up for the regular plan after repeated assurances that the plan can be turned into a "Plus" variant further down the line.
Now how do I actually make this happen? I'm assuming it is actually possible as I thought given the nature of this forum topic. Can one of you nice Sprint people give me some advice?
Thanks!

[Q] Upgrade and switch lines through LetsTalk

I have had an exhausting morning trying to figure this out. I posted a few times in the Epic Touch prices thread but am not getting any answers. I want to upgrade the phone on my wife's line on our family plan and switch it to my line (I really want the epic touch and she wants my epic). I've spoken with 2 chat representatives and 2 phone reps. Both chat reps said the phone must remain active on the line it was upgraded on for 6 months. I asked them if they just meant the services, and they said "no" the phone itself. After chat session 1 I called in. Representative said it was ok as long as any service add-ons remained active for 6mo. I washed and repeated the whole process and came up with the same answers from another chat rep and another phone rep. Chat no, phone yes. Does anyone have experience doing this at Letstalk?
I think I found my answer. After multiple calls, I got confirmation over the phone that it is not possible to switch the phone following an upgrade to a different line. 3 sales representatives said it could be done as long as the services remained active. I asked for someone who could give me written confirmation and she stated that it was not possible within the first six months. I stated and restated several scenarios (wife doesn't like phone, gets broken no insurance then fixed, etc) and she said they would all be subject to a Equipment Subsidy Fee of $250. I hope not many of you were planning on doing this like I was. I guess it is Best Buy or RadioShack for me. Wonder if I will have to pay 200(+36 for activation) vs. 124. Damn it.
If you read LetsTalks terms and conditions to their discounts, it says that switching lines and what not "Does not apply to Sprint plans" Answer your question? Ill find it again in just a sec.
Edit -
Copied from LetsTalks website.
*Please note: the following provisions regarding deactivation, equipment swapping and account termination DO NOT apply to Sprint purchases, even where stated otherwise.
*Failure to maintain service for 181 days may subject the purchaser to a deactivation charge equal to the difference in price paid for the phone and the price of the phone if purchased without contract, if such action results in the loss of carrier commissions by LetsTalk.com.
*All of the above stipulations are solely in the interests of ensuring that LetsTalk.com earn an expected commission from Sprint, it is this commission which is allowing LetsTalk.com to offer this discount.

The CS Rep I talked to on the phone said that it doesn't apply to Sprint and that I could do it.
I had 3 reps on phone confirm it was possible. 1 phone and 3 chat reps said it wasn't. This is even after I showed them the wording "provisions DO NOT apply to Sprint purchases". We might have a class action if they charge us all 250. jk

at&t offers a discounted monthly bill

i know people are aware that at&t offers discounts via college's and/or employer's..but if those options aren't available to you, you can still get a discount!!
for new customers:
10% off monthly recurring charges
Waived Activation Fee
Free Shipping, and
Heavily discounted handsets
for already existing customers:
10% off monthly recurring charges
Waived upgrade fees (weekends)
Discounted handsets (for upgrades)
Free Shipping
to get the discount:
google student rate and go to their site.
their wireless promos are on the front page (you can't miss it).
go through them and you can obtain a discount phone & monthly bill!!
is there any way to go to an at&t location and still apply the discount via student rate?
Most carriers offer something for a lot of companies/schools. Just ask.
I've even heard people getting discounts over the phone just by asking nicely even if they don't qualify.
I have 25% with Sprint..
I get a 15% "discount" for being a union member.

That doesn't seem very legit. I'd go into a store directly and ask for a student discount. The rep I talked to the other day said he didn't know if it counted for community colleges, but he said it did count for uni. Probably you just need a .edu email and then it's good, but yeah, ask.

Sounds fishy..
Can people confirm this is legit and isn't gonna screw me?

i applied with student rate myself and i would call them for your own security and reassurance for yourself.
also check out their website. it's legit. but once again, check it out for yourself and see what your thoughts are on it.
just google studentrate
hope this helps!!
it's better than not having a discount at all.
it's worth a try.
I apply discounts for customers all day and never have I ever seen that before.
Try your luck here with your employee/school email.

I hope you know that they could easily sabotage your AT&T account and steal your identity with just that little piece of information that they asked for.
student rate offers a ton of discounts, not just cell phone deals.
it's a pretty good site to get a variety of deals.
great source.

my school gives 10% and the paperwork is lengthy..
i went through student rate and it was just easier.
i've purchased through them before so i'm comfortable.
i haven't heard anything bad about them. just read reviews.
I just called customer service and they said that they don't offer student plans...but then again...it was customer service. Hahaha.
i believe in order to get the discount you have to do it on student rate's website. they have a promo code or a link.
It depends if your school has a bsuiness account with AT&T or not.

you can apply them to a family plan but they limit you on the amount of lines that get the discount.
for anyone who cannot obtain a discount from their school or work.. it's better than nothing. right?
Discounts first line mrc
