Will you get the EVO right away? - EVO 4G General

I want the EVO and will likely get it right away, but early adopters always get burned, I'm thinking of waiting a little bit to see what people think about the evo, then maybe get it.
What about you?

preorder
early hopefully.

Why would you wait to see what people think of it? Who cares what they think Phones are subjective anyways.
I am getting one the day it lets me. Pre-order.
I hope it does come with Froyo instead of Eclair that would be bonus!

If you don't end liking it you can always return it. I'll most likely try pre ordering it so I can have it day one but if that doesn't work out because of supply constraints it won't be a big deal.

If the next iPhone has a dual core processor, I won't be getting the Evo.
That being said, I won't be getting the iPhone either. In such a case, I'll simply wait until HTC fires back with a dual-core phone of their own.
Otherwise, I'll be getting the Evo shortly after launch.

Yea, I'm waiting to see what Apple is releasing for sure before I buy the EVO. From the leaks though I think I'm pretty much settled. It's only a 2 year thing... There will always be a bigger and better phone a month away but I feel like the EVO will be powerful enough to keep me happy for the extent of my contract.

Here's a nice bit of information for you; if you get the Unlimited Data or Simply Everything plan with Sprint for your two year contract, which you probably would, considering smartphones eat up a fair amount of data, you become a Sprint Premier member. This grants you several perks, one of the most significant ones being that you're allowed to upgrade your phone after a year, halfway into your contract. That means you'll be able to have two phones throughout the length of your two-year contract .

Even more of a reason to just get the EVO now! Haha. If someone else waits 6 months for the next phone to come out, 6 months after them I'll have an even better one.

Thinking about it...but not unless it is released with 2.2...which does not seem to be the case as of now.
I can't afford to wait 6 months for Sprint to release an update....

AOSP?

Would it be possible to build an AOSP build just off the source? Thereby bypassing the need for sprint to release an update...

I know many people are curious as to the new Iphone 4(whatever) but the problem that I see with it is that a Dual Processor won't draw me to it. A higher resolution screen isn't that big of a deal. You mean the pictures are good enough for a phone now? They are already very good. So a few more pixels on the same size screen is my problem. If they had a 4.0/4.1 inch screen then it would be a contender as I have an upgrade path for the Iphone now. Unless a surprise announcement happens and the Iphone 4 has a larger screen the processing power will not attract me as the Snapdragon is very good at the moment. I don't play games with it so the Dual processor won't be a big thing either. I know what the TFT screen looks like and its very nice with sharp contrasts and good colors. The reviews for the HD2 has proven that. I had the HD2 as well so i know first hand.
I will probably buy my phone outright due to the fact that by years end there will be a LOT of choices! Dell has some pretty nice devices coming out, I am sure HP will release WebOS based phones, HD3 most likely will arrive with WP7 and Froyo will be tweaked by then.
I am sure someone will come out something that will bring the 1Ghz to 1.5Ghz or something by then.
Lots of great stuff coming down the pipe though. I hope that Sprint's coverage does it for me and that Clear will continue to gain popularity before LTE.
I read that Clear can change their networks over to LTE if they needed to with software updates. The hardware is compatible. I wonder what it would take for the 4G in the Sprint phones to accept LTE. Hopefully software updates.
It reminds me of the Bluray vs HD-DVD. Hate to see LTE take over it all. But if its compatible with upgrades then I am onboard

I wanz A Evo 4g!!!!! Day one!!

Not flaming, but this cracks me up. You "can't afford to wait 6 months for Sprint to release an update" to a handset that isn't even out yet? Does the potential lack of an update to 2.2 hinder your ability to do anything that you are able to afford to do now, or is it simply because you just don't like to wait for things to come?

with root access + kernel source from htc it would be completely plausible. Will it happen? Probably eventually.
The HTC Incredible source is already released so things are looking positive. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

How much faster do we want these things to go? For gamers okay maybe but who wants to play games on a 4.3" screen? Well not me at least.
If the phone is as fast as my incredible or a little faster with Froyo which it seems that it should be with the improvements mentioned already then it will suffice.

Looks at Sprint's update rate on existing Android phones they have...
2.1 is out for about say 6 months now? all their phone are still running 1.5 and 1.6 and the update delays keep coming.
2.2 will bring flash 10.1 to the game which is going to completely change the game for me, if Sprint is not going to release this phone with 2.2 out the door, you won't see an update for at least 3-4 months as this is how HTC and Sprint operates (and in fact most OEMs). Once they release a phone to the market they start working on the next thing and releasing updates for phones that are already on the market and are getting old with every day that passes becomes super low priority for them.
I have the N1 now and the only thing i want form the EVO is the 4.3'' screen. but i am not sure if i can switch in return for super slow / no software updates.
I certainly hope they plan on releasing it with 2.2 out the door as Google is about to announce 2.2 this month.

pre ordered mine last week
i had sold my nexus one n dropped tmobile n grabbed a hero to use til i get my evo i happened to be at radio shack wen i got the email bout the pre order. so i pre ordered the evo b4 the ppl at "the shack" even heard about it so i was told im the first one on the list in massachussetts i cant wait it kinda sucks goin from my nexus to the hero but its all worth it for the evo and the 4g network the last i heard it was gna be released on the 6th at 200 i hope thats true i cant wait

Phones can always go faster. It's just like people who like fast cars, except better, because we actually get more functionality out of the phones the more powerful they become.
In ten to twenty years, there WILL be phone applications that will have people wondering 'How in the hell did people live with single core 1 GHz processors on their phones?! That's ridiculous!'

Right away
I am definitely getting the EVO right away, but then I will regret it in 9 months when the new phone comes out on sprint or we are still waiting for FroYo... oh well......

Who here is going to move to the EVO when its relesed or shortly there after?

With all the excitement over this device who here is going to jump **** and move to the HTC EVO? I love my little Hero but this phone is awesome! I will probably just give the hero to my lady, but I'm worried development will halt after this is released. This has been a great learning device as we got it rooted to quickly and customization came shortly there after. Id like to here your opinions on the Hero and EVO. Exciting times for Sprint users

Mine's in November, but I might bight the bullet to avoid a root-patch
Im not a fan of the size, So I will hold out for something better.
If the N1 drops on Sprint before the EVO even has a date and/or price then I will pick it up (the Nexus). If the EVO has a date and price when then happens, well, then it will depend.
I love all the cool phones dropping every 6 months anymore, but wow this is getting expensive!
If it were rooted and had real hardkeys, I'd be at Best Buy at 10am on October 9th to buy one & celebrate my 12-month anniversary. To be honest, I don't really like either the Nexus One or the Evo. The hypothetical phone I really want is an "Incredible" that's rooted and can take a minimally-tweaked N1 ROM almost straight from git and flash without drama. Then I could have my hardkeys, trackball, 850x480 display, enjoy SenseUI for now, but freely ditch it for NexusLand the moment I feel like it's getting in the way and limiting my upgrade options.
4G would be nice, but as it stands I barely have usable data service inside my house (if I disable 'hybrid' and try to force EV-DO, it flat-out doesn't work about 20% of the time, and is unreliable another 20-30%). Assuming WiMax propagation & signals are on par with Sprint's CDMA2000 service, I have every reason to suspect that my neighborhood will be as "urban fringe" for 4G as it is for EV-DO.
(edit)Actually, I take that back. I think part of my problem is the fact that my house shares a Sprint tower with a major regional mall 2 blocks away. Late at night, and in the middle of the afternoon on most weekdays, EV-DO works fairly well. But 4-9pm, and weekends... (((shudder))).
I plan to buy the EVO the day it hits the market. My Hero isn't eligible for the upgrade until December, but my wife and daughter are due April 1. I plan to have one of them delay upgrading so I can use their upgrade to get the EVO, then give them my Hero.
This is one nice benefit of having a plan with 5 phones. I usually have a phone ready for upgrade every 4 months or so.
Not me, I think it sucks.
Ohhh, I almost kept a straight face on that!
I live in Austin, which is crawling with WIMAX. I have been wanting a higher res vid cam. I kept playing with the HD demo here at the GDGT party a week ago (which has a similar sized screen). I've been seriously eyeing the Sprint Overdrive myfi hotspot. HDMI output??? Hello!!
There are just too many things that this phone has that I want. I am not rich but will be getting it even if I have to work nights to save up for it!
I'll be dropping it on my employee line ASAP. Hopefully they won't restrict it on us.
i wont give a shizz if my hero its able to upgrade or anything ill get it no matter what
Will you move to the EVO sub-forum with questions regarding a phone that's not labeled in this sub-forum when it is released?? (which was created 12 hours ago, and before this post?)
lol.. just playing
Since no large screen keyboard devices are coming ill most likely grab the evo.
What i really wanna know is if the great dev support we got for our heroes will be making the move to the EVO?
Flipz? Darch? Toast? etc?
I know Gbhil mentioned he will be switching between the Evo and the Hero due to size.
ill pass on it tbh...the thing is huge and i won't use half of the features. besides the fact i bet the price tag will be about $600+ without an upgrade fee applied.

Not being a ****, but have you done research yet?

You've seen the hardware issues?(albeit 99% fixed)
Make sure you like this phone please... Try the **** out of it for your 7 days...
I just got my Hero less than 2 months ago, so I'll stick with it until upgrade time, by then they should have even more killer phones avail

How many moving to EVO, and when does it launch?

I just wanted to know how many of us are moving to the evo and is there an exact date on when that bad boy is coming out? I hate to say goodbye to my hero I never learned how to cook my own rom for it lol
I will certainly be moving, we need more horsepower! The latest I've heard was "Summer 2010" with another person saying possibly late June.. but that's 100% speculation.
yeah we do need more horse power, im gonna miss my hero
My wife is dying to get rid of her palm pre so once the evo comes out I'll be switching to it and she is gladly **** canning her pre for my hero. I love my phone but it's android I love not the hero. Huge screen, fast processor, 720p video etc... No way I can pass that up.
I will be moving on to the EVO when my upgrade comes on August. My wife, like Aridon's wife, will also be tossing her PRE (thank god) to switch to the EVO.
yea my hubby is all about the EVO and he has a blackberry. He was going to breakdown and by the Moment, since I have the Hero, but when he heard about the EVO, thats all he can talk about! I'll probably get one next year. Ive invested waay too much time in my Hero to just chuck it! lol
yes i know what you mean i also invested alot of time in this hero, what pisses me off the most is phones get out dated so fast, right when the hero launches they are already talking about a new phone, then we sign a two year agreement so we cant get another good discount on the new phone, which therefore we must buy full price, its a brilliant marketing scheme, ugh i hate sprint
eBaying the hero and buying an evo.
The rumored release dates are June 6th and June 13th. I am definitely going to be getting it day one. Hopefully Sprint lets you pre-order so it isn't sold out like the Incredible.
I've already started my Evo savings fund. I love my hero, but the Evo brings so much more to the game.
im not going to get the evo. My upgrade wont be in until October of next year and the phone itself looks kinda bulky. I just hope that when the evo comes out the development of the hero doesn't die.
I hope that I am able to stand by my initial "I'll buy it once it has Root" - But I am starting to feel the pressure. damn you all and your peer pressure!!!

Wow, I am in the exact same boat, my wife likes the idea of the Pre but hates the battery life, how it just stops getting emails and txts, it struggles to get a good internet connection, etc. She is eligible for an upgrade so I think I will get the EVO for me and give her my Hero.
Aside from Sprint's 4G, the Evo will be outdated immediately when it comes out.
Android 2.2 Froyo will be out. And we know we have to wait up to a year to get it updated.
And snapdragon?? Oh please! We are getting 2 dual core 1 ghz processors with significantly better graphics with the Tegra 2. Heck, even Apple will release their weControlPhone 4th Generation with their A4 chip, which is nearly a Tegra 2, supposedly with dual core 700mhz-1ghz depending on who you believe and a much better gpu too, although half the capabilities of the Tegra 2.
My next phone will have to be Tegra 2 or better.
It's sad, but Sprint dropped the ball yet again on getting their good phones out quick enough. If Evo is released like last week, then *maybe* the Evo will be any good. But June??? It's a piece of outdated crap aside from the 4G, which I do not get in my neighborhood.

doesnt apply to me, i left tmobile to get the hero because i wanted it so bad and i was let down by the end product, it could have been way better, i mean with the design and all, and the dust under the screen etc, sprint rushed this phone to compete because at the time they had no android phones, see what happens when you rush. and i got my contract when the hero launched, so my year is next year, by the time a have an upgrade there will be phones chips in our brains...............and evo will be obsolete for me.
The rumors I have heard about the Evo launch all center around the dates of June 6th or June 13th as the most likely possible launch dates.
Not entirely speculation, but def not written in stone.

Be careful doing this, if the phone isn't activated on the line it was purchased for, you usually don't get the MIR if bought through Sprint.
Just a warning.
I'm getting the Evo really excited. I hate the random lags I sometimes get on the Hero, and the blasting speed of the Evo will take care of that for sure.
What's weird is I upgraded my phone to the Hero in February, but for some reason on Sprint.com it still says I'm eligible for a complete phone upgrade..? (I guess they never incorporated my purchase as a phone upgrade... sweeeet)

Who else is Returning their Atrix before 30 days are up?

The Atrix is kind of my second Android device. I had a Captivate for a few weeks and wasn't a fan. After following the Atrix (back when it was known as the Olympus), and having own it since the 21st, I think it's time to return it.
I like the phone. I like Android. And while AT&T may not be the fastest in my area, they're pretty good. But having my upload speeds "capped" really irritates me. There's no reason why it shouldn't have HSUPA enabled. And I don't trust AT&T to update it. So, as a consumer, I'm going to vote with my wallet and return my Atrix before I get locked into a contract.
I've been looking really hard to find an N1 for AT&T. The search hasn't gone well. Most people I've contacted on craigslist have a hard time telling me if it's Tmo or AT&T 3G. I figured most people with N1 were geeks and would know that question right off the top of their head. I've found a couple of ebay, and even though I know that phone is awesome, I have a hard time paying $300+ for a year+ old phone.
Anyone that knows someone selling an N1 for AT&T 3G, I'd be willing to pay up to $250 based on condition. I just really, really, really don't want to go back to using my iPhone 3G.
I am still waiting to hear from the repair guys regarding my iPhone 3GS. That's the initial reason I made the jump. But the clock is ticking and my 30 days are almost up. So if I hear from the tomorrow and my phone is reparable, I may take the Atrix back and wait to see what the iPhone 5 is gonna boast and if its nothing but a 4GS type of an upgrade... I'll most likely repurchase the Atrix. I just don't want to be kicking myself IF (the operative word is IF) the iPhone summer update release is comparable or surpasses any other phone on the market.
With all of the mods the developers are creating, I'm hopeful that the speed thing won't be an issue for long. But you are right about AT&T being shady.
Going to return mine if HSUPA / Skype issue is not resolved as both are pretty much a deal breaker for me.

At least you have a 3GS. Do you know how horrible it is go from a fast, 1ghz phone, to a phone that's 400mhz with 128mb ram? Plus it's JB, so it's even slower.
I'm curious about iphone 5 as well, but it's going to take more than hardware to bring me back. I had an iPhone 4, and the antenna sucked. Also, I'm super bored with the OS. If the OS gets a major overhaul and the phone is better, I'll probably get it.
There is also the rumor about the HTC Revolver coming around Q3. Dual core, Android 3.0 (my guess is 2.4).
I'm actually really thinking about switching to VZW for the Tbolt. Except I hate VZW and have had a much more positive experience on AT&T. Except, at the current moment, they're only the 3rd fastest in Phoenix. Tmo and VZW LTE are faster.
Decisions... Decisions...

its not like it samsung or sprint

Isn't the HSUPA+ of the Atrix is not compatible with the AT&T tower yet unless they turn the HSPA+ on?
I'm confused. Motorola is working on Skype compatibility now.
i'd sell you my ATT N1 for 275
Not a chance.
I'm building linux (ubuntu) boxes as often as I can and to have a phone of the same ilk is quite nice. One that is this fast is quite the bonus.
Phone carrying corps won't do anything unless we vote no with our dollars. I know I'm not doing it. Switching to another company still shows you are hooked.
iphones are boring. Edit: Great designs, beautiful methodologies. Still, boring bar the eye candy.
I have 10 more days to decide. I'm really on the fence still. On one hand the hardware is amazing and blazing fast. Friends and family wow at the tegra hd games, hdmi webdock with out using the official moto dock, and the snappiness of the OS is great (granted its rooted, frozen and better optimized than stock form.) Also, the hope that the bootloader will be open in the future and custom roms made for it are a big wait and keep it flag for me. But on the other hand moto has left a bad taste in my mouth with the locked bootloader, and so has at&t with the HSUPA fiasco. But then I have to also hope that a more powerful or as powerful "community friendly phone" will be out soon as well, because anything else up till now doesn't boast this kind of hardware and speed in MY experience..... Decisions.
I already returned mine. Motorola made such an awesome phone and then teamed up with AT&T to completely cripple it! I fully trust AT&T will do everything they can to SCREW Atrix buyers. GET OUT NOW WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

What phone to upgrade to?

Hey guys,
So i've been going back and forth trying to decide if I should upgrade now or wait it out until something better comes along. I love my EVO, but just getting the urge to get something new...i have mixed feelings on the 3D and am pretty stoked for the Samsung Within to come out (supposedly in late July). Also I hear more and more rumors about the iphone coming to sprint this fall. Along with apple getting sprint towers to do some serious testing on their network in KS. If those rumors do become fact and I got a phone before they annouce it, i would be kinda of pi$$ed i didnt wait it out for the iphone.
So i guess im just seeing what you guys think - if sprint will get the iphone or not this year? Or if you have an evo 3d or if your waiting on one of the motorla's to come out or the samsung within...
Just hoping to get some discussion on what everyone is waiting on from sprint this year....look forward to reading everyones posts...
EVO 3D? (Maybe, IMHO until they address the bootloader, back off of it.)
iPhone? No. If you want an iOS device wait for a new iPod Touch to tether to any Android phone.
Samsung ___ (I don't trust them), You gotta love the spec sheet on the GSII though.
I'd wait only until September just to see what crops out. If the Nexus Prime comes out, I'd go for that.
Me personally, I'll be going to the EVO 3D just on the strength of the devs that are getting it as well & the fact that I actually like Sense based roms. I'll also be selling my iPod Touch 4 as I'll be buying the new iPod Touch #_? to tether to the EVO 3D.

Hey guys,
So i've been going back and forth trying to decide if I should upgrade now or wait it out until something better comes along.

Why would you want the iPhone. It's such a piece and android is so much better. I would say get the 3D or wait for the within and get that. At the very least wait for something better to come out. Please do not waste your money on the garbage iPhone.
i'm waiting for news of a SGS2, otherwise the evo3d is cool

Same here. I was hoping to hear some sort of announcement this week now that HTC's new flagship has already been released. Figured Sprint has agreements with the various manufacturers to stagger announcements so that new releases aren't downplayed by other major announcements.
Nexus prime, this fall.

I got my wife the EVO3D and she absolutely loves it. (She had the EVO 4G before)
Even stock it is screaming fast. Instant response to all the touches. Root does currently seem to be an issue and why I don't use it. Wireless tether is a must for me.
As great as the EVO 3D is I think I might wait till the Holidays and get the last greatest then. I am crossing my fingers that Sprint gets the new Nexus at launch since they have been buddy buddy recently.
If the iPhone 5 comes out for Sprint (I doubt it highly) that is a great choice as well. Not as versatile as Android but it does what it does better than anybody else.
Don't flame me, I am an Android Fan boy, but I know how to show respect to the competitors.
I'd wait it out.

OK maybe I'm just poor, but are you guys paying or planning on paying full retail? Unless you have a really cool rep letting you upgrade after only one year. Is there some awesome place selling phones for cheap that I haven't heard of? (like a trustworthy seller on eBay?)
For me, I'm still holding out until the real EVO replacement. The 3d is only meh to the original. Don't care enough about 3d and the dual core stuff is still just mediocre. When they slap in dual 1 ghz processors, then were talking. Until then, the original EVO is still way up there on list of bad ass phones.

I'm leaning towards getting a 3D this week. I was going to wait for the SG2 after seeing all the negative initial reviews, but after playing with the 3D, I came away impressed. It's got everything I like about the Evo, with a form factor I like more and the 3D was actually pretty cool to see live. I'm still hoping the SG2 comes out late July as predicted so I can still make a direct comparison before any 30 day return window ends for me.

+1 on this...I tried the Evo 3d yesterday not impressed at all
I think my Evo is working just fine and probably sticking with it. I'm going to wait for the next generation of phones (quad-cores).
I can't stand Apple but have you guys read this article?

I looked at the 3D live and it was nice, but I'm not excited enough to drop a pile of cash for it. I spoke to a Sprint Rep on the phone and she seemed to think that I could get the $75 Premier discount plus the $150 recycle discount for turning in my EVO 4G and that would get me the 3D for free. But after doing more research, it seems like she was just confused.
As far as I can tell, I'd need to buy the phone outright for $450-550 and I'd be able to discount $225 from that. Leaving me another $225+ out of pocket.
The other option would be canceling my contract and paying something just under $200 for early cancellation. Then signing a new 2 year contract and getting the 3D for $180. But that still leaves me paying ~$155 out of pocket.
Is this math generally correct? Or is there another way to upgrade the EVO 4G to the EVO 3D for lower out of pocket costs?
As for which phone I'd upgrade to if I was willing to spend $200-300+, I'm very excited about the SGII but I'm a bit worried about the lack of recent news about possible Sprint coverage on it. I'm also very interested in the Nexus Prime, but by the time it is due out I was expecting to start seeing quad core phones coming out.
Additionally, now after seeing the recent network speed tests and how Sprint is so terrible and my recent problems with extremely slow 3G speeds, I'm seriously considering a switch to Verizon when I upgrade. Plus the fact that I'm seeing Verizon's 4G network expand so much faster than Sprint's (which after a full year is still not available in my area) and the fact that Sprint may be switching over to LTE.
That looks like an HTC or Motorola to me, not an Apple.
I must admit, it looks sexy.

yeah i did, just checked it out actually before coming over to XDA...can you tell im working hard over here. I can't tell if I like that form factor or not. I HATED the iphone 4 form factor when it first came out and thought it was the ugliest thing in the world then, but now I love it. If it does look like that I guess I'd have to hold it and see how it is.
What do you guys think - think it wil be a totally revamped iphone coming out this fall or just some minor upgrades, like being compatable with Sprint's network?
The SGSII looks sick as hell and i might have to snatch that up - really hoping the iphone comes to sprint tho - without the outrageous prices!
Thanks for all the comments so far!

IMHO you have to remember, if you keep worrying about the "next best thing" there will be something better to follow, right behind it. I'd wait two months tops, just to see what else will become available.
$155 - $225 for the EVO 3D isn't bad, its generally what you'd normally pay for an average upgrade.
BTW you can't mention switching to Verizon if you're looking to manage money, I don't think you'll be too excited paying more "out of pocket" per month than you have to.

Can you post a link to the negative reviews? I've seen nothing but raving reviews on this phone. It's nice to have a balanced opinion.
How is the SGS2 different then the EVO 3D, aren't they the same or similar specs?

Upgrading Dilemma (Premier Gold)

Looking for a way to maximize my final premier upgrade benefit.
My eligibility just kicked in effective today.
Currently using an evo 4g. Don't really have any issues with it, but the upgrade is there, tempting me. If I upgrade now, it'll be another 22 months before i'm eligible. If I wait til summer, something newer and faster will be out.
Suggestions?
You'll be eligible to upgrade in 20 months... and like everyone will tell you: yes there will always something new as soon as you buy something now that will be better... if you need a new device or need to scratch that itch of upgrading then go for it... you wont be able to upgrade again for at least 8 more months (12 mo from gold status -20 regular upgrade) if you miss your current chance
My understanding of the changes was that premier gold could upgrade anytime in 2012 if they're eligible now?

There is no premier gold or silver anymore
No reason to quote if replying to a post directly above.
I know there's no more premier. However, my understanding from reading http://premier.sprint.com/premierupdate/faq.php#goldupgrade suggests that gold members have through the end of 2012 to exercise their upgrade.
Why not just call Sprint to verify? And if you can wait...LTE is around the corner...sort of.
Well the only phone really worth upgrading to right now is the Epic Touch 4G in my opinion.
It's a pretty slick phone, but I was disappointed it was released so late. The SGS2 European counterpart had been available for over half a year before it even came out.
If you check the development forums, the phone has a lot of good support and roms, but no true AOSP roms yet.
Unfortunately, the next Sprint flagship phone likely won't be out until next June or July, if history repeats itself, which it has over the last 3 years.
I've also been sitting on an upgrade since June, been tempted by the EVO 3D and Epic Touch before, but I've managed to hold off.
I just hope they at least announce something tangible about the next Sprint flagship device within a few months.
Getting ICS on our phones will make the wait a bit easier to take, I think.
^^Agreed. The ET4G does look like a nice phone, but wouldn't mind something with a higher resolution too. Lack of AOSP is a big issue on that phone too. After running cm7 for the last 6+ months, I doubt I can go back to anything else.
If I wait til the july launch of whatever is next, at that point I'd be 5 months away from the 20 month upgrade period anyways. Seems either way, the annual upgrade this time around will likely go to waste.

Agreed...don't see much use spending money to upgrade from my Evo on Sprint at this point.

I am 100% in the exact same position. Got my Evo on release day and have been sitting on an upgrade since June. The Evo 3D was not the exponential leap I was hoping for and the initial locked bootloader made me hesitate. I thought I was destined to get the Galaxy Epic but LOS scared me off then Samsung's usual slow response to the problem sealed that "no go" for me. I'm sure they are both great phones but if I'm going to be stuck for two years, I want that big leap in technology like the OG Evo was. Now Sprint is updating to LTE and they are going to be releasing a bunch of LTE ready phones by the 2nd or 3rd quarter 2012. I don't see any "gotta have it now" phones currently and with this incredible dev. community, I can see and test all the latest software anyway.
Frankly I hope the next HTC superphone on Sprint will LTE ready, thin, have a quality build (take some design queues from the Evo Design), be ICS bug free, have a great screen, be as future proof as possible (yeah I know) with a quad-core processor and most importantly, beat whatever specs. the Iphone 5 ends up with. Well that's my wish list; what's yours?
