I have had my 3G iphone for about 6-7 months now, and have in that time tried several new phones, namely Nokia E71, Diamond (horrible), X1 (lasted less than 1 day!) and I also own a Trinity.
Anyway, the HD arrived via www.devicewire.co.uk in the UK (doh) on Thursday last week, and I powered it up right away. It was £522 delivered.
I think in the UK, people are better off ordering online, since you have the 7 day DSR (Distance Sellings Regs) to fall back on in the event of dislike, dead pixels etc.
With the HD, I am surprised how much I like it..........put it this way, it came Thursday, and Friday it was a case of "yes, this is good, but nothing much better than the iPhone, so I can not justify the cost, so back it goes".....read on for what happened next
I even have the return code from devicewire (very good aftersales, even when you are returning stuff!!)
I can not say the HD screen blew me away, since the screen on the iPhone is a truly, truly lovely screen anyway, and I had been using this everyday for the aforemention 6-7 months.....but, for anyone who has not been using an iPhone, the screen is gonna make you do a double take. It is clear, big, bright and the fonts look amazing.
First thing I did was switch off the ambient sensor (yes, it does have one!), and put brightness up to full, I love contrast as my eyesight is not so good these days.
Now, this is why the iPhone has been so good for me, (although I guess most of you lot here will be younger with perfect vision), I find it has good large fonts, and great contrast.
Compare this to the default text size on the Diamond, or indeed the latest Sony X1, its tiny, and yes, I do know you can altertext size, but on a small screen, it just means you get less on a sreen and have to be scrolling all the time.
The HD is just perfect for me, nice big fonts, so smooth, and perfectly usable with either a finger, (even with a glove on, something that is not possible on iPhone), or a stylus, which as it turns the HD on, is handy to have.
So, the screen is as good as the iPhone, with better resolution, and as I just read in the Slashgear review, the actual touching of the two screens is very close indeed. Even coming from several hours use of the iPhone eveyday, I do feel that I will get on with the HD screen very nicely.
But hang on, I am not keeping this am I, I already have the return code and devicewire are expecting it back......well, I doubt it now.......I had put it all away very carefully on Friday, but it sat there looking at me, and I kept reading about it on here........it was all too much, got up this morning and thought "lets take it to work, Sunday is quiet usually, I can have a play".
Well, the breakthrough for me was to turn off Touchflo and install PocketPlus, a great piece of software I have used on many devices. Oh, that and TomTom 6 running in landscape on the trip to work
As for GPS lag, it is only about 10 miles to my workplace, but there is little or no lag present in TomTom 6.
TomTom is a big deal for me, I find nothing touches it, and it is a great disapointment that there is still no TomTom (or anything else!) for the iPhone, when you recall the stories that TomTom already had it running back at the 3G launch, it must be Apple who are blocking its release.....
I think Touchflo is just too "black" for me, not sure if it will run with a brighter skin or not, but I like the way PocketPlus makes a device look, much brighter.
Now, a lot has been written about WM 6.1 being hard to use without D-Pad? The only issue (apart from games which I confess is of zero concern to me) is for selecting little drop down (roll out) menus, and that is sorted with AEBPlus http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php which allows you to assign the volume up and down keys to act as Arrow Up and Arrow Down, and this sorts it and works well.
I can confirm the UK HD comes with the little soft case (its quite nice actually), but a word of warning, do NOT assume all iPhone cases will work, my one, and nice Marware slip case is too tight, and the HD is a smidgen wider that the iPhone. Anyway, I like the softcase. It was also nice to get the 8gb Micro SD card. I have not installed the screen protector yet, can never really get on with those anyway.
Keyboard use on the iPhone is pretty good, and I was very doubtful that HTC could get anywhere near it, but they have basically cracked it IMV. The buttons are the same size as iPhone and easy to use. I am making less mistakes in a few hours than I do after 6 months on iPhone.
Web browsing is not in my opinion as good as the iPhone, well, let me qualify that. If you just use fingers, the iPhone wins, but if you use fingers and the stylus, I think the HD then just shades it.
One very welcome side effect of returning to WM is the multitasking, this is one massive issue for us geeks on the iPhone, combined with the lack of cut n paste, it really shows the two devices quite far apart in usability.
Email is very good on the iPhone, and if you only have the one account (gmail for example) it takes some beating for simplicity. However, the HD also does a great job, and with a little wireless keyboard (impossible on iPhone), I think it will make a good laptop replacement)
RSS is OK on the iPhone, but much easier on the HD, with the built in RSS Hub program, which downloads all feeds, including video feeds. I like to watch Cali Lewis on Geekbrief www.geekbrief.tv everyday, and you have to jailbreak the iPhone to be able to do that (yes, I do know its coming in 2.2 software, but with a limit of 10mb over cellular, which renders it useless for video podcasts, and anyway, its a pain in the arse to upgrade iPhone and then have to jailbreak each time.
We are good at making our decisions fit the case, so the iPhone user is always going to say "oh, I don't really miss cut n paste", when in fact, you quickly forget how often it is useful.
I think for me, it comes down to this, the HTC Touch HD can do everything the iPhone can do and lots more, but the the iPhone can not do several things the HD can do. Does that make sense?
I hope this view (not a review IMHO), helps some of you, and just like the chap in the other thread, please feel free to ask any specific questions about useabilty, although please don't ask me to run x test on y video, using xx program while standing in a bucket of water, as I probably can not be bothered
A couple of program I will miss if I sell the iPhone are TV Plus, a great APP which gives a 7 day EPG and more inportantly, links to Sky Plus (UK only) and lets you setup recordings.
I will also greatly miss Remote, an Apple APP which controls iTunes on my main desktop PC, although I should be getting up off my butt to change charge anyway.
So, who wants to buy an iPhone ;-)

So font size was your only problem with the Xperia? I'm trying to decide between the Xperia (had it for about 5 days now) and the HD.

No, I got the X1 in the UK at Vodafone (if anyone is interested they are £500 are are not locked to Voda.....well, my one was not anyway)
The fonts were always gonna be too small for me, but I hated the keyboard, the keys barely protrude over the case, very little feedback.
But the killer and reason for return within a few hours for refund was a horribly wobbly screen, but I accept this could have been my one.
Also, given that you would have to use on screen keypad to dial people, it was too fiddly, too small. That 3" screen is very narrow you know.

I bet there's a program on WinMo that let's you control not only your iTunes but your whole PC. On my current 4 years old Nokia, there's System Freak, that lets you do that...

You might be interested in a SlingBox, which allows you to stream and your own Sat/IPTV etc. over the web to your laptop or your WM device. It comes with software to control the IR on your video sources. I stream Bluewin IPTV and Sky to the SlingMobile software on my Trinity and intend to do the same with the HD tomorrow when it arrives. I hope it runs on the HD. I will report back later on that.

From what I've read elsewhere, the Touch HD doesn't have an IR port, so you won't be able to use the IR functionality of Slingbox unless you mean the "box" itself attached to a TV?

Well, it is hard to say that much more, I have them both here and am playing now. Not sure if you know the iPhone, but on 2.1 software (jailbroken), when you press the button for say SMS, there is about a 2 sec delay while it loads up, now on the HD, its about the same, but on the HD if you leave messaging running in the background (which I suspect you can do with these better memory equipped models?) it is instant, with the iPhone you always get the delay cos nothing (well except the music player) is allowed to stay in background.
OK, using book reading software, I would say they are almost equal.........maybe the iPhone is fractionally better, or it could be I am more used to it.
As to your second point, I can't help mate, for one, I only have a vague idea of what a "bus" is, and the day I find either the iPhone or the HD "sexy", that is the day I go back to my Nokia 6310 )
OK, I think they look so similar mate, there is nothing in it.

Hi, I can not find a version number I am afraid.
It looks great in portrait, but bloody fantastic in widescreen, I have it on a manual rotate screen, and there are NO bars in any view.

I would have no idea beyond my one mate. It was that bad that I could never live with it.
I have replaced it....with the HD )
I will not be getting another X1, fonts were too small, and after this screen, there is no going back.

Hi, I do have Slingbox, and have even register Slingplayer, but I just have never had good perfomance on it to be honest. I am not realy fussed about watching TV on my HD, just this little app was great to tell my Sky box to record something, mainly cos it enabled you to do it even without turning the TV and Sky box on.
I am hoping there is something for WinMo

after a bad experience with an htc diamond (very poor battery and many ROM updates), I've decided to go for nokia e71. Now I'm considering an htc touch hd, but I'm very curios about it's battery life. how the touch hd compare to the e71 in terms of battery life and general?

Battery life looks like it will be quite good, but not as good as an E71 (screen is tiny!).
Had it only a day really, so I will update this in a few days.

Now that people are starting to receive their Nexus One handsets, it would be really good if there was a single thread where people could post their first impressions, then a mini review after a few days of use.
So far I can't see any threads like that on this forum, only the one logging existing issues with the N1. This will be a really helpful set of opinions for people like myself who are WinMo owners potentially considering a switch.

Yes this sucka is FAST. Im convinced engadget rigged the speed test. The loading of websites is insanely fast.
MultiTouch/Pinch Zoom on Dolphin Browser is fantastic!
MUCH better than Iphne for the simple reason text will format itself to the display once pinched in or out. I cant fathom how people overlook this feature.
Homescreen cards are useless.
Homescreen crawling with live wallpapers ((especially rain)) is slightly choppy at times. Regular wallpapers smooth.
Creepy moment....Maybe I overlooked something I did.. but how did camera pics from my G1 appear on my Nexus One gallery ???? Im seriously baffled. ((drop box)) is the only info I have. Maybe Its in picasa ?? Need to check this.
App installation ?....insanely fast..serious. Its done quicker than you can exit out so far. ((wifi))
Screen is gorgeous.. I will say this. It may not WOW you at first. But the second you go back to Iphone or another phone.. it REALLY hits you how sharp this phone is. Similar to dvd to HD. Biggest difference is when you go back and realize how blurry it was.

First impressions after a few hours:
FAST!! (especially coming from the Hero). I was download/installing apps in the background and didn't notice any slowdown.
The screen is awesome. Not just the resolution, the colors are really good. OLED is worth it.
Different hardware button order on the bottom: Back-Menu-Home-Search on the N1. Not a big deal, but I had assumed that Android would come with a recommended button layout. Oh and the buttons are capacitive sensing, not protruding rubber buttons.
After about 24 hours..
FAST, FAST, FAST... app installs are ridiculously quick. As mentioned earlier, I don't know what Engadget was doing because the browser loads everything super quick for me. Maybe they should have ran multiple tests beyond their cluttered mess they call a website.
Transitioning between homescreens can be done by touching the bottom left and right, which show dots to indicate where you are. Center screen has two dots on each side, if you click the right dots you'll have 3 on the right and 1 on the left, click to the right again and you'll have 4 on the right and 0 on the left. hard to explain, but I like it better than swiping.
Some apps need to be updated to 2.1, so I'm missing some functionality but I'm sure that will be taken care of soon.
The screen is GORGEOUS. I spent over an hour last night reading a large pdf document and never felt any eyestrain whatsoever. I'm sensing great E-reader possibilities here. Further, the battery barely lost any juice while the screen was lit up for such a long period. Battery life has been excellent so far, much better than my Ion.
Speech-to-text works well so far.
Call clarity has been fine, but I've only talked for a few minutes.
No radio issues, showing over 1mbps here in the DC area.
N1 on AT&T
I'm stuck on ATT and with wifi it is extremely fast not much faster than my sons 3gs to compare with. But definately faster and smoother. I thought that edge would be terrible and it is slower of course but surprising noticably much faster than my G1. Maybe a better radio or just the horsepower. I have wifi at work and home and don't have a lot of idle time except maybe at the airport (which has wifi) so I'm ok.
At this point I don't see anything on the horizon to top this for a while.

anyways it's super fast. like 10 times faster than g1. you hit install and it's done. you click something and it's up. multi touch in dolphin is crazy. cant wait till tonight when cyanogen includes MT in regular browser.
complains? have to get used to top button / lock screen. i also have to agree with engadget that the touch buttons seem to be higher than they should be. as in for say HOME, you have to hit the top half of it really close to screen for it to work, if u hit too far down it doesnt. and too far down is too far up IMO.
BEAUTIFUL. screen is gorgeous.
camera takes pictures like instantly. and even autofocuses. no dedicated camera button tho .
not sure about sound quality. talked to cousin and it seemed maybe worse? idk i have to wait and see.i dont like that its microusb and not miniusb but that's not really an issue.
but seriously it's ridiculously responsive and awesome and fast and worth my money . onscreen keyboard works great especially in landscape.

GRR. no its not. it's not that big of a deal for me and also you can count on either an update making it MT or another keyboard just using it's API's. the next HTC_IME might be MT for all we know.

not sure the FPS...i can post a test video for you in a little to check it out or look at one already posted. it's better than other phone but not amazing...
no flash YET it's coming soon as an update but right now there is no flash...
better keyboard or HTC IME willl allow for t9. and idk what t9 you mean...the normal keyboard has predictive to some extent but if you want phone keypad predictive go with better KB or HTC IME. i'm seeing if the current HTC IME works in a little.
The Nexus one is absolutely amazing!! I came from 32b sapphire(my touch). This phone is probably ten times faster at loading apps and navigating around. Internet browsing is insanely fast, its pretty much like browsing on a pc. Typing on the android keyboard is actually pretty good, if I type as fast as I can the phone does not miss a beat, I tested hitting 2 keys at the same time and it always picks up both of them. I have never noticed the phone slow down one bit even when it is running 20+ apps at the same time. Almost all the apps I had for the Mytouch have worked very well on the Nexus. Orientation is almost instant, and the camera takes pics really fast as mentioned above. The screen is beautifully clear and functions well. So far I'm very impressed!

screens dfont have fps but rather i think you mean to say refresh rate. the refresh rate on OLED displays is very high.
It is possible to add a T9 keyboard. Cyanogen will soon release the HTC_IME keyboard for nexus one and it supports this feature.

No, he's asking about the specs if you're taking video with the camera. It is 720x480, but I don't know the fps.
oh the camera? well still images do not have FPS, video recording is 20fps. (Source)
I've had mine for about an hour now and I LOVE it. The screen is amazing and very vibrant . The phone itself looks and feels great. When it changes to landscape view it is SUPER fast, there is pretty much no lag to speak of.
My biggest issue so far is the fact it doesn't use the normal mini usb for charging. The only reason I have an issue with that is the fact I have mini USB chargers everywhere in my house.
Besides that the only other thing I don't care for is the automatic screen brightness. I like my screen bright and it tends to get a little to dim when it's on auto matic.
It's the best phone in the world. So snappy, integrated with google. This is the Android experience.
Engadgets Browser Test....... BS
I keep hearing mention of the Engadget's browser test video between the Droid, N1 and IPhone. What they fail to mention is that engadget's site is safari optimized, yes apple's safari! Try any other website, and you'll have vastly different results. They keep saying that the Droid's and N1's performance was "embarrassing", the true embarrassment is the lack of objectivity that engadget has shown when regarding anything apple!
Wow, I didn't know about not charging off miniUSB...that's kinda a bummer, that's how I always charged my G1. Guess I'll have to make sure not to lose my official charger.
I've had it for about 90 minutes so far. Reading Engadget's review made me afraid I was going to have buyer's remorse, but the two things that bothered me the most in their review turn out to be non-issues. I tried out the screen in the bright Los Angeles sun and, at least when the brightness is turned up, it's still usable. The screen reflects a lot of light though, and the glare can make it tough, but you can still see what's on the screen through it just fine. Also, no multitouch is a bummer in most cases, but the multitouch on the Dolphin browser is just as good as the iPhone's, nice and smooth. Finally, page loading for me has been plenty fast, and despite Speedtest saying there's no real change in download speed, it appears to download pages much more quickly (I'm assuming it's due to the page rendering that much faster).
Everything is fast, boot times appear to be under 30 seconds (I didn't time it), no real lag so far, the keyboard is very responsive, scrolling is smooth as glass -- I'm not regretting the purchase in the slightest, though I am feeling a little bad for my poor G1, he served me well for quite some time!
I've noticed a couple times scrolling through the forums that an outsider interested in buying the phone might be turned away if they read through here. Of course, odds are they wouldn't come to XDA in the first place, but still the complaints - though in the minority - are most obvious.

Wow... the counter part entitled "Lets face it: HD2 (and XDA!) is f*in amazing!". Things are getting interesting.
The best thing I love about HD2 is screen, CPU, WiFi router and Remote Desktop Mobile (my personal favourite). Perhaps a couple of other "diamonds sparkling behind the rock". You need to dig to get the diamonds....lol...

Surprisingly, I was actually slightly offended that someone would mistake the HD2 as an Apple product...but he was only a kid so I kept quiet and just continued playing...hehe.
Love it all, screen crisp and clear, fast fast fast processor and navigates really easily and well, surprising ease of use input methods, that fact that while its big it doesnt feel too big when using it as a phone, how clear and loud the speakers are, plays movies really well and so much better than I expected, really easy to use and individualise... so much more that I'm afraid if I keep typing it will look like I am gushing...

im lovin my hd2 tbh. my last phone was an omnia and over at modaco there is a great rom scene, i havent even tried a custom rom on the hd2 yet, so i havent scratched the surface on what this amazin piece of kit can offer! the best thing about wm is defo the customization.
the screen on this device is something else, web browsing is amazing (im writin this on hd2 now).

Finally a thread that makes sense
I love the screen, the wifi speed, the speed in the menus, the video playback (streaming with coreplayer of course), the pinch to zoom, the hardware, sense 2.5, the screen resolution and again that screen... so beautiful
moved from xperia x1, the processor is twice fast and so the screen!
still at stock Rom until my spare battery arrive best phone in winmo era!
buy another iptouch if you want to play fancy game, affordable compared to awesome HD2
At work yesterday I showed a mate who has an iPhone, side by side the HD2 just looks SOOOO much nicer

I love the HD2, the wonderful screen estate, the speed and all the wonderful mods. XDA-developers is the one reason I stayed with HTC phones and not gone for others. All the help and wonderful tweaks and modifications just make the phone unique to us and we feel so free to do as we like without being restricted.
Best time was when a iPhone 3gs owner got envious of my HD2 XD
And as many o got offended when some ppl have misstaken it for a iPhone >.<

Just a quick one from a very loyal windows phone user who went to iPhone 3GS and then played with a HD2...
There are MANY reasons to go back to windows/HTC and given that I have been using the 3GS for around 6 months now, it's quite a big thing to say.
There are also many reasons to stay with the iPhone.
To be honest, the functionality and hardware...the HD2 wins hands down and not a single person can say otherwise.
Software-wise - I have to admit, the same BUT, when I went back to the iPhone, I couldnt help noticing the simplicity of it all which sometimes made it a bit better to use.
There were also a few niggles that the iPhone seemed to not have
Other: The appstore.
This is where the iPhone won over the market place.
The apps are cheap, there are plenty of them around and some of the very few games that I always have to have on a phone (need for speed/asphalt) were a lot better on the iPhone.
Why am I going back to the iPhone?
Only one reason after all that testing... logmein!
I heavily use logmein for home/work and this is something that is too flakey on the HD2.
iPhone has an app, its all done via the app. Related to this, the web side of things work very well on the iphone where zooming in still fits the page to the screen.
Niggles:
Main one is that the Audi and the HD2 don't like each other in that the contacts are only syncing up to the letter N
Second was emails i found easier on the iphone (don't shout!)
I love the idea of how it displays on the HD2 but hate the idea that to delete, I have to go into another screen or whatever. This is going back to Simplicity that you have 4 icons, one to reply, one to delete, and whatever the others do ON the email in question. Same goes for multiselect...going to a menu, select, select several is 3 screens to many and the iPhone slide>delete individually is still "simpler"
having said all of this, if I had never touched the iPhone, I would not have realised any of the above and gone for the HD2
But the way I work is to take the HD2, not use the 3GS, and see if I need to use the 3GS for anything...if not, the HD2 is a winner.
And in this case, it did win had it not been for the bluetooth and logmein.
End of the day, it's all personal preference and I know for a fact I'll go back to HTC/WinMo once I get what I want on it

I agree. Ability to have 2 free hands is a god send.
Movies look awesome man. I've been playing games as well and I love it. On the cons side, I don't like that the browser takes you to the mobile version of the websites.
There is so much to like. Everything feels a lot more natural. Typing, browsing navigation. Yum

I would have to say portability is the best quality. The biggest con for me is I can do everything on my EVO that the Tab can do. Im going to fully use my 29days to figure out if I want it or not.
7" is a great form factor for a tablet (sorry Steve). Soon there will be more competition in this field, but the build quality, large battery and full-featureness of the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be hard to match. I can see a few ways to improve the Tab: display with better viewing angles, refersh rate and lower power consumption, dual core Tegra 2 processor (although the software would need to take advantage of it), better camera, built-in software (driver and app) for FM radio chipset, worldwide integrated DMB TV tuner (currently only in some parts of the world), HDMI stand included with tablet (currently an expensive accessory), standard mini USB plug, . . . But otherwise the Tab is a pretty great device as it is now

The phone
Everything really. It really is 'one device does all'
When I'm on support duty, I need to lug around a netboot 'just in case' as well as my phone of course. Now can do it all from one device.
7" IS perfect. For me. (LCD Density app on the market helps get that little extra wiggle room, well recommended).
GF has an iPad that she enjoys, but she's getting frustrated by it's lack of flash more and more. Whilst she just uses it for email/browsing Perez whilst watching telly, it's been great. When she needs to do a bit of research, it's limitations are becoming clear. I've not had that issue. I've been able todo everything I need from it. (vnc'ing back to my linux box to handle work stuff, I have no problems with).
Also been able to setup my Everquest account to be able to be logged in and checked. Using vnc->Flash. It's slow, but it works. When I've tried todo that on the iPad, I've run into that whole 'no, you're not allowed todo that'. With the Tab (well, Android in general really), it's kinda the Unix philosophy, lots of little tools/apps that you can string together to let you work the way YOU want to.
Cons
hmm... Still annoyed that voice isn't as standard on the US models. That's just... well, stupid. Having to flash the euro rom works around it, but it's annoying to lose 3G for that. Unless it gets resolved properly soon (stock rom, and some app/mobile.bin that lets me use the mostly standard rom and get 3G AND get updates easily), I might look into the Skype/Google Voice solution that others have mentioned.
Wouldn't mind an earpiece so those rare moments I don't have the bluetooth headset, I can hold it up, and not mind looking silly. Maybe. Not sure. I'd like to have at least had the option.
The thing I really I love about my Tab is that it has turned my HTC Desire into just a phone, and my PC into something I just use during the day for work.
The Tab is now my primary method for internet and multimedia consumption when I'm not at my desk working.

The fact that it's small and I can stop downloading apps on my g1 that dosen't do well with many apps lol. Also I like that its not extremely light and dosen't feel too fragile.

What isn't to like? (Obviously trying to ignore US carriers' decisions to remove voice calling capability -- as that is a monster FAIL.)
This is one sweet piece of hardware. Actually, strike that. That doesn't do it justice.
This is... ahem... the coolest piece of gadgetry I have ever owned to-date. (Again, obviously trying to ignore the no-voice-calling horse**** -- and no, I can't leave that caveat off.)

Apple appeals to less intelligent people that thinks its fashion.
Imo the 10" tabs like ipad are to big and heavy to function well in the hands. It tire out my hands and you have to hold it in one hand to reach everything on the screen.
Its to big to have it with you all time and dont fit in the pocket. I can just take with me the laptop instead in the nice little bag.
I have the tab with me all the time. I dont have a phone with me anymore. It has perfect size and isnt to heavy. The screen resulotion does surfing better then on a phone and the 7" makes it easyer to see whats on it.
The sgt works well for chatting, atleast i can type fast as hell on it now. Almost the same as a regular keyboard.
Pretty entertaining games. Getting a little sick of Angry Birds now but there lots of fun game with pretty sweet 3D graphics.
Surfing works good altho the browser that came with the tab is a little stuttery. I use Opera most of the time now wich is super smooth for me and when i need flash to work or something isnt working correct in Opera i use Dolphin HD.
The screen is pretty good and watchin movies, reading books and magazines works great.
It feels realy good and sturdy even with the plastic back.
The battery seems to have no problem keeping up a whole day. I have bluetooth on the whole time, msn up and chatting alot, playing and surfing alot. Sitting next to my machine on my work and passing time with my little cute tab. And mine is going to get better because its still new. On my phone the battery time got a whole lot better after a while.
Hmm... what more, what more... Its just a sweet and imo perfect device.
The best is the screen of course. I love, love the big screen. At my office there are some hardcore iPad lovers and some Galaxy fans. And I have the biggest Galaxy screen!
I really like the brightness of the colors as well, everything looks so fresh and new. I get a lot of compliments from people around me, everybody wants to hold it. For me the 7inch was the deciding factor, 10inch is way too big for me, with my woman hands (at 1.60 m I don't have large hands). Working with the keyboard at landscape I can type really fast with just two fingers.
Considering I used to own WM devices before, I have to say I really, really like the Android platform. So I am not sure, that is the main reason but everything works really fast and downloads are easy.
I keep telling everybody that the Tab is a woman device, I can hold it in one hand, wonderful.
I think I haven't been this excited about a device for a long, long time.
It's 7" and fits right in one hand, the screen looks great, 2 cameras, I can type pretty fast with 2 fingers now, or swype. I do a lot of my writing on it while watching movie. And I can use it as a phone if I so desire.
Plus it's the best tablet that I can stick into my pocket and be on the go. Now I got to figure out whether I go for the T-Mobile or Verizon version first.

Same here, I don't have the Tab, & just sold my Evo, but it's like...... 7" isn't that much for something that is just a bigger Evo LOL, would really prefer 10"
But since I'm going to WP7, I may get one eventually, if not an Archos & flash it to get the official market. Who knows, maybe I'll end up with an iPad, I really don't know. 7" just doesn't do it for me since every smartphone with a touch screen I've owned has been 3.7" to 4.3"
& it's like, now they are already talking about their new Galaxy Tab. I think I'll wait for the thinner, faster version then.
Camera zoom would be nice too. I mean I can live without 720p recording.. I guess that's what smartphones are for instead of smarttabs?
Usually, when you eagerly await something....read all the reviews, watch the video presentations, when it finally arrives, you're usually a bit disappointed that it didn't live up to the hype.
That's completely the opposite of the NOTE...its awesome. After using it for about 5 minutes, then going back to use my iphone, it felt like a small child's toy. There's no way I could go back to using a phone of a lesser screen size, the Note really is a computer in your pocket. everytime I look at it, puts a smile on my face
Also, not specific to the note, but coming from the Iphone 4, being an IOS user since the 3G, I was blown away by the Android OS...it simply works; unlike the IOS where everything requires a workaround or a complex series of tasks to do something as simple as load a movie.
*Got mine from Handtec, polish version, just inserted a new SIM card on Rogers network, everything worked perfectly. Didn't have to input any setting for data or anything. Customs opened my note, but I think Handtec also did, as the language was preset to English?
Glad you like it! When I first got mine, I liked the big screen, but thought it was maybe too big... but now after using it for 2 weeks, even going back to a 4.3" screen feels wimpy! :-D

I've been extremely happy with my white Galaxy Note so far! Display is perfect, no dead pixels or anything else *knock on wood*. The image is very crisp thanks to the high resolution panel and with the 2.3.6 update, it is butter smooth. I really don't have any complaints yet and I've had the phone for a few days. I agree. The only time I feel a bit sad is when I use the browser. I found the iPhones browser more user friendly (easier) with the tabls and quickness. That I dont get here but everything else seems better.

True that it happened.
Dolphin has clarified it too.
They have rectified the issue in the latest version.
I am a big fan of dophin.
However there are some other good browsers like xscope and so on

Try Opera Mobile, it's fricking awesome! I was also disappointed in the stock browser (odd, seeing as how I was coming from the GSII) and Opera Mobile is as if it's inside my head. It works so well! Buttons exactly where you want them, excellent lag-free performance, when you zoom it re-locates perfectly, if you click a link that's too small and it's not sure what you're trying to click, it zooms in right there. It's really great.

I'm getting mines tomorrow from handtec. when you say opened, was the screen plastic cover removed?
I got mine for expansys yesterday and fired it up today. From Iphone 4 too. I am very impressed--the s pen is impressive.

Looking at the video it seems that the back of the white note is glossy, shiny compared to the mate design of my blue (or black or whatever). Is that true?

Yup, its glossy, there's no matte texture.

This drives me nuts about apple.
Around the world to do some simple task, and people think it's great.
I'm a recent convert to Android from HTC Sense / Winmo 6.5.
I miss Sense and the WM registry but love Android.
Android actually allows you legally to mod your phone.
Why hang with turkeys when you can fly with eagles.
I wish the monitor were Super AMOLED Plus 800x1280.
The clarity is not as crisp as Sensation SLCD (reading text)
and color rendition is not smooth transition (launch XDA developer app and see the ugly orange transition). granted, I disabled Dithering in Sensation (CM7 option).
I'm using Movie mode in Display setting.
Comparing your iPhone 4 and Galaxy Note, which one has a louder external speaker? Which one has a clearer external speaker?

Yeah, same here, but we can't have everything right?
I'm sure Samsung had their reason for doing so and went with PenTile instead of the RGB path.
It's not like they say in an instant, "sure go with that". Research is been done first among many others things before they decide which one to use.
