RoadCom RC 400C - help me - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hello, recently my sister bought this device which is based on WinCE core 5.0 system with Route66 software. I tried to find some polish maps and put them inside but I couldn't. I read a lot of ways to unlock and install another software for example TomTom bu still with no happy ending. So my question is can anybody help me with that? I want to have on that device a map of Poland with polish speakers instead of UK maps. I tried to use MioPocket 3.0 Release 59 with SD card but still Route66 starts for all the time. I didn't find any maps on the internet only those from 66.com for which there is a price I have to pay but I can't spend that amount of money for that. So if there is anybody who can help me, please let me know.

Shock, Horror!!! TomTom seems to have done quite well!!

Hi Guys,
As you may have read from previous posts, TomTom & I have had a very stormy relationship! Add to that huge memory leak problems on my XDA IIi & I was sure that Nav5 was going to get the usual thumbs down, but after removing the O2 Active UI by following the instuctions here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18963
(didn't even need a hard re-set!!! my memory is fine now.
Loaded Nav 5 onto my unit from update CD
Then loaded all the maps from the 6 CDs (Hmm, that bit is still very naff but better than with Nav3), they won't quite fit onto 2 1gb SDs, & activated the free trial of TT Plus.
Then I drove from Sudbury, Suffolk to Dover via London, using the GB map, then on to Belfort, France (near Swiss & German borders) I always go via Luxembourg to avoid the french tolls. put in Belfort and Main Roads of EU kicked in from main app. it immediately asked if I wanted to avoid the toll roads, clicked yes & lo & behold it found my tried & tested route! Impressed! What's more it din't crash once
But when you get an incoming call it cuts of your GPS connection but then (most of the time) it re-establishes it (tho sometimes you have to re-configure, but that's now a lot easier if you use a TT receiver)
Last night used it all the way to Roskilde, Denmark, tonight we're off to Kristiansand, Norway. So far so, very, good!!!!
See! When something's right I big it up! I don't only whinge about the negative bits!!!
So far it's a big well done to TomTom for this version (XDA IIi-wise anyway)
Same here matey. Recently installed TT5 with GB maps only onto my XDA 2. No problems at all, connects within 20secs, never crashed yet and even works when receiving calls on my bt headset. GPS doesn't disconnect and when I hang up, it shows me at the correct location.
GENIUS
ive got an XDA2i and my TT5 seems to crash more often than not. especially when searching for POIs (ie take me to nearest petrol station... CRASH)
i admit i am using a hooky version, but if it's this bad i wont be buying it! (which i intended to)
im running an XDA2i with corporate install (no O2 Active UI) and an aftermarket bluetooth GPS.
its also annoying that TT5 disables bluetooth when you quit, and its v. awkward to re-enable it whilst driving (its a little button afterall...)
I'm using a hooky version too. TT5 £10 from ebay!!! Works like a dream. I've got an XDA II, removed 02 Active UI.
Bluetooth doesn't disconnect when TT5 is ended. I must be so lucky!!

I'be got a ~5mb patch which will fix this problem, EVERY time I turned on certain POI's it would crash
Not any more and it seems MUCH more stable.
If you've got anywhere I can up it, let me know.

Jim, there is no way of knowing what bugs can arise when using patched/cracked software. I never use bluetooth gps either since I got an xda because I see so many problems, also if its for car use only I think a wired gps is more practical/reliable.
@ PC_Arcade:
You could always post the patch here, but if not then you could always PM me with the patch, it would be HIGHLY Appreciated!!!!!
Cheers!!!!!!!
OK, I've PM'd you the patch
Please could you upload it to the ftp for me (I'm @ work and I can't use FTP) so it can be linked here?

...TomTom5 is known to have a lot of bugs, even for legit users. I've had every version of TomTom and every major release sucks till they patch it..
@ PC_Arcade:
If the patch is too large for PM, you could always email me!
Thanks again in advance!
Cheers!!!
it's just over 5mb, too big for hotmail too IIRC

Just for the record I am a legit user and I like TomTom 5 just for one reason and that is the street signing, its like somebody is holding the sign out for you to read as you go along, neat.
OK, the patch is here
I have been totally unable to upload it onto the ftp here
Could someone please move it to there so I can change the link?
Thanks VERY much for the patch Arcade, have yet to test it, but I'm sure it will help. Installed it into the "2577" folder, is that correct? Its the only one with "ttn.cab" in it.
On a seperate note I want to install TomTom on the main memory of my XDA, with the maps still on SD card. I've heard this helps. Anyone know exactly which folders I need to copy to memory? Is it all, except maps? How will TTN know to look on the SD card for the maps though ?
Chop - thanks for success story, I brought the XDA and TTN5 expecially for a road trip around europe in a months time. Although I'm taking paper maps for backup, I was hoping I would be able to rely on TTN5. Don't think thats gonna happen now.

Not quite, you need to copy all the files in the rar over then run the .cab file. which will re-install TTN5
For safety's sake it might be work backing up your data.chk file as well.

The easiest way is to reinstall tomtom using the patch I posted and just install it to main memory, it will automatically use the maps on the card
All I have on the storage card is the GB map directory and an empty tomtom directory, hope that helps

TTN5 is fantastic, I can't remember how I lived without it
It's incredibly stable now too, although I did have to create a blank directory called tomtom on the SD card to get 7 digit postcodes to work
to make the postcodes work you need to put the file in a folder called zip in the root of the sd card.
Hi all
Could you tell me which file i have to put in the ZIP folder on the SD card?
@ pc_arcade : Is it the poi.dat file that is patched or the ttn.cab ?
Will it only work for GB map or for all maps ?

It's the content of the cab file that contains the patched files
AFAIK it works for all maps, can anyone confirm?
Can you tell me how to get full (7 didget) postcode working please ?????

Tom Tom 5.2 Vs CoPilot 6.0. Which is best???

I am just about to spend my hard earned cash on a Sat Nav system for my SPV M5000 and the two obvious choices are TomTom and CoPilot. Reading through the forum it seems that TT is more popular as there is more chat about it, but most of this is not very positive.
Looking at both products on their respective websites, the CoPilot seems to have a better feature set, including the 'live tracking' which sounds pretty cool
What are your thoughts???
BTW, what is considered to be the best Bluetooth GPS receiver?[/b]
I use Co-pilot 6 having upgraded from version 5 on my Jasjar. It works well and I find very little to complain about (hence lack of posts here I guess). It's ideal to obtain the package that contains their bluetooth GPS sensor for complete compatibility.
As soon as I can, I'm going to grab a copy. TomTom5 works, but its slow, ungainly, over-simplified and otherwise worse than TT3. I can't even specify coordinates.
Had a few teething problems but Co-Pilot 6 is pretty good. I upgraded from 5.
Only bad point so far is the POI's and the confirmation it requires for you to see the maps.
I have not yet tested the LIVE function - maybe I will try it on the way home tonight!
TT5 does seem to claim a lot of posts on here but then I think there are a larger % of peeps using it.
C6
I Got my Pro with Copilot 6 - I like it!!
I 've read sooo much bad press about it - but then TT seems to be a nightmare too. CP6 is pretty good - room for improvement sure but it works! -
well i gotta prob where the voice only comes through on earphone and not on speakerphone - that is annoying.
anyone know how to fix this?!
peace,
lr
You could try uninstalling the speech and then when you start Co-Pilot up again it should ask you to re-install with the language of your choice.
Or try chatting to ALK they are good on the support front. They usually get back to you quite promptly.
Avoid TomTom
TomTom support can be very poor if you have a problem.
They also specify that the software is licensed for one device only. I had a copy installed on my iPAQ and then device broke. TomTom refused to allow me to activate it on a new device.
This means I spent £300 a year ago and now I had nothing.
TomTom maps are alwaus out of date as well Steer clear.

What version of TomTom?

Which version of TomTom works best with the XDA Exec and where can I buy it from?
With 126 posts already you should not be posting this!!
Plenty of threads on it already!!
Use latest version 5.21 (works very well)
google for your purchase or... total-gps.co.uk or ebay for it.
For gps unit... my recomendation is holux 236 (cant get better than this).
BR
Is the Holux better than the bluetooth GPS that comes with Navigator? I find the bundled GPS can take a long time to get a fix.
Does the Holux have 32 chanel? Auto on and off? Works inside the glovebox? 12 hour battery life car and mains charger? For £40? As after much searching I went for this Qstarz BT-Q880 32 Parallel Channel Bluetooth GPS Receiver with 'Auto-ON-OFF' Technology and worlds fastest TTFF.:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9739255922&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1
Also re tomtom 5.21 working, I and another can confirm it does NOT work, if you have the latest CE rom version. I upgraded, and now even the 5.21 won't work - shuts down when you get to choosing a voice part. If you know a fix to this please let me know!

lol well if you and 1 whole other can confirm it dosn't work, guess the rest of us should switch ours off and stop using it then.
Usual culprits for the crash at setup are, no CurrentMap.dat file in the my documents\Tomtom\ folder, just create a blank text document and rename it, (beware of windows xp renaming it as CurrentMap.dat.txt)
Also check you actually have voices installed, they do not come as part of the 5.21 installation file, your supposed to get them off your original CD's.
Hi Greg,
Indeed that looks like a nice unit @ a competitive price.
I cant coment further on it since its just unknown to me.
The holux though... very nice looking unit (not that it makes a diference on efficiency), does last 10 hours on the go,... on average from inside my glove box it picks up 7-9 sattelites (fixed) and as for the size its only marginally bigger than the nokia battery that it uses and it has 20 channel (if it had 32+ it would not work any better) price wise..one has to shop for it to get the best price and as a guide sellers on ebay at its cheapest are only making under £8 profit ...I give this 10/10 excellent.
Plz dont take this as blaging towrads what i got but just my 2 pence worth towards your questions
In regards to 5.21...I am also using the latest CE and it works flawlessly.
I have also encotered such problem as yours and a proper voice instalation fro the disk sorted it (you could have a problem if you dont have the latest instalation exe file that seems to throw an error when you have the latest rom on your device.
I have posted so much on these tomtom problems over forums that just cant be asked to repeat myselfe over and over again
If you cant get it going Greg.. PM me and Ill surelly sort it for you in real time talk.
WBR
Thanks for that really helpful post. I can't fault the holux either, or mine for that matter. One of the reasons I bought mine was the quoted fast start times (true) and the fact I can stick it in the glovebox and wire it in to the ignition, with the auto on/off feature it powers up on ignition then and also is charging so should I need to go walkabout it's always charged.
Anyhow thanks re tomtom, I'll give it a go again installing some voices and will go from there I think - be aware you may get a pm ;-)
I'm a hardened TomTom user and have hacked it pleanty in the past so was a bit worried by 6 or so hours of messing not getting it working!
I'll update in due course if I figure it too.
Greg.

TomTom lost by mistake

hello all.
1st time visit..so please be kind..
im in a right mess.....please please help me out if you can.
i have just bought my HTC touch diamond off ebay... all good ..i love it..i used it last night and all was good..i used tomtom for getting to work in my car...all good except it seemed to take a very very long time to find satelite etc etc and work out routes...(maybe 5 mins before i could set off).
Anyway..before this new phone/pda. i was using an old SPV M2000 pocket PC and i had on my memory card a version of TomTom 6 with all the points of interest and cameras etc etc..that worked great with my external blue tooth reciever..
So i thought i would copy my points of interest folder over onto my new HTC .. i managed to completely ruin the version already installed by overwriting maps etc etc and now it wont work at all and tells me to download maps from tomtom..at no-doubt loads of money data connection on the phone..
So then i decided to erase the version on the phone and all other folders i had over-written previously... and then maybe install the version from my old pocket pc.
Now im in a complete state of confusion after reading these posts..
does anyone have the correct advice for me to go forward from here..?
all i want is Tomtom working with speed cameras etc etc.
sorry to start with such a big post.
all the best
vince
tomtom

[Q] please help with finding a navigation software to buy

hey guys
I need a serious help here as I invested in buying this phone after giving up the the iphone, which was pretty easy to use. So i switched to android and bought the xperia play.
But I am now so devastated as I can find one offline navigation software that works as a gps turn by turn software for Israel at all. And I rely on my gps alot to move around, without having a gps software the phone will be useless. Google maps or any software that depends on the internet will not work for me, as I don't have a 3g plan on my phone, so I need an offline gps software
I really need serious help and I am willing to invest some extra dollars just to get one.
Please please help what shall I do
which software you were using on the iphone? most of the GPS apps that are on the itunes store are also on the market...
igo israel, ituran , and non are on the market, please help me in finding any software as i will be in real trouble without having an offline gps.
check out this link:
http://www.geekersmagazine.com/best-android-gps-apps.html
at the bottom you have 2 apps, COPILOT and WISEPILOT
maybe one of these 2 will have Israel maps (didnt check it so i cant confirm)
also i know that there is an app to let you download and use offline maps from google maps (i used this on the iphone in the past) that may work as well
here is a website for offline maps, this will be the best pick, since its free
