X10i overheating problem - XPERIA X10 General

Hi Guys,
seems like my X10i has an overheating problem. I live in the UAE - and temperature is up to about 40 deg celsius here.
I was out trying to add some tracks to OpenStreetMap - running a GPS tracking app. After about 15 minutes of being outside - the phone rebooted without warning. Then I tried again - and same thing happened.
Then I disabled ALL running software - and again the phone rebooted after about 5 min. and continued to do so every 5 minutes. I came home in my 23 deg A/C cooled house - and after about 15 minutes and another 3 reboots - the phone stopped rebooting.
So I think if you use a "process" intensive application like watching video or using a gps with screen on - in a high heat environment - the phone will kill itself. It was not a fault in the GPS software and not a fault in any other "hardware" - but seems like a design flaw.
Juice plotter reports battery temperature of about 55 deg at first reboot and 54 deg at second reboot.
Anyone else have seen this issue?

55 degrees is not normal. Mine is around 27 at standby, and at max 35 degrees during use. I live in .NL btw..

how hot does it get when you watch video?

@ battery complainers

Not able to post a screenshot just yet, but here's the current status of my phone :
Battery on 21% currently
6 days, 4 hours, 0 minutes, 38 seconds on battery
Screen : 33% ( 3 hours, 28 minutes, 50 seconds )
Waiting time 26%
Phone is inactive : 26%
Voice calls : 4% ( 20 minutes, 40 seconds )
PES2011 : 3% ( 31 minutes, 30 seconds )
Android OS : 3%

So basically, 20 minutes of phonecalls, 30 minutes of gaming, 3 hours of turned on screen, and phone's battery is on 21% after 6 days of not charging.
The funny thing is - the battery section isn't displaying the web browsing/downloading I did on Opera in these 6 days ( had internet connection via wireless on my college ), the SMSing I did, and the 20 minutes I watched latest How I Met Your Mother episode.
( the only program I have installed that directly correlates to battery performance is advanced task killer; every time before I lock my phone after using it, I kill all processes running in background, including ATK itself; and of course, I manually disable bluetooth/wireless/data transfer after I'm done using them )
I haven't rooted my phone yet ( I haven't seen any JITs around so I don't particulary need the root yet ), so I can't snap a screen yet, but I'll try to get a friend to come over and take a picture of phone while on "Battery" section.
Hope this helps any future Arc customer.
This is pretty impressive
Did you use stock camera app?
2 days I used it and during the night baterry dropped from 24% to 2% overnight (at about 5-6h)
Today I charged it, used stock camera app. off/on Arc and then it dropped from 100% tu 94% or 95%, so definitely there is something with camera app.
My phone is also not rooted. I also lauch WiFi connection when I have to. It is off by default.
.184 soft.
screen on for only 3 hours just means you have left it in idle 24/7
I get around 2 days of moderate to heavy usage with around 150 MB 3G data every day
The camera app drain is one thing... I deleted some SE stuff which was still working in the background, so it reduced first draining way...I was happy few days, because battery life was cool, after 14 h of use it has about 40% left. Till today, the drainig came back and I dont know why:
I checked running process and there was something like that com.sonyericsson.usbdevice (dont know exactly but something with usb) I closed it and draining stopped...:-[
I suppose this process is related to charging and plugging to usb as the name suggest. Now I wonder if I can froze or delete this app?

My battery life has been increased after rooting and removing bloatware apps & moving all my apps to sd.
The only issue is with the camera, after using it my battery goes up to 40-50 mAh, while im normally on 4mAh. So, we all hope for a software update by SE to fix it..
My battery is awesome. With 3G on, BT on, my Arc lasts at least 2 days under moderate use.
However, it seems that someones really have the battery drain issue. I dont understand why and how to solve it. Just like my X10, I got serious battery issue while I read many posts showing how good their battery time were.

Battery Temperature while streaming radio

Hi,
I got a little bit freaked out by my phone temps this afternoon. I streamed radio using the web browser for 20-25 min and the temp indicator showed 51deg C!!!!
Is this normal temp during this type of usage? Granted that I had to leave the screen on (lowest brighness) during the streaming and that it was hot int he car, still...
Just for info, The phone temp is usually ~30 deg C outside (ambient temp) and 27 inside with AC. While charging it goes around ~39. Are these temps normal? What do you get for this type of usage.
Oh not sure if it matters but I was using 3G+ connection when streaming.
Any input would be welcome.
Streaming like that is using the screen, 3G data radio, cpu to process the audio, and audio amp to give sound output. All those things are bound to be chewing through battery power and therefore creating some heat...
Have no comparison data for you though. Hopefully someone else will confirm their stats.

Thanks for the input. Yes I hope owner will share their experience!
mine is going hot like yours while im using navigation software. first time i was a little afraid, but seems to be normal with some load.
Mine reached 56°c!!! I was surfing the internet and listening to music... take a look at the screenshot i posted
bye
Wow that's hot. are those things supposed to get that hot, it's as hot as my laptop! it's crazy. I guess this is normal temps then.

battery drain

was wondering if anyone notices a significant battery drain with 4.4 on dalvik.rebooting with ART to see if there is a difference.
looks like ART is holding up the battery nicely so far.
I had massive drain with Google Play service keeping the phone awake 98% of the time. This is no longer happening after reboot.
one thing i've noticed with ART besides the hopeful battery improvement, is i cant play games when using ART.that sucks. bsplayer also will not open, just lock up my device.
No problems here. 5 hours screen on time... Loving it.

I flashed factory image of kitkat and I noticed that my phone is getting very hot while charging even when I was not using it.
So I started investigating and I noticed that the processor, which should idle at 384 mhz,is actually staying at 1 GHz(only 2 cores).
I know it can be because of mp decision but then I changed screen off time to 1 mins and still it hovers between 1 Ghz to 1.1 Ghz(only 2 cores) which in turns increases the battery temperature (around 42 degrees centigrade) and may lead to slow charging.I cleared the stats and let system monitor record fresh stats for 30 mins and result was same. I think it could be a bug or some kind of background task which gets triggered only on charging(maybe processes like trimming etc) . I was not able to identify the process as most of the wake lock detector and process monitor apps are not compatible with kitkat.
I used system monitor app to monitor all this. Anybody else facing this issue???
Thank you
NOTE: I restarted after all this and battery level was at 70% and temperature was around 43 degrees after restart everything seemed normal and temperature gradually went to 35 degrees (checked when battery was around 95%).

I experienced a hot phone with my first 4.4 flash but don't have that after reflashing. I get really quick charges. And a nice batt. Life. Still with the same problem though.... I can't play zombie tsunami in ART mode. I'll try uninstalling then reinstalling to see if it works

Thanks for your answers, then my phone not be far to normal temperatures.
My phone in idle aprox 38, when wakeup and open any app 45-50 and more app or more little time (not gaming), 55-60. The problem is that drain battery very quickly and when i extract the batter cannot turn on the phone after, only can turn on if connect the charger.

Phone very hot - discharging rapidly

Hi,
The past couple of days my phone has been getting very hot and the battery is discharging quickly.
I downloaded a CPU temp app and it is showing 58 degrees centigrade.
I have also switched ROMs and the problem persists.
Can anyone help in diagnosing the problem?
