UK User with Czech Phone Advice - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Just found out I have been sold a Czech phone by handtec.co.uk even though I am in the UK and so are they. Seems I can't get Manila 2.5 upgrade unless someone knows where I can get it from - or if I can HTC think it may change my language to Czech. Main question is do I have a claim against Handtec as I wouldn't have bought a Czech phone for the price I paid. Unfortunately I bought the phone in June 09. If I have no claim does anyone have any advice on upgrading a Czech phone please.

Assuming its an authentic HTC you can flash hard SPL and change your ROM to whatever you want.
Not sure about the claim stuff, sorry.

The hardware is the same no matter what country you buy it from (assuming it's not a copy) You can download an official Eastern European manila 2.5 rom here: sunnysoft.cz/htc/ (it will be in English by default)

I too was sold the Eastern European (EE) version by Handtec. They claimed that they could legally source any unit from one EU country to another without breaking any consumer protection law. Not sure they are right but don't have time to contest it.
However, the EE versions also support English and you can upgrade from the relevant country site and still read it. Happily the upgrade itself has an English title even on the Czech site. I think you are prompted for the language you want when you run the upgrade - I've certainly done it without any trouble.
The only two issues are:
a) upgrades for minor markets (e.g. EE) lag behind the 'major' ones by some weeks (and I suspect some won't appear at all);
b) some ROM applications appear with EE defaults (eg the clock comes with Warsaw and Budapest times not London, Paris, New York).
b) is trivial but a) can be a pain. I certainly won't be buying from Handtec again as I think this is a con.

If they ship to Spain you will have to pay UK VAT. Both the UK and Spain are part of the European Union.

You might indeed get a good deal, since for export the 16% German VAT is deducted, but of course you pay shipping and Singapore VAT. During my Asian travels for the last two years I noticed that prices in Germany are much better than in Asia, wonder why - these boys toys are made in your backyard
Unfortunately this respected online shop of a large trader only sells within Europe, at 501,12 Euro incl. VAT: http://www.handyattacke.de/cgi/websale6.cgi?shopid=etronixx&subshopid=attacke
But even Amazon Germany is not far behind, at 519 euros: http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000JWEAL4/idealode-21/ref=nosim
My local shop promised to match their price, in case I buy this baby...
I made a cancellaton, why? simple, I ordered last saturday and today I don't have the device. I made a call phone to Portugal and they told me the device is in Portugal yet. So, tomorrow I'll make a trip and at the end of the week end and international trip for long term.
Bye, bye Trinity.!!!! I'm so furious.
>lucas0511 - hehehe don't understand german at all so will give the website a pass thanks anyway!!! but although the price is quite a figure in my country i can have a gurantee in which i would not have if i import from overseas, if the set gets damaged along the way to Singapore it will be a major headache for me already hahaha so will stick to buying the set in SIngapore instead!!!
Where to buy the Trinity in the UK
Hi Guys just to let you know that I popped into Inkino in Central London and they have the whole HTC range. Picked up the Trinity. Good thing is that I was able to try it out and get a feel for the unit. Something that the web experience lacks! What also amazed me was that the also keep the Dell x51v and the Fujitsu Siemens n560 and T830. Thought that I would would just mention this as I thought that these units were only available for purchase on the web. Inkino are at www.inkino.co.uk and their store address is 243 Tottenham Court Road, London, W1T 7QS. What also is useful is that they have a Russian speaker (useful for me!) Their other staff include fluent Chinese and Spanish speakers. I have become a fan of shopping in a shop again! Hope this is useful for anyone struggling to find the Trinity as I know some online sellers had run out of stock.

2 Leo models (T8383 vs T8585) ?

hello!
i am ready to order my hd2 (Greece is where i am located.)
So, after searching some greek eshops,i seem to find 2 different versions of the hd2 and i am confused.
There seems to exist a T8383 model and a T8585 one.What's this?Anyone knows?
http://www.skroutz.gr/s/94970/HTC-HD2.html
T8585 is the HD2 that I have.
The other could be the test phone, or a other branded phone (T-mobile etc.)

T8585 - HTC HD2 (not "Touch" any more, also known as Leo).
T8383 - WTF???
In theory it could be cut down version. But apart from Czech republic and Greece no one seems to have that sort of number. Could it be something like HTC made in Greece?
More
I am concerned.
I already own a touch diamond greek. The company that alters the software (translation etc) is ace hellas i know. This is not the case in this T8383 model.I was about to buy it but then i thought i would post here the question. It is 50 euros cheaper than the eshops selling the T8585 and also the T8585 is not expected here in nothing less than about 20days.So could this be a test model or something like you mentioned before?
Perhaps when it was know as Touch Pro Three?
Sould i avoid it you think and wait for the T8585 model?
how much does the hd2 costs in Greece? In cyprus is estimated 685 euros!! i think i will be buying mine from Germany in December...
btw both my Polaris and HD where also customized by ACE Hellas and they also seemed to be more expensive than in any of the other shops, I just fell for the salesman trick that only the ones customised by ACE Hellas are under HTC's warranty, which seems to be bull****!
sorry i missed your link on the first post... they are even more expensive in Greece!!! why dont you buy from abroad?
what about expansys??? http://www.expansys.com.gr/d.aspx?i=188868
its an english version of it
About 700 euros here and big stores like www.plaisio.gr say it will be available late november to december, and the T8383 model costs 650 and is already available. i will probably wait

i don't believe there would be 2 versions of the same phone, unless branded like vodafone or something.... or it could be that the seller did not read his notes very well... i mean 3 can easily be misunderstood to 5!
Maybe the T8383 model is the one with dots on the screen
No it's not a branded version, that's what i tried to explain before.I have to buy from a greek eshop because vodafone gr gives me some money i don't know the word in english, money discount for buying a new phone and shops like expansys.com or other do not cooperate on this with vodafone gr the said
i am beginning to think it's a first version of the phone probably, though it could be wrong spelled,a number "5" turned to "3".
Thanks anyway,i will wait and pay 50 euros more,i will give so much money,i have to be sure not to buy a beta phone version or anything

Nope, I've got a T8585, and it's got dots (Well, actually they're lines in a diagonal grid pattern with dots at the places where the lines cross).
But yeah, maybe the T8383 is one of the prototype (Those that said Pro.Three) or pre-retail (The ones without the pouch, MicroSD card, etc.) models, or just a random name for a model that doesn't differ at all.

legally they shouldnt sell you a beta phone and get away with it, so dont worry
*I believe* the difference is only down to the radio frequencies that 3G HSDPA data runs on.
One of them probably does 900/2100, the other maybe 850/2100.
i called the company today (one of the companies that sells the T8383 model).
They said that tha package was the full one, including an sdcard etc.
When i told them about the T8585 being the official one mentioned in the site, they replied that perhaps there is a type error.Could someone made this error and then 2 or 3 sites just copied it wrong?
The description in all these sites selling the T8383 is the same (copy-paste)
So should i just buy it?
I can hardly wait another one for the T8585 sites.
I wll also try to contact htc
how to find that number on the phone?
Linuxmaniac, unless you got a serial number from one of the T8383 models, don't bother contact HTC.
I already have, and they need a serial number in order to verify if the device is real or fake. they didn't answer the most important question - if there's a T8383, or not.
I contacted htc. They replied and said that there is only a T8585 model and i should only buy from original retail suppliers of htc in greece.
The site is not included in this list for Greece.
Also, the site after i called them changed now the model name to T8585 and put up the price 20 euros.
Still its 30 euros less than other shops in Greece and most important for me it is available.
So is this 30 euros just some sort of tariff for the buying from the "original" supplier?
Maybe this was all just a type error?
Some shops could lose clients easily afterall.
I think will order mine from this shop and then send the serial number to htc.
Do you agree?

Why not asking the shop to provide you a serial from one of their devices, before you're actually buying it?...

Purchasing HD2 in Singapore, using it in South Africa

Hi all,
I have a question that I need answered fairly urgently. I'm in Australia at the moment, and I'm due to fly back to South Africa fairly soon. I'm flying through singapore, and on my way out here, I saw that the airport shops in Singapore had the HD2 available. I'd like to purchase it when I pass through again, but I'm worried with regards to warranty and repairs and so on. While the price in Singapore is very good, might it not be better to buy at home in South Africa, where the warranty covers any repairs and so on? Any ideas?
Thanks,
David
I live in Thailand and had the same dilemma when I bought my Omnia about a year and a half ago. They were available in Singapore and we didn't have them in Thailand yet so I went ahead and purchased it in Singapore on a business trip and I was glad that I did. Although they showed up in Thailand about a month later I had already been enjoying the phone for one month and I never had one minutes trouble with it. Now we have the HD2 in Thailand and I just upgraded from my trusty Omnia last week. So far so good, I'm very happy with the HD2 and really enjoying that huge screen and the speed.
Aother question I have is regarding ROM updates and so on - will I be stuck updating with Asian ROMs, or will I be able to install the correct ROM for South Africa?

If HTC has a service center in your country they will try to repair your phone and only send it back to the country of origin if they are not able to repair it. I got this information from HTC's headquarters in Taiwan.
When HardSPL is ready you will be able to flash to any ROM, but flashing to an unofficial ROM would void your warranty. You would have to flash back to the English Asian ROM if you find you need to use the warranty.
Hope this information helps you make your decision.
Thanks for your answers. Still not sure what I'll do about it - the price in Singapore is about $200 (US) less than at home, but the warranty is something that is worrying me, as is the ROM issue. How hard would it be to reconfigure an Asian ROM for use in South Africa? Or would it be easier to flash it when HardSPL is available? If flashing, would there be a specific ROM for south Africa? And if so, where would I get it? Sorry for all the questions, but it is a lot of money, so want to make sure I'll be getting the right package.
Thanks all!

The warranty should be no huge problem other than if you flash to different unofficial ROMS. The English Asian ROM should work fine in South Africa, all you might have to do is configure your cellular network, but usually just putting the SIM card in should work. If there are any special ROMS for South Africa it would come from your carrier and you should be able to download ROMS from their website. To easily do that though you will have to wait for HardSPL and SSPL to come out, as you would be flashing a ROM with a different CID (Country Identification), or use what is the Gold Card mehtod now available.
If I were you and could save that much money, I would go for it. XDA Developers will also be great support for you when you have questeions.

Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 shopping in store? Austria, Hungary, Germany ...where?

Hello,
In my country (Serbia) this phone will show up for maybe 2-3 months or later. I can't order online because importing is too complicated (radio frequency etc..blah blah..) so I would like to buy this phone somewhere in Hungary or Austria. I will go on trip for few days from 3 july. Can anyone tell me is there any store in Austria (can't read germany) like vodaphone shop or something to buy this phone. I will visit Austria and Hungary. If there any place please let me know.
I made contact to this website
http://www.zippzarmobile.hu/
and they told me for 20 days they will have it but I need before that because I will be on trip before that.
Why is importing difficult? Amazon.de has it already in stock, sells it for 484,97€ (the 8gb version) and it uses the same frequencies as everywhere else in Europe. They charge 6€ for shipping to non-EU european countries, which includes Serbia. If you have difficulties navigating the amazon.de page, use www .amazon.co.uk as a guide, they look the same.
To look for stores in Vienna, see: geizhals.at/a535151. html. currently, nobody has it in stock yet. I bought it last week at an A1 outlet, but they only have branded versions.
In Hungary, i have also seen some ads, like www .220volt.hu/Samsung+GT-i9000+Galaxy+S+8GB , but it is expensive, almost 100€ more than in Germany or Austria. This was the same with the HTC HD2 back in 2009. It was available in Budapest some weeks before in Vienna, I even went by the store, but it was way too expensive to not wait for one or two weeks longer.
So I would recommend to use amazon.de. They have very good customer service if the device should turn out to be faulty and ship very fast. If mail order is really not possible, check out the geizhals.at/ a535151.html page for Austrian shops: if any of them turns green, it means, that they have it in stock.
importing is very difficult because they are asking me for some document from radio regulatory agency + for new products you need to make some test in some special facility + will cost me like 400euros....for 2 phones.
Anyway I ordering online a lot ...but when you order something with radio frequency that is ....really hard.
I will consider this Hungary. Thank you!!!
I bought it with 381GBP at HandTec UK
I would say it depends on when you will be in Austria. At the moment the phone is just launching, so most stores handle their pre-orders first. Here in Germany more and more shops claim it "in stock" so things seem to relax. But for now I can't find a shop in Austria. Are you in Austria before or after July, 3rd?

Language list

Hi,
i'm considering getting a Galaxy Tab, but there is a huge price difference between Amazon.co.uk (~560 euro, 1 year warranty) and local shops here in Slovakia (670-740 euro, 2 year warranty).
My question is if the version sold at Amazon.co.uk does come with central european localization (Czech, Slovak, Hungarian) or not. Before someone says "Ask Amazon.co.uk" - i did it, and they pretty much said in their own style that they don't know and sent me the link to Samsung UK website, which of course doesn't have this information.
So if any owner of a Galaxy Tab from Amazon.co.uk could make screenshot(s) of languages in the Settings>Language & Keyboard>Select language menu (or something like that), i would be very happy.
Thanks
Language support is not a dealbreaker for me, but could be a major factor for a resale value here in Slovakia.
Hey,
sorry, I can't answer your original question, but I might can give you a hint... I bought my Tab from T-Mobile in Hungary. I attached a screenshot from the localization settings about the languages you can choose (to be more precise the screenshot shows only the part of the list you probably are interested in).
As you can see it's quite strange: all the central-european languages appears (polish, romanian, hungarian, etc.) but I can't find Slovakian language, while there seems to be 2 instances of Slovenian. You will know better than me whether it's a typo or I'm just under-educated not knowing Slovenians have two languages... BTW Czech language is also present, which is quite close to Slovakian as far as I know, maybe that can be an option, too.
Bottom line: if this rom is ok for you, you can go for it later, no matter where you buy the tab. Hope this helps somewhat in your decision...
Update:
Ok, I'm an idiot, no matter how strange it sounds for me, "Slovencina" does mean slovak language. Conclusion: Google before you write Pls skip that part of the above post...
Slovencina (Slovenska Republika) = Slovak, Slovenian (Slovenia) = Slovenian. I know the versions sold here in central Europe have those languages, as you just shown me, but i want to know about the version sold at amazon.co.uk, because flashing ROM (even a official one) equals to lost warranty, and i don't want that, even if the warranty is in UK.
In the end, i decided to buy it from Amazon.co.uk. 100 euros is not something i can walk over, even if it means 1 year extra warranty.
I was also thinking about Archos 70 8GB - but it's nowhere to buy (Amazon is out of stock, Expansys can't confirm any date) or Commtiva FM6/N700, but that one has serious video playback limitations.
So in the end, i decided to go Galaxy Tab route, i hope i won't be dissapointed.
PS: Fun note, i ordered Galaxy Tab with one PC game at once. Guess what Amazon did ? They will send 2 items as 2 separate packages. They love to do this, they did it with nearly every order i did so far .
