CDMA is available in those countries but these devices don't support a R-UIM card. You would have to contact those carriers to have them add you to their network. I'm not sure how this would work if you are still under contract with Verizon. The easiest solution is to carry and unlocked GSM phone with you when you travel and use prepaid cards.
Edit: I forgot about Roaming. if you want to pay roaming charges you can roam there. Here is the CDMA roaming table with costs.

That is incorrect. See this table.

cdma phones are limited to 40 countries, nothing in Europe. Useless to import this phone for use in the uk.

GSM phones will not work on CDMA networks. But there are GSM networks in USA too.

HTC EVO 4G use in Italy???

Hi guys,
I have seen so many HTC phones EVO 4G for sale on ebay, I wanted to know if you can use them with Italian cards, because I do not understand ...
http://cgi.ebay.it/MINT-SPRINT-HTC-...ell_Phones&hash=item2313212bc5#ht_2365wt_1139
Thank you.
The EVO 4G doesn't take any "cards". It runs on North American (and a few select others, like KDDI/Japan) CDMA networks. CDMA networks don't use SIM cards.
the EVO is not a world phone and only operates on CDMA technology, which is only here in the US (and Japan actually, but on a diff frequency I believe).
You will need to buy a GSM compatible phone if you want to use it in Italy.
That means anything from Sprint or Verizon is out as they are CDMA (unless it is marketed as a world phone meaning it has dual radios).
You'll need something from AT&T or another provider that uses SIM cards to go abroad.
.. :-( ..
thanks you very much for the support...

[Q] Should I Buy a GSM Phone?

I've been with Sprint for years and have never used a non-CDMA device. I don't want to leave Sprint, but Sprint network coverage isn't the greatest and non-existence outside of the US. Should I purchase a GSM phone as a backup for when I travel to areas I know not covered by Sprint? I'm thinking I should be able to go to a GSM provider and get some type of short-term plan, like a week or month plan. Is that naive?
I'm sure the device has something to do with it, too. What is a best device out there to give me the most flexible support from major GSM providers? I supposed one that at least support voice and SMS, but data for GPS would be good.
Yes it wouldn't hurt you could buy an unlocked gsm phone and just use pre pay sim cards with it! I sell verizon and thats what I usually recommend that to any customers that are traveling outside the country but it applies to everywhere
Unlocked GSM Phone, got it. I just need to find one that supports multi-GSM frequencies. Suggestions? Nexus One?
Prepaid SIM card, now that I'm not familiar with. Is it tied to a particular provider, such as T-mobile, O2, etc. or frequency(ies)?

All Sprint World phones are GSM capable and come unlocked. The one that comes to mind that is blocked from working in the US is the Photon, but Blackberries should work fine.
You could get a phone with both a GSM and CDMA radio. The best phone I can think of is the Motorola Droid 2 Global, which is a good phone if you like slide-out QWERTY smartphones. It's also quite cheap coming in at $320 for a brand new unlocked version.

No because Verizon prevents the GSM radio in Droid phones from working in the US. Blackberries work though. It might be a Motorola thing, I'm not sure about the Droid Incredible 2 (HTC).

Oh I see, that sucks! I guess no-one has bypassed it yet then.
So this would be a reason to get a BB.
Thanks all. Craigslist, here I come.

[Q] CDMA carriers in Spain?

Hey XDA, just got a quick question. Im heading to Spain on a trip tomorrow and I want to take my phone with me. Im on Verizon right now (Galaxy Nexus) and was wondering if there were any CDMA carriers in Spain to connect to. Searched the net but havent found anything yet. Too lazy to call Verizon and thought you guys would be more helpful. If you know any carriers, lemme know and I'll look em up. I always thought spain was a GSM only country but I can always hope.
I sold my old global phones way back when so I dont have anything left to use hah...
There are no CDMA operators in europe (for general phone service).
Unfortunately, Europe is GSM only. Your Verizon Nexus wouldn't get any service there at all. You could only use it for wifi. Verizon would be able to loan you a "global" phone to use there if you want to keep your phone number. However, it wouldn't be as nice as your current phone, it'd probably either be a basic flip-phone or a BlackBerry at best.
Otherwise, you'd have to rent a phone there and get a local sim, but you'd get another phone number as well.

Well technically there are CDMA providers in europe, but not that provides normal cellphone service (forexample ice.net)

Oppo Find 5 carrier question

Is the Oppo Find 5 able to be used on any carrier? I'm currently on Sprint, but may switch to Verizion near the end of the year when my contract is up. Thanks

no. this phone only works on a GSM carrier
Sprint and Verizon are CDMA. completely incompatible
You can only use Sprint phones on Sprint networks, Verizon phones on Verizon networks (some loopholes about using Verizon phones on Sprint if you manage to flash and override the locks)
this is why I stick with AT&T / t-mobile (both GSM carriers), but they aren't that good either( price or service). there are other gsm carriers (but they typically resell service from att/tmoblie)
That's unfortunate to hear. I was really wanting to try this phone. Thanks for the reply
You can't put a cdma card on Find 5. As for 3G networks, it supported WCDMA (AT&T uses it). But if you buy this in China, you may buy a China Mobile phone! China Mobile uses TD-SCDMA (made by theirselves), other carrier never uses it!
WCDMA/GSM or TD-CDMA/GSM in China
WCDMA/GSM or TD-CDMA/GSM in China
i don't know exactly in other countris.you'd better call the service-line for details.

Unfortunately, you can not use it because Sprint and Verizon are CDMA network operators considering that the Oppo Find 5 is gsm smartphone.
