Custom Calendar Repeat Intervals - HD2 General

Hi Guys,
Love the work you've all been doing - I love tinkering with my HD2
One thing I've been looking for is some way to set appointments in the calendar to repeat every 3 weeks. I'm not much of an outlook user, so I'd rather avoid having to set it up and sync the appointments (as I'm guessing would be an easy solution) and I'd like to use the default calendar app if possible.
Anyone know if this is an easy fix?
Cheers
Ross
PS
I'm after a 3 week repeat as it'll allow me to schedule in my shift pattern!

hey mate, thats a tricky one.
in HTCs stock calendar, there are only 3 recurrence options (weekly, monthly and yearly). but if you chose to set your appointments using your PC, then sync your calendars... im pretty sure outlook will let you have more control. keeping in mind... successfully syncing a PPC with your PC using Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center can be a serious challenge.
alternatively, you can try a third party calendar app (maybe ThumbCal) and see if they will let you have greater customization. if you dont want to USE the third party app, you can install it - set up your appointments - then uninstall. hopefully this will have saved your appointments into outlook mobile (which is what powers HTCs calendar).
the third option is to simply set each appointment manually... this may seem like a bit of a monotonous task, but if youre setting 3 week intervals... you could probably set 2 years worth of reminders within 5-10 minutes.
good luck man.
cheers.

Hi, if you are still looking for a shift rota app you should take a look at MobileRota, free to try it out for a month, it works well for me.

WM5 Calendar - Active Appointements

Hi,
I am running Windows Mobile 5 (on a HTC P3600).
On the calendar, is there a way of way of displaying "Active Appointements"
as there is with Outlook 2003 which I run on my Desktop PC and sync to?
If there isn't, does this feature exist in Windows Mobile 6?
I think this feature is a must have. Without it how do you have a snapshot
look at all your approaching appointments? It would take an age to keep scrolling the days.
If its in WM6 I will upgrade
Thanks
Also WM5 calendar doesnt look great with reminding, e.g. only 15, 30, 45mins etc.
What if I want to be reminded 7days in advance so I can buy a gift or send a card. Is this feature in WM6? Or do I have to buy another calendar program? And if so, whats the best one. Nice and simple but functional with not too many bells and whistle.
Thanks again!
You really need Pocket Breeze from SBSH, or SpB Diary.
Both are Today plug-ins that have tabs for the views you want.
I use TodayAgenda on my Trinity. It is a great calender program and you can customize it pretty much to any settings you want. It is also free, so that is nice.
Thanks guys.
For the 3 programs you hav mentioned, do all of them all me to set extended reminders for appointments, say a birthday. Or am I restricted to 15, 30, 45min etc.
Also, which one is the best?
Thanks
Also, if I already have reminders set up on my Outlook 2003 calendar on my desktop pc, say 7days before an appointment, will these settings carry over onto the new plugin program when I sync up? Or is that a step too far?
I would prefer a program that reads my desktop Outlook settings.
Does anyone know?
Thanks.
TBH, I don't know about whether Outlook reminders carry across. I would suppose no, because all the add-on programs still use the underlying Pocket Outlook engine/data.
Pocket Breeze and SpB Diary are both availble as trials, so it may be worth playing. PB is more configuarble, but Diary has a slightly better interface.
Both have a Special tab for recurring events like birthdays, and can be set to display any time in advance. I think they can be set to place the special event on the main diary tab at configurable intervals- 1 day, 3 days, 1 week etc, but I don't know about audible reminders.
Thanks Neil.
Am, I also right in thinking that the calendar in WM6 doesn't offer the reminder functionality that I need?

I've just looked in my Calendar and in fact it does do what you want- this is WM6, but I'd be surprised if WM5 wasn't the same
Open Calendar and go to the day you want to set the Event. Select the time, All Day, etc, then set 'Occurs' box to whatever is the appropriate interval.
Now tap Reminder, and set to Remind Me.
Once that is set, you can tap the left box below to set the integar, and the right box to set Minutes, Hours, Days or Weeks.
So, your example of a reminder 7 days before the event is easy. Hope this works in WM5

This feature exists even in WM5. See the second tab of the calendar settings.
Thanks guys. This reminder feature does work. I will check tonight whether the setting from Outlook 2003 come across in the sync (I'm guessing that they will).
Just a shame you cant see a list of all approaching appointments. That's a feature that I *do* want.

HTC Calendar

Hi guys a question for you all. I work a four on and four off shift. And want to save my shift on and off day's nights to my phone only problem is when i set up an appointment ie day 1 the repeat drop box only offers 3 options and none are of use i need a custom one of every 16 days so i can set my shifts for the year is this possable or is there an easyer way i am over looking?
Thanks in advance.
Can be done but i do this via syncing to my PC, Outlook. With Outlook you can set a reminder / apt to this pattern and HD2 just imports this when synced.
Other way is use a calendar program. For instance i use Pocket Informant and it can set patters like what you describe for reminders etc.
Thanks had never messed with outlook before and thats worked out fine a shame you cant just tweek the setting on the htc set up though.
True but even without Outlook use an aftermarket cal app like Pocket Informant, im sure there are more out there that can do it as well. The inbuilt one is fairly basic so the other ones can usually offer more options as well.
speaking of which...
is it even possible to ripp the HTC Calendar off of the snese? I looked through the windows folder, but there's no HTC Calendar.ink/exe or any other file which could make me happy. I have the sense off, but would like to use the HTC Calendar.
Thanks for any info!

What is the best calendar app??

Hi just wondering if anyone can suggest to me any good calendar application?? Well here in Australia, most people get paid in every fortnight (every 2 weeks), and sometime even rosters are scheduled that way. I need something that can remind you every two weeks. I think the default calendar doesnt have that?? I think it has every third week?? every month?? Also is there anything that will sync with non google?? maybe like outlook??

im using ''pure calendar'' very happy with it
http://de.androlib.com/android.application.org-koxx-pure_calendar-qmwt.aspx
My vote is for Executive Assistant, it has a tabbed windows with calendar alongside missed calls, mails, SMS's and RSS's.
Can all the above do a reminding in "every 2 weeks"?? (eg. Every second Thursday??)
i prefer to use jorte
http://www.appbrain.com/app/jp.co.johospace.jorte
and yes, you can add reminders but max of 1 week
Suggest you have a look at Gemini Calendar - http://gemini-mobile.com/
I believe it has the feature(s) you're seeking.
Google calendar from your browser
How about setting up your repetitive dates from the computer? Google calendar will allow you to set up repetitions as you need them and the customisation of the events is better still than any app that I have seen. I use Pure Grid Calendar and that is still basing itself off of the phones default calendar. I have hockey training on a weekly basis but need to change the times on occasions and I find it eas.ier to do it from the computer as I will still need to check times online

Totally agree... the goggle calender on the PC is still the most versatile and you can set appointments or reminders to be weekly, fortnightly, 3 weekly or whatever you like.
+1 for Google Calendar.
It took me a while to work out how to do it, but basically you would set up a new event on the day you get paid, then choose "Repeats: Daily", then "Repeat every: 14 days". Simples!
The app I like to view/amend my Google calendar is Calendar Pad Pro. Awesome looking widgets for day, week or month which allow you to see what your appointments are. Can also set the start of the week as a Sunday (which is important for me). Even the free Calendar Pad had all the functionality I needed, but I upgraded to Pro because I wanted to support the dev.

Is there a reg edit that ads a fortnightly repeat choice to the pull down menu in the HTC Calender? I had the option on the standard Diamond calendar but not on the HD2.
Work around - Fortnightly remiders/appointments
I've found the following Registry entries, but not sure if I'm on the right track, and don't know what to change it to anyway, but thought it might help someone with better knowledge than me ...
HKCU\Software\HTC\Manilla
AppointmentsEvent (13887035)
Calendar_Reminder (10)
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Calendar\Settings\Shortcuts\Default
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome\Cappointments
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Extensions\ContextMenus\Calendar
I have also found a work-around as I'm not using outlook on my PC so can't do it that way ...
in the TASK MANAGER you can set fortnightly tasks!

Exchange/Outlook issues (email, tasks and calendar)

Ok, I've managed to get my 4 day old HD2 up and running pretty much how I'd like it to be (with a lot of thanks to the Cookie Monster for CHT), which means the Sense UI and everything "front of house" is looking good. However, behind the scenes, things like Exchange (IMO) are nowhere near as well integrated as could be. Here are my issues:
- Inbox is the only folder that shows any emails whatsoever - if I go into any subfolder and do a Menu > Send/Receive > I still don't get any mails appear - WTF?
- Even my Sent Items remains empty!
- Task and calendar reminder appears on-screen = great, but I can only snooze for something like 5 minutes - how can I change this?
- When a task reminder appears on the screen and I click it, all I get is a blank task, i.e. absolutely no info whatsoever. Which means I have to unlock the phone and go into tasks (currently something like 200+) and find the task that appeared, then go in a check out the notes, etc. How rubbish is this? Even on my Tytn II I could check reminders instantly.
- If someone calls/texts/emails and I want to add them to my contacts, they seem to go automatically into Exchange - this isn't good because if they're a friend then I want to keep their details separate - how is this possible?
- Folders appear to show emails from only the last 14 days or so - surely I can change this to 30 days or whatever? No ... ?
- Having come from Android, I'm used to having all my personal contacts in Googlemail - if I export this as a CSV and import into Outlook, will these contacts get lumped in with my Exchange contacts or will they remain "local" to Outlook? I'm hoping the latter because I DEFINITELY want to keep my personal contacts separate.
Bear with me - this is not a rant. I've dabbled with WinMo and Android in the last 2.5 years and the HD2 has the slickest front-end of any phone I've seen (now that I've got it running properly (excluding the faulty speaker which doesn't play any sound/ringing whatsoever - so it's going back for a return)). However, the backend of things like Exchange/Outlook integration seems particularly poor - especially for a Windows device. And this is holding me back from committing to the phone. IAW, I could spend all day playing with the Sense UI (CHT) but ultimately I need the device to serve me as a business tool, and it's just not happening.
Does anyone else have similar issues? How have you got round them?
TIA
SC
EDIT: Another issue with tasks = the options to sort them make it pretty impossible to manage them. I have about 50-75 reminders most of the time and in Outlook I won't use Start Date/Due Date for many of them beecause I'm be updating them all the time - which means I rely on reminders, and therefore sort them by reminder time. But the HD2 doesn't allow this, which means managing tasks - even just having a flip through to see what needs to be done over the next day or so - is unfeasible unless you spend ages updating your Start Dates or Due Dates. Even my Tytn II allowed me to manage them properly.
- Inbox is the only folder that shows any emails whatsoever - if I go into any subfolder and do a Menu > Send/Receive > I still don't get any mails appear - WTF? – Menu – Tools – Managed Folders – Click the ones you want to sync...
- Even my Sent Items remains empty! Tick it!
- Task and calendar reminder appears on-screen = great, but I can only snooze for something like 5 minutes - how can I change this? I don’t use exchange so I’m stuck on this one.
Have you tried S2U2 – you can access the task from the lock screen and go directly to them – may not be the perfect solution.
No ... ? The only way I can think of - at the moment – is through activesync – there is an option in the mail setting to the time for the sync’d mails.
– From my dealings there is only one contact file – and you can only sync to the main contact file in outlook. I removed all of my business contact into a new folder in outlook – now they aren’t on the phone. If you want both I could only suggest using the categories. But even then you will get a very long list of all contacts. Not sure how else you could deal with this using the standard software.
Limited Help Sorry! But I hope some
Thanks for the tips Neville.
I didn't even see the Tools option for managing folders - everything is now sync'ing very nicely
Had a look at S2U2 but like you say, this isn't an ideal fix. I'm really looking for a better task manager - and at least one that lets me launch task info when the reminder alarm goes off. Is that too much to ask Mr WinMo/HTC?
Can't get Activesync to do anything other than sync 14 days or so. Ar5e, but not the end of the world.
I don't mind work and personal blended together in a single contact list - what I need to be sure of is that my personal contacts are not being dumped into my (Exchange?) works contacts. Like I say, Android managed this perfectly with Exchange and Googlemail, but WM doesn't seem quite so accommodating.
Cheers

If you go into the options for the calendar there is an option for the default snooze time. Also you can set the reminder time on an individual basis when the entry is created.

It depends on your version of exchange. If it's 2003 it's hard coded to 7 days and can not be changed. IIRC, in exchange 2007 and exchange 2010 this can be changed. Ask you IT department to have a look at it.

It depends on how outlook is configured on the PC. If you have a profile for exchange and a profile for everything else or simply multiple mailboxes in the same profile you can create the divison there but you can only sync one mailbox over the air and this is always the defualt exchange mailbox.

Just set the start date for the day the job was created and really long due dates then set up a reminder for every 6 hours or something.
You do have a really large number of on going jobs and you really should be managing them better when they are created. I'm not defending WM6.5 here but it's not entirely a software issue, imo.

Iphone to note, 1st time android user

Just upgraded to the note from iphone 4 (ios 5).
Although the obvious flexibility with android is instantly obvious, I guess there are some workarounds for the other things that the iphone (apps) do beter.
Here are some questions I have, if any experienced android users wouldnt mind answering thanks: -
1) The stock calendar isnt very good, what is the best alternative?
2) Relating to above, any way to sync with outlook calender?
3) Anyway to sync contacts with outlook?
4) How do you set the email to delete from the server (IMAP)?
This linking with gmail and google calendar seems as bad as having to have Itunes installed

Good on you for taking the Android challenge.
I rather like the S-Planner.
Syncing contacts with outlook is possible a number of ways.
If you export a contacts.cvs from Outlook and import it into gmail/contacts, these will then sync with the phone.
There are number of expensive apps for syncing Outlook.
I ditched Outlook when I went to Windows 7 and now use Windows Live on the pc.
BTW, I never use gmail for email, but only to access my Youtube account, and now to sync with google calendar.
It is possible to sync with MS windows Live calendars and contacts too.
You can get a hotmail app for this.
I find syncing to google really easy, much better than MS activesync.
I frequently got duplicates and / or wiped my phone with activesync.
And nothing could be worse than itunes.
Never owned it but have often tried to help others with issues.
It's a trojan piece of #@!*.
Delete emails from the server is in settings for the account.

Ahhhh exciting times, I'll never forget my first Android phone, after years persevering with good old Windows Mobile. Your in for a treat
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I've been using Android for just over a year and when I looked for satisfactory sync options for Outlook 2003 - contacts, calendar, notes and tasks - the thing that seemed to fit the bill best at the time was gSyncit - http://www.fieldstonsoftware.com/software/gsyncit3/.
It's paid software with a one time cost rather than an annual charge. In terms of syncing reliably I find it to be very good. Everything goes where it should, both backwards and forwards, and I don't get duplicates or missing entries. I bought a copy for my girlfriend as well when she bought an Android phone a couple of months after me.
There is a problem which has prevailed on and off pretty much since day one, for both of us, and still hits occasionally. That is an inexplicable failure on startup, leading Outlook to want to disable to addon. Usually it can be fixed by closing and restarting Outlook, although sometimes it need three of four attempts before it will play ball. Nowadays the occurrence is fairly low, maybe happening once a fortnight or less, and that's with the software used seven days a week and for most of each day.
Once you have your stuff in the Google cloud, whether you choose to access it there or not, Android takes care of syncing from the cloud to the phone and back again.
There are other possible options including Kies for Samsung owners, or free software such as MyPhone Explorer - http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php.
What I like about gSyncit is that once set up it sync automatically in the background and is entirely hands off in operation. The other solutions I've seen appear to require a deliberate action to connect hardware together and initiate a sync operation. Regarding the stability issues I've experienced, I've downloaded several upgrades over the year or so I've had it, but those were all for V2. A while ago a V3 was launched, with a small premium for the upgrade. I haven't bothered to upgrade as I find V2 does all that I need, but maybe it fixes that little stability issue my girlfriend and I have experienced.

S planner...
your probably right about the standard iphone calendar but I was used to using "week calendar", the best calendar app ive ever used, Ive been in touch with the Dev and it may come out for android...
Another excellent app I used on the iphone was "notebooks".
This is soon to be out on android and desktop (with dropbox sync). Cant wait for that one, for now I use colour note.
One thing ive found in the last 2 days, the apps for the iphone seem far better.
Ok, ive solved my first problem (calendar) and hopefully make the switch to android easier for some other people...
On the iphone, upgrade to ios5.
Sign up for icloud and get a .me email address.
sync your iphone with icloud.
download the desktop icloud app (syncs to outlook)
(ive been using this for a while now and its 100% reliable so far, you can also ditch itunes for good then)
install "caldav-sync beta" on android phone.
using icloud server details, set up a new sync connection.
the icloud server details can be found here
now you can make a gradual transition from iphone, desktop (outlook) and your android phone while keeping the 3 in sync.
You get 5gb free space on icloud, more than enough for contacts and calendar and the android app is around £1...
To add to this, you can do the same with contacts using "carddav-sync beta".
However im only getting 25 of my 300 contacts synced for some reason. I need to fix that, anyone have any ideas why?

Interesting you say the S-Planner is as good as iphone's calendar.
I really like it.
I would like to customize the colours, but you can't have everything.
Maybe a mod will appear in the Themes section for this.
I hope you have a good experience of the SGNote.
You might find it different, but I hope you enjoy the freedom and power.

Please go easy first time post. I am also looking to go to a note from the iPhone4. One of the only reasons to keep with iPhone is week cal app. I too asked them about an android vesion a few months ago. Week calendar is the best calendar app. I've tried all the others including Jorte etc
Made the Same step from iphone to note and I think the calender are at least equal to iphone (used saisuke, calengoo,...) but due to the fact that I sync everything over Google, it's easier with an android device.
If you need outlook I recommend, as mentioned, gsync, too. Is about 10 bucks per licence and syncs from contacts to tasks everything but slowed down my office 2010...

Guys Guys Guys...
There is an easier way of doing this. For free... I follow this approach & it works like a charm.
1. Download Google Calender Sync from this link: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
2. Install the program on your laptop/PC. Set it up to sync outlook calendar with your Google Calendar at whatever frequency you want. I have it set to 30 mins. This way, your Google calendar will sync with your Outlook Calendar.
3. On your android phone, setup your calendar to sync with google calendar. This way, all your 3 calendars, Outlook, Google & Phone, will be in sync all the time.
I have never needed to sync my outlook contacts with my phone, so I have never tried that. If I do come across some info on that, I will let you know...

Please go easy first time post. I am also looking to go to a note from the iPhone4. One of the only reasons to keep with iPhone is week cal app. I too asked them about an android vesion a few months ago. Week calendar is the best calendar app. I've tried all the others including Jorte etc

Hi, did you tried out business calendar? it's really brilliant i think. I just looked at screenshot of week calendar app. Looks like the business calendar week view, wich is great i think.
i use it together with a tiny but powerful app, quick addroid, wich lets you add everything in batches.

My main use for my phone is my calendar and notetaking. The S planner maybe as good as the STANDARD iphone calendar but that is pants as well. There is nothing on the android market comes remotely near week calendar I'm afraid.
Same goes for notes as we'll I'm afraid. Nearest you can get to notebooks for iphone is note everything pro. Still way off in function and sync though
As for sync. Use icloud and the desktop app to link to outlook if you need to email directly from office like me.

The problem with this approach is that google calendar sync has issues with not syncing certain formats of appointments from outlook to google cal. I googled it and its a wide spread issue with no easy workaround that I was able to find. I got tired of not having all my calendar items sync and just snagged the gsyncit app.
The whole point is to NOT use Google. My way works perfect and supports all the contact formats, reminders etc.
