Few questions which I couldn't find using the search option
1-When I turn the phone to landscape and vice versa, the screen blurs just before auto rotating, is this a feature?
2-How can I see the battery percentage e.g 90% on top bar rather then that tiny battery icon?

I know it's an animation, but the texts and the whole screen blurs out for a second before auto rotating. Can you check it on your phone?
Yes, my second option was downloading battery app, but seems like Android settings only show tiny battery icon.

Yes, it's supposed to blur out before rotating. And the HTC Desire isn't like that.
Download BatteryTime Lite and configure the widget to notification bar. Then you'll have it.

Call life timer? Is that another power option? If so then battery time lite will tell you that amongst other bits of other information.

How is that done? The only option I can see in the settings is to pick your phone model....I'm new to android so I might be overlooking something obvious
Download it from the market mate, then long-press on a blank area of the homescreen > widgets > Batterytime Lite
Connect to the internet using WiFi or 3G. There's a gray bar with a small white triangle pointing upwards at the bottom of your screen, drag it up and you'll see a list of applications (apps for short). Now look for an app called "Market", tap that.
When it opens up, you'll see things to download, initially categorised by Paid Apps (which you have to pay of course) and Free Apps. If you look at the top-right corner of the screen, you should see a magnifying glass, tap that. Here you can search for BatteryTime Lite. You can just search for "Battery" and it'll give you loads more options.
Tap the ones you are interested in, you'll then see a button to install or buy at the bottom. Try the free ones first. To uninstall I usually go back to Market, select the "Downloads" button (same row as "Paid Apps" and "Free Apps" button when you have just loaded up Market), then tap your installed App, and you'll have the Uninstall button.
This is just one of the simpler way to uninstall, there are other ways though.

Cheers - i'm fine with downloading, uninstalling & putting widgets on the home screen but is there a way of placing battery time lite onto the actual notification bar?
Not sure about BatteryTime Lite, but Battery Status has the option to place a battery indicator icon on the Notification Bar.
I've been thinking about this... and having had my handset for 2 weeks now.. and having had the same problems with the battery not last a full working day (if I leave for work at 6am and don't get back till 6..) I, like probably many of us.. became quite obsessed with it.. and wanted to know how many percent the battery had dropped during each half hour... we don't need to know this... we really don't.. all we really care about is.. will my phone still have juice in it when I get home at the end of the day.. and if you want to monitor the phones usage, install juice plotter.. then review it's data at the end of the day.. try it when your spending the day at home and don't need to worry about it running out.. I did that today..
Let the battery run flat over night and charged it this morning..
full charge at 1130 this morning.
9.5 hours later... 76% remaining... after some moderate use throughout the day..
I will become less obsessed when I don't have an issue any more.!!
ditto the recommendation for Battery Status Pro - it's free and works like a charm

I'd like to prevent my notifications and program "badges" (can't think of the proper word!) From stacking up in my notification bar at the top of the screen.
It happens when i have a lot of icons there already, ie wifi, alarm etc. Despite there being plenty of room in the middle of the bar, my notifications all stack into one icon on the extreme left hand side with the number of different programs/notifications shown as a number.
Is there a way to prevent this behaviour and force android to use all the available space on the notification bar?
I'm running Ion r2 on my Dream, although my phone has always done this, with the stock rom and JF 1.5 as well.

Sure, keep the number of notifications low and they won't stack. They stack when you run out of space on the bar. I know you think that there's lots of space, but if you unstack them, rest assured that there are definitely too many to fit in the space available.

Unfortunatly there is no forseen solution to this problem. I experience it as well. I think the best we can hope for are new phones with higher resolutions.

This isn't right. There is definitely space for 4 more icons, yet it stacks with just 2.

I'm on Ionr2 and I have 4 icons (email, Toggle Settings, Twidroid, USB) on the left side before the stacking starts. I'm not sure if it's gone up to 5 or not.

When the phone is in portrait mode it stacks when there are more than 2 items on the left hand side - even though there is space for more items. When in landscape, it shows all the notifications/app icons individually.
Very annoying, since the home screen will only display in portrait mode and wont auto rotate when the phone is turned.
Im convinced there must be something i can do to fix this issue!

I was talking about portrait mode. I'm pretty sure there's a fix since I do not have this problem. However, my home screen does rotate though, since I have dxTop.
Do you happen to have Quick Calendar installed? Even though Quick Calendar did not display a little icon on the top for each item in the list and only say in my "ongoing" area on the bar, when I removed it the stacking you talk about went away! It was driving me crazy too, but it seems like either Quick Calendar or the OS sees each entry, even though it doesn't have an icon and counts them.
Not sure if it will help you, but my phone has been working properly after I disabled Quick Calendar. It's a shame, I like the app. :-/

Genius! Removing Quick Calendar solved the problem - thanks!
I've put a link to this thread at the devs website - perhaps when he has solved the issue he could let us know, so we can go back to using his otherwise useful app.
Never had this type of problem, only thing is that my colors blend together because of the custom theme I am using >.<
Ok, I confirmed with the developer this morning, it is QuickCal, though I guess any other app that hides icons would also have this problem as it is a restriction in the os. Jim (the developer) works for google and plans to petition his employer to make some changes to the way the notify bar works. The os allows the developer to 'hide' notification icons, but they still take up an invisible space.
We should see an update in the next couple of days to make a nicer widget with more info and smaller font size, so this may satisfy me if the widget is decent.

Awesome - I already miss QuickCal and I only uninstalled it yesterday!
To be clear, I am liking ICS a lot, and am happy to see where Android is progressing. Here are a few complaints, however:
-I can't believe they disabled the search capacity button from the home screen. If you remove the search bar, there's no way to search from the home screen. Still hate the fact that the top bar is unusable space.
-Limited items in folders. This is one area which I don't understand why they back-peddled. It's very iOS-like, and it's one of the worst things to copy. Max 16 apps in a folder now. My understanding was that it was unlimited before. This will require adjustment.
-The icons look childish. Wish Google would truly allow customization and let us change the icons like other launchers do.
-Still no ability to add custom shortcuts to the home screen (like ADW Launcher can). Unless I'm mistaken? How do I make a direct dial icon?
-Long pressing Home button for the app switcher feels slow and clunky. It takes a while for the list of apps to show up.
Well, that's all I can think of for now. Still getting the hang of it. Again, overall, I'm really enjoying ICS. The UI is so modern and sleek looking.

i can confirm the button also works for me
I'm loving ICS on the Nexus S, too. However, my battery life is atrocious since the upgrade today. I went from 100% to 4% in less than 6 hours. It wasn't that I was using it or playing with it that much, either. All the settings were similar to what they were on 2.3.6, e.g., low backlight, GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth off, push email on, account sync on. I was getting 12+ hours with up to 20% left on Gingerbread with these settings. According to the battery app, it looks like "Android OS" might be the culprit, as "keep awake" is listed as the highest-ranked battery usage over everything else, including screen, voice calls, cell standby, etc. I've read on other forums about a possible Android OS bug with the SGS II. I'm thinking it might be so with ICS on the NS. Anyone else have this issue? How do we report it to Google so we can get a bug fix?

icons are still customizable, as they are with any rom. The launcher my not let you do it as easily as other launcher aps from within android.. but you can still do it externally by editing the icon files from the flash able rom file.
One small issue I found: Lock sound never plays even when the option is checked. Besides that, I'm really liking ICS. I wish the default widgets were more customizable. (e.g., calendar widget is one row too long, GMail widget is one column too wide) As a person with a severe visual impairment, I find the "Larger" text option a nice touch.

This couldn't be a battery calibration issue with the upgrade could it? I'm experiencing the same at the minute. I seem to recall there is a way to clear the battery stats but I can't remember where I read it.

You can easily resize them by a long press on a widget without delete it, you will see the widget outline get blue with diamond which you can hold too resize.

Oh wow, thanks! By the way, I found my issue for the lock screen: it got switched to None. I guess I forgot to switch it back after looking for the Face Unlock feature.
Speaking if which, looking at other threads it seems this feature was dropped for the Nexus S due to poor front-facing camera resolution. Oh well.
PS: I wish the custom message you can put on the lockscreen was more customizable than one scrolling line.

One thing I noticed is it gets rather sluggish at times. UI is smooth but there are very bad lags. Noticeable with even just the a live wallpaper, you can see it stutters every ten seconds or so.
Also, some apps won't work, Viber for example. It installs but it doesn't work, it just won't start. Black screen.
Maybe I should wait until the official OTA comes available for me, in Italy, through Software Update, and see if things are better? I have an i9020T, though- isn't the update going to be the same exact file?
if your battery life is really bad try turning off NFC and see if that makes a difference. From the Alpha I managed to get about 25 hours (once..) but cannot remember what I changed to get that.
the two complains I have : auto brightness doesn't work as well as it used too.
and google talk signs me out after a while without telling me.
Face unlock didn't seem to make the cut on the Nexus S.

Issues I am seeing so far:
Delayed scrolling when I swipe in the web browser. Seems as if the browser is trying to determine if I meant to click a link or scroll and the delay for the OS to decide is MUCH longer than it was on GB. (Maybe that was intended but maybe they over compensated).
The browser exits (doesn't even force close), just exits on certain websites when trying to scroll.
I hear reports of it being "buttery smooth" and honestly mine feels like it is slower than GB.. maybe that is because of my perception that the scrolling is slower...
Curious to see if this is happening to anyone else...

I need help and advice. I absolutely love the S7 Edge. Had it since the first day it came out. Had the Golden color for a while and then sold it to get the black one. What I realized on both devices is that battery life isn't all that great. Now having said that, before I pass judgement it might be because the apps I use might be at fault. I've monitored the usage in the settings and always saw that 'Android operating system' and 'Android system' were usually on the top of the battery Consumers apart from the odd time that the screen was. They were usually anywhere between 15 to 25%. Recently I also started seeing 'Google play services' on this list with consumption near the 10% and semetimes even higher.
I suppose the apps I use aren't all that different from what the norm is. I tried to see what was keeping Google play services occupied so much. I track my fitness with Google fit as step counter. I deleted that thinking it would help. I now use the s-health built-In step counter. Syncing it with Lifesum. Could this be using so much battery?
According to GSam I get around 4h20m screen on time.
Or am I maybe expecting too much from this battery?
The mate 8 outlasts it by a far margin.
I just think I'm doing something wrong every time I hear a reviewer say that their battery is great.

Hi Hi,
I cleared the Cache of the Google Play services. I honestly do not know how to stop the auto updates. Always on Display is off. Edge screen is Off. Bluetooth is on the sync with my watch.
This is the second phone that does this so its obviously something I am doing wrong....

This is what I did to greatly improve it, you probably already know some of this stuff. Try it like this and you can slowly turn on the features that you miss or want.
Go to Settings>Battery>More>Optimize Battery Usage - Check all your apps to minimize background activity
Go to Settings>Battery - Turn on Power saving On
Settings>Edge Screen - Turn off Edge Panels, Edge Feeds, Edge Lighting (Only if you don't use these)
Settings>Advanced Features - Turn off Pop-up view gesture, Smart Capture, Palm Swipe, Direct Call, Smart Alert and Easy Mute
Settings>Display -Turn off Smart stay, Always on Display, Night clock, Keep screen turned off. Then set the Screen mode to Basic
Now go to the app store and install Nova Launcher and Package Disabler pro. Setting Nova launcher to my default helped out with battery life by itself, plus you can customize more home screen options with it. In Package Disabler hit the 3 dots at the top right then press Disable all bloatware. You can also look on the forums here for a list of packages that are safe to disable, there are also some system things you can turn off.

Thank you so much for taking the time and helping me. As of now I'm getting 5h flat screen on time and battery remaining is 3 %. I'll try these steps and see if I can improve it. Perhaps im hoping for impossible numbers when it comes to screen on time?

No problem, glad to help. It was really frustrating when it happened to me so I know how you feel. The screen on time really does depend on what you're doing though. I can sit there browsing the web or facebook app all day, but If I am playing a lot of games it's like half the length.

I highly recommend not picking to disable all bloat. That will disable stuff you really do need like Samsung Pay etc.

Plug your phone in when playing games or get a USB portable charger. Games sip battery like nothing else.

You are going way too far. Power saver mode is going to reduce performance - totally unnecessary. Disabling edge features... up to you. A gimmick anyway. Advanced features should really have no effect - most only matter when the screen is on anyway. AOD, somewhat of an impact. Screen mode to basic has zero effect. That only changes the color profile...
Would not disable all bloat. Go through the thread specific to this and find out what you should leave enabled.

So the question then becomes..... What kind of battery life would I expect to see? Still using the phone primarily for media consumption and to track fitness. Medium use sees me through the day. But running around 17% at 7 pm. Built in battery manager tells me I have 20 hours on battery. This good or average?

I found a work around of sorts for this. It's not perfect but, it works decent. You'll need to get the free app called "Battery Mix" from the Google Play Store.
After install, go into the app settings (icon style wheel (top right)->settings button will appear underneath). The very first setting at the top will be for the Notification Icon. It will say: "Remaining battery icon displayed in the status bar". Make sure this is checked. Then choose an icon style to appear in the status bar if you haven't already. I prefer the Round Rectangle one, personally.
Keep in mind, if you have a lot of uncleard notifications, it may not show in the second screen until you do so.
This app also has a very nice battery alarm feature that allows the app to notify you by notification and sound (even vibration and your phone LEDs) when your phone reaches or drops to certain charge level percentages. This is very handy to remind you to either plug in the charger, or unplug to prevent overcharging. All the best! LGman

And it's not as if they can't, Samsung proved that with their Note 7 where an update changed the battery icon to green
Persistent notification icon + a tasker task that'll only keep the notification active during screen lock will work. It'll take approximately 13 hours to get it to work properly and not bug out, but once you go through that arduous process for a negligible improvement you'll feel satisfied.
But seriously - this is the only way I can see you getting it done. I'm annoyed that the goddamned STOCK clock app won't show a timer on the 2nd screen, which is such an oversight it kills me.

Doesn't work for me. My second screen shows signal, time, and battery icon. And now I can't control my second window, ta daaaa.
i've been trying to find a way to do this as well. glad to see i'm not alone. i thought maybe an xposed module would do it..
It isn't perfect, but I did make a Tasker flasher for the 2nd screen that displays the current battery % every 10 seconds. Instructions on how to get it into Tasker are in the first post (the instructions are for a different ticker, but they apply to all of them).

I'm confused, I can always get battery percentage to appear on the status bar of all my android phones. It's just unchecked in battery settings.
This thread was about putting it on the second screen which I don't believe is more than 2 years (still plenty of time though).
The second screen is useless to me. They should make it E-Ink or OLED, saves battery.
I rather have a notification light. Unless i'm using it wrong?

You missed the keywords "just the percentage" as in.. hide the battery icon and only have percentage showing... Without the use of an app or root. And it was a generalized statement pertaining to either the main screen or the second.

If you do that then you can't scroll the second screen anymore. At least in my version of Nova.

Yeah. Your right. That's why I disabled it.
Second screen was a brilliant idea. But they came so short on modifications.
So afaik there is no root yet for Sprint, but will this be needed to change the taskbar icons, such as the battery to show percentages and stuff like 3minit battery mod and stuff?

FYI if you want a percent on the second screen Batterybot was recommended by another xda member (sorry don't recall username). It works well except when you have too many statuses showing on the second screen it gets bumped from view once and a while.

I use battery widget reborn (free) for the same purpose on the second screen, However, it's always the first notification on the notification panel and the second screen when the main screen is off. I first used it on my G5 so I would always see my battery life on the always on display. It's also highly customizable with the look of the notification pull down menu, showing up to 10 toggles, and also the ability to show the battery chart without having to open the app.
