Sky Mobile Installation on HD2 - HD2 General

Hi there all, first time post so be kind. Anyway, I want to install the Sky Mobile app so that I can use the Remote Record functionality to record stuff on my Sky box at home. Problem is that whenever I try and install from the CAB file provided on this site, I get an error saying 'installation failed'. If I go to p.wecomm.com/sky directly from my phone I can download the relevant file (SkyMobile-WM6_PPCP-1.2.0.0) but all it does is open up an appearance settings page for 'Today'. Strange.
Ive had no problems downloading and installing Co0kie's Home Tab Editor, BsB Tweaks, Microsoft .NET etc. so I don't think it's me (but I could be wrong).
Has anyone had this problem and resolved it, or can think of something else I can try?

Hi Arpers,
Try installing the attached file.
It works spot on on my HD2.

Hi there Rutster, many thanks for that. It looks the same as the CAB file I downloaded earlier. I used your one instead and it installs fine. Strange. Anyway, many thanks for that.

GPRS Monitor

I cannot install GPRS Monitor from myO2 CD, it says i need to update my ROM, i did a corporate install btw
Anyone else had any probs?
Another forum member had this same problem when installing the ClearVuePDF Reader also supplied by o2 as part of the HTC application suite. He has the MDA, but flashed with the o2 Exec ROMs and then installed in Corporate mode.
From work we did together, it appears to be just the install program that was not validating his device. When I tried a hard-reset and Corporate mode install, I had no problems installing. However, its beginning to look as though a hard-reset does not totally clear the Exec's memory. In his case, I found all the individual files and registry settings needed for ClearVuePDF to run and he copied those to the device. Runs perfectly for him like that.
So I'm afraid you'll have to find somebody with the o2 version of GPSMonitor installed and get them to determine all the files/locations and registry-settings needed to get it to run. Unfortunately I don't have a GPRS connection or GPRSMonitor installed.
Just a thought. Have you yet tried a full o2 Personal mode install on your device? It just might be this action that puts 'something' in memory that is not cleared by a hard-reset, and that 'something' might be what the install program is looking for.
Sorry that I can't be more helpful.
No problem thanks for your help

I did a basic install and I get the same error. Sorry, Not much help though.

Me too. The ClearVuew PDF reader is rubbish! Text misalighed all over - Adobe with pixel doubling is better than this.
Please try this
Could one of you having a problem to install the o2 supplied GPRSMonitor, please try installing the attached .CAB after copying it to your device.
This CAB is extracted from the CD-ROM install program, so hopefully skips the validation stuff. With luck you might be able to get around the failed validation by installing from this CAB.
Note: Even if asked to install to Storage Card, the o2 supplied version (2.3.0 build 600) puts very little there, most goes into device memory. The current version 2.41 from spb will obey the instruction to install to SD-Card, but wasn't reliable when run from there - the monitoring part aborted four times in 10-minutes whilst I was playing with it.
Unfortunately, since I don't have the install problem, I can't test this install out.
It works a treat. Thanks muchly!

Am I glad about that - I was in the midst of trying to locate all the files/registry entries needed for a manual install.
Perhaps I can go to bed now!
I also managed to 'locate' another copy and it works fine, thanks for all the help.

I can confirm this but with other files. After several hard resets (even with the clear storage icon), the pictures I had taken were still there.

Ouch! I didn't realsie it was as bad as that.
The situation is made worse by the backup program I'm using (Sunnysoft Backup Manager) not backing up all the data and settings. Neither does it perform a true restore - just merges the backup with what's there after the hard-reset.
Unfortunately, I'm used to HP's backup applet from the Jornada 928; which performed a total backup/flush restore. Are there any other applets for WM5/universal that really performs a full backup/restore?
Does anyone have this cab please? I have just bought a new O2 exec and am having the same problem with it saying my ROM version is too old!!
sorry ignore that post! Work computer blocked the file out
I am running my XDA EXEC in basic mode. When I tried copying the .cab file to my device and running it from there , still get the problem.
Any suggestions ?
I was running personal mode then switched to basic mode, could this cause the problem.
Thanks for you replies in advance.
Cannot remove GPRS monotr app
I installed this file to test it out om M3000. Unfortuntely I cannot seem to uninstall it now! It doesnt show up in my Program list - How do you uninstall it?
I looked in the \\windows folder and removed all files and shoretcuts I could find, but its still showing up on my 'today' screen with an error.
Any ideas? The registry?
Cheers
rob
Linuxgeek:
I was also getting the ROM version problem installing programs to my SD card on my O2 exec. Since I'd only just added the card and was running the basic installation, I did the following:
1) Hard reset
2) Personal Install
3) Re-install ActiveSync on PC
This did the trick. Thankfully I like the Personal install best anyway, but I don't know if that step was necessary.
Tried it. Still get the problem :-(
My mistake - I managed to install the Clearvue PDF program, not the GPRS monitor program. I'm still getting the ROM version error with the GPRS monitor program, but I've not tried the above download yet.
Anyone got any other ideas to fix this problem.
Shame O2 don't have an update to fix this problem on their website.
I've now tried the CAB posted above by astage and I can confirm it worked for me. Just copy the CAB to your device and then open it to start the install.

When running the cab it gives me;
Failed to install aria htc x.cab
This is on Prophet (Qtek S200) Anyone else seen this error?
kind regards
marl
Edit, downloaded again, works fine now, thx for the cab
Any ideas if this is possible to be mapped to a hard button.....like the ok button on the 750v?
Thanks
I have tried three times on my TyTn but every time the cab file fails to install. I downloaded the zip file, renamed it and put in in my SD card. When installing I got the message Cound not install etc.
Any help available?
I'd suggest you to have a look to the device and try to find out if there is no left files from the former installation.
I've struggled time ago with such Resco things. Maybe it's the same issue.
It's only for Pocket PC PE, or it be useful for WM 5.0 Smartphone Edition?
I have a Qtek 8310. ¿Can I use this taskmanager?
Thanks

Backgrounds on Wing

Is there anyway to change the indialer backgrounds on the wing? I can find some dialer screens, but all I want to do is change the background not the buttons. Also when someone calls I would like to be able to change that background as well. I have searched all over this site and the net and can find nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

No it can be done. I remember reading about it a WHILE ago...but I did a little searching and this is what I came up with. Its called tdial design.

Thanks for the reply, but I tried that and it has an error in the file after i unzip and try to use it. May be I'm doing something wrong. Will try again.

Hmmm, odd. I even redownloaded the app that I posted, unzipped it, and reinstalled it and it worked fine. You are unzipping the file first, and then trying to run the application right? Maybe whatever you are using to unzip could be corrupt. Try winrar or winzip to unzip it.
Oh, you aren't trying to install this on your phone are you? You install this on your computer and run it there, not your phone.
tdial only works if your dialer is the HTC touch dialer that comes with some roms. The default TMo rom doesn't have it. If you want to customize it with tdial, you need to first have HTC touch dialer installed.

HTC Touchflo not installed :S

Hey guys. I bought a clone HTC Touch 3G from Davismicro.com
Basically, I've watched videos on the net and have seen people use these clones, and they come with HTC TouchFlo/Manilla 2D. Mine however, did NOT come with it installed. It just boots to the regular windows 6.1 pro menu.
Normally, I'd email the company but theyre on chinese newyear holiday. Can anyone please help me on tell me how to get touchflo installed on this device?
(If the device is a clone, its a pretty good clone. HTC Branding everywhere.)
EDIT: By not installed, I mean it is not on the phone. So it looks like I'll need the ROM or theme of it somehow. Help pleaseeeeee?

You can easily install TF2D (M2D). If you search XDA, you can get the cab files.
Thank you. Is there a step by step process? (I am unsure what to run/install once I would have the files on my phone.)

You can download the application from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
How to, basically..
1) download the .cab file to your PC and transfer it to your phone.
2) on your phone, run the .cab file and it will auto install.
3) after that, you can leave the .cab file or delete it.
Where is the .cab file on that link? When I click the blue "DOWNLOAD" letters, it leads me to a forum. I don't know what to get from the form. I'm new to all this.
EDIT: I got the cab from a post on that seperate forum on the DOWNLOAD link.
MY only issue is: After installing, the phone just says "Touch here to launch TouchFLO". I have a "clone" of a HTC Touch 3G, and I am running Win 6.1, and the MD2 is what I believe to be the newest version. I've searched here, and people mention to download some shared dll's or something. I have no idea what to do.
I downloaded the .cab file from the mobility digest forum post called "UPDATE 5-29-09 COMING SOON - FIXING ERRORS on Jade Manila 2D Build 1.20.19131520.0"
at "This is the link to m2d cab here: 2DManila_1_20_19131530_00"
EDIT 2: I downloaded cracing's m2d for non htc cell phones. And it works, but it seems kinda slow, and doesnt autorun. (Every startup, I have to enable it again. Any help on this? (The m2d for non htc cell phone is just an .exe that I run.). Plus I need to download like all of these programs to avoid getting errors. :S
EDIT3:Web Browser does not load through cracings m2d, albumsearcher.exe cannot be found, weather says its 36 degrees even though its WINTER (Obviously in fahrenheit. How do I change it to celsius?), and settings has all these blank buttons (which have little pictures of the phone beside them. How do I fix all this?
I am not sure how else to help you. I've installed on HTC Kaiser without any problem.
Your problems could be due to the clone set.
Ive got it all working now. Except I have an unrelated problem. Text messages work fine, but whenever I try to make a phone call it says "Phone: The operation failed".
Ive read online that this is because the phone is trying to send data while making the phone call. I do NOT have a data plan, and data service under the settings is 'OFF'. (I cant even turn it on. If I try, it just auto turns off after.)
Help?
edit: i got it to work. somehow. i had to turn everything off in settings, and then on again. :S Maybe the phone needed data service off eventhough it already was. Hmmph.
i have the same problems as Lyth.
AlbumSearcher can not be found or doesn't have a certificate.
in an older version it worked. but there were a lot of shell errors.
does anybody know how to fix it?

Apps Installation

Helo everyone. I'm new to the forum and to Windows Mobile. I hope this question is in the correct place....don't want to get bashed on my first post. I have searched for about an hour now for the answer to my question but I can't find anything that relates to my problem. I am trying to install a converter..."Pocket Converter 1.50" on my TMobil USA HTC HD2. After downloading the cab file into a folder...a screen pops up that says "installation of Pocket Converter 1.50 was unsuccessful". OK...I then tryed one called "MSS Converter 1.08. Same thing happened with it too. I have successfully installed other apps so I was wondering what might be the problem.
I have had the same issue a couple of times. I think sometimes the download gets corrupted. I just redownload and usually the app will install.
Thanks for replying......I've downloaded these 2 apps numerous times and on different days but still no luck. Do you think I could download them to my computer then copy them over to the phone and install?
That may be a good idea, other than that maybe try and download from another source. I think also some apps have issues with the hd2.
signman, do you have links to the exact cabs you tried, so I can test them on mine?
What kind of converter program are those? If they're for converting units of measurement, I use the uConvert app which works great on the HD2, and was developed by an xda member...I've attached the cab here for you to try if that's what you're looking for.
i used to have this happen to me all the time when i downloaded the cab directly from my hd2. Try using a pc to download it then transfer via usb and install. Hope it works!

Sorry for taking so long to post back...as I couldn't find my post!
The links to the apps I am trying to download are as follows...
Well since I'm a new user....I can't post the links..I got them from freewarepocketpc.net
I finally got the MSS Converter downloaded and installed from another website. Can't remember where I got it. I'm going to try to get your posted cab directly to my phone and try that one. Well that didn't work. Installation says it was unsuccessful. Maybe I have to do it like jfmckenna has suggested. Thanks for helping me out guys...I really appreciate it.

If all these installs are failing, I'm guessing you're either missing the NetCF 3.5, or the sdkcerts cab, both are attached below. These are necessary to run many of the apps/cabs you'll find here and at other sites like freewarepocketpc.net. Just put the cabs on your SD card (I recommend just putting all the ones you install in a folder there for easy reference later), and run each one, then you'll probably be able to install the stuff that was giving you issues.

I've downloaded the cab files you posted but the NetCFv35 says I have to first remove the older version. How do I remove the older version? I know nothing about Windows Mobil...sorry.

Right...I forgot that it was already loaded on the stock ROM, you can skip that signman.
m'lord, I would suggest installing the sdkcerts...it will probably be necessary for you at some point if you're installing any homebuilt apps. I suspect that most custom ROM's would have it built in.

Ok good, I'm glad you got it working (I'd forgotten it wants flash light installed to get it to work). Does uConvert cover everything you need then?
