replacement glass? - XPERIA X10 General

Anyone know if it possible to buy a replacement glass (only the glass)?
I wish to remove the screen protector, but if it get scratches it would be nice if I can buy a new glass and replace it myself.

If there's anyone selling that, the place to look for is ebay.

Why remove it? I tried the phone (did not get mine yet) in different stores and the screen could'nt be more responsive imo. with the pre-applied protector in one store and the bubbly protective film+pre-applied screen protector in the other and there was no problem even with all that applied.. so i dont see the point in risking your glass.. just my point of view.
cheers

The mineral glass on x10 feels like cheap plastic with the protector on.

Real man
Yesterday I have scratched my screen on a rock, so I am a real man.... a crying stupid man.
Anyone have a idea how to replace it?
Is it possible to find and replace only the external glass? The touch digitizer works perfectly.

I thought the x10 screen is meant to b scratch resistance!? I've got little scratches all over mine! :0(
Think due to keys and coins in my pocket! :0s forget sometimes

Guys... did your x10 came with a prea-applied screen protector? Mine came with a prea applied screen protector but i can't seem to remove it. I'll post some pictures.

The screen protector is really hard to get going but once you got a corner it's easy to pull off.
Got no protector on my screen, no scratches at all and screen is much more responsive.

Why on Earth would anyone want to remove it? I've got the one that came with it and stuck another on that I got free with a case, and not lost any responsiveness at all, and as this phone cost me a few hundred pounds, the last thing I would want to do is lessen the protection of the screen.

the glass is the actual digitizer which is glued to the fascia of the phone, i cracked the glass on my phone and repaired it myself, digitizers are available from ebay for around £50 coming from honk kong. The quality of the digitizer is very good btw.

IMO the screen with the protector on was way less responsive, I don't understand why you need one, I've owned 2 iphones before this phone and used with no protectors, not had a single scratch on any, including my x10. Each to there own, but I just prefer to have no protectors on my phones.
I also don't use any cases either!

The OP is on about removing it, leaving it off, then forking out for a new screen if and when it inevitably gets scratched.

You guys just made my day! I had a big F*ing scratch at the center of my screen. Just found out I had a screenprotector! YEEY! its off now..
Need to get a new one!

Double posted?! WEIRD!

Has anyone found one?
I'd like to know how to get hold of a black screen so i can put it on my white x10.
Reduce the grubby look and give it a meaner look.

Scratched Screen!

Somehow i have managed to get a scratch of prob 8mm tall x 1mm wide x 1mm
deep. is the front protected by something or is that the screen?
its hasnt gone all the way through what ever it is. but i can tell its scratched due to
the light when moving the phone about.
Anyway to fix this ie a new front?
screen works as normal.
Cheers Rob.
why would you want to fix? it seems like a minuscule scratch.
Its near the middle of the screen. There must have been some grit on it when i put it in the

I doubt it. It's hardened glass. It must have been something heavy or very sharp. The only fix i know of is a new glass cover or may be a very good screen protector
My N1 got a bunch of hairline scratches from my the old ladies earring, I put a name brand name screen protector on it and they're not visible anymore. So that is an option for you if it really bothers you that much, my N1's scratches drove me nuts because they were right at the top.
I have a scratch on my screen too...It was bothering me at first, but quickly forgot about it.
Not even visible.

I agree and would try a screen protector. I found a Fellowes generic protector was best at hiding a big scratch on an old iPAQ I have. The screen on that is quite different but I don't see why it wouldn't work on the HD2.
Cheers people, I think I have a few protectors at work. only cheap ones. Will let you know if this helps.

I, too, have a nice scratch in the screen. Can't remember what happened, or what would have caused it. When I realized it was there I immediately shopped for screen protectors, and used member reccomendations from XDA forums. I purchased a recommended protector based on those recommendations and some further research elsewhere online. My results? DO NOT purchase the HD2 product from Gadget Shieldz dot com. It will somehow magnify the resolution refresh and create a rainbow pattern on the nice, hi-rez screen. Aarrgh! Does someone have a better product suggestion??

I'm pretty keen on Skinomi protectors, they have a Lifetime Warranty.
http://www.skinomi.com/
The only thing is that the HD2 protector doesn't protect the bottom part below the buttons. Wasn't an issue for me but if you want all over protection go with BestSkinsEver.
Thanks for the suggestion, IC. Both products look the same as others, but if the pattern isn't there (and sensitivity isn't compromised) I will be a happy camper. I'll update on this forum with the results!
anyone tried the ZAGG Invisible Shield? It looks nice on the ads but i'd like to listen from a owner...
I have used the Zagg shield for about 3 months then happily removed it from my HD2, After a while the protector started to get an 'orange peel' effect to it and as a whole it was very reflective. I also didnt like the tactile feel to it, it felt quite rubbery and so when draging your finger across the screen sometimes it would feel choppy in a sense.
I am now using the wrapsol HD2 protector (am currently writing a full review for it so check back soon) but just quickly i love it and alreayd am more than happy with it i dont even know it is on the phone it feels like glass to the touch.

Scratches

Ok, we all have a few scratches on our phones display, some worse than others, but wouldn't it be nice to have a display totally resistant to them. A diamond coating or something.
I know there are screen protectors, but who uses them.

They are luxury phones costing more than 1.5K USD... they make them in precious metals, and some models even come with diamonds. I rather buy new digitizers lol.
Synthetic sapphire would be the best choice, but it's not exactly cheap to manufacture. The iPhone 4 and Dell Streak are probably the closest we have right now to nearly scratch-proof screens.
What's wrong with screen protector?
I use one for my X10.
Cant speak about the iphones screen as I wouldnt touch an Apple product to save my life, but alot of newer phones have Corning's Gorilla Glass. That stuff is pretty bulletproof. Google it to find a list of devices that use it.
I've got two screen protectors on, the one that came with it and stuck on another not realising it already came with one.

Not to flame you or anything, but what is your point of the statement? are you trying to look for help on choosing a screen protector? cuz people do use them
I removed the screen protector that came with the phone and the screen looks freakin' gorgeous without it, but at the same time, very vulnerable. I've bought mirror screen protectors from ebay; they're supersexy but at the same time superglossy and does not help at all when i'm looking at my phone in broad daylight. I've heard about ZAGG's screen protectors and I might try them out once my mirror screen protector wears off but they're quite pricey though Check out endagdet's post on torturing Dell Streak's screen too...it was very painful to watch but the outcome was great: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/29/dell-streaks-gorilla-glass-screen-torture-tested-for-your-amus/
@junkk29: do you know where I can find a screen protector that has a rough feel to it? Made ideal for swyping texts. I think they are called anti-glare but the ones I bought were not anti glare (off of ebay).

To be honest, I have no clue besides the one that came with the X10. I use Swype on my X10 as well and the screen mirror screen protector does not help at all. It's nice but if your finger is moist or wet it can be a little sticky Try searching on the X10 accessories forum, you might find something there. Good luck
i'm kinda regret to take off my original scrn protector, should have just put the second one on top of it!!!

Yes it does and I guarantee you a 100% cuz I pulled it out myself. It's hard to notice it but if you look close enough (maybe with a magnifying glass lol) you'll see it around the corner. I saw pictures of it in this forums but i'm too lazy to look it up again. It's not easy to remove it and literally took me half an hour to get the corners out. Once you get the corners out you can just peel it off, it's quite tough but it doesn't leave any residue. If you're gonna get a screen protector i suggest you remove it too cuz i've heard from the seller that it messes with the touch screen responsiveness.
Picked up some low glare screen protectors on eBay and it's been a month without a single scratch! They are pretty tough, plus they resist fingerprints as well I am not sure I need to buy the 3 pack now... LOL!
I wish I knew who actually made them Cuz they are brilliant!
BTW, the original one is also on. It does not make a difference in responsiveness, in fact due to the surface of these protectors, it's actually even smoother to scroll or swype across the screen.

Screen Protector issues...ok if no protector???

Hey guys ive replaced the screen Protector on my xperia multiple times and its crap.

I wouldn't ever go without screen protector. You need to first remove the factory screen protector, then clean the screen, making sure no dust particles are left behind before u put the new one on.

The factory screen protector is good! Just leave it on the screen
I can say that the screen doesn't scratch that easily, but in my case, it scratched when i placed it inside my shirt's pocket. Apparently the shirt's button did it. The price for replacing the screen around my parts is 60 euros.
I had the factory screen protector for 10 months. Then one of the corners started to peel. so I took the protector off and used it for a few weeks, decided that it wasn't slick enough and I had to clean it all the time, tried that cannuba wax for phones. I spent the money for the Zagg protector. Great packaging, lots of lubricant to spray on fingers and protector allowing you to slide it around until it's right, micro-cleaner cloth and composite squeegee with a grip and lifetime replacement warranty. It works well, no bubbles, and a sort of spongy feel to it.

you probably still have the factory screen protector on... look at the corner, you'll see it.
The actual screen in mineral glass, and there is a video somewhere on here of a guy with a knife going at it and it not scratching.
I took my factory one off long ago, and it made the screen much better. It looks better and is more responsive
I replaced the factory protector with a translucent protector since I dont really like transparent protector.

The original screen protector started to peel off after just a few days. I have used it without protection for almost a year now and haven't seen one single scratch.
I am rather careful with it but it would still be some small scratches if the screen had been of soft plastic.

I wanted to get rid of the screen protectors a few month ago as I was sick of using my ipod touch which had a normal glass screen and then using the crappy x10s.
Well what a mistake that was. The x10 comes with two protective layers so when you think you've taken off the screen protector, go one more til you get to the glass feel.
Big problems for me though, the screen became strange and almost too sensitive. When using the launcher and scrolling it would go crazy, unlocking the phone became a mission.. big mistake. I ended up ordering in another new screen protector as It was hardly useable
On the other hand, the screen did look a thousand times better. Alot brighter and clearer. I would have been without the screen protector for about a week and discovered a small scratch which isnt viewable at all but I did see it. So I would be careful if your planning on going without it.
If there was a way tweak the screens 'sensitive feel' and correct that I would love to go back. Maybe one day it will happen.
The X10 has so much potential and in theory should be capable of doing so much more... but sadly it was made by Sony, you know the rest.

Best Screen Protector For Xperia Play Nu-Clear

Okay I thought i'd make this quick thread to help you guys out. Some of you Xperia users don't realize Sony Preinstalls this screen protector or should i say "Shatter Glass" on all of their devices. Is this good? Simple answer, NOT. AT. ALL. When i took the shatter glass off i noticed an increase in brightness and the phone was more vibrant and so i order this Nu-Clear Screen protector off Amazon And it is the best screen protector I have ever had. It is so smooth and feels like its not even there and the phone is just as vibrant with it as it is without it. This screen protector only cost $3 with free shipping when you sign up for Prime on Amazon which i suggest you do because its free for a month and ou cn just cancel it before that.
Heres the link
amazon.com/gp/product/B005KGBCFG/ref=cm_cr_thx_view
To take off that preinstalled shatter glass i sugest ou use something thin and sharp because it's on there pretty damn good. I used a razor blade and started picking at the bottom left of the phone right by the back button and had it off in no time.
Now when installed the Nu-clear screen protector clean the phone with some windex and a paper napkin then wipe off the phone with the microfiber cleaning cloth and blow away all the dust. Then when applying a screen protector i suggest you peel it off just a little so you can align it up with the top of the phone. Once lined up start pulling back the tab little by little while pushing a card(credit card or whatever) to make sure no air bubbles pop up.
This video pretty much shows you what i mean.
youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=euIPR-yTZrE
Hope i helped because that preinstalled shatter glass was just annoying and was a magnet for scratches!
This is totally irrelevent, but sign up to Jackthreads best site to buy hot brands at up to 80% off fully legit.

So there is a layer that comes installed on the phone already? Nice to know I can remove it because I've scratched it up pretty good and I've only had the phone about two weeks. I haven't even really done anything to scratch it either, so I was actually a little upset when I started noticing them.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Be careful, if you remove that layer you need to put on some other sort of screen protector. If you don't you'll notice that if your hands are moist at all the touch screen won't work properly.

I've used two types, the one that came with the otterbox encasement, which turned out horribly.. had a bubble within the screen protector almost immediately, but that could've been my fault, but i had to re apply it several times, which only seemed to multiply the air trapped between the screen and protector. And I used the standard AT&T screen protectors, which are amazing, they're thick, anti smudge, clear, and since they're pretty thick, they don't bubble at all, really easy to apply too. but it's like 16 bucks for 2.
.. and i just realized that op might just be advertising.
me too man, i smell a salesman.. hehe
I bought the phone and shop gave me a cheap screen protector... now I have smudges of fingerprints all over (oily hands).. but then, still better than naked.
Guess I'll change to matte (anti-fingerprint) type after this. Anyone using matte? Is it good on xplay?
It comes with a protector on it, there really is no need to replace it. My screen is perfectly bright with it on. I clean my screen off a few times a day with a little cloth, looks brand new after every wiping. (im also SUPER careful with my phone, and I hate fingerprints, OCD)
It isn't even a screen protector it's ah shatter glass

Just want to clarify that :>>>> the touch screen is whether made of Glass or Plastic? In case of Glass, it's no need to add a screen protector and remove the pre-install screen protector can improve the screen quality and touch response.

Scratch Proof'ness

I've got a white S3 and I think it's beautiful. However, I went into hospital a few days after having it, and left it in the hands of my brother who used it regularly. When I came home, I found a scratch going from the bottom about 1 and a half inches up the screen. I was furious, but it couldn't have been from regular use, surely? I just assumed a cat had got hold of it, but a little strange that it would be the one scratch...
Anyway, I've been using it for a while and I'm starting to notice more scratches on it... I'm just wondering how everyone else's finding their screens to be.
I mean, I should get a screen protector, but I feel it's too late since it's it won't get rid of the existing scratches. Do you think I could get the screen replaced as it's under warranty? I've never had this problem before with a phone because I've always had a screen protector, just didn't think I would need one with the S3's gorilla glass 2...
Always used a screen protector. sometime they even help hide scratch s on the screen
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
A screen protector can hide some scratches, but you will not be able to claim on warranty because its classed as accidental damage. I would try a cheap screen protector to see if it hides the scratches before contacting Samsung.
Ah okay. So a warranty only covers faults with THEIR hardware and not due to something that I've done, say I were to brick it some how, no warranty cover?
But I shall have to try a cheap screen protector and see what it does. Just a shame that these scratches seem to build up on it. I thought it would hold up better. I mean, my brother owns a Lumia 800 which has no scratches at all, although I suppose the screen is quite a bit smaller so not as vulnerable.
my local samsung service centres replaces screen cracks/scratches the first time for free. maybe you can try to ask them? no harm in trying
No harm in trying, that's for sure!
But best make sure I have a screen protector ready anyway!
Thanks for your input!
I doubt you'll get it fixed under warranty but if you serious about fixing the scratches you could pay to get the scratches ground out and will be a Hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new screen at at least $250.

That will not work... If you remove any of the screen surface, you remove the layer with the potassium ion substitution in it. All you will do is expose the softer (much) vanilla aluminosilicate under the hardened outer layer.

I think the words you looking for is the Oleophobic coating.
And yes I did consider that but he is talking about using a screen protector after it's done so grinding the surface to the actual Gorilla Glass won't be an issue, and I've heard of plenty people doing this using simple grinding and polishing tips on a multitool and grinding paste but it's probably best to get someone who knows what they doing to do it right.
I've had mine since mid June. I do have an otterbox and a few other cases that I alternate between. However, day today for the most part I use it without a case. The screen is still flawless.

The only scratch I've found on my S3 is on the camera lens. It's on the very edge between the open clear lens and the black boarder. Oh and a few markings on the battery cover. Nothing to serious.
