SLegend in the US - Legend General

So I know this is probably a easy question that I should know the answer to but I need to ask it anyways. I want the legend for my sprint line.is there a way to make this work?i have always had gsm phones. My fiancee has sprint which is cdma and I really want to get the legend for her but I see its only available in europe. Thanks for the answers in advance.

go look at what bands the sprint network use and then look up the legend at htc from the country of import if they match up then it will work
however most networks use 2100mhz for metropolitan areas and the legend supports this

djunio over at Android Community forums posted this today - might help

hey vonne thats cool but i never heard of them are they a wireless company? i much rather buy an unlock or do some of the things i said in the original message
you can buy unlocked phones off ebay. i sell some there. if you buy the Sprint I don't think it will work on Tmobile even if you unlock it because Sprint uses CDMA and Tmobile is GSM. If you buy an unlocked GSM phone it should work on Tmobile. I had a different unlocked GSM phone while i was in the US this summer and it worked fine.
ok csasek but im talking bout the hero/ G2 touch not any other phone i jus want that one there so many smart people that hav info on this phone an none can help me?
the only place you can get it unlocked is on ebay for about $550, and yes it will work in the US...any other specific questions
You are aware that the G2 Touch will not work with 3G in the US? If you buy one, you will be restricted to EDGE at best. As has been already stated, the Sprint Hero can never work with T-Mobile US at all.

Dave

why doesn't the Hero work with US 3G? what frequencies/technology do ATT & Tmobile us for 3G? I thought that Tmobile was using WCDMA/ HSDPA which should be compatible and that ATT uses HSDPA too.
I honestly don't know what all these things mean so if you could provide some insight I would really appreciate it. Since I sell these on ebay I like to be able to answer these types of questions.

Yes they do, but the important thing here is that these services can be offered over several different frequencies.
The "worldwide" Hero (as opposed to the Sprint one) only supports 3G (HSPA/WCDMA) at 900Mhz and 2100Mhz.
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/specification.html
T-Mobile US's 3G network runs at 1700MHz, and ATT's 3G at 1900MHz. Neither of these 3G bands are supported by the radio in the GSM Hero, so you are stuck with 2G/EDGE speeds.
Regards,
Dave
Thank you very much for the explanation
im sure there is a radio update in the development section somewhere???
this would alow US users to have 3G but they would require root in order to flash the new radio
There is no radio ROM update at present which will make US 3G bands available, and there is no evidence as yet that this is a ROM and not a hardware restriction.
If I were interested in pursuing this further, I'd probably enquire in the Magic forums if it possible to flash a MyTouch 3G radio onto a European Magic to get 3G working with T-Mobile US.
Regards,
Dave
So what phone should i get? the out of staste on with chin? or the sprint one? dont care for looks cuz im ok with both jus sayin most price efficient and easier to unlock

Help on Getting 3G on my AT&T HD2.

Was given the HD2 and I don't want to switch to T-Mobile here in NYC.
I have no tried to do anything other than check out the connection settings but I come to these forums and I know someone here must have a clue.
Do I need a new radio? is there something in the connections I need to change?
Anything to make it faster is greatly appreciated.
if u have the euro version it is impossible nothing u do will get 3g sorry
I have the HTC HD2 T8585.
Nothing can be done?
i'm not very up on gsm bands, but heres what the 8585 tech sheet says
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
and heres the coverage for at&t
3G 850/1900 GSM850 GSM1900 (i think?)
which means you will get edge at 850/1900GSM but not HSDPA/3G (although edge is technically 3g too) on UMTS900/2100.
So, sadly, edge only for you m'afraid. (unless i got my bands wrong!)
You are correct samsamuel.
SaintlyNYC, If you want 3G, you need to pony up for an Australian T9193 like the rest of us
Or switch to TMobile, your choice.
If you wait 2-3 days, I might sell you mine!*
*Bah, but what would I do for a phone? Go back to my Excalibur?! It'll be like living in the dark ages. All the other WM phones have crappy resistive screens, damn [email protected]
900/2100 wont get you 3G on T-mobile US either.
His initial statement was ambiguous. "Given a HD2" "don't want to switch to Tmobile"
I'm just assuming he got one of those pre-release HD2s.
Yes, I got a pre-release from Microsoft. Love the phone and not really a big deal if I don't get the 3G. I figured if anyone could tell me whether it was possible or not it would be this group.
I just didn't expect to you dash my hopes so fast.
I am using HTC HD2 T9193 it works very good with AT&T 3G. HTC HD2 T8585 does not support AT&T 3G.

We crush hopes and dreams here at XDA
Speaking of crushing hopes and dreams, no chance that special MS pre-release has WP7S, is there?
No, sadly not. I got the HD2 just at the start of February. I am hoping it will still get WM7, been hearing a lot of tales that it won't because of the # of buttons on the front. 5 buttons and not the 3 that they prefer.
We'll find out tomorrow... maybe.
BTW, what is your phones model number? Go to settings, about phone, phone identity - it should say the model number there, I think.

Hd2 on at&t

I have a hd2 tmobile usa version, i need a At&t friendly Nand rom. Whats the best rom out there for At&t????
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
as far as I know any NAND Android ROM should work on AT&T as it is not the ROM that controls this but a combination of you sim card, APN settings, and you having your HD2 sim unlocked. Wait for more replies though as I do not use AT&T and it might actually be a ROM out there that has certain things adjusted for AT&T, but what that might be I do not know.
This is true, the ROM does not control the radio. There are methods of flashing the radio to a different version, one that may work for the AT&T 3G bands. I am looking them up, but that is how you would flash the device to change the radio.
Hardware wise, the GSM module does support all world wide bands but what makes then different from one HD2 from one carrier ot another is the firmware version that is used in the phones that make them work on the network's bands. Correct me if i am wrong though.

Untrue my friend, the T-Mobile HD2 only supports the bands used by T-Mobile for 3G. If you sim unlock the T-Mobile HD2 you can use the device with other carriers but you will only get Edge for a data signal as the hardware only supports the T-Mobile 3G bands. There is a model of the HD2 that supports a different 3G band the same ones AT&T uses in the US, it is the Australian model that Telstra a Australian cell carrier released as they use the same bands as AT&T. go to "Official HD2 T9193 (Telstra 850Mhz) Discussion Thread" and you can learn more about it. I also saw your other post in another thread about trying to help your friend out getting 3G on his HD2 using AT&T. Unless he is willing to buy a Telstra HTC HD2 T9193 or have his T-Mobile HTC HD2 T8585 worked on to switch out the hardware for the hardware in the T9193 then he will never getb 3G with AT&T.
Just to answer your question, every rom is an AT&T friendly ROM, meaning, they'll allow you to talk, text and surf the internet.
What you DONT have is AT&T 3G on your tmous HD2. You'll be stuck with EDGE speed.
Thank you all 4 your help, greatly apreciated!! I'm in puerto rico where tmobile is still on Edge. But for some reason tmobile is still alot faster when it comes to receiving & sending MMS than At&t on this phone. Currently using Coredroid 1.5
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
its interesting they would use different hardware GSM modules for the slightly different models. I would think the radio firmware version woudl take care of that. Thanks for clarification. I assumed that all GSM modules would be built the same way.
Sadly they are not, this in my opinion is just cellular carriers trying to keep you locked to their networks cause the know most people don"t want to have to buy another device when changing carriers if they already have a good device. So they make it were branded devices can only utilize high speed data with it's intended carriers network. I think this is unfair to consumers, but again just my opinion.

I think there is technical reason. The various carriers have very different technologies. Even AT&T uses a different 3G network than T-Mobile, despite the fact that both are GSM. Sprint and Verizon use non GSM technologies that are even more different. When a device manufacturer makes a certain model, there is only so much room inside, and unless one wants a really thick and heavy device, a choice has to be made as to which hardware goes into the phone.
I'm not saying that they don't want you to stay on their network - they do, which is why they have those 2 year contracts in exchange for buying a discounted phone. But I don't think that is why the hardware is different.

HTC EVO 4G use in Italy???

Hi guys,
I have seen so many HTC phones EVO 4G for sale on ebay, I wanted to know if you can use them with Italian cards, because I do not understand ...
http://cgi.ebay.it/MINT-SPRINT-HTC-...ell_Phones&hash=item2313212bc5#ht_2365wt_1139
Thank you.
The EVO 4G doesn't take any "cards". It runs on North American (and a few select others, like KDDI/Japan) CDMA networks. CDMA networks don't use SIM cards.
the EVO is not a world phone and only operates on CDMA technology, which is only here in the US (and Japan actually, but on a diff frequency I believe).
You will need to buy a GSM compatible phone if you want to use it in Italy.
That means anything from Sprint or Verizon is out as they are CDMA (unless it is marketed as a world phone meaning it has dual radios).
You'll need something from AT&T or another provider that uses SIM cards to go abroad.
.. :-( ..
thanks you very much for the support...

Hi, I can confirm that even you have it UICC unlocked, it won't work with China Mobile/Unicom/Telecom.
Service status will be SEARCHING always.

Sprint could unlock the phone for oversea use only for their customer and the phone need to be activated with Sprint at least 30 days. I am afraid we couldn't help you.

I tried to contact sprint customer service, They told even their phone is unlocked, they still can not use other carrier's sim card. BUT as we can see sprint iphone 6 and 6+ are oversea unlocked in China, and supporting China Mobile TD-LTE bands( Band 38 ,41).
Let's see this phone, when I got into the hidden menu, I figured out that 306sh is support TD-LTE band 41, That's means if it is oversea unlocked (like iPhone 6 example). It is possible that 306sh also is oversea unlocked, the best carrier for support 306sh is China Mobile (TD-LTE), China Telecom (CDMA 1X, CDMA ev-do REV A, TDD-LTE, FDD -LTE), Softbank (Japan FDD-LTE, TDD-LTE, HSPA+).
I ll try take it to have a oversea test. Let's wait.
According to your saying, technically we could unlock it to use in China and Japan.

In theory, I have to say it could be oversea unlocked. However, if we want to use the phone oversea. We have to concern about two issues.
First, the phone had better be unactivated. I am not sure we can use a CDMA phone burned some carriers information on abroad. So an unactivated aquos is more likely can be used oversea.
Second, If we use china mobile's network, I don't think the phone can make a call. that because, china mobile is a gsm carriers, they do not support CDMA phone. Only thing we can use from china mobile is their TD-LTE network. So if we insert CMCC sim card, the phone will become a web only phone that is unable to make a call. Or if China Mobile has VoLTE technology. On the other hand, China Telecom's network will be a best choice for 306sh. Cauz China Telecom's 2g 3g 4g network is exactly same with Sprint network. Let's see, softbank. the situation is a little bit similar with China Mobile. Softbank also is a GSM carrier, but Softbank they do not have 2G network, about 10 year ago, Japan closed all their 2G network, that's means, Softbank do not have GSM GPRS and EDGE. for replacement, they have WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+, FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE, so aquos also is very suitable to Softbank in Japan.
Let's waiting for the test.
