instaling apps on sdcard - Desire Themes and Apps

There is an option regarding choosing the destination of apps when we try to install them?

Wait for the desire to be rooted

Is it not a platform restriction? Will rooting the device change anything here?

Once rooted, you will be able to add ( and most of the ROMs developers include it) an cool App2SD application.
That app allow you to install other application on the SDCard.

oki..so we have to wait ...i saw that nexus one it's already rooted.

Yes, because the Nexus is pure Android and is "open"
On the Desire, HTC added Sense, that is closed and reflect the "know-how" of HTC. They want to keep all their stuff secret and protected.
The main difference between Nexus and Desire is the philosophy, not the hardware.

Here is the app I wrote back for the TP2 to cook Android into your rom for basically an Android only rom. All you have to do is zip up the new release and rename to android.zip and throw it into the EXT. Included is v3 of the Android with Sense port that dcordes posted on XDA.
This will not turn into a discussion about the actual porting of Android. The only thing that should be discussed in this thread is if you have any issues or questions about my app itself. The porting of Android can be discussed elsewhere.

anyone tried this yet?
This is the rom I made for the TP2 using this app. Also, don't pay attention to the errors with android in that thread as they have no relevance to the HD2 port
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=118191
so if a chef cooked this into a rom, we would have bootable android on the hd2? Sorry if im way off haha, and also either way, what version of android is it?
All this app does is interrupt windows mobile booting and installs android to your sd card. Then on the next boot it will interrupt it again and automatically run HARET from your sd card.
so, in short you will still have to have the overhead of some components from windows mobile in the rom to boot, but only about 25MB worth of stuff.
V3 of the Sense port at the following link. http://gamesquare.co.uk/
Nice! I was thinking of doing the same thing. I will give this a try.

Even if it works, what it does is that it allows you to run Android which you can as such do without using this by simply tapping on HARET on SD card. While Android porting itself is unstable, this will not add any stability, will it?

Nope, just something to play with. And usage in the future might be better, but I did this for the TP2 awhile back with Android a lot more stable there. But it will be a good app just to play with and then when Android gets more stable a possible permanent tool to use.

[Q] Desire HD with Anti-Root Chip?

Hi,
has anybody heard or knows from the Desire Z and Desire HD anti-root chip?
Is this a fake from T-Mobile?
www.mobiflip.de/2010/10/t-mobile-bestaetigt-anti-root-chip-fuer-htc-g2-aka-desire-z
From what I've heard, it's true !
Only T-Mobile Smartphones?
Only T-Mobile Smartphones or other like O2 or HTC?
I suppose its going to be Anti-root even if the device is unbranded and unlocked, right? can anyone with an unbranded/unlocked device confirm this? (for both G2 and Desire HD)
Well, the eMMC data storage chip is not meant to be anti-root on it's own, but it's configuration makes it.. Well, anti-root.
We cannot write to it (not yet anyway), it has a write protection. The device caches all the changes the developers make to the linux file system, and loads an unchanged system from the eMMC chip upon reboot.
LOL, that's bad publicity ...
I think easiest way would be to find a way to S-Off the device first, and than start rooting
Apparently Paul at Modaco has made a one click root app. I've not got a link have a look in the Development section of this forum.

We'll have to wait first to see if hackers can get through the read only eMMC. Once you see that happen, then root and new ROMs are possible.
ATM afaik, people are working on the eMMC problem in the G2 at the moment, hopefully the techniques they find there will be cross-applicable to the desire HD.

I can answer the latter part of your post now.
Rooting is simple, download Modaco's "Visionary R14" app, open it, tap "temp root now" then wait, then when done tap "perma root now" and wait... job done.
Then you are able to install the only official current custom rom which will be modaco, there are other roms for other tablets you can use but I have not really researched this myself yet.
Plus CM 6.x followed by CM 7.x is in the works.

yes that can be removed.
We will get CM6 first I believe, there is currently one majorish stumbling block stopping CM7 from working but hopefully that won't take forever to fix.

Thats odd, all the apps i have tried that required root work fine. Root explorer and button savior etc.
I didn't have to perform any rooting steps with mine, just installed the ROM using Paul's batch files and instructions.

[Q] [WTA] Newbie Need Help >.<

Hi All,
First of all, i totally new here, so please forgive me if i post at the wrong place, and sorry for my poor english...
Again, i'm new and newbie.. really appreciate for any help given...
I'm using HTC Wildfire as well but...
Now... most headache, internal memory full(is there any ways to expand it ? or install all apps to sd card?i saw my frens root SGS but internal software still din go to sdcard as well, its also maintain in internal memory)wildfire internal less while SGS 2GB ..><....
So.. is there any solution for this? i know root and flash might help but how can i do this? i read some threads around, but i not sure which to choose... or should i wait for official android 2.3? Will 2.3 solve my lag/hang issue? I don't know what is root or flash exactly, what can it do? any disadvantages?
Oh! and what is JIT? I heard it can make apps run faster! worth a try?
I don't mind and hardcore/heavy solution(need advance skill) as long there is a tutorial for me xD
Really appreciate for any help and advises ^^ TQ very much..
Firstly, if you are on official 2.2, you are not in a position to root, and, whatever guides are available to move Apps2SD, will not be applicable.
If you are indeed on official 2.2, you can use Froyo's inbuilt Apps2SD Feature. Go to Settings > Applications > Click Application Name > Move to SD Card. However, this will not move the app completely to the SD, and, for it to work, the app must support it.
But, if you are on Official 2.1, then, you can root and flash DTApps2SD, which can help move the complete app to the SD card, and preserve internal memory. If you so wish, you can move the apps cache also the SD, which means even if you have a 100 apps installed, your internal memory will still be fully empty.
Root Guide can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
Pretty easy to follow. Just follow it step by step. (NOTE: Again, this is not valid if you are on official 2.2)
DTApps2SD can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925982
All the required commands to run it can also be found there.
As for official 2.3, its unlikely there will ever be one.

yes, only the supported apps will be moved. But what do u mean by that sentence, "this will not move the app completely to the SD".

As u said this also moves the app cache to the sd card.
Is it like the complete movement of app includes app cache also, and is there anything else that it includes
Official android 2.3 update is unlikely for wildfire. As ur issue is to free the phone memory which is more likely to be solved with custom roms. So, why do u think of official updates. Remember those official updates will make ur phone unrootable. The 2nd post solves ur phone memory issue.
And u asked about jit compiler. check these links (sorry its not an updated one, and havent found any updates regarding this jit compiler)

As far as I've heard JIT does what it promises, but it is NOT compatible with HTC Sense. So HTC has disabled JIT, and the only way to enable it is to get rid of HTC sense and change some system files (build.prop?).
Things like throwing away Sense or changing system files requiers that you have ROOTED your phone. And that is, like 3Xeno mentioned, ONLY POSSIBLE if you have android 2.1.
Correct me if I'm wrong!

Hello there, it may seem that I'm not the perfect answerer to your rather ignorant (because I'm sure thousands threads like yours already exist) question, but here I am trying to up my Thanks meter.
First thing you should know is that if you want something exactly like Cydia you won't find it or as in most cases it won't work nearly as good. That's why we have our specific Nexus 4 forum here on xda and luckily it is one of the most popular ones.
Before you make any attempts on tweaking, be sure to install a recovery. I highly recommend this PC/MAC tool for almost everything including installation of recoveries. There are two options - ClockWorkMod (CWM) and TeamWinRecoveryProject (TWRP)
They are very helpful if you want to flash (install) ROMs (modded versions of Android), kernels, .zip files that contain some kind of a visual or non-visual tweak, and recovering your phone.
From here on you can install a custom ROM (for visual tweaks Paranoid Android is a good choice, for speed and reliability I would pick CyanogenMod, whose developers have an installer for noobs) with some kind of a custom kernel like AK which is a all-in-one solution or a reliable noob-friendly one like FrancoKernel OR use Xposed modules (GravityBox is an excellent one) over the stock ROM.
There are lots of noob-friendly videos by the xda team, so check out their YouTube channel as well. Use Google and read very carefully before flashing anything. Wisdom comes with time.
We don't need Cydia. We have the Google Play Store, which has most of the root apps you'll want. There are other stores like Amazon and others, if you so desire.

For design try Themer, like most apps you can get them from the play store. As far apps that require root access, maybe search root in the play store? It should be noted that Root is like Administrator priviliges in Windows. In android there are so many things that you're already able to do that, often times, root isn't needed.
