Battery Low + Freezing - HD2 General

I got a question. I have noticed that multiple times when my phone is less than 10% battery life, it will start freezing on me. The screen will freeze. Has anybody else experienced this??? Particularly when Im using Opera 9.7

idk its weird. I just plugged my phone back in and started using Opera without a hitch.

(I've only dropped below 10% about 10 times.)
I haven't noticed any issues with low battery. The only annoyance is that it will disconnect my bluetooth headset once it drops down to 10%. I am using stock software except for CHT and Bsbtweaks.

Oh. Maybe it just has to do with Opera and the battery then???

Both of my original Units did this. Got replacements with the new yellow reset button under the battery cover and they are good now.

What is the difference between units with a yellow reset button and a red reset button? I just received a replacement unit in the mail and has the yellow. I was told it would be a new phone. Does a yellow button indicate a refurbished unit?

I have read a few times people refer to the Buttons. I am thinking the red button was in the very first round of HD2s and I am thinking that batch contained a system bugs. The ones with the yellow buttons are updated I think so people are having less issue with those phones. Mine has the yellow and dont have most of the problems other people have

I just bought a brand new one yesterday, from a Tmobile corporate store, hadn't been off the UPS truck for more than 30 minutes, and it had the yellow reset button in it.

People can speculate all they want on forums about why HTC decided to change something so insignificant... when realisitically the only reason for that change was to make the soft reset button more visible to the naked-eye.
There is no such "upgraded" unit. Companies do not finance creating several "different models" of the same device for the same country. That would be a total legal fiasco.
Anyway, aside from all of that... I have the unit with a RED reset key, considering I had mine 4 days prior to the initial launch of the phone.
No issues, none at all.

Hi there
My HD2 has a red reset button but I have never heard of a difference between red or yellow reset buttons, and did not even know there were different button colours.
However, I am having the same problem where the unit hangs when the battery is slow.
(I have noticed that the phone would have two bars, but after the reset it would be on one bar)
I am still looking for a solution to this, and will post if I find one.
If you have in the mean time found a solution, please be so kind as to post it.
Many thanks
Deric

Is it a custom rom?
Did you tried power save mod, maybe in the power save mod phone is shuts down some advanced hardware resources!

x7501 trouble with wake-up.

I just got my advantage a couple of days ago. i haven't had much time to use it yet, because of work. i haven't installed any sofware. Sometimes my device simpy won't wake-up. After soft feset, the only thing i did was connect a bluetooth headset, which worked fine. I turned off the screen, and when i came back to my device, about two hours later, it would not wake-up. I had to soft reset. This has happened a few times. Also, its very slow with entering text (When i finished typing the word 'text', 'soft reset' was just being entered on the screen.) It would be worse, but i stop to let it catch up, and check for typos.
It is really annoying to buy a new device and have to put up with this crap. Any help is appreciated.
If it were me, I would try a 'Hard Reset' and if that did not clear up the problem, call HTC for a warranty replacement. Hard Reset is hold the volume slider down while clicking the reset button on back of the device.

I'm not having the issues with it not waking up, but recently I've had the issues with randomly occuring extreme slowdown, similar slow text entry, quick battery run down and insanely slow screen redrawing and general responsiveness to hardware of screen based input. I've tried soft resets, hard resets, trying to isolate software that might be causing it. So far it seems that the Illiumsoft Newsbreak feed reader I had been using for months without issue might be related to the problem, but I'm wondering if the problem isn't software specific but actually just related to data downloading activity. Thus far, I'm a couple days in without Newsbreak and no occurances of the problem...
Have you tried tapping the button on the lower right side of the phone (power button) sometimes mine does the same thing, good luck...TJ
i am going to hard reset, but with no software installed i dont know that this will help. i am considering switching to the (whats it called, black touch) rom. i dont know f this will help my current issue, but it sure looks nice. on all of my previous devices, i've always used the factory rom, and i'm somewhat clueless and intimidated by the whole process. I just dont want to screw up my new device. if anyone can help with any of these issues, please do.

Concerning the warranty replacement, i bought this from a guy on ebay. It was still in the sealed box with compusa sticker on it, but i'm not sure if the warranty is transferable. Maybe if i could get him to send his receipt I would covered at least from his date of purchase. Anyone know specifics about the manufacturers warranty?

Perhaps you could help me fix that problem by telling me how to install the black touch rom without screwing it up.
I'm obviously no developer, nor expert in any type of computer skills. I come to this forum because I love the device, my issues are usually resolved after some discussion here, the people are mostly friendly, and i'm interested in making my device better. I just need some help to do so.

If you press the power quickly and lightly it should come back to
standard Today screen versus pressing and holding which brings up
the power off "pop up",at least that how my 7501 responds.
You may want to try that hard reset then play with Start/Settings
/System/Power.

i understand that the buttons respond differently depending on how you press them (press and release, press and hold, etc.) The problem is sometimes, usually when i'm working and away from my phone for awhile, the device simply won't wake-up (power button or any other button pressed in anyway does nothing.) after a soft reset eveything seems fine. this has probably happened 4-5 times in 3 days. After hard reset its only happened once.
Sometimes my device doesn't seem to respond when i plug in the charger, nothing lights up. I've also noticed everytime i check .the battery meter, its alway a denomination of 10 (10%, 20%, 30%). I was sure this was going to be a great device, but i'm beginning to have my doubts.

I had experienced this before but it is so rare that it's hardly worth mentioning. Are you using WM5 or WM6?
It is normal that the battery strength shows in increment of 10%.
If hard reset does not solve the problem, I would try to re-flash the ROM and see if the problem goes away.

Red Or Yellow reset button?

I have had about 4 HD2'S already until this one (4th) other 3 with alot of problems
I noticed the reset button on the Back under the battery cover next to SD card is yellow not red like the other 3 i have had.
My girl friend has had 3 HD2's since all Red buttoned nothing but problems, same goes with 2 people at work Red reset button and nothing but problems.
What color do you have?
Do you have any issues with the One having the red reset button?
Has me thinking????????
Glad i have a Yellow button lol
I have a yellow. I haven't had any problems besides the phone refusing to wake up once. And, once, it totally send a SMS to a different person. As in, in the thread I intended it for, the person never got it, but some other random person did. Man, was that awkward. I was totally talking about something full-retard to something else and it sends it to this girl. Thanks, HD2.
I've got a red reset button, and no problems. They changed from red to yellow because people were confusing it with a moisture indicator. They saw the red and on moisture indicators that means moisture damage. So they changed it to yellow so theres no confusion. I don't think theres any other hardware difference. The yellow ones may have newer rom version, though, since they are newer. But once you flash it, it doesn't make a difference.
Mine has red since i bought first day it came out... It used to freeze lot untill i flashed "ship" stock, which can be found here, since then my phone is working smoothly except for horrable the 3g connection and the music tap is to slow (i guess because I have to many songs).
Yellow here, never a glitch. runs like a champ and battery last about 2 days or so.
Yellow, originial stock ROM....zero issues.
Interesting supposition. I have a yellow button, and stock ROM. Only noticeable problem is that occasionally the phone will just be lying there and switch itself to an application ... without being touched.
Red
Red. No Problems, Stock Rom. I don't think having different colored reset button changes anything. Its the same hardware and same ROM version... But I guess whatever makes you happy. If having yellow solves your problems then yellow it is. lol..
Yellow, 2.13 ROM, no problems...save for the recent battery drain since ROM upgrade (I think)
I have a red button, and my wife has a yellow. I've had problems with freezing, usually when trying to wakeup the phone after the backlight has automatically shut down. The phone buttons will light up, but the screen stays black, necessitating a battery removal and restart. My wife has had none of these problems.
I've been running stock and was hopeful the new ROM update (2.13) would be the cure, but the problem continued. Tried a new class 6 SD card, disable sense timeouts, clear ram, etc...
Finally decided to flash a custom ROM, chose Dutty's and have been stable so far...
Perhaps the yellow/red button does have some meaning, but the problem is with a small sample of various forum users, the sample pool is not really big enough to know for sure.
Red button, stock 2.10 rom, not really a lot of problems... Usual glitches, like an app that I didn't press might start. Or won't wake up from lockscreen. But runs pretty well for me.
red = made in Taiwan, yellow = made in China....Maybe??? Look under battery
Bought TMOUS version on release day, and 1st one was bad, kept crashing & locking up. Sent it back for replacement (wirefly.com) and I've had the 2nd one ever since, red button, and it's working fine, aside from the various known build issues.
i have just brought t-mobile hd2 from ebay
and from my research i have found out that hd2 with yellow colour reset had lot of problem with the screen digitizer and htc later made some hardware changes and all the phone released later are of red colour.
so red colour hd2 has less screen problems

[Q] Touchscreen Bugs?

So I've had my Nexus One since release at the beginning of 2010, and I'm finally coming out to ask: does anyone else have occasional trouble with their touchscreen detecting touches at completely the wrong places? At random points while using the Browser (maybe once or twice a week) I'll be trying to scroll and I'll get a quick zoom instead. Also, if I touch about 1 inch above the Back/Menu/Home/Search keys, they will be recognized as those keys instead of touching the screen! This bug happens outside of Browser too (though it always seems to start there) and has been consistent across CM6, MM's Gingerbread Builds, and several other ROMs. It always goes away with a reboot, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar problems
I'd bet 99% of Nexus owners have this problem. You don't have to reboot, just turn your screen off and on again to reset it.
It's a hardware problem, the touchscreen panel isn't very good in the Nexus One..
But, It's fine in the newer phones like G2 and Nexus S
yup I have the same issue not a major issue I think battery draining & memory has been my main issue at the moment.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878477
Since getting mine back from repair the problem occurs less often but is still there.

Same here. My first one had the issue a couple times a day, the next phone was particularly bad with my screen screwing up every few minutes. This current phone hasn't had the issue in the month I've owned it.
Part numbers and the touchscreen panel part numbers are the exact same in the last two.phones.
This bug is a year old.
Amazingly I've never had that issue so I don't think its universal though my screen sometimes fails to respond at all but that'll go away after a minute or so.

It's not a bug, it's a hardware defect. There is no way to prevent this in the software.
I only seem to get it when on charge, and there is a thread about the same thing in the NS forum, so it's not just us.

Granted. However I can envisage a piece of software that cycles the screen off/on momentarily every few minutes that may in practical terms fix it.
My first N1 was only slightly effected by the screen fault, even after going back to HTC for a new power button. When the power button failed a second time I elected to go for a refurb on the second warranty return. Unfortunately the refurb is quite badly effected by the screen alignment fault.
Most annoying thing is when the alignment goes out, I have no choice but to use the power button to cycle it off. I am trying at all cost to avoid using the power button on my N1 to defer its inevitable next failure.
There's a fix for it

New user, some problems

Hey all, pretty new here. Just want to share some experience I am having with the new phone I got today.
I bought it from HK for around $575 AUD shipped, which is an awesome price for such a nice phone. Locally cost around $600-700.
When it came this morning, the camera was showing the common red spot issue. After doing some research I have upgraded from KG2 kernal to KE7 using Odin. However now it is a bit blue in the center. Doesnt seem like they fixed the problem completely.
Another issue I have is that the back button (right of home button) seems to make some "delay, lag, not responsive"? I may press it around 5 times and it will not work for 1 time. I test it by pressing the "application icon" and "back" several time and usually miss a few "backs to home screen".
Last, while typing using the stock Samsung keyboard. I also noticed that the "back delete" button not responsive as well. It will miss maybe 1 in 5 presses. I did fix this problem by installing another keyboard (I liked the HTC one as I was using the Desire HD before dropping it and completely smashing the phone )
Anyone else experiencing similar or same problem as me? I really like the design, speed of this phone. But there are just some things that are not so perfect and I want to see if I should go back to the dealer and exchange a phone or something. I dont want to ship it all the way back to HK thou, I might get a replacement with the same problem.
Thanks
Tony

Followed the thread and the phone say my camera firmware is already the latest and no need for any updates. in the morning is light red, night time is light blue.
I noticed that when i was on the KG3 firmware the camera red spot was gone. Don't know if this is the same for everyone. Although I never transferred the pictures to my computer to really check if the red spot exists on actual pictures.

This seems to be an emerging issue, first unit had a very unresponsive back button when I updated it to XXKF3 it became a bit more responsive but still far from what it was compared to the S1, the 2nd phone I got had a responsiveness exactly like the main touch screen (which is great) the 3rd phone I have now is not as bad as the first one but not as responsive as the last one either.. 3 of my friends also reported the same issue.
Yup,had my first phone replaced because of the back button issue and the yellow tint. It was only registering 80% of my presses. I thought I was the only one with the back button issue. Samsung and their quality issues again
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Got a replacement, back button all good. Camera has no red spot but a little blue (fine for 80% of the time + outdoor)
Now I am just getting abit of lag in the home screen. I wonder if flashing the rom will help it? Can anyone suggest a really fast rom?
Thanks alot
Tony
I think that the home buttom lag is due to the applicattion that gets the voice recognition, that is launched when you press home twice. When you press home buttom the system waits a little bit for the second press. If you install a rom with this app without installing or you freeze the app with Titanium Backup you wont have that lag.
So many problems out of the box.
Just return the phone. You can send it back as a DOA under the first week.
Dont wait for any magic software updates. Usualy they dont solve anything.

Power button behaving funny on Focus ...

My samsung Focus is about 1.5 years old.. I plan to switch carriers at the end my of contract since AT&T is giving me lots of dropped call at the new place we moved to.. The phone is obviously out of warranty, so I am looking to see if I can fix it myself.
The power button on my Samsung focus is behaving very funny lately. When I hit the power button with the phone awake, it thinks I did a "long press" of the power button and shows me the shutdown pull-down image! If I pull-up the image, the phone still reboots...
If I press the power button when the phone screen is OFF, instead of turning on the phone, it again shows the pull-down image, and the same behavior ensues - regardless of what direction I pull the image in, it shuts down the phone.
Some things I have already tried:
I have tried a hard-reset (camera+volume+power, and format the device), but the behavior continues.
I have removed my SD Card (I am using the AT&T approved one), performed hard reset, and problem continues
I have tried a different battery (from my wife's focus), and problem continues
At this point, I am guessing that most likely, the power button connector is loose.. but I am not 100% sure.. Any suggestions on things to try?
Seems like the spring in the power button is gone. I suggest when you want to press it, lean the phone to the right (with the power button towards the ground) so when you press it, gravity helps popping it back.
Or replace the power button.

The button itself is plastic (you can find some on ebay), and I don't know how it works, actually (If it's a spring or otherwise).
I suggest you watch a take apart guide and maybe, just maybe it's just dirt, which you can clean.

You didn't say if the same happens with the wall charger connected.
Now, If you're going out, try and drop near a phone shop. Ask them if they can help you test with one of their batteries, either for a Focus i917 or from a Galaxy S i9000
Good luck mate.
Dang i thought i was the only one with this issue...
Mine started acting up about 3 weeks ago and it was seriously annoying especially when driving. I would press the lock button to change songs, but it thinks i did a long-press and does the "slide down to power off" thing. Even if i swipe up, the phone would switch off.
Then today, i take my phone out my pocket to send a text and find it's powered off. Won't even switch on now
Ender:
Plugging the phone in does NOTHING. The screen remains black.
Reinserting the battery causes the SAMSUNG logo to appear on-screen but again, goes black after 4-5 seconds.
Holding down the power/lock button has no effect, it's unresponsive.
I'm so pissed off this is happening 6 months before my contract is up. -_-
Don't know what else to say... I hope you still have warranty?

Not extended no... :/
I've managed to get it into "download mode" now though, and my laptop recognises it as "SAMSUNG CDMA Technologies"... Huh?

If i have it plugged into my laptop,
hold vol down, power, and camera while inserting the battery i get to the hard reset screen. But then that disappears in the same 4-5 second window.
Ok, it's working again... I left the battery out for a few hours (literaly about 3), then pressed hard on the power button, and placed it (the battery) back in the phone.
Let it turn on and then back off by itself, then pressed hard on the power button.
pressed the button normally, and it booted up no issues. So far works fine.
I expect this issue is partly the power button, and something else unknown

You didn't say if the same happens with the wall charger connected.
Now, If you're going out, try and drop near a phone shop. Ask them if they can help you test with one of their batteries, either for a Focus i917 or from a Galaxy S i9000
Good luck mate.

Yes' same thing with wall power. New battery arrived and did not help. Went to a local cellphone repair and the guy said main board needs replacement.. he suggested to buy another phone since repair will be more expensive.. he said that he needs to remove soldering on the board reinforce an auxillary power button battery and resolder it in.. no guarantees and will cost atleast $150

Lucky you!! This seems like a common problem with several Samsung phones based on a quick google search
Also bummed that this happened with 6 months remaining ...Now I am somewhat stuck since I want to switch from AT&T due to call issues with several months remaining.. and dont want to buy one till wp8 is out...
Just for fun... I am going to find a 000 screwdriver and try to re-jig the power button.. nothing to loose with the phone refusing to start anyway!
For what it's worth, my power button had been getting increasingly creaky over the course of the last few months, and although not sticking, was requiring ever more pressure to operate. Also, the sound of rusty bedsprings every time I went to use my phone was getting somewhat embarrassing.
I found the sturdiest piece of paper that I could wedge in between the button and the rest of the phone, put a bit of PB Blaster on the paper, and wedged the paper in. The button has since been as good as the day I took the phone out of the box for a couple of months now.
*Edit: Should probably mention that the paper isn't supposed to stay in there - it was just used to apply the lube without soaking the phone.

So its working completely fine now? No issues? I'll try that but im not hopeful.
I've been having the same issue, started yesterday. There appears to be no issues with the actual button itself, it doesnt appear to get stuck or anything to cause this, even without the external shell and just compressing the sensor itself.
walletless, you said that you tried reformatting it and everything? Damn. I was expecting it to be a software issue. I'll mess with the button mechanism a bit and see if theres anything weird with it
Phone is dead
re-jigging and cleaning around power button did not help.. I ended up ordering a chinese knock-off of HTC Note instead
Does any have this problem, but on a normal stock rom?
I was thinking it might be just custom roms, I don't think that would have anything to do with it
Its worth a shot though

My phone died last month. I only installed updates that came through Zune up to 7.5. I went into AT&T and they told me too bad because it was out of warranty. I called Samsung, and they wanted me to 'volume down, camera, power' reset my phone, which didn't work. Samsung told me to send it to them for $70 because I was out of warranty.
Instead I entered a developer competition for a Lumia 800 and won. Now I just have a dead focus, and a new 800. I'd still be interested if anyone finds out a way to fix the focus problem.
