Enables the full 2.1 Verizon market place. I have it working, if done by hand. I can't pull it off over an update.zip and when ppl run my app written in c, its a 50/50 shot at working. I am waiting on someone to help me port to java as an apk.

Why do I want the 2.1 Market Fix?
Evening,
What benefits do I gain from getting the 2.1 marketplace fix?
New apps? Better Apps? MORE APPS?!?!!!
I feel as though I should be in eager anticipation of it but I've no clue why?

Post it in the right spot, and I will answer.

From my understanding, The market fix is for users OUT of the USA. It enables them to see all the apps, instead of a limited amount.
Isn't it nice to just get an answer to your question
I guess some people dont mind being on their high horses. Like seriously, its a forum. Get over it.
Next time, just try and post in the right section. Then people wont be so snarky towards you.

Why do you have a holier than thou attitude? I understand you've been mistreated on these forums but you don't need to mistreat those who have done nothing wrong. You do a lot of great work and most people appreciate it even if they can't express it well, this has nothing to do with your dev work, which is excellent. You just come off looking like an asshole when you post things like that. You could have easily answered his question but chose to be condescending. It only makes the situation worse. You can yell at people for not searching or not posting in the right spot all you want but you need to realize that a lot of the people who come here are visiting for the first time and haven't seen all of your complaints of mistakes that almost every newbie makes. Sorry if I offended you somehow, just my views.

A) Wrong market patch is a project I have been working on, has nothing to do with being outside the US. Isn't it nice getting an incorrect answer. It enables a full market on these custom roms, allows you to switch between device specific markets, and maybe some surprises.
B) Forum is flooded, and if people read the rules they would know where to post stuff.
Isn't nice getting the wrong answer from someone who doesn't know what they are speaking of?

2.2 Root Bounty - $20 - Please Sticky - Please Join

I am surprised this doesn't exist yet. I searched and didn't see one specifically for root. So I would like to ask that it be stickied.
I am pledging $10 for a post 2.2 working root. Anyone else want to add? I will keep track here and update the total.
Pledge List:
1. edufur.............. $10
2. mdassad........... $10
Total $20
I'll throw in $10.

Maybe you should look at what happened to the PRI upgrade bounty in the Development section. I agree with the OP of that thread - bounties should be banned from XDA.

My humble opinion I would have to agree with silver. Bounties tend to cloud the focus of the overall objective and could lead to somewhat shady end results. In this case of froyo root believe me the devs have this as a top priority and bounties are not going to achieve a faster result. It would probably be best if one would donate to them now as it could lighten the load and burden now when it really counts.
This is counterproductive as much as you think your helping. Pretty soon nothing around here is ganna get done without a bounty, and the whole development thread is ganna be slowed to a halt with devs waiting for a bounty before they do any work. Plus Android isnt owned by anyone of us to claim a bounty for developing on, if you wanna make money through it, there are channels like through the market. Donations are for Churches/Charities so what you are basically doing is bribing people to do the work.

That was only one of a few root bounty threads. I personally completely derailed one of them (I'm not proud of myself) trying to make the same points that others have made in this thread, but they were much more eloquent here than I was there. I know its hard to believe, but I was a total ass in that thread.

Ya and what was that? The PRI fix? The whole point of rooting is to achieve the best possible tweak of code that gives us the best possible Android experience overall. The only logical step forward is to root froyo. If nothing more it might contain the ingredients for us to eventually root Gingerbread when we get it. Believe me rooting froyo is a top priority.

The unrevoked twitter feed hinted they were working on it this morning.
"You can expect another face on the wall of phones soon. 2.2 folks: stuff is coming
down the pipeline. Inc folks: use Forever before the OTA!"

If you want the unRevoked team to work on this and you want to help them out, then go to their site and donate to the EFF. If you really want to show your support, then donate NOW, not after they then find the hack. Anyone can donate AFTER but only those truly serious will show their support now. So go to their page and show you are serious and show your support.

Exactly. Unrevoked is the only one I've seen even hint towards it. I think, most of the hardcore devs got their device when it came out and have had root since 2.1, aren't willing to loose root and therefor development time for other projects, and probably don't want to spend a few hundred bucks to buy a cold unit out of contract to test with.
My suggestion: all you bounty guys chip in your milk money together, start buying devices and giving them as gifts of gratitude towards your favorite devs. Devs do this for fun on their own time and surely wouldn't mind having their name on the end-all-be-all-2.2-exploit, but probably don't want it bad enough to go blow a few hundred bucks on. My $0.02 anyway...

The whole challenge for a hacker is too hack something that has not been hacked. Pardon me but the last I heard 2.1 was hacked and now the PRI is fixed. Ya I confirmed that much...your welcome. Hackers don't go around babbling about what they are doing until they achieve it then make their mark.

Booting from phone (attn1 plz!)

What's it going to take in order for us to be able to boot from phone's SD card via USB? I want to port over my "system recovery" usb flash drive to my phone's SD card for even more emergency practicality.
When trying to boot from USB while phone is connected to PC, it loses the connection. A Tmobile G1 can do it, why can't we?
attn1, I need your help!
Thanks!

It wasn't a request for you to do the work, re-read it and comprehend.
I actually thought we could work on it and bring it to the device together since this is all open-source, right?
And lastly, it's not a rediculous request, it's quite useful. More useful than some of the **** that's in CM6 that doesn't need to be in there IMO. Oh wait, did I hurt your feelings? Maybe you should be pointing the "gun" at yourself...

lol really? Are u seriously doing this? For most of us that is a useless stupid feature request. Especially when you can just buy a flash drive. Or Buy a microsd reader and make the card bootable. Take out the card and put it in the reader and boot from it. But youd be better off taking attn1s advice with a response like that.

Hmm, for most of us some of things in CM6 are useless and stupid as well! So, it's a two-way road man, some of us would like it, some of us don't. In the end, it's up to person with the know-how to decide everyone's fate pretty much no matter what you like or dislike.
Example:
Original Aria ROM contained FM Radio, now it's gone with CM6. Some people within this section asked about it. Are you ever going to see it again? Nope! attn1, do your duty and PM all those people to kill themselves please!
It doesn't matter to attn1 if 99% of people want something, if he thinks it's stupid he'll go tell you to kill yourself.
How can you have any respect for someone who says that - I don't! So **** him.
Some features of our phone HTC only has the knowledge on how to implement the stuff like FM. We don't have the code for their fm app so we can't implement it into cm6. As for CM6 as a whole attn1 got it up and running on our phone. The project itself isn't attn1. He is just a device maintainer. He does not add anything to cm6 itself except support for the aria. If you have a problem with cm6 as a whole take it up with cyanogen not attn1. And as for attn1 post he is just getting sick of people complaining about the same stuff over and over when if you read the faq you will realize what can and cannot work. A bug report is one thing but a bug report on something we already know about and documented can drive someone crazy. Try reading through a thread to find legit bugs through others bickering or just plain nonsense. So please drop the subject.
Sorry but this does not apply in this case.

Then exactly what does apply. If you are so worried about it you rewrite the way the phone handles the sdcard. It's not something software can just magically change.
I dont get it. I can plug in my phone (running cm6) and see the sd card in windows, that is what you mean right? Btw, stop pissing off attn1. The guy has done more for aria owners than anyone else for nothing. Pissing off the people that actually help here is a great way to piss off the rest of us who use his roms and actually need help with things. Take the card out and copy if you cant see it via usb, which I don't know why you can't maybe check your drivers.

[Q] New developer in the making...

I've decided to try be a contributor to this community however im already stumbled on my first step which is how do I get Eclipse installed and working. I've googled this and I get outdated links, download wrong Java packages etc. So if someone could spell it out with links below. That would be much appreciated!

Watch this video, should explain how to set it up.
You don't install Eclipse, it's a stand alone package rolled up in a zip/tar file. You extract it, double-click on the .exe (if windows) and it will run.

STFU, at the least the guy is trying. Contribute or get out of here.
OP: Are you trying to write apps, or develop ROM / port things for the phone.
If you're trying to write apps, this might a good reference point:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/projects/projects-eclipse.html
However, this may not be the right forum if you're trying to learn how to do that.
If you want to make ROMs or port.... that's considerably tougher and you usually don't use Eclipse for that....

Don't really care about this guy. At least I got my answer. Tysm for the video link. The first thing the video discusses is how confusing it is to get started just trying to download JDK.
Secondly, I plan on first making some basic apps and understanding the way Android works. Then, possibly may go more advanced with themeing and such.
Lastly, I want to point out I'm not alone in this post. YES you can GOOGLE what I asked for in this thread. Hardly any of your search results you get back from Google will be clear and concise and I appreciate some people understanding that not everyone is fluent in the ways of Android development.
I flashed mostly everything interesting on these forums whether its roms or themes or mods. I look up to the developers at ACS among all the others.
I believe this is a relevant post and a lot of people feel the same way I do.
Thank you.
I am also heading down this path. Do you have programming experience?

Theming/ROM/Kernel development are seperate from app development, as I'm sure you are aware. Two different beasts entirely, actually. I would start with ROM and theming ventures first to really learn how the operating system works, then move to kernel development to see how things are actually interacting.
App development is a whole 'nother ballgame, writing apps in Java is really the nitty gritty of the works. To understand this, it would help to know how things in the OS work.

Yes I do. I've had experience in Java it's just been years! But um I don't think the basics of programming will be any trouble. I've already attempted to read up on some Android Programming Tutorials. My main hurdle was getting this set up on my computer so I could follow along with a guide. I do realize themeing and developing are apples and oranges but they are both interesting to me. I read someone's post long ago (not sure who) to begin writing apps and then maybe try one's luck to create ROMs.
Hey bud, congrats on trying to learn this stuff. We at ERA started out just as you did about 3-4 months ago with a similar post. We all (if we are fair) know that the x10 is old mobile. And the most of us don't use a mobile longer than 2 years. So why o why read I so many post of people that are complaining about a update from a dev. Let them move on and give new dev's a chance
My personal top 3 irritations!!!!!
1) if you can't do it yourself, be grateful for everything they do for us and don't complain!!!
2) if we (the users) get a new mobile, how many people still stick to the x10 treads? So why expect a lot of people that the dev's must stick to the X10 forum and development further!!!
3) if a dev don't post for a while, don't post non related post in a DEVELOPMENT TREAD and complain about a update!!!
I have talk with a lot of members trough a personal message and told them about the post they have placed. But I think its a neverending story.
I think when the Mods are more harsher and give quicker a warning and ban people, then maybe people think twice what they post. I know that the mods help xda in their spare time and do all they can. But when you make a couple statements, the word get spread and maybe maybe this will work!
thanks for listening to my complaint
Even though i bought a Galaxy Note, i still read the first page of the General/Dev/Q&A section of the X10 forum daily.
You are right about people complaining to developers for updates, but that's just the way it is. It doesn't have to disturb you, or anyone. Most people ignore these types of begging posts anyway.
My experience in forums showed that having strict moderation won't do a thing. It will only lead to more drama. I know you feel you have to do something about this, but believe me its better if you relax and don't do anything at all. The mods know their job and doing the best they can. Talking to individuals via PM's and trying to explain why they shouldn't do this and that is not only time consuming, but as you can see, it lead you being frustrated enough to start this thread.
This thread will be read by (lets say) 1000, will be replied by 10-20, some may agree, some may not. It then will crawl it's way on the bottom of the page until a similar thread pops up. (There, just saved you some time )
Bottom line is, it's the interwebz. Don't get too attached.
But he is right though

RANT AHEAD!
Unfortunately, you are right. People feel its a right they possess to get the developer to work non stop for them. Things in the x10 forums are still relatively mild though... In the atrix forum, the CM7 thread had to be closed for a period of time due to people complaining and demanding for fixes. And the "thx" posts. Here's a classic example

I like the x10 forums, things are usually more peaceful and people more helpful here.

lol, before this thread gets closed i would love to point out that we have had our moments here, we can mix it with the big boys
I have given up with my classic posts of
1. use search next time
2. rule number 1 is not to ask for an eta
3. read the OP
4. why dont you make a backup and try it yourself
its just not worth the ware and tear of my keyboard to make them anymore....
but, we were all noobs once, a bit of tolerance is should be given
im totally agree with you,but hey,you cant fight fire with fire, that just leads to your "never ending story"
Hi,
This is my defense, take this thread in the X10 forum...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356580
I have just counted 93 posts deleted by moderators and with the warnings posted, about a dozen took vacations for ignoring the developer and moderators warning of being a Dev only thread. Just because you do not see warnings posted everywhere does not mean nothing is being done, most problems can be sorted out using the new infraction system, we use that all the time now, it is easy to use and straight to the point.
This type of thread cleaning and response is happening all the time, reported posts are dealt with much faster and if anybody needs banning, senior mods are available on gtalk to sort it out immediately.

You harsh, Nah. (I do however get the feeling it was you that closed my first thread posted here.) But having an Avatar that is a Happy Face , with a "Heidelberg Scar" doesn't really convoy a feeling of warm, fuzzy comfort to people. More like good mod / bad mod and Colossus= good mod; he even warns people in a very nice polite way. But temporarily freezing threads seems to be doing a great job of allowing the tensions to diffuse. Kudos for that.

[POLL] Developing Classes

KANG - To steal or a stolen code when referring to programming. Also can refer to leaked coding.
Due to the copious amounts of kanging that now happens in regards to android development I will be pulling all of my links and changing the original posts with this. If you would like to use my roms please feel free to find the kanged version elsewhere.
For inspiring developers, rtfm or ask someone who knows what they are doing before you steal someone elses work, look at someones code and get the general idea. If you port or use something as a base, credit that person. Do not just link back to the thread where you got it from. My email is [email protected] so feel free to ask questions, if I know the answers I will be willing to assist.
I don't wish to call anyone out but I will say there are a few roms, specifically for MT4G Slide that have been kanged. One of which was taken from me, another was a kanged version of CM7 which was just the Settings.apk SettingsProvider.apk and Launcher.apk replaced. CM7 is framework edits, not just a list of apps an entire team works on. You cannot just replace apps in CyanogenMod and expect it to work thus the reason some parts of the Settings.apk force close. Its not hard to be an idiot but its even easier to spot bull**** work, do yourselves a favor, leave xda, leave rootzwiki, leave whatever thread you are on and learn from people who know what the fk they're doing.
If my email fills with hate mail, then fine, at least what I did I feel was right and do not have to worry about my development being taken and rebadged, if I'm out of line then have a moderator delete and close my thread. Thanks!
I have learned a whole lot from you, and couldn't imagine missing them "classes"

Rootz has great guides, so does the google code page when it comes to smali/baksmali (thanks one_love)... But some people have an easier time learning when they are walked through the steps. I also plan on making notes of JKILO's sessions to keep for myself and to give out to those that are interested.

As For Everyone Else
What is a good schedule for you? I'm usually available 8:30PM EST Mon-Thursday and about 9PM Fri-Sun
Im trying to hit whatever is best for all so I'll be flexible as much as possible. I plan to deliver the classes in a certain order too as in, porting, update.zips, logcat reading to get it to boot, editing the ramdisk for permissions or whatever else, and so on
