I have the HTC hero at the mo and have just ordered the X10 and it should be with me on Tuesday next week
But on my Hero I have used Titanium Backup to do a backup of my apps and all the data they have, so I am just wondering how I should go about getting these apps and their data onto the x10 as I can't use Titanium as it needs a rooted phone? Is there a backup app that will do the same as Titainium without needing root?
You can use an app called My Backup Pro... You can purchase from the Market
ASTRO file manager also has an App backup facility... and it's free!
or you could just download app monster for free...
It is possible to take backup with that program, and you can use the same program to install the software on the new phone from the sd card

As above, is 2.1/android simply upgradable through the versions or does it require full re install? Got alot of apps il need to sort out again lol

you can use titanium backup or my backup pro to backup your data and applications and install that application(Titanium/My backup) and do restore which will restore all the other apps and data as well
It just backs up the apps but not the customizations/configurations you did to each of those apps, right?

When the update to 2.1 is released it will do a factory reset and consequently "wipe" your phone. I think the best you can do is use both the SE Backup app and Titanium if you're rooted, that way if the exploid for root works on 2.1 you can just restore everything using Titanium and if not you'll still have another copy of them all with the stock app. Also, I assume you're using AppBrain which would remember all the apps you had anyways and help you re-install them no?
And really, with the updated OS you may find you want to tinker all your settings again or remove certain apps anyways so doing them all over might not be such a bad thing after all. Just my 2 cents, peace
I'm still pretty new to the android roms, I can appreciate the great work being done here!
What methods are you using to backup apps, especially those from the market? For me the biggest draw to android is the apps. Even when trying all the awesome roms here I also want to try out of the apps from the market. I assume that if I buy an app from the market I would be able to download it again without paying for it again. ???
Someone said that titanium backup will do this, but if this is the solution then we would need an apk for titanium backup.
Still, I think, better yet it would be nice to be able to backup, copy the apk file from any program I have installed so when I try out another build or android rom I don't have to go back to the market and re-download any and all apps I like.

Titanium backup is available in the market for download. You can backup the apk using a dike manager program if you would like,so when you install a new build you can just install it from the SD.
Personally, i prefer to just use app brain to synch NY apps and i use the launcher pro backup for my home screen.

App Monster. Its free and you can download it from the Market. You can backup all your downloaded apps to your sd card and batch install them if you try out a new build.

Titanium Backup is also available from the market for free. The paid version just restores easier. (You don't have to click ok for every app) Titanum backup also backs up settings (data)
Your purchases are linked to your gmail account, and you should be able to download again.
Just don't ask the apk of paid version here. It's warez.
I recommend My backup Pro... backs up apps and market links and just works...

Hello all, I am just back from the vodafone store, having picked up my shiney new Xperia play, Desire HD will now be heading onto ebay. However I have many apps on my Desire HD, and also a lot of saved games. Some of my apps, e.g. N64oid, which i paid for in the market, are no longer available. How do I transefr my apps and data. I thought about titanium backup, but as far I know, it needs root access, any ideas?
Not too sure about the save data from my apps, but if you use supermanager, and do a backup, it creates a backup APK folder, just copy this from the old memory card to the new one, and hey presto, new apps to install.
i use adoa file manager, its free from android market. there is an option to backup any app you wish to backup into a folder.
With the many different GB roms coming out, I find myself wanting to try them all. The only thing holding me back is the setup time after I install a ROM. I use to use Titanium Backup to restore all my apps/data/home screens, and it worked great......except for something was causing the endless sync icon because it was restoring some old system files.
My question is this: What does everyone use to restore as much of their data/apps as possible? I know I can continue to use Titanium, just for restoring apps, but I wanted to try to see if there was any better solution out there.

You could try mybackup pro. It will restore pretty much everything for you
With Titanium only choose the option to restore "Applications and Data" Do NOT choose System files. Trust me, I know personally the sync icon. You can find my adventures here:
I almost started a new topic until I saw this. I'm on liberty 2.0.1 (donated), and I'm waiting for an official gingerbread release. anyway, I always use bootstrap clockwork mod to make a backup and then TB pro for app + app data backup / restore.
that always works great and my flashes to other ROMS would be smooth EXCEPT, when I flash I no longer have TB pro. I need to re-download it from the market. no problem - except I have like 100 apps and I can't say "hey just download TB pro". so, I gotta wait like 15 minutes for market to quit downloading **** before I can use TB to restore right over it.. sorta redundant and really slow. any suggestions?

I'll say this again, the application mybackup pro will do all the data and apps that you need. And you do not have to sit there and install them all. It will just do it
Well paid tb does it all for you to and imo works awsome although I havent tried mybackup... Jmoney does it do that for you on free version if so that would def be lookin into for someone who hasnt purchased tb

i dont think you understand my q:
it seems that the mybackup pro does the same thing as TB pro. I don't have to manually do each one. I paid for pro so it can do a batch restore without my intervention. either way though, after you flash roms, you need to re-download mybackup pro or TB pro before you can restore you backups. but when you have 100+ apps trying to download at the same time, it takes 20 minutes to get your mybackup pro or TB pro. then you have to reinstall your backups over the fresh installs thatt the market just did.
its extremely annoying. if I don't sync with my Google account the market doesn't go all nuts, but then I can't download TB pro or mybackup...

I guess you could uncheck the option under Settings/Privacy "Back up my data". That way the market won't go nuts with all the re-installs and you can just install TB and do your restore.
How about this:
Using root explorer, go to data/app/ whatever it is saved as, you'll see the icon, and copy it to somewhere on your sd card. Then, all you have to do is use the file manager that is on every rom to navigate to it and install it. That way, you don't have to use the market
I'm updating RoyalGinger 1.6 to 2.0, usually I just wipe and start fresh, but recently I've been playing alot of games and tweaking settings on my phone and would like to back-up my savs/preferences, as well as my alarm clock settings. Is there a way to backup these up so when I flash the newest roms, I don't have to start over? Thank you in advance.

Titanium is awesome, but I find MyBackup Pro easier to use.
Titanium Backup - keep in mind TB doesn't back itself up so keep an apk on your SD to obtain and install after flash

+1 for Titanium Backup..
The app has the ability to create a zip file with the app on it. Make one and sign it using zip signer off of the market. This way you can flash the Titanium Backup zip file after flashing your rom making it possible to restore without adding your google account. This way the market doesnt try redownloading all of your apps.
+1 for MyBackup Pro being easier to use. And +1 for keeping a copy on your SDcard, it's kinda pointless when market just redownloads all your apps anyways...
I use Titanium back up pro just because it's stupid EASY to use. Set a automatic back up @ xx:yy time every day. It automatically backs up. When you want to restore menu > batch > restore missing app & data.

as far as people, who use Titanium backup, wanting to back up applications into a .apk. Super Manager and Absolute System Tools both do this. And both are free.
someone posted also about backing up your apn settings, with some free market app called apn backup or whatever, since some people had trouble remembering what to plug in to the RG2.0 settings there.
im also looking at moving from 1.6 to 2 just like you, but i wish i knew more about this market automatically redownloading all your apps thing. what i did was use mybackup to backup my stock 2.2.1 sms and email settings (plus some apps and data) , and then was able to restore all my sms texts, which was good.
i found that the apps i restored werent then set to update via the market. maybe i should have backed up the market app with data, with mybackuppro to maintain the link between apps and the market?
