I figured its about time to let you guys know what this means. First of all, ever heard of ROT13? Its a method of changing wording of a section of text by rotating every letter by 13. Its always reversible, as there are 26 letters in the alphabet.
Someone came up with an encoding called ROT47, which allowed you to use characters too. So, run this through a ROT47 generator, and you get:

I was working on opening it to find out.... so far unpacked the 7Z which now leaves: system.tar.gz.bz2 and now I gotta get back to real work... I can't wait to here what it turns out to be!

does that mean anything for eris users?
Its a dump of /system/ from the mytouch 3g slide. Simple - get someone to make a rom of it. I dont have an eris anymore, so i'm not going to do it (no way to test it). I know Framework is working on one.

Is this able to be flashed to the eris leak to give us root? Or is this only if you have root?
This can not be installed on an Eris as is, it would have to be ported.
This may be a dumb question, but if it is ported, is it rooted/will it install on an Eris with 2.1 leak?
My guess is no, as porting will change the key and...well, back at square one.

The only file I saw under system/etc/firmware/ is TIInit_5.2.53.bts
I checked both my old stock 1.5 backup and Gumbo 1.5c :-/
Are you sure it's from the CDMA Hero Rom and not from a different phone like the G1?

Yeah, I have class in 10 but I'm heading over to a friends house after. He has a G1 I just helped him root yesterday so I'll see if i can pull it off of his phone.

You can have a camera just not the android camera go to the market and download (Camera Magic)

I like Camera Magic better. It is faster, more resolutions to chose, and full screen viewing.

lol, there's really no "best" ROM. It all depends on what you want. If you're a noob you would probably want to try out something stable and CM's will be the first stable & fully functional 2.1 release for the G1. I might recommend waiting for that. In the meantime you should probably root your phone if you haven't already and install a 1.6-based ROM. (Almost all of them are stable - you can pick just about any of them.)

EDIT: I initially posted this in the android general section, but now realize it was a stupid idea.
EDIT 2: Just to avoid confusion, this is not a rom, this is just the sdk dump. I merely got the sdk, then used unyaffs to extract the system.img
EDIT 3: If any developer uses this and makes a rom for us, it would be nice if I could see my name somewhere in the credits for extracting this. But its just a wish. You dont have to if you dont want to.

Yes, hopefully. It does use SpeedMod Kernel, but I have doubts that will cause a problem if you follow flashing procedures correctly.

Well, if you press the power button to wake the screen up, the unlock screen takes 5 MINUTES(holy, cow!) to come up! You can only bring it up quick if you PLUG IN CHARGER OR USB. Weir, huh? Just remember that well when testing.

Hello my friends, my name is mrtaylor and I am reasonably new to the forums and pretty much a newbie when it comes to things like this too.
bare with me, probably scaring you all off by saying that but I have an announcement!
I've spent the last few hours tinkering away and have come up with four useful tools to help people that are not to familiar with android and need a hand when it comes to modding, rooting, etc.
the tools I have created are not "new" by any means but i have put them all together In an easy manageable folder with everything needed to execute them.
Tools Included
Root
Installing Custom Recovery
Removing Unlocked Bootloader Warning
Restore Without Data Wipe
These are just a couple to get started and before I continue with the development of these and decide to turn it into a fully fledged executable tool with nice pretty colors and ponies i need a few people to TEST them.
So, anyone interested then please reply to this thread and I will PM you the dl link, i would really appreciated the help and feedback.
these tools are based on the xt1068 build but I'm sure they will work for all models.
