Repair MP4 video file - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi guys, I've recorded a 30min mp4 video with my HD2 but it seems that the file is somehow corrupt, the video start playing but after some mins the image freeze (the sound is still there...). Also on my computer I'm not able to play the file.
Does anyone had problems with mp4 files recorded on their phones and was able to fix/repair the files ?
Thanks.

Same happens for me (VGA 640x480, mp4), the files aren't playable neither on HD2 nor on PC.
Tried already some PC programs like All Media Fixer, but without success.
Anybody a hint what I can try to fix the mp4-files?

i have a vid captured with my hd2 which is corrupt as well.. would luv to know if anyone solves this..

have you tried Yamb? I have found it to be quite capable with many formats.

Hi Lads
Google this, Disk Doctor's Digital Media Recovery. this
is able to recover video, for example MP4, MOV, AVI, MPG from iPod, HDD, USB, or any other devices.
Russ

I tried to repair my corrupt mp4 files with yamb but it failed to repair. Disk Doctor I have not tried. If you guys have succeeded in repairing your files please share your experience and solution. Thanks in advance

I have the same problem: after recording a longer video with my HD2 (200 MB and more) I cannot play it. MP4 is corrupted. MP4 repir tools do not help

I met with an same problem! I recorded video of 600 MB by hd2, but when it start playing I can only see green and blurr screen! On pc too I can't see video! I tried mp4 recovery software, but failed! Please, has anybody got the solution to recover mp4 video? My video is very important, any help ll be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Didi you record this video in android? In the camcorder settings, was it in 720p (1280x720)? If so then yeah, you can expect so, the HD2 can't record in HD, atleast, not yet.

nope, done in windows mobile..

Hi! I've got the same problem.I've tried several programs and don't work for me...
This is a very-very important video.Larger than 300mb.
Is there a solution???
Please!!!!!! :-(

Is there any solution yet?
I have the same problem on my HD2 Windows Mobile.

There is a solution, I fixed 4 damaged MP4 files (sizes from 80MB to 225MB) from my HD2 (flat battery does it every time) only problem is I don't know what I did, damaged files where from sept 2010 and it took me until April to find a solution and fix, it was a free downloaded software and it worked every time, got sound and video working. I'll scour my pc and bookmarks and report back with hopefully some good news....

Desperately need a solution to this too!
Have googled and tried a number of solutions with at best only partial success, will be very grateful if someone can solve this!

Okay guys, found the software I used, it was downloaded from
http://www.grauonline.de/cmsimple2_6/en/?Solutions:HD_Video_Repair_Utility
It was Freeware and had a "SAY THANKYOU BUTTON" included, not so anymore, that button has been replaced with "PURCHASE UNLOCK CODE"
I'm using version 1.5 from April 2011 and the latest is 1.61
Just ran it again on the damaged 225MB damaged MP4 file from my HTC HD2 and once again it recovered without a hitch. Attached is a picture of the settings I used.
Version 1.61 demo will allow you to test the software before paying a hefty 99 euro for unlimited use or 29 euro for 5 repairs OUCH!!!!

Hope it's given you all a glimmer of hope. Pity it's not freeware anymore though....

The green / blurry video is a horrible bug in the camcorder on windows mobile, you do not even know the video is corrupted until you stop the recording and play it back.
Fortunately it does not happen on android. I have a few videos from before I switched to android that I wanna try and repair with some of these suggestions.
Update: Thanks quangy, the program does seem to repair the green blurry videos. Too bad it only does half the video unless you buy the full version. At least we may have a solution now.

No problem, glad it works. All my corrupt videos where from battery dying and none would show any signs of playing so it's satisfying that the software also sorts out other problems.
Would love to post V1.5 which was freeware and thus no half repair issues. Need advice if I am allowed to do this and how to do it.
Not sure what improvements that v1.61 has over v1.5, maybe more devices supported, my version behaves and looks the same.
Anyone else tried the software yet?????

Video (Divx) Playback OK or not?

I am considering getting a Wizard (Qtek 9100) to replace my almost dead XDA2.
However a very important aspect for me is playing videos. I already re-size videos for my XDA2 to 320x240 250-400Kbit depending on what it is and audio 56kbit/s all at 25fps (sometimes less).
They work fine on the XDA2 of course (Betaplayer can run around 300% on the benchmark). Will they be OK on a wizard?
I guess this does not answer your question totally, but I have a K-Jam, and I encoded a couple of DVDs to DIVX and played on my phone using TCPMP(betaplayer) without any problems. Smooth playback.
The settings that i used for dix encoding was around 150kbps 320x240 size (25fps) with 96kbps audio.
Havent fiddled too much with the encoding settings and will try again with higher bitrate, though that would increase the size quite a bit i guess.
I think you would be surprized at what all the 200Mhz OMAP850 processor can do - as long as you do not run a LOT of heavy applications at the same time.
Thanks. I was guessing that if my XDA2 can run at 300% then the wizard would at least be able to run at 100% ... but really wanted to make sure as i use it a lot for films.
the processor is good, but the programs aren't yet addapted to this processor...
maybe you should also consider the Eten M600, if you don't mind to lose the great keyboard. Everything is better on the M600, better processor, better camera, better support and upgrades,...but it hasn't the nice keyboard...but you could use the application 'FullScreenKeyboard' to solve that problem.
the screen on the Wizard (Qteck9100) is really great and very clear...I don't know about the screen on the Eten M600.
I do have a wizard now, but if I would lose it, i don't know if i would buy the wizard again or go for the Eten M600...It also depends on the fact of the applications will get adapted for the DualCore processor of the wizard, because, like i said, the processor isn't that bad, but it can be slow with some applications....
video goes very well on the wizard, no problems with it yet...
CIAO!
VOODOOS!L
No I want the keyboard... I REALLY want the keyboard... I like everything about the Wizard... my only worry was the video, i use it on airplanes a lot.
If the M600 had 640x480 then i might have thought about losing the keyboard.
Other than video I just need email, ICQ etc. and perhaps VOIP ... all of which seem to work OK to some degree.
I also like the fact its smaller than my XDA2....

But it's fatter, because of the keyboard. But thats OK since that IS a feature you want in any case.

PocketDIVXencoder. Approximately 340 kbps video+64 kbps sound. Smooth playback.
Wow!
PocketDIVXencoder is really good! Thanks for hooking us up!
I just converted an episode of a TV show and set it to highest quality picture and sound, and it played fine, no scips or jumps at all and the quality was great!
I have been using a program that work great.

my div x player is not working.
although my windows media player is also not working properly.
the working properly means that they both are not playing my video songs and clips.
so plz help mee..
if one can do ..
tell me the best player ....
i have O2 XDA ....
Hey Pobman,
I am in exactly the same position, however I am just upgrading from the original XDA which I have been able to upgrade due to this amazing forum.
Please let me know how good the wizard is with video as it is a major factor for me and will help me decide between this and the universal.
Thanks
Jayman
Just streamed a movie from my pc via wifi and played on my wizard with TCPMP, these were the settings, it has a weird frame size due to it being wide screen.

On a similar note, what would be the maximum resolution, bitrate and framerate for smooth playback of wmvs? Or is this format not a good choice for the Wizard?
John
does the wizard play movies in fullscreen flawlessly?
jdg, Yerp..plays it well smooth...just make sure nothing like active sync runs in the background

Tcpmp Wma Fix

hi guys i m back again with one more solution.
sorry for a new theread cause i m not able to edit my previous post "3rd part applications" due to some browser problem.
After fighting a lot with tcpmp i got the way to solve WMA support issue.
in wm6 the deocder for WMA is named as WMA9prodecoder.dll while in previous windows it is named as WMAdecoder.dll this is the reason which do not allow TCPMP to use the windows WMA decoder.
here u go
just download and put this dll file into ur windows folder and ur TCPMP will get the decoders of WMA.

strange file... even vlc cant open it...
try to convert it or make a screenshot & mp3 cause video is same all the time
Thanks someone tried to play it please keep trying to help me.
My i760 came with a small wav player that will pop up in Total Commander (or any file explorer) and play the file. I hear there are some "search" options available if I'm not mistaken HINT! HINT!
It is encoded with the latest WMV9 codec, you won't be able to play this on anything but Windows Media Player 10 or later.... NO PPC player will play it without conversion.... not even CorePlayer (it only supports upto WMV8)
If you really must get it playing on PPC go get a video converter and put it into a useful format like mpg or h264.

if it works on pc windows media player, have u tried using windows movie maker/ windows media encoder to transfer to your phone, works for me
Oh, I see what you guys are saying... It is a *.wmv file!
Sorry, I only meant the audio part, not the video.
But i need video specially.
This should work on your phone. It worked on mine.
http://xpdnc.org/downloads/temp/ccent31.avi
I didn't mean for the file size to increase so much, but I wasn't sure what sort of codecs a PPC could handle. I tried a newer Xvid codec at first, and it didn't work. So I reverted to a PPC-specfic AVI container with a generic MPEG4 codec. Hopefully you have 5MB of free space somewhere.

I used SUPER.
The download process is a bit of a pain in the butt because they hide everything beneath gigantic walls of text.
1. Go here: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html#Down
2. Click the link that says, "Start Downloading SUPER ©"
3. Click the link that says, "download and use"
4. Click the down arrow (

), or just scroll to the bottom.
5. Click the link that says, "Download SUPER © setup file"
I know it's a ridiculous navigation process, but that's what they make you do. In exchange, you get a free program that does a decent job with converting files. Just toy with it. Test it on some small video files and see what looks best for you.

Best Youtube Program?

Hello. I was wondeirng if anyone can recommend a good youtube program besides youtubeplay? youtubeplay is ok, but It doesnt let you list by date or relivance or whatever. Also, is there any program that plays or downloads veoh.com videos? Thanks
The best way to play ANY streaming media site on a win mo smartphone imho, is the skyfire webbrowser:
http://www.skyfire.com
use phelps8 to get an instant download.
Any streaming media site I've used works awesome with skyfire. Takes some getting used to. check the forums for details. But sites like hulu.com work AWESOME with it for watching full episodes or movies..
mycast.orb.com when set to stream in flash will open right in the browser too which is incredible for streaming off a home PC...
break.com,youtube.com,stupidvideos.com etc etc all work great.
I use CorePlayer and it works great
Skyfire works awsome!! feels like im on a PC viewing the many video streaming sites..only one that doesnt seem to work is veoh..doesnt load the videos
YouTubeplay
CorePlayer has a YouTube quick-button, with several quick choices, like "Most popular" and "most linked to." But beware: The program can hang your 6800 if you go full-screen, requiring a soft-reset.
I've read great things about the new multimedia player with the Japanese-sounding name (K-something?); can't think of it now. It was designed for rich Web content from the ground up.
Kinoma ?
Kinoma
That's it: Kinoma.
Thanks to this thread, I installed YouTubePlay. It works flawlessly; rotation and full-screen toggling cause no freezes. I'll still use CorePlayer for music. Mostly, I watch downloaded TV shows. For that, I prefer Windows Media Player because I've installed a plug-in that lets it remember where I left off...just as my Audible Player does for books I've bought at Audible.com.

I think it operates better in full screen mode as well.
youtubeplay plays the lower quality youtube streams, that's why it works "good". The quality is poor.

well, if you watching it on your phone's bandwidth, you might not want to wait for a high quality file to stream over evdo, or use the extra data if you don't have an unlimited plan.
Skyfire plays embedded flash videos pretty well, but its at around 15 frames per second, so its not as smooth as watching it at home, or downloading it first.
TCPMP with the flashVideoBundle.cab installed works well with pocket IE and will give you the option of downloading the video to your phone (so you can watch it later), or streaming it right on the spot (after a short buffer), which works pretty well.

Cheers Eraser , works a bloody treat , you gotta love the speed that it transcodes files . Great work .
how's the image quality compared to x264 based converters at the same bitrate?
I kind of take it all back , converts super fast but slaps DRM over everything , won't let me play on my htc . bummer .
maybe i am doing something wrong but i can't find out how to turn DRM off .

That is a joke isn't it? Badaboom is a GPU video encoder, the fact that it doesn't hog the CPU like most encoders is what makes it so good.

Yes, and just try to encode some ~1hour from movie for my X1.
Quadcore CPU 6800 - 20mins
Nvidia GTX 260 GPU - 6mins
i hope badaboom will support xperia 800x480 resolution in next versions
Wow, this is awesome. Maybe 20 minutes or so for a normal movie for me. The end product is bigger in size than if you were to use one of the two "made for Touch HD" applications our members have created, BUT the movies look superb and play smooth as butter with no audio sync problems at all.
Pop your DVD in and after you've set up this profile for the HD click "Start", then copy the file over to your HD. Excellent! It also looks like you can do VOB directory too if you've already ripped all your media to harddrive, but I haven't tested it yet. I'll have to try that next to see if it's any faster than ripping right from DVD.
Thanks for pointing this out! Wonderful!
Looks great but everytime I instal and start up badaboom it restarts my system. Any clues??
Thanks Eraser, this is great. It also works on the latest version 1.2.1
This would probably get more hits if it was posted in the Apps and Themes section though.
