[ROM] 1.5 Downgrade With Root - Droid Eris Android Development

Re-Cooked Jcase's dowgrade patch
Added Root w/ superuser
Zipaligned to speed up Ram
Cooked with dsixda's Kitchen....
works awsome...
this will downgrade your radio as well to the Shipped eris Radio
so if you want a Stock phone with root keeping ota certs so u can get the
2.1update when its pushed, all you need to do is flash the bootloader and
recovery from jcase's downgrade package.
Happy flashing.

1.5 Downgrade to Cupcake
Will this 1.5 Cupcake downgrade work on an Eris that has had the 2.1 Leak Installed?

Sorry
Ok so further reading leads me to believe this is NOT for LEAK. Sorry for the Question. Just following links looking for some CURE for the 2.1 LEAK I landed here. In the QUest for searching endlessly for a cure, I got my hopes up. Keep up the Great Work. I will wait patiently, hoping someone will find a way to fix for use that Jumped on the LEAK too soon.

To date there is no root nor downgreade for those on the leak. We are working on it.

Besides the root and such, this will run as if i just bought the phone?

worked great!

Question, i seem to have lost the home weather under the time, anyway to get it back?

You could try FlashBack15 at the very bottom of the first post. This will unroot your phone. Then you could hope for the OTA upgrade and re-root (or is it just as easy to root from 1.5?).

The Eris Cupcake releases (1.5: 1.16.605.1 & 1.17.605.1) are susceptible to the "wag3slav3" symlink rooting exploit, so they can be rooted, for instance with the (Android Forums) "dummies" method. Jcase's "one click" rooting app for the Eris was built with Android 2.1 dependencies, so even though the rooting method works with 1.5, the rooting app does not).
I'm not sure why an MEID would ever needs to be "fixed", however. Smells kinda fishy to me.

Do not apply PART2 OTA 2.1 update - If you need root.

I would like to remind ppl, because many of you didn't think about...
If you will apply, 2.1 OTA update, on your 1.5, you will LOOSE ability to root. Don't be fools, and wait until you get "official" rooted 2.1, then flash it by yourself.
Please someone make it more clear if possible...
...But 2.1 official cannot be rooted, after update.
So turn off your Update check on your phone, and wait until there will be 2.1 rooted.
P.S
Looks like there is possibility to downgrade from OTA 2.1!! Omg
May I ask why HEOR upgraded to official 2.1 OTA couldn't be rooted??
It is temporary unable or permanently??
Can you substantiate this claim? Proof that the instantroot method (using the package installer's privileges) does not work on 2.1 for instance?
@iholleh
It's not possible to root at the moment, it could be quite a while before someone figures out how to root it if its already on a device, however if its looked at enough I'm sure they will do it. when its officially released it will be rooted very quickly to be flashed as a zip.
good to know...thanks for hte info!

Thx bro! I just upgraded to 2.1 OTA and trying to downgrade to 1.5, failed however...
Wait for good news
I think we need to make clear. What to do if.
I installed the first package (First OTA, PART 1, Youtube App update)?
Like I heard in develop, if I installed part 1 update, this stupid youtube update, i need downgrade.
I don't really understand why, and how to do that. I think many of noobs like me are interested, what to do now.
I have promted by my phone that 2.1 update is realeased, and I did not downlnoad it, because I would like to have root, to install in a future Android 2.2, etc.
If so, and i have Firmware build number 2.73.405.93, or 2.73.405.94, or 2.73.405.95. What should I do?
Please someone, write step by step action guide.
(Downgrade, root, install rooted 2.1?) If so, how exactly?
I also understand that, there is 100000000000 of guides out there, but IMHO we need new one for a while.
Situation with "not installed" OTA part 1 is little bit easier? Normal ROOT, and install for coocked, and rooted official 2.1?

I guess so, but how likely is it that the hero's 2.1 firmware is different in this regard from anything else? A quick google confirmed that the InstantRoot method works on nexus one and motorola droid.
Edit: But a little longer google had me wondering if it does work on 2.1 again. Sorry, I should check more carefully. If anyone has tried it do step up.
Check out dev. section. Looks like there is way to downgrade.

What if I want to root it up to 2.2 (Froyo) that would be fine because it is like you are upgrading to newer firmware?
Hi i just have a stupid question :
i'm quite lost with all the stuffs about the 2.1 update :
i have a 1.5 stock rooted rom on my hero.
i would like to update to 2.1 but keep the root thing.
and i want not to wipe my phone
So what i undestand is :
- if i update : i'm not root anymore and won't be able to do it with the 2.1
- if i want to be 2.1+root i have to use a full rom (rooted) to have both but i have to wipe my phone.
Is that right ?
Is there or will it be a way to have an update (not wiping phone), in 2.1, and with root maintained from my 1.5 ??
Thanx for help.. i don't what to do with this ota update...

Does this really work and do the rooted apps function? Why does this work and the bootloader has not been cracked? Cunfused....
And now there's this too.
I cant seem to get this to work. I downloaded the file, went and clicked root me and it just sits there. How long does it normally take
If that's all you did, then you need to reread the instructions. I'm sure it clearly states to toggle Bluetooth or wifi. I don't want to burn anyone but in my opinion, if you can't follow instructions maybe you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

this is incorrect. you can root your 2.2 Droid X with this method: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/26/droid2-rooting-method-works-for-droidx-running-froyo/
worked like a charm on first go for me.
My speaker on the back of my droidx is blown i need to take it to verizon. How do i get rid of superuser permissions app in app drawer? I rooted with universal androot. I was told you have to remove it first then unroot. So i looked for it in app manager to delete it but its not there. I tried unrooting it still not there. Rooted it back still not there. Update: We Have Root!!! and it works!

@unrevoked
unrEVOked forever v1.1 is now available. S-ON, more EVO radios and CDMA Hero: http://unrevoked.com/forever
@unrevoked
Amazing work from Sebastian Krahmer. His latest exploit also works on Froyo 2.2 on the EVO: http://c-skills.blogspot.com/
Looks like we now have what we have all been waiting for.
Update: I Followed the last link I shared on here for the guide and have successfully rooted my evo. So if you want your evo rooted go the the development forum and follow the guide. but here's the link again if you need it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496
i was thinking this as well.. but thinking about it further.. unrevoked rorever requires a custom recovery to be installed first. to get that custom recovery you need to run unrevoked 3. unrevoked 3 still has the disclaimer: Unrevoked 3 does NOT work on Stock Froyo (Android 2.2) Phones
:-/
Yeah, little skeptical still.. Wish I wasn't at work, I'd try it out.
It looks like unrevoked found the exploit to get into the phone now and then you have the programs to run it. They will probably update something to show us how to do it all together.
But they found out how to get in that's all that matters.
So from what I'm understanding is the new way to root the droid 2 is the same exploit that works for the evo and will work.
Here's the thread for the droid 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764950
So from what I understand is if you follow those instructions it should work.
@unrevoked
If you're desperate to root an EVO with Froyo, watch this space for a downgrade/unrevoked^3/unrevoked forever method: http://bit.ly/dg2Fu4
nice ill wait until this method is thoroughly tested on the evo, but glad to see 2.2 rooted!
DAMN! This will lower the value of my EVO when I go to sell it in about a week. Booooo!
Great, now I can send by mine back for replacement since my 4g keys are borked.

not to sound ignorant, but what does this new root entail ? caz i have evo (came with 2.1) did root it with unrevoked forever and have been using custom froyo roms. currently i am using fresh evo 3.1.0.2.
so back to my original question, what does this new root do? is it just for the new evos which comes preloaded with 2.2?
thanx
It works great! A little lengthy but well worth it!
All it is.. is to make root for people who had 2.2 froyo or had it installed when bought.. brings it back to 2.1 so you can root your evo.

[Q] Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Rooting

Hello XDA
I recently updated my phone through Verizon to
Android Version 2.3.3
System Verion 4.5.596
Before I was interested in rooting. I have been researching and tried everything I could find to root this version
but nothing has worked. (gingerbreak, z4root, easyroot, ect.) I did a factory reset/system wipe.
(still 2.3.3 - 4.5.596 on reset)
Am I doing something wrong? Should this version be rooting with GingerBreak or another root program?
(They all are stuck on loading screens never finish or reboot)
or (from what I have read) do I need to rollback to an earlier version to be able to load the 'prerooted'
gingerbread OS?
I am fairly new to this, and am sorry for my ignorance. If it is out there somewhere a link would safice
but as of now I haven't been able to find anything dealing directly with my situation. Thank you for any
and all help.
-Laskowsky
There's no rooting method through stock 2.3.3 yet
you're gonna have to SBF back to stock .340 and flash p3droid's OTA rooted gingerbread ROM
Ok, I was hoping there was a simplier way but expected that for the most part from what I had read. Thank you.
Rooting my Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Droid X
I don't want to sound redundant to skate 72w but I have searched the forums up and down.. Is there any other one-click way to root my stock GB 4.5.596 droid x? I found this article
I do not see where it talks about the 4.5.596...
If not, can someone please direct me in the right way to get froyo back so I can have my wireless tether back!
Thanks,
-Nick

p3 tends to 'find' things that other folks don't have. He has a rooted .596 but it's achieved through flashing. He has not announced a way to root the OTA, and I think he would do so if he had one.

Is the sticky still there?
I would consider myself to be a noob when it comes to rooting, all i want it for is the wireless tethering. I have done an sbf once but dont feel very good about doing it again, and am just looking for another one click method to rooting like z4root. I am running on gingerbread 4.5.596 from verizon.
OTA Root
I love my Droid X - hate the VZ CRAPWARE.
I now have the 4.5.596 (2.3.3) OTA update.
The only update method to obtain root is to SBF to Froyo - Root - and install the TBH/P3 Droid pre-rooted update.
At this point, I have too many apps installed and too many settings to reconfigure to take the route.
My main goal is to obtain root (such as a Z4 root style one click) so that I can maintain all my apps and configurations. Once I root, then I can freeze all the VZ Crap (every Google Maps update requires me to choose between GM and VZ Navigator the first time 1 click an address, and having to choose the contacts database EVERY TIME to Google is a PITA - Backup Assistant should be something I can DISABLE).
Sorry for the rant - to the point - does anyone know if ongoing efforts are being made to create a one-click Root for the Droid X? (Or a multi step that preserves data / apps / and settings)

Help? 2.2 vs 2.3.3 vs 2.3.4?!?

Okay, so bare with me. I am still on 2.2 running visionary r13 one touch and oc'd. I haven't messed with my phone since last year and this is as far as I got and was completely satisfied running this setup.
I have had the 2.3.3 ota hit my phone but I didn't install yet. When I researched a bit, it seems that many people are getting 2.3.4. Will I have to install 2.3.3 first and I will get an immediate OTA for 2.3.4? Furthermore, if I install 2.3.3, or 2.3.4, how will I go about oc'ing my phone again? I'm assuming there might not be an easy 1 touch root available. I'm limited to my abilities and found visionary 1 touch convenient and easy. Any help for a noob would be great!

well once you ota, you need to root your phone again before you can oc. also you need to ota to 2.3.3 before 2.3.4. also DO NOT USE VISIONARY, it will brick your phone

I would personally recommend that you first properly root your phone using the wiki method (gfree). Then you can flash a pre-rooted OTA update. That way you'll keep root but also be on the latest software.
possible to "gfree" (root) even 2.3.3 stock?

If you're currently on the 2.3.3 OTA update, you'll first have to downgrade to 2.2, then achieve root with the gfree method, then go back to 2.3.3 with a pre-rooted ROM. Info I believe has made it into the wiki, but you may have to search some of the recent threads in here also.
do not update to 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 unless already rooted on froyo. There still is no official rooting method for those ota's. You will have to downgrade, root, s-off etc then flash a pre-rooted stock rom...or any rom for that matter. I am running completely stock 2.3.4 pre rooted and it runs great! Also as far as i know you do not need to move from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 you can go straight to 2.3.4. Also As far as i understand it t-mo messed up and labeled the update as 2.3.3 but it was really 2.3.4 once applied.

uninstall visionary, follow wiki to root, s-off, supercid (sim unlock) install clockworkrecovery and eng hboot. sounds like alot but gfree does it all in one shot. then your free to flash any pre rooted ota, or cm7, whatever you choose. and you wont brick your device...
hope this helped.

Sorry but this is bad advice. You shouldn't be using visionary for temp root either. It is unnecessary.
Well I'm just stating what I did. I just followed the sticky thread and out went without a hitch. Figured that it was there because it was a trusted method. Oh well, sorry it worked for me lol.

I agree that if you do use Visionary, it should only be used for temp and not perm root, but there are plenty of ways to root without visionary, and there's no need to mess with it.
