New Community Project: Enable AGPS on the SCH-i920 - Omnia II General

In QSPT there was no gpsOne chip available for browsing. I ran QXDM and didn't see any PDE server information there. IS there a Qualcomm GPS chip inside?
What I am hoping is that we can flash a radio to this Verizon device to enable the AGPS for the Telus PDE server or otherwise..
I am hoping that we can get this project started as a community and tell Verizon where to shove it.
If you have a CDMA Omnia II that's not on Verizon, let me know, I'd like to see what you have available in QPST.
Hopefully we can do what they did for the titan and change the radio.

Alltel PPC6800 on Verizon

Buddy switching to ATT giving me his Alltel branded PPC6800 if I flash the dcd rom, 3.35 radio rom and vzw carrier cab should it work on verizon? Are there any other hurdles I might encounter?
Thanks,
-1
i doubt you will get verizon to activate it since it isnt one of there esn's, thats one thing i like about alltel they will try and activate any esn you give them they dont care where it came from
Thought I would update for everyone: I got an Alltel PPC 6800 on VZW. Here's how:
1) Logged into VZW My Business Account
2) Account Maintenance
3) Step 1: Enter cellphone number, click search
4) Action: Activate Equipment
5) Enter HEX ESN from Alltel phone
6) Ran through http://ppc.stoleyour.net/xv6800/ instructions to update radio, rom and carrier cab (thanks to Lord Cruik Shank nice howto)
7) Ran through http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20090 Steps 5 - 7 to load the DMU Key with QPST (thanks to drellisdee)
8) ##778 Edit Security HDR Password to HEX ESN
Everything seems to be working I haven't tested the speed but EV stays on the screen. I also haven't test GPS yet. Will report back later.
Wow that is crazy......I can not wait to hear more...I had no idea that was possible....I did not realize alltel used GSM I thought they were CDMA. Does that phone have a sim card?
Ahhh.
Major USA CDMA Providers: Sprint, VZW, Alltel, Cricket that i can think of.
Major USA GSM Providers: T-Mobile, ATT ahhhh not sure
Not to mention VZW just purchased Alltel last month. But really you could can use any CDMA Titan (6800) on any CDMA carrier, if you can get the ESN on the network, and the right programming.
CDMA is more popular in the USA because the coverage area is better than GSM. Although I wish it was the opposite way around. GSM providers are alot more open on the device side.

How to activate Sprint Hero? Now it is in offline mode.

I brought Sprint Hero which BAD ESN from ebay. I understand it is unable to activate on Sprint. Currently, I am trying to use it with other carrier but there is no signal(marked X). I have checked network status by using CDMA workshop, it show "offline mode" and state show "entering CDMA network". Comparing to my old one, it show different. Can anyone help me to fix this? is this about activation? But i have changed ESN.
Don't know why but when I hear bad esn I always think "stolen". Anways Hopefully all you did is change the esn. Did you put a new prl in there? That is a must try that and see how it goes. What carrier did you put it on? If you get The settings in there correctly and it's not a well known apn post please.
I'm trying to use it with CDMA 800 Cellular (Thailand). I have change prl to the one support my carrier. (Verizon and Alltel include SID/NID of my carrier to their PRL). I thought it's because hero200 is only support PCS. After several searching, it seems heo200 support on both PCS and Cellular. IF it is incorrect, please suggest. Verizon phone can get signal here. I have seen the BB tour working when change network to 1x. it got a signal marked with 1x sign.
By the way, i am in Belgium. i bring the working one which is samsung here. Off-cause no signal as i know that there is no CDMA network. But what i want to check is the status in CDMA workshop and the status doesn't show offline mode which is different from Sprint Hero(Always show offline mode). I start thinking that something wrong which my sprint hero that why ex-owner what to sell it. Hope somebody can find the way out for me.

[PREMOD] Modding Motorola Xoom Verizon for speaking HSPA+

I'm on the best way, here the facts:
1.) Crossflashing Xoom VZW with the System Image(Tiamat Kernel as boot) of European 3G Xoom is working fine after fastboot -w (complete wipe)
2.) With a firmware upgrade of Atirx 4G CDMA we saw, it is possible to reconfigure MDM6600 for GSM
3.) Simcardslot is working fine with GSM Simcards
Hi all,
Yesterday I got my Xoom. I'm how you see from Austria(Europe), but I ordered it from over the sea because I saw in a teardown, that there is a MDM6600 chip built in.
Now I have it, HSPA is not working, but should only be limited to CDMA by the firmware.
I would like to change that.
My first idea is, to search for MDM6600 driver sources, compile them for the tegra and replace the existing... but this expect, that the limitation is in the libril and not in the kernel...
Any thoughts to this topic?
edit: stupid me, first of all would be nice to take a look at etc
someone has an idea what the location.cfg is, and what the flag DL_LCS_NETWORK_3GPP (set to 0) are doing?
Kind Regards
Ralph

I have no idea how to help but I sure would like to. If there is anything I can do let me know I'm all set up to do all kinds of stuff I just would not know where to begin.

Just 'cause the chip does both modulation schemes doesn't mean the appropriate antenna-interface hardware is built into the device. They put a 6600 in there 'cause they fully expected to push out a GSM version; I'd just wait for that one.
concerning the antennas(from www.motorola.com):
CDMA 800 /1900 LTE 700, Rx diversity in all bands
would be a bit funny, to use a multiband chip, to need not to produce different devices, but differ by the antennas
regards
Not to mention the fact that there is a place to stick a sim card in no the top of the device
Sim card slot is for the lte upgrade...
The SIM card is for LTE in the States, but again- just 'cause the chip is in there doesn't mean the US-spec Xoom has the requisite hardware (not to mention the proprietary Qualcomm modem SW) to let it run on GSM in the versions shipped in the states.
When we make GSM handsets at my clients, we even have to make separate hardware for the I, II, V-banded stuff (AT&T) vs. the I, II, IV-banded stuff (T-Mobile), and that's all with the same chipset.
You are going to need to take a good look at the NVM and amss.mbn(radio baseband image) in order to make this work.
Have you used RadioComm to read and dump the NVM?
That would be an excellent place to start. Unless of course, you had access to MDM6600 GSM radio images and source code...
I don't have even the slightest knowledge necessary to be able to contribute to this conversation but I do know that I am planning to go out the country for quite a while and would love to be able to connect to a wireless data service of any kind. I will be in a country with cdma also but of course it is not verizons.
If what you are trying to do works I would happily try to donate something out of appreciation. The idea of my xoom working with gsm networks would be more than a dream come true. I wish you all the best. Let me know if there is anything I can do (I know there isn't though, I really dont know the first thing about modding other than that the modders are awesome!)

Good Morning,
There is something confusing me, and it seems I've to think about something I cannot imagine actually.
So my big stupid question:
Do you need a simcard to connect to verizon's cdma network?
And if not, how are you athentificating in the net?
Regards
Ralph
CDMA authenticates to its network via the combination of the MEID (formerly known as "ESN") and the MIN, both of which are hardwired into the firmware of the device.
Ok, so the device is authentificating, but from where do the network know that you are user xyz? In gsm networks because of the simcard id, and in cdma nets?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
They associate the MEID/MID/MIN to your account.
For example, they scanned the barcode from my Xoom when I bought it and added it to the Verizon account they had already finished setting up for me. Once I got it home and hit the "Activate Device" button, the device got on the VZ network, where the setup information (the phone number, PRL, etc.) got downloaded to the CDMA 3G radio. But all that happened 'cause the VZ servers were already set up to associate that MEID to me beforehand.
ouch, that means there is a massive firmwaremod needed so that it can use the simcardslot for auth...
ok, please tell me what you know about how transfering the data from the sim to the chip works (bookmarks and so on)
do the ril-daemon play a role?
thanks

Now no sim card is used to connect to Verizon's 3G network. The new 4G Lte network will use a sim card, but that has yet to be activated. At present you connect to Verizon's 3g network through the cdma radio which needs to be registered and then activated by them, but it does not use a sim card.

The sim card slot is a dummy slot right now, there are no electronics in there that can even read a sim card right now. When you send out the Xoom for the LTE upgrade they will put a real modem in there with the sim card slot. It is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to convert the Verizon Xoom to GSM at this point in time.

Key words: "...at this point in time."
That may change once the hardware is in place for the SIM slot it MAY be possible to build a radio image that can access GSM/HSPA bands.
Not easy, but not impossible.

You would also need to modify the antenna to pick up the correct frequencies, they usually aren't on the same band as CDMA. For example VZW is the only carrier going for a total 700mhz 4G network.

That's almost correct. There's a working, active SIM-card slot that's hooked up to a serial port on the CPU; reading a SIM card right now would just be a matter of some (extra?) software. What's physically missing is the actual LTE modem, and there's a dummy card in the mini-PCI slot right now.
But that's not why it's not possible to turn the current device into GSM; as noted in this thread before, there's a lot of other things that'd need to be there, and just 'cause the 6600 is GSM-capable doesn't mean it's a simple, software-only modification. Even if it were, good luck getting the customized baseband software from QCT for it.

SPH-L720 UICC Release

SPH-L720 UICC release or GSM unlock. I am not asking for the code....... but if I could get some insight to how this phone OS works.
Flashing ROM just changes the OS but the core phone setting remain the same. So what keeps those settings?
the UICC unlock is implemented OTA by a special PRL file that is pushed to the IMEI/MEID number (I think, I have not seen anything that indicates that the file is pushed based on the ICCID or whatever it is called number, you seem to be able to do this feature with any sim in there, as long as sprint released the prl file to be pushed to your phone.)
It is implemented deep in the BP firmware like the sim lock code and simply flashing modem images or messing with the RIL files will not work to my knowledge. I have only seen one developer so far in my poking around who seems to have been able to figure out a way to UICC unlock just the S4 entirely independent from sprint. Unfortunately he has this solution implemented in a closed source windows application and I didn't see much discussion from him as to how he did it. I tried contacting him on my own with no response currently, I am currently looking into a UICC unlock method for moto x but I think that more universal method for doing the UICC unlock may be possible, we just gotta look into all the information about how sprint implements this. Sprint and their MVDO resellers are the only ones to do this to my knowledge, they seem to pretty much exclusively use the UICC card for carrier locking the device, they implement EVERYTHING else off NV items from what I've seen. That's sprint for you though, just about everything about their CDMA/EV-Do/wimax/LTE implementation is ass backwards. (yeah i am a bit bitter about wimax seeing as how they sold me a 4g wimax device and then had a press release that they would switch to LTE for 4g coverage like literally a week or two after they sold me the wimax device. Thanks a lot sprint for selling me a handset that you knew you wouldn't support properly. Now I get great 4g LTE coverage through your network on VIRGIN MOBILE for half the price)

Quick guide to get Sprint 816(CHL) working with non Sprint SIMS. Not for GSM SIMS!

A heads up while i cook up a guide. THIS ONLY FOR CDMA TYPE SIMS NOT GSM SIMS SORRY.
So i got an EBAY offer for HTC 816 Sprint New in box at 65 dollars, i foolishly bought 2 thinking they accept GSM SIMS but it is only CDMA type sims, anyhow, i got one working on a non Sprint Carrier (not US) and after all th ehasslem wanted to share to see if it helps someone as well).
- Basically you need to be S-OFF (Sunshine.apk)
- Install HTC Drivers and HTCDiagnositcs Drivers (google them and how to install on device manager).
- Place the phone on Diagnostic mode ##3424#
- Select DM Mode ON
- It will ask for an MSL Code (you can get this from sprint or if they hassle and make it hard you like they did me, just get MSL reader from google play *must have root for that*)
- Select Serial Port ON and again place MSL Code.
After that, you must install the FDS program to change the the signal from NV to RUIM (this makes it so it can accept non Sprint SIM) *i suggest you google FDS and how to change configuration. It is free on google they trail version does the job.
- Check what COMM port the cellphone is comming under in device manager once all drivers including Diag mode drivers have been installed. It is usually Comm11 or Comm12.
- Once that is done, in FDS Main screen check ADD COMM PORT and add the comm you see your phone under device manager.
-After that hit connect/read and all you device info should appear.
-Once all is read go to PROGRAMMING TAB and there hit CONFIG and then READ. All you device info should reappear if all is well installed.
- On the very top tab you should see "NV", on that tab change it to "RUIM" or "RUIM PREFERRED".
- Hit WRITE at the bottom.
Once that is done, go back to your phone and DM MODE OFF and SERIAL MODE OFF or you screen will not turn off automaticly.
*PROFIT*
After all this, i am able to use my local CDMA carrier and thier LTE SIM just fine. THis phone does not have the 1900mhz LTE frequency they use but thier 3G is very good and stable.
If you are just like me that bought two of these sons of Bit*** thinking they are GSM, at leat you can use them n other CDMA netwoks with thier cdma sims Currently using mine on TRICOM CDMA network of Dominican Republic
Hope this helps someone in the mean time.
I can't seem to find that FDS Program you mention, can you link me please
So I've obtained dfs an did this, will do again an double check, but not sure yet if it will work. Going to try to swap to version an or straight talk, as they the only working carriers in my area. Will report any progress. But much acquire Sims first. If anyone has achieved this, could you confirm your success?
Op, Please help with the link to download the FDS program.
waiting in anticipation
