Well it looks like T-Mobile will be getting a call from me today for a return. For absolutely no reason my rear speaker decided it no longer wants to work. Which means no ringer. I will admit I'm normally rough on phones and I know to get insurance when I got this one I didn't. How ever since this is clearly a hardware failure over the phone being abused I should have no problem. Just makes it a pain. I guess I can use the Fuze for a few days or just have no ringer till the new one comes in.
Ugh now the job of returning it back to stock form,LOL
i got mine early from walmart and the speaker died the next day. luckily was able to go back and get their last one.
Well since I had gone through WireFly I had to go through them for a replacement. That made it a bit rough but with a bit of *****ing I was able to get a reasonable deal with getting the replacement shipped out. They wanted the phone to be shipped to them for inspection first and then ship a new phone all the while I would be without service. Or I could have one shipped one day air if I payed for the phone again plus a 250 shipping guaranty and they would give me the 250 back when they received the old phone and keep the 99. What?!?!?!?!? I'm not buying the phone twice! I quick talking to and I get them to do 99 shipping guaranty and recredit once the old phone is returned.
i also had this problem this weekend. i had my phone for two weeks and the loud speaker just gave out for no reason. my phone performed like a charm thought i was one of the lucky ones with no lags or freezes ever! even after i installed quite a few apps. had to go to local tmobile store luckily they had them in stock but had to pay again for the phone while they reimbursed me for the first one. just takes about three days to see it back in my bank account. kinda sucks but im hoping this issue doesnt come back again. is this happening alot from other users?
My replacement hasn't had the same issue. KNOCK ON WOOD,lol.
i had the same prob after i did the update...this might sound a lil crazy but all i had to do was push the reset button under the battery cover
god wish i would of tried that before taking it back. i havent done the upgrade to rom 2.13 just yet kinda waiting it out. also, would that be considered a hard reset?

Pushing that tiny (red or yellow) button under the battery cover is just one of the ways to do a soft reset. Doing a hard reset would wipe the device completely and return it to the most recent "stock" state (last time a ROM was placed on the phone, stock or custom)....and that takes different steps than a soft-reset
Ya well that wasn't my issue. I did soft and hard resets. New ROM, old ROM, stock ROM. Nothing did the trick. Also when you smack the phone and you get sound then a second later it stops for good is a pretty good indication that it's hardware.
Mine went out all of the sudden too. It was out, then it worked again, then went out again. I took mine into T Mobile and my dude there checked it out and determined it, in fact, didn't work. They were out of stock so they ordered me one... Didn't have to pay a dime. Got it in 3 days. I had to live without a speaker for 3 days but it wasn't too bad.

So my voicecommand button is stuck, it won't come out and it is just stuck IN the unit.
any suggestions?
I don't think it's doing anything on the phone, because it's not activating the voice command, but it's stuck inside the unit.
help.
I had the same thing happen after dropping my phone. I tried prying it out, but that only made it worse. I would say if you are brave enough and don't mind chancing voiding your warranty to open her up.
but i didn't drop my phone, it just is stuck in there. ugh, don't want to make another trip to the repair place. i am worried they'll give me a refurbished phone.
thanks any way.
Same happened to mine. I took it to Verizon and they sent me a refurb. as they don't work on them. I wasn't thrilled at first but it looked brand new.
same happened to me, I couldn't get it out, I didn't drop mine, but I pushed the button in one time and heard a small crunch. The only thing I could do was take it back.
I've had a lot of problems with this device and buttons, I've had two buttons stick in like described and my "End" button has lost its shinny coating. I am on my third device now, fourth if you count the one that was defective on arrival and fifth if you count the first one in the store that was doa as well.
I had the same issue with two Sprint Moguls. Took both back to the store within a week of having each one because of the voice command button getting lodged in the phone and then the phone wouldn't sync. God love Sprint's ERP! If you have the insurance take it back and they will tell you at the store if you will get a new or refurb. Chances are you will get a new one which means new everything. I have three boxes of brand new mogul stuff in the closet and got three 512mb memory cards. lol

Is it worth re-flashing to the original Verizon firmwares if returning it for a stuck button? Or would they not notice since it is a hardware thing?

This is why I sent mine in, and yes, reflash. It is a good idea if you can. Plus you will get more comfortable moving around between roms and radios.
I think my speaker is defective. I made sure silent mode was not on and I turned volume up on everything. I've tested ringtone, speakerphone, and Avatar. No sound at all!!! I tried a soft reset. That did nothing. Pretty sure speaker is DOA. Is there anything else I can try?
Try a Factory Reset. Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset
Or go to a corp Tmo store and tell them to "Take this #@$% back and give me another one" . No but why waste your time. There is already known issues with the phone im sure that Tmo will be more then happy to swap them out.... but before you leave the store TEST IT!
umm yeah just return it..
Try a reset. If it's still not working it's broken obviously. The speaker has great sound quality compared to a lot of others..
I say even if it does work after the reset, return it. What would you do if it worked for 14 days and then died again? Pay the insurance for a new one?
Speaker is definitely broken. I bought it on Ebay, and not through T-Mobile unfortunately. Don't think they will swap it out in the store. I did buy it brand new. I just had the misfortune of getting a defective phone. Everything else works great. I actually had Avatar playing. I took the battery cover off and tapped the speaker with my finger and it all of a sudden started working for a few seconds. Seems to be some sort of short. Just my luck

As long as there is no water damage it's obviously still under warranty, and they should swap it out. Not exactly sure how that would work out with all phones being under the remorse period though (they quickly directed me back to where I bought it for an exchange).
Is there a possibility of me walking into a T-Mo store and getting it swapped out even though I didn't buy it from them? The guy shipped me a brand new factory sealed phone. It wasn't like I bought it used from him. I don't really use the external speaker often at all. My phone is ALWAYS on silent mode and I very rarely watch videos or listen to music. BUT.... It still would be nice to have if I need it.

You'd need a receipt at the very least if it wasn't bought on your account.
I contacted Samsung and they are going to fix it for free. Thank god for mfg. warranty. I don't really have a problem sending this out and waiting a couple weeks for it to come back. Still got my Nexus One
Awesome to hear, and kudos to Samsung.
I think this is worth a mention. I shipped my phone to Samsung last Tuesday. They received it on Friday. I was shocked when they e-mailed me this afternoon to tell me that they have already replaced the part and shipped it back to me today! I think it's great that they took care of this so quickly. I've had some very bad experiences with some other companies when it comes to warranty (no names mentioned). This is by far the best experience I've had. I probably should wait until I receive the phone and make sure the speaker is working before I post this. But they have kept me well informed. They gave me their diagnosis of the problem and told me that they replaced the entire part. I'm very happy with Samsung thus far!
.
I have bought a slide off ebay and tmobile has replaced 2 of them already. Not sure if samsung is the same was as HTC but ya if all else fails try that out
knock on in
just knock like to the doors on back housing. i will work again. have the same issue with mine. vibrant built quality is poor.

My girl has the slide, I told her to just wait for vibrant lol. That thing is acting up all the time, she's on her third one. Always 3g issues, texts wont send, etc. I've had that before, but its all behind now with the vibrant lol. Not to mention it is way faster.

That should not be a solution at all after paying $200 - $500 on a device you should have all parts working. "Knocking" on it is ridiculous.
The vibrant is not the highest build quality but I certainly wouldn't call it poor. Defects happen all the time every company has defects. Samsung replaced it for him. All is well.
Well considering price I think its poor. For example volume button is also loose it rattles all the time, and I would prefer they make it from metal but then it wouldn't be so light. Otherwise its a great phone.can't wait for froyo.

the phone isn't perfect and everyone knows that. some are manufactured badly, no different than any other phone company on the planet. That's why we have the warranty. It's a year both on the phone and the battery. Note the latter.
I've actually been pleased with the build quality... to each their own. I can't think of another phone I owned and thought, Wow, this is so much better built than my Vibrant. Ha
Dunno if this is a common occurrence, I havent seen anyone mention anything similar to this not that its an amazingly unique and spectacular problem, but I just didnt think I would be experiencing this while only having the phone for less than 5 days. First of all, I believe this phone was a return from the store that I bought it from, but I couldnt tell until today when I figured out what was actually supposed to come in the box. Besides that, all of a sudden today it died on me and I didnt think it was the battery since it had 40% left the last time I saw it. Shrugged it off until I plugged it in, at which point it didnt turn on so I decided to pop out the battery and stick it back in and I had a bit of a sigh of relief.
Its been a while since Ive actually had a phone worth caring for, is this something I should return it for and get a new one while I still can? Even if its not a huge problem now, does it have the potential to get worse and worse? *sigh* out of all of the phones Ive had, Ive liked this the most since it was problem free.
I've never had to do this.. But hard freezes are possible.
But if it happens a lot, it might be a doa.. Either way, in most countries you have 10 working days at least for DOA, which allows you to return and get your money back or new unit. Given the complaints about GPS though, it is possible they have tried to resell some returned units as "brand new"
Whats a hard freeze? Its only happened once, but then I dont know when the next time it may happen. My phone has a way of turning off in my pocket multiple times a day due to the case that I use for it, which Im probably going to stop using once I find a suitable pouch. I dont know, maybe that had an effect on it for some ridiculous reason? It mighta turned off and just not turned back on?
Actually..... Come to notice it right now, I cant even turn the phone off without going through the unlock pattern. So, does that mean my phones been intermittently shutting down on its own or something? Ffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu**********************
My phone did this a few times. I had to re-install battery to get it going again. It happened on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th day,...but hasn't happened for about 1 week now. 2 reasons it may have stopped:
1) I got a new battery. My friend was going to return his SGS because of multiple problems, and swapped me batteries before returning it.
2) Did the firmware update (Bell Mobility - canada)
If i were you, i would exchange it for a new one. You don't want to sleep in on an important appointment because your phone turned itself off in the middle of the night! You are paying big bucks for this phone, and deserve a phone that works great.
Has anyone had any problems with their refurbished EVOs? So far I've had 4 in the last week and a half, and I have to go back again tomorrow for what I'm going to assume will be my 5th. The power button on my EVO broke, they sent me a refurb. That one had a broken charging port when I got it, another refurb. That one did nothing but a constant boot loop, another refurb. This one came to me with a blown earpiece speaker and an overheating problem that causes the phone to reboot.
I'm sick of spending my family dinner time every day at the Sprint store. Can I be the only one who is having these problems? It seems to me that whoever refurbishes these phones for Sprint has absolutely no quality control department whatsoever. Another (what I consider to be huge) problem is that at one point I was waiting 3 days because the refurb EVOs were on back-order. During that time I had to steal the extra phone on my account back from my mom.
I guess I really can't do much about any of this, but I did write a letter in the hopes that someone will give a damn about just how horrible these refurbished phones are when they reach the consumer. I don't have high hopes though.
It reminds me of the time I drove from Sprint store to Sprint store trying to find a replacement Treo years ago. I hit 5 different stores before I finally got one that wasn't a damaged refurb.
That's the end of my rant. If you're bored enough to have read this far... well, that sucks.
I had my launch day Evo replaced due to the broken power button issue with a refurbished unit. It has worked flawlessly since I got it about 3 weeks ago. It is hardware version 0004.
I had a similar problem to yours. The 3g radio went out on my 31 day old evo, back when i got mine on launch day. Even though I was 1 day over the 30 day exchange policy, they refused to give me a new one. I went through 6 refurbs before they finally decided to give me a new one. Each one was ridiculously bad. One wouldn't turn on. One had a bad charging and hdmi port. One had a whole section of the screen that didn't work. And the worst one, when I got it out of the box, the screen was literally in two pieces. The entire glass part was not glued to the actual phone. I immediately took it back to the store that ordered it for me, and they refused to replace it, saying that I was the one who broke it, even though I didn't even activate it yet. I had to fight with Account Services and customer support for over 2 weeks to get them to finally get me a new one. Everyone I talked to ASSURED me their refurbs were "completely normal" and "rebuilt to factory specs". I didn't know factory specs included the phone coming in two pieces.
On a side note, my girlfriend went through the same thing with Verizon with her old phone last year. It was a touch screen phone, she went through 5 refurbs until they decided to get here a new one. Same thing, every one was so bad. Three of them, the touch screen didnt work at all. One the vibrate didn't work. One would not connect to the internet. And they said the same thing, "all our refurbs are completely tested to work just like a new unit". Yeah right.
That is pretty interesting, pretty crappy of Sprint to do that to you.
However, from my experiences they have some sort of a 3 refurb rule, or it may be 4 and then they are supposed to give you a new phone. I am not sure that this is still a policy but I know I have fallen back on it a few times. Do some digging and see if you can confirm that it still is or bring it up to them at the store. If they **** you around call retention and let them know your fed up and I am more than positive they will take care of you.
Went through 2 myself in the past two weeks and when the third one came in the same way, the rep game me a NIB 004. Guess it all depends on who you speak with and how their day is going! The issue on all of these was the 'sunspot', as I call it. Had my first evo screen replaced 4 months in last year for the same thing. Good Luck!
i just got a refurb last week. i waited over a week cause they were on back order. first thing i did was root it and load cm7 on it. no problems so far.
when i had to get a refurbed moment last year it was a different story though.
My update... Sprint replaced the blown speaker. Had to go back again today because the phone kept overheating and rebooting. A nice technician named Sandi gave me a new EVO. It came with gingerbread, so no root for me. But I am so glad to be through with the broken refurbs. If I had gotten one more broken phone I think I would have had to ditch Sprint. I'm honestly very relieved.

Anyone having any problem getting refurb replacements? Backordered wise?
Seems to me like you would have saved yourself a lot of headaches if you just checked the phone before you left the store. Everytime I get a phone from Sprint, I go sit in my car for a few minutes and make sure everything is working. It's better than driving all the way home and realizing my phone is broken later. Plus if you come back in right after they give you the phone, and show them the problem, they wont be able to say that it's something you did.

I have phantom headphones in CM7.
This just came out of nowhere. Everything worked fine an hour ago.
All of a sudden the headphones icon is blinking. The phone thinks it has headphones connected, so it's blocking sound to the phone speaker. But there are no actual headphones involved.
Restarting didn't stop it.
I didn't make any system changes today. There's nothing physically in the headphone plug.
But my phone is suddenly useless as a phone because it thinks headphones are being plugged in and out every second.
Anyone got any idea what the hell is going on?
I reflashed CM and the problem is still there.
I reflashed stock 2.2.1 and the problem is still there. So it's definitely an out of nowhere hardware issue.
And this phone is a warranty replacement that I just got 3 days ago. Awesome.
Does HTC have ANYONE actually doing quality control?
And now T Mobile is sending me yet another refurbished phone. So I get to spend another night reloading all my stuff and tweaking settings. [sarcasm] Awesome. [/sarcasm]

that happened to me too and i just cleaned out the jack and rebootet and bingo. dust and gunk get in there and give you hell. and ive heard bad things about refurbished phones but ive never been able to tell the difference between that and a new one with ones ive had. it probly depends on the place it was its refurbed at.

Can you give me more details on how you cleaned it out?
I've picked at it with a tiny screw driver, put a headphone plug in it and spun it around, and hit it with compressed air.
Nothing seems to make the problem go away. Did you have some kind of awesome technique?
And T-Mobile is losing major credibility with me over this issue. I just bought the phone at the end of August. This is already my 2nd bad one. The T-Mobile guy on the phone told me there would be processing charges for BOTH phones on my next bill after the guy in the store who processed the exchanges specifically told me there would be no cost. And now I'm apparently waiting until November 16th to get the 2nd replacement after the guy in the store told me I'd get it today (next business day) and that's after it took this broken one a week to get to me after the guy in the store told me I'd have it the next day the first time.
When I got to the supervisor at T-Mobile she made it 10 times worse by trying to up sell me the warranty and exchange program saying that's the only way she could have this fixed by tomorrow.
I'm like "It was supposed to get fixed by today for no fees or charges according to the guy who processed the exchange. Now you're telling me you've added fees after the point of sale? And now you want me to agree to another $15 a month so you can get this fixed tomorrow? It was supposed to get fixed TODAY for no fees! I just bought the phone 2 months ago and I'm already waiting on a 3rd model due to the extreme lack of quality control on these POS's. Now you want me to spend more money? Are you high?"
i know!! they tried that crap with me and i said im not waiting a week for your f*** up and walked out. then called htc and they took care of everything because im still under warranty. dont deal with money hungry salesman holding phones hostage for $15 a month.
but i used the same technique as you except i put rubbing alchohol on the swab to clean the contact better. *dont use a jack ass amount of alcohol though*

Well that didn't work. I'm sure there's a short in the electrical system. The battery drains like water through a colander ever since this problem showed up.
But I think the short is internal and not right at the plug. (Which is odd because if I plug in a headset it works fine. I just don't want to carry a headset with me wherever I go.)
The best solution I've found so far is just to turn off the "Display headset icon" in the cyanogen settings so I don't have to look at the damned think blinking, then just use my phone as a text only device until the new one comes on Thursday.
yeah but it sucks that your battery is draining still..but im sure you can tough it out till tomorow

It's torture!
Absolute torture! The CIA should realize they don't have to water board terrorists because of this. They can just take away half the functionality of their smart phones!
I mean it! I'll talk! I'll say whatever they want me to say! Just make my phone work!
Or...send me another borked one. I'm good with that too because I'll trade it as an even exchange for a 4G Slide, give it to my wife, and upgrade her account with a Sensation that I will take.
I think the thing that annoys me is that the one that just broke has the good emmc chip and the good screen. But this random stupid problem. Now I have to play the "Do you get what you paid for or do you get garbage parts" lottery again. And even if I get the good parts I can never rely on the device again because it's reputation is killed with me.
Update: And i came in 50/50 in the new phone lottery. Bad screen but good chip.
