Stock after a 2.1 Rom - Hero CDMA General

Just a real easy question regarding 2.1 roms and my Hero. Say I need to go to stock for warranty work, would I be able to use say RUU or a Nandroid backup to go back to Stock?
I can't find a easy Yes/No answer and have used RUU but need to use the workaround to recover from the 110 Error that is posted here. Really want to try 2.1 but don't want to do something irreversable to my phone in case I need it worked on.
Thanks in advance!

i also been asking this question nobody seems to give a clear answer...am on my 30 day trial with hero but just in case i decide not to keep the hero how do i go back to stock and unroot...i didnt do a nandroid after rooting just have the backuprecovery.img file...????so do we just run the ruu and thats it are phone is back to stock and unrooted????????

yes 10chars

regaw u are wise guy from wath a read on the forum..
i seen that theres pple having error 110 trying to go back to stock am afraid i might bump into this error when i run the ruu to go back to stock i have decided to return my hero to bestbuy after 3 weeks...wath are the steps i should take to avoid these error 110????????????
i know theres a sprint hero ruu 1.56 at geekfor me from fresh is that the right one??????

Search the forum for Error 110 and there's a thread that has a 100% fix to it, it worked for me. I would need to fastboot oem boot to get my phone back on after a 110 error but works perfectly fine now.
And always always always nandroid backup, I made sure to do it as soon as my phone was rooted and after I get things installed and set up the way I like...

Wiseguy?
Thank you
anyways, there is a way to resolve this error if you get it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654119
Doesn't mean I say go for it, just saying that if you get that error, that will most likely fix it.
and yes the 1.56 ruu is on geekfor.me

if you want to flash the new recovery and reverted back to the stock ruu then u have to re-root using the same method you used to root in the first place. if you already have root then just flash the 1.6.2 recovery with the same method you used to flash 1.5.2 since from what i've read you've already done that before. if this is beyond your comfort zone you might want to stop messing with roms all together.

Dude go read everything u are asking for is on here ie. Fix for ruu problem, 1.6.2 release logs..... u call regaw a wiseguy i call u a lazy guy who cant find simple information. If ure gonna reply crying just dont, man up and read or leave your phone stock.

I always nandroid back to 1.5, or flash a 1.5 ROM before I RUU

if you updated to a custom Rom, and needed to get it back to stock for warranty issues. all you'd have to do is run the proper ruu, and you'd be set

tanx for the advice guys just ran the ruu and got the error110
ill have digg up and find the solutions on the forum tanx guys

Look in my sig to a link for the OTA Cupcake build. You can apply this directly to RC29 to upgrade to CRB43.
As for rooting... I posted a couple of links for you in another thread, IIRC. Just look over those threads...I know exactly what you're thinking. Before the G1, I had an Excalibur and I could flash that thing blindfolded. Not to mention editing the registry and all the other hacks... I was used to it.
It took me about 1 week to understand enough about the G1 to be ready to root it. Obviously, not rushing into anything is a good idea considering you can totally screw your phone up if you do something blatantly wrong. But you'll realize that bricking your phone is actually fairly difficult once you realize what it takes to do so.
Anyway, once you read through the directions and follow them to a T, you'll quickly understand the process and can be more confident. Follow the link below... I found it to be the best guide to Rooting, hands down. However, to make it even easier, download the Cyanogen Recovery, Radio, Haykuro SPL (if you have the PVT board, which you probably do...otherwise just the HardSPL), and new ROM separately and just copy them onto your SD card before you start the process. That way all you'll really do from the guide is run one option from the Root app, which is "Protect your root". Then you can just flash those individual files yourself and be done with it in a matter of 10 minutes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533731
Once you've read the link and other information, and gathered the three files I mentioned, post any questions here and we'll help you get rooted. I promise you won't regret it.
Hey man I feel you on that. I was nervous to root my G1 because I cam from WM and it was like bing bang boom and your done. I waited about a week or so to finally do it but once its done you wont regret it. And if you are REALLY scared to do it this way you can try the 1 click root, just find the guide for it on here.
I jumped right in with no doubt coming from a wm phone, figured I took the chance and put linux on my computer and never looked back, so I was thrilled to have it on my phone<whole reason of getting the g1> I wanted to see what this bad boy could do right away
@ uansari1
will this cupcake update if t mobile does decide to update it

Yes... all you have to do to downgrade to RC29 is have dreamimg.nbh on the root of your SD card, enter bootloader and flash it.
Also, yes after installing the file I linked you to, you will receive subsequent updates over the air.
Edit: You need to shrink the font on your sig... it's huge!

use the 1 click method, it is cake, it will take like 30 min, and the reason it takes so long is because you are waiting for it to load, I have done 2 of my friends this way. I rooted mine the old fashion long way, but i am glad i did because now i know more about it.

What to do, what to do....

Hey guys,
I have really been reading and learning alot since rooting my phone and flashing the MoDaCo rom. Im tempted to go back to RUU get the update and try to root again but I think its smarter for me to just wait on a updated MoDaCo ROM with the update in it. But I have a couple questions I hope someone can answer just in general.
1. Would going back to RUU to get the update, re-rooting and re-flashing MoDaCo hurt my app2SD that is already set up? Meaning I would have to re format the SD and apply all my apps back after im done.
2. Is it possible to go back to RUU, get the update, re-root and re-flash the MoDaCo ROM and not have any issues afterwards, and still have the update?
3. Whats the major benefit of updating at all. I mean after root and MoDaCo ROM, im having no issues with my phone whatsoever. But seems like everyone is updating so am I missing something key that my hero needs to have?
Thanks in advance for any answers. Im loving this android stuff. I can see myself learning alot from all of you.

This is basically the same situation I am in. I reflashed MoDaCo not realizing that it resets the software version back to 1.29.651.1, so there's really no point to updating in the first place if you want to run the Current 1.1 MoDaCo ROM, which also breaks the Voicemail app. If I were you, or if I hadn't already gone through the process, I'd just wait for the updated MoDaCo ROM that includes the Sprint Maint Rel update. I think he said he'd probably have it ready by the weekend or Monday (11/23). Right now I'm not sure if I'll keep what I have for a few days until the patched ROM is ready, or restore the nandroid backup I made right after applying the Sprint upgrade and rooting, or go back to stock again and not apply the update and reinstall MoDaCo 1.1.

What do you mean break the voicemail app? I don't think I am having any issues with my voicemail. Can you tell me what that is you are referring to?
BTW, if you do decide to nandroid and root, will you just not flash a new ROM or use the stock ROM instead?? My main reason for using MoDaCo's ROM was for app2SD, i definately don't want to go back to apps on the internal memory now.

Loaner Legend

I just send my SGS in for repairs and got a HTC legend as a loaner...
I read through some of the threads but going to a new phone its hard to find how the process of putting roms are done on it...
Is it like this SGS where i can put a custom rom and when im about to send the phone back i can restore to stock? I'd like to try froyo but i'd also like to be able to go back to stock so they can take it back
Froyo is now available for Legend with an update, no need for root to try out Android 2.2.

Firmware version 2.1-update1
Thats 2.1 isn't it? Software update "no updates available"
I just wanted to try some of the custom roms here to make things speedy and comfortable.. but i wanted to make sure i could undo it before sending it back.
Oh okay, I've got the update on my Legend though...
I have been trying out some custom Froyo roms, I then went back to stock 2.1 RUU when the phone needed a repair thru waranty, and then updated to the original 2.2 update. So it is possible to go back and unroot it, yes. But I'm not sure what the chances are that you won't be able to unroot. Look around in this forum, im sure there is alot of discussions about unrooting...

I have a found a guide on unrooting...
I'm just confused on many steps -- I've come from SGS which is pretty easy to do everything on...
I need to downgrade, root, upgrade, mess about and if i want to send back. downgrade again, unroot then upgrade to 2.2?
My question is, all this is possible right? unrooting in the end gives you stock rom + no root...
So what I'm wondering, where do i find the stock rom? (this is a bell phone)
Once i find stock rom everything else should be findable from what i've read..
I just need to know how to hold my stock rom right now so when i upgrade i don't lose it and when i send it back i can restore it...
Will this work through CWR?
Stock ROMs for Legend can be found on the shipped-roms website. The stock one you need for Bell can be found here:

Just got Samsung Vibrant!! How do I update to 2.2 Stock? Help please.

Hello.
I just got this phone, and it is UNLOCKED and stock 2.1 on it.
I would like to update to the official 2.2 and keep the unlocked, can someone point me to the right direction and tell me how that will be done?
I heard the 2.2 is not out officially, but it is leaked, so that leaked version is the full 2.2 stock or something missing?
I heard something about rooting, flashing, but I am not sure what that means as I just got this phone.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

root the phone 1st then download rom manager then pick a rom eugene's , sombionix, or master are all good read up on them and then pick one
down load it on to your computer then load into the internal sd card then reboot in to recovery or through clockwork (rom manager) and load it up.. If you can't follow read up on the sticky's in this forum it explains way better.........
Look in here for all your needs and tools that you'll want to get started on getting Root, ClockworkMod Recovery and a Custom Rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111
Look in here for all the different Roms. (ie Android 2.1 roms or Android 2.2 roms)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=711
Just like oka1 said, you need to root your device first. Then get rom manager from the market and install clockworkmod recovery through it. When your done with that download any rom you want and put it on your Internal Memory (Phone Storage) on the root of it. Then flash through Clockworkmod. Hope its enough. ;D
Words are sounding very complicated, but I am sure its not just need to learn how to do the steps....
Also the 2.2 will fix GPS, and have Full Flash browser right?
Can I use this to root? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739300
Also if I brick this phone as I am new at it, can it be recovered?
And where do I find the stock 2.2, please?
Thanks.
Look in the development forum or use search. It's all there, and trivial to find.
My signature should teach you everything you need.
for the rom, go to the development section... There is a sticky called the bible. It has everything.
I personally would flash nero v3 (not the beta 3). Most on here agree it's amazing.
Also, Vibrant's are REALLY hard to brick... Worst case you can use odin to get back to stock 2.1. Thid is also covered in my signature.
Now, with all that said... Samsung promised froyo by year end. You may want to wait a few days (I'd still take nero over an ota, just giving you all the information. They may not deliver)

I would just leave it factory cause I see this ending in a soft brick and you freaking otu thinking you ruined your phone when you didnt
Learn how to use Odin FIRST, then learn how to root, then learn how to flash, all of this is covered somewhere in this forum.....search a little and you'll be flashing in no time.

I'd love to help.
Canada just got the official 2.2 Froyo update. Can't you just use that download?
Thank you for your replies, I am reading the guides now and hopefully everything works out.
Can someone please tell me does 2.2 have full flash browser?

Noob questions.

Hi, so I've been reading the forums for a while, trying to figure out how to root my DHD correctly, as well as installing a custom ROM..
I have Software Number 1.37.771.3
I assume this does not need to be downgraded, but just want assurance. Alll the downgrades need to be from 1.72.XXX.X
What is the most popular custom ROM to install?
What does flashing new radios do? And are they necessary?
What does S-Off do?
How will I be able to install my stock ROM back once I install a custom rom?
I know some of these question can be found by searching, but some parts are not clear to me.
Thanks.
Hiya, 1.37 does not need to be downgraded so you CAN root that.
The most popular roms I believe are either ARHD or rcmix hd (but it is down to personal preference, some roms give you things some others don't/can't)
Once you install a custom rom, sometimes you need to install a different radio to get better battery life, gps signal etc etc.
Radio s-off gives you the ability to install a custom Rom on Ur dhd, I'm not sure if its true but I think it is a MUST if you wanna install a Rom.
Eng s-off is needed to flash a radio, but you only have to have eng s-off if you wanna flash a radio.
You can just radio s-off to install a custom Rom and not have to have eng s-off to install a radio.
You can get back to stock by flashing the branded/unbranded ruu through your computer (its easier that way, I had trouble doing it through SD card last night, just run the exe. File through computer and follow the commands) , it will get rid of custom Rom, eng s-off, custom recovery and root all in one go, so all you need to do after is temp root and radio s-on, and you should be back to stock. Or you can do a nandroid backup (someone jump in cos not too clear on this point either)
If anyone wants to jump in and say if I got it wrong please do, but that's what I done last night.
Is your handset branded by any chance mate?
Cos what I done last night was flash the WWE unbranded Rom and now I'm unbranded, cos I used to be branded by vodafone, now all the vodafone crap and stuff has gone from mine.
Oh also you might wanna check before you start whether u can get your hands on a branded Rom cos if you have trouble with handset and need to send it back then your gonna wanna get it completely back to normal.
Anyway hope this helped and if you need anything there's lots of people on here that will help you as best they can.
Good luck ;-)

The most popular ROM is probably either LeeDroid HD, Android Revolution HD or CyanogenMod
Flashing a different radio is not usually required but can give you better performance.
S-off lets you install custom ROMs of your DHD, you cant flash a radio and Im pretty sure you cant flash a ROM without S-off.
The stock ROM (version 1.32.405.6) can be downloaded from CyanogenMods downloads page. Link
This might be useful too. Link
Also HTC Ace was the codename for the Desire HD so if you see HTC Ace anywhere its the right phone.
ARHD 3.5 has just been released.
This was exactly the thread I was looking for, I've been reading these forums for the last week trying to get my head around all the information. Im guessing once you understand all the procedures it starts coming a bit more naturally, doing my first flash tomorrow

Good luck mate, I did my first one last week, it was nerve wracking lol some people like me need a little more help and clarification from more knowledgeable members on here.
But we all in the same boat innit, just don't start too many threads on it cos you'll end up getting a warning like me, it was harsh but I'm gonna have to accept it looool anyways good luck and if u need any help just ask.
And make sure you follow all the steps to the point, cos you could end up with some unrectifiable problems ;-)

It depends what you wanna do, if you wanna unbrand your phone use the WWE ruu, if you wanna return Ur phone back to the way it was then use a official 3 branded Rom, and as you know if you want a particular custom Rom then just flash one of those.
I got my WWE ruu from xmoo's thread, it has a whole list of different ruu versions, so just pick the one you want but I suggest going for the 1.32 xx3 cos you can still root that version if you wanted to.
