Nexus Messages Deleting Itself - Nexus One General

And no i have the "Delete Old Messages" Unchecked.
It just randomly crashes and then deletes all my texts Also itll get a spell where i cant send messages until i reset the phone. Any ideas?
Its the ATT 3g version. Thanks

anyone know?

Known issue of sorts... It's happened to several people, myself included. The Messaging app will FC, and when you reopen it all threads have been deleted. I'm not sure what causes it, but I haven't had it happen again. Some have stated that they think it may be more likely to happen if you unchecked the delete old messages setting or if you allow message threads to get too large.

Your guess is as good as mine. If you REALLY need to minimize loss of text messages... you can check out the backup options in the Market.

Freezing in WinMo messaging

Anybody have this happen to them all the time?
When I exit a mesage, the message list will usually freeze for maybe 3-5 minutes
Very annoying.
Fix anywhere?
Anyone?
Can't say I've had this problem, sorrry.

yeah, that happens to me too--my best guess root-cause is that it's due to the fact that I have TONS of text messages that I've been keeping over the years.
I always notice that it's worse right after I've flashed my phone and restored my data. I think this is because it's re-threading my messages.
I don't have any fixes or work-arounds, but perhaps my theory might inspire one!

Yes, annoying. I delete the thread of messages I have with someone that I notice takes a while to close and then it's speedy again. This is a frustrating solution because you can't keep much of a history, but at least it speeds thigns up a bit.
I have the same problem, though it doesn't last for 3-5 minutes, thankfully. According to my MyPhone page, I have 1174 messages. This doesn't sound like very many to me.
I notice in Task Manager that SMS takes over 2 MB. Maybe this is part of the reason for the sluggishness?
Another (minor) annoyance is that, in the Windows SMS app (I don't use Touch Flow), when I tap "reply" to a text, the program will take time to thread the messages from that sender and then load the SIP (I use Swype currently). Next, the SIP goes away and I'm left with the cursor at the bottom of the screen in a blank area for my reply. I have to reactivate the SIP and wait for the screen to redraw again before I can begin typing. Seems like weird behavior.
I had this issue and identified it to the threader feature in 6.5 when you have large amounts of messages, just disable threader feature under settings menu and issue will go away..

or you can just use MyPhone to archive some messages... again, when you add or subtract a large amount of data from your sms database, your phone will take some time to re-thread all your messages.
Eventually, when all the messages are threaded, you won't experience the slow-down.
I think this is LESS about WinMo, and MORE due to the fact that we really, really need Snapdragon processors
Newest ROM fixes this problem. At least thus far! Yay.

What newest ROM are you referring to???
Well, the "new" rom from VZW. It's now official from VZW. http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=136&cid=1&mid=364&carrier=Verizon Wireless
has anyone tried this "new" rom from VZW?

[Q] Stuck "Sending.." GMAIL

I know there is already a thread on stuck sending text message, ive only had that happen to me twice and both times they turned grey after a few minutes and said "failed" I just hit resend and it works fine.
My issue is that emails, 5 times now have got stuck on sending and never time out.
Is there anyway to fix this quickly? The only thing I have got to work is unsyncing my account that I was sending it from and then resyncing it.
every time this has happened i was sending multiple files, and had an intermittent 3g connection.
If this is the same issue as the other thread feel free to move this post into that thread.

Excellent question, I have had this happen to me as well. Here is what I did to (I think) fix it:
Uninstall/delete the Gmail.apk from /system/app using Root Explorer or ADB. Next I pushed the stock Gmail.apk from a zip I had lying around and rebooted. Once the app is reinstalled I went to the market and updated it to the newest version, which ended up fixing the problem. I hope this helps, I know your pain

well i just updated gmail, i wish i hadnt deleted the sending email so i could see if it fixed it.
but i did try to send a couple more emails before updating and none of them would send. .. now they send fine.
before it would just happen randomly, so lets hope it was just a bug in the old gmail app.

Eh most likely it would have stopped them from sending anyway while it updated. Glad that fixed the problem, if the issue arises again feel free to post again in this thread.

Happens to me all the time as well. I just clear data and then it works again for a little while.

The solution is to exit out of gmail and it will send in a few seconds.

cmon toppy nursey, do you really think, that you got people in here restarting their phone, deleting storage, deleting syncs... etc and nobody tried to exit gmail and wait a few seconds...
Going into airplane mode was also one of the first things I tried it didnt help at all.
Well I can confirm that the problem still happens with the latest gmail. even if you can delete the email thats stuck sending... if you try to send another one it will get stuck as well. the quickest solution works for me is clear data and clear cache of the gmail app. If it happens again Im going to try to just clear cache and see if that works.
I will update this thread in the future if I find any more information out.

Actually when I first noticed the problem I read a lot around here and people were coming up with all sorts of complex solutions. I tried those as well, but often the simple solution is usually the most elegant. Instead of focusing in on the problem it is better to understand exactly what is going on that causes what you are seeing.
Yes, the simple solution is to just exit out of gmail and wait for gmail to execute its programming and send out your email. Constantly "checking" just exacerbates the problem.

This isn't a Gmail specific problem. It happens with Yahoo Mail and the stock email app that came with the Epic. I switched to Gmail to avoid this problem but it did not help. I also will have outgoing email send multiple times which us extremely annoying. This happens on 3g and wifi, so its not a connectivity issue.

Can you please elaborate on "understanding what exactly is going on" all you said was its executing programming.. to me it seems like its not doing anything, or its stuck in a loop.
Ive had emails stuck "sending..." for 48 hours before... so if waiting is the solution, I cant wait 2+ days to send an email.
I really hope you can explain whats happening, Im interested and it sounds like you know what you are talking about at a coding level.
clearing data in gmail and clearing data in google frameworks did it for me when I have sending problems.
Truth!

+1. I cleared data at it worked for me. It's been about a week since I originally had to "infinite sending" problem.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but had to have some leg surgery to keep some slow flesh eating bacteria at bay. I'm not a coder or even a programmer. What I do seem to do very well is looking at complex problems and coming up with simple solutions. You might consider me to be a systems analyst (aka a RN) so to speak.
Since we live in a logical world things happen for a reason. In the case of computers we can assume that every result is brought upon us by the action or inaction of a program. Thus the simple solution for this problem is to forget about it and check back with Gmail when we next need to use the app. It's not a fix per se, but an analysis of what is going on. Works every time for me.

Strangest issue I have ever seen....

Not even sure if this is XPlay specific. I have ONE contact, one friend that if I try to text message her my messaging program FC's. I even tried deleting her and physically entering her phone number, and it FC's. Every other contact or anything else I do, works fine. I tried clearing data for messaging, tried clearing data for contacts. My phone is stock and not rooted or anything at all. Anyone ever seen this?
Your phone is just looking out for you. Stay away from her!

She is a bit crazy lol, but a good friend.
I can't even imagine if it was my girlfriend that this problem was with. "Sorry sweetie I can't text you because my phone keeps crashing the text message app, but ONLY for you". That would go over real well!
That's odd.
Try using GoSMS and/or handcent sms and see if they get the same problem.
well I just made it worse...
I called her and had her text me, instead of a text coming through i get a force close message. Even better I think its jammed and trying to send it through so I'm getting the error over again every few minutes.
I think I'm gonna need to reset my phone
EDIT: it stopped after a bit. Also scrolling through my contacts I found another contact with the same issue.
EDIT #2: While typing Edit #1 I realized both are contacts that I text often. However recently I lowered my saves message limit from 100 to 50. I had manually deleted some threads including threads from these two people and they had over 100 messages. I went into messages and did a "delete all" and that cleared the issue.

"Unfortunately, messaging has stopped"

Is anyone else getting this message? How do I fix it?
It happens to me when wifi is being used. Turn off wifi and it works again. Im thinking about taking this phone back.
Lol i dont have that issue. Maybe you got rid of something that you shouldn't have.

It happens to me as well. When did this happen? I transferred my old mms/sms to the S4. That error pops up if the message contained picture messages. To get around it I downloaded go sms from the app store haven't had the error since
Try clearing your messaging app's data. (Settings > More > App Manager > All > Messaging > Clear Data) or make sure you didn't disable the messaging app.
Fix Permissions?
This happened to me when I transferred my messages over from my iphone. (had about 40k) and whenever a large amount of messages appear the system has a hard time processing it all. If that is the case with you, just restart you phone and it'll stop after 2-3 uses.

You restarted the phone each time the messaging app crashed? When did the app crash? When you first clicked on messaging or when you clicked on a contacts name to read the messages?

I retarded each time the messaging app crashed, and it crashed when i went back from reading the message. This is right after I transferred all the messages also.
Maybe there was an issue with the transfer of your messages from the iphone to the gs4.
No issue, just lots of messages. It worked fine after that.
After reading up on this a bit, I think I have isolated it as an issue with wifi. Whenever I turn my wifi off, it seems to be better.

I'm glad that works for you. I always leave my wifi off. So I know that's not the problem. The problem will also show up in airplane mode
I have no issues yet, I will continue to update this if this fix works. Unfortunately, Samsung chat was useless to me and was unable to resolve my issue.

Strange text messaging issue

I have an issue that only happens with 2 people I know, who both have t-mobile and Samsung phones (I have an s7 edge, person 1 has an s6 edge, person 2 has an s7). It seems that sometimes, and for no real reason I can tell, when i get messages, from either, it will go to the sms text message, or what appears to be a grouped mms msg. Again, even with friends who have the same phone, different carriers, I do not experience this issue.
I attached a screen shot.
I have searched, but not even really sure how to describe this issue other then show the picture.
It is driving me nuts, please help.
Same thing is happening to me. I can't figure it out.

I can not find any setting that shuts this off. I don't know if wiping out my messages will fix it but not sure I want to risk that just yet.
Frigginmike, I cleared messages and even data /cache for messages and it's still happening. I guess I'll have to live with it or perhaps just use another messages app. Strange

the worst part of it is, if i wait a few hours and reply to the "group looking" text, it just sends to me. its maddening. I wonder if its only the s7 or if this happened on any of the other samsung phones with tmobile.
Now that I'm back with another S7 edge, I'm having this same problem. Frustrating
