Need shift parts - Vent grill and battery cover - Shift General

I need the battery cover and the rear center fan grill for a shift so that i can make some repairs to mine but the only solution i can find at the moment is £80 for a whole new shell and im not sure if it has the grill in there either.

how hard is it to re-shell a shift? the dissasembly has no images anymore
Any ideas or spares sources i dont know of?
(forgot to say uk based but will buy from abroad)

I May Be Able To Help.
I have a dead Shift. The Shell is in great shape. What exactly are you needing?

What's wrong with your Shift. I'm interested in buy all shift or LCD screen.

Sounds verry interesting toprowguy you want to arrange a trade or paypal sumething?
I have an old charmer and p3600 gathering dust , erm, thoughts?...
i just need a new grill for the rear center vent and a new battery cover tbh,
but im tempted to put it in a new shell because of some minor paint flecking off
from the bezel around the screen, but the ones on ebay are a bit pricey for that
kind of 'less than essential' repair.
the rest is fine tho

now ive drpped it argh im cursed, to be fair about 3ft in the air on to a hard wood floor.
only a small crack on the casing above the camera everything else seems ok another reason to consider replacing the whole case

Looking At It More Closely
Looking at my Shift more closely I do see some scratches and chipping paint. The scratches are on the front between the LEDs and the screen. They are minor though and I'm willing to bet that if you put an InvisibleShield (or the like) on it, they would disappear. The chipped paint is around the plug and the USB slot. The rear center vent and the battery cover as in perfect shape. As far as the screen is concerned, I don't think it works anymore, but I can't say for certain because I'm not about to switch it out with my working Shift. Don't want to come close to killing this one too.
We can certainly work something out. I've sold the keyboard in these forums already, to a Flojo Premier. They can tell you I'm good on my word. As are they. PM me.

awesome ive pm'd you

Strip of Rubber on T Mobile Battery Cover

The small sliver of rubber that is stuck horizontally towards the bottom of the back of my Vario has fallen off.
I bought the device in the UK but am now out of there and the devices sold locally to me don't have this piece. Does anyone have details of a 'spares' company that could sell me this ridiculous 'part'? The stamp for the envelope will definitely be worth more than the piece of rubber but it's so handy and I want it back!
well, i would try calling the factory in taiwan, hah! (or making your own piece of rubber)
Yeah...mine fell of too...but I don't miss it at all, maybe that I will make my own peace of rubber sometime, but for now it does not bother me a single bit
if you live in atlanta i can give you mines i doubt anyone sells that piece, just buy the battery cover.
mine fell off too but I didn't really care. just get a black marker and color that part of the battery cover where the rubber used to be. it will look brand new again! lol
Egrips. check em out
Replacement battery covers cost $7 from HTC. Google them or search this site for contact numbers.
I'm just gonna search for a little piece of rubber and cut it to the correct size.
Then I'm gonna glue it to the battery cover of my Wizard. Only then I am sure it will never fall of again

I have a broken battery cover with the rubber part still on it. PM me your address and I'll post it to you.

Wizard Facia Housing

Hello, I have a Qtek 9100 and unfortunately I dropped it and scratched the front of the casing up pretty bad. The phone is still in perfect condition and not even a scratch on the back or the screen. I am looking for the front housing. I do not have any scratches on the rear housing, keyboard, or even the battery cover. I have looked on Ebay and the only thing that I have found is for around $100 (US). I do not want to pay that much for something that I can conceivably drop again. So my question is; is there anyone out there that knows where I can get a front housing? I would even buy the total housing to use as a backup but I do not want to spend an arm and a leg for it. I would greatly appreciate any feedback anyone has.
im looking for one myself.. i dropped my imate kjam a numerous amount of time...and the body has been scratched up rpetty bad
if theres a way to get it in canada, ottawa.. id really appreciate to find out..
thnx
How about vinyl sticker to put on top of the scratches? Like those offered by mytego.com?
you can see how it look like from this thread at howardforum

That's my phone in the post by username ToNg
Oh. That's slick the way the background and vinyl work as one.

crack phone case and case covers.

i though i would share my thoughts on this case cover that i just bought. cost less than 5 bucks shipped from hong kong shipped (sambo-store). got it in 8 days from the time i ordered it.
fit was nice, not loose and easy to clip on. i was a bit concerned when i bought this because of the cross bar. i though it would interfere with the soft keys but to my suprise it really didnt. i press the soft keys anyways with the nail on my thumb so its no bother. if you use just the flesh of your thumb, then it will interfere. there is another case cover that you can buy without the cross bar. i bought one of those too but havent got it yet. i bought the case cover without the cross bar from a california company (ebay), for less than 8 bucks shipped and w/ california taxes. right now im happy with the cover i got on know and if for some reason it brakes, i got a spare.
even though the ad didnt say it, the case has a rubber coating on it that makes it feel grippy. also, the case does not add a lot of bulk to the phone.
my phone, x1a silver, and does not have any cracks. i can see that this case, nicely fit, can protect the phone and maybe prevent cracks. i say this because the case covers the area prone to cracking. i can see how phones may crack near the area of the battery cover because of the way the plastic angles to a thin point. i can imagine this area getting caught on the fabric of the pants or coat pocket and maybe causing the cracks. also maybe it can protect the area by the stylus by the way it kind of adds additional support around the area. it though may not help if you kind of stress the area if you happen to reinsert your stylus in a wrong manner.
if you have cracks in your phone already and tired of shipping or dont want to ship your phone back for repairs, then this case would pretty much cover the cracks. either that, get your phone repaired and then try one of these cases.
as for durability, i read that these cases break easily. i can see some truth to it becasue just by feeling around the case, i can feel and see how the edge of the case could get caught on something and would tend to pull the top cover and snap the little flimsy clips that holds it to the phone.
as mentioned, i have an x1a silver and the black case really acents the phone nicely. also, if wanted a black x1 but for some reason or another you got a silver one, putting this black case on pretty much makes it look like a black x1. most of the silver is covered and the chrome trimming is what is mostly showing.
the picture below is the type of cover that i bought even though it was from that paticular vendor. i just use the photo because it mostly matches what my phone looks like with the black case on. heck for 5 bucks, what have i got to lose.
View attachment 165334
i have the same case.. but that case cracked relatively easy.. so i bought another one. it's the same kind but it's transparent. the material for the transparent ones are different in the sense that it's stronger and i must say it looks better too. it reveals a lot of the x1a's shine.

Replacing X1 Housing

New here but thought Id share my experience of completely replacing the housing for my 10 month old X1. It can be done - even by a non techy person like me!!
Basically the keyboard was worn where it rubbed duiring open / close movement, the cover over the camera lense was cracked and there was general wear and tear. Could have sent it back under warranty but it would have taken an age and they would have charged me for all but keyboard probably.
Instead I bough a complete housing for £22 from here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Original-x1-xperia-Housing-Cover-Case-Housing-UK-T6_W0QQitemZ390078842052QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneFascias_JN?hash=item5ad282c4c4&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14They say they are used but mine was immaculate. Apparrantly when someone returns a phone during the 14 day money back period the innards get removed and put in a new case ready for resale. This guy buys the old cases. A real bargain I think as others are priced in the £50+ bracket.
Second you will need to be near a computer when you do the deed. Instructional videos taking you through every stage can be found here
http://www.mygsmtube.com/category/Sonyericsson.html
You will also need to assemble some tools. You will allready have the special screwdriver needed for 2 of the screws in your phone (comes with your new case) but you will also need a small cross head watchamkers screw driver for all the rest. Additionaly I found that I used tweasers and a small pair of bull nose pliers. As I dont bite my nails lol, I managed to seperate the clip together casings using my thumbnail otherwise you will need a thin, stiff piece of plastic (they use what looks like a plectrum in vids) Finally and very importantly, you will need a workmat. Unlike on the video I discovered that things fall out of the phone when you take it apart and you definitely dont want them bouncing off a hard surface onto a floor never to be seen again!! I used a white towel for this.
Ok, I had to do mine twice before it was right so here are the reasons and I hope it means you will only have to go through it once!
1. When you take apart the back section of the phone buttons are likely to fall out / may not be present in new. Not sure which but found out camera button was missing only after I had completed reassembly!! No probs they just slot in and used one from the old case.
2. The little metal clips holding the battery cover in place can drop out. Watch out for these they are small and easily missed!
3. You have to pull apart a very small white electrical connection on the phone. Mine was very stubborn and in the end used the small bull nose pliers for better grip. It will come apart you just need to be firm and waggle it a bit!
4.When you take apart the front (screen) section of phone a small black rectangle of rubber falls out. Dont miss it as it keeps the optical joystick in place and gives it the push down springy effect. There is a similar shaped recess for it to fit in but I found that I had to make one side of it sticky in order for it to stay there during reassembley. After you finish assembling this bit check the joystick is properly in place and has that click feel - if not, that rubber pad is not right and you will need to re-do it.
5. Make sure you remove the speaker from the top part of the screen case (behind Sony Ericsson wording) from your old case and fit it in the new one. It just clips in and will come out with a little bit of gentle persausion and leverage. I didnt realise it was missing from my new case and panicked like mad when I couldnt hear anything on starting up!!
6. The most fiddely bit was attaching the ribon cable between the two parts. Take your time with this as you dont want to damage the connection by being too heavy handed. I discovered that the ribbon is longest when the phone is half closed/open. If you can keep it in that position you will have more ribbon to play with and it will be alot easier to lign the connection up.
Ok, the process isnt a walk in the park, I was nervous as hell doing mine (especially when it wasnt right the 1st time) but it wasnt half as bad as I thought so, it can be done....even by me lol!! and is well worth the effort - Good Luck
I have my case in a lil bad conditions and thought I would do the same as u did and change the case, but then I though I would wait a lil bit to get even worse, so that it'd be worth the hassle....
However since lately ma KeyBoard started going crazy, I decided to go with the video and open it to get some dust out....you won't believe it.....I got stuck at the very first step....can't remove the antenna cover, no matter what I do or use !!!
I replaced my housing to and i used this two movies on youtube. youre Instructional videos are removed by user so i wanted to post the youtube link. it is the same clip as yours i think.

I really need to clean up my keyboard, but it is so complicated to do that, that I'll whait until it stops responding and then I'll try. Some keys are not fully functioning good anymore (you have to press harder to get the symbol), which it turned out to be a common issue with X1's keyboard. There are some cracks in the case ofcourse.
So I suppose, sooner or later I'll follow your lead on this
There are infact 4 vids - 2 disassembly and 2 assembly. Iff you are like me you will need all 4 lol. They are still up on the site I linked to, you just need to scroll down the menu of vids at the bottom right to find the X1 vids. The advatage with this is thay are all in one place, but the original source is YouTube.
darkhalf520, I can believe it!! I almost gave up a couple of times. With the clip on bits, sometimes you need to be quite firm with them
Forgot to mention
Not sure if it was clear on original post, but the new housing came with a keyboard also - mention this as keyboard probs seem to be quite common.
Thanks man, I'm going to do this in about a year, Silver to Black son!!!
crank1... three posts only and I already love You man. thanks! I've just ordered black one for myself as well. this price is a bargain.

I have the same problem like you. the space-bar doesn't work so good any more. a friend of mine lost his whole keyboard. but i don't think you can clean it you have to replace youre keyboard. i replaced mine xperia case and still the you have to press really hard for the space. i think the keyboard ""dies"" but i'm not sure. does more people have this problem??
and sorry Crank1 i looked at the wrong vids, My mistake
is the ebay selling original or oem? coz i saw 100% ORIGINAL xperia x1 HOUSING
14 DAY STOCK ------- GRADE A -------
Grade A mean oem?
from my understanding, OEM means Original, those cases for the 22lbs are real, just used... if you see fascia some other place then its possible it could be one from some other maker, fascias dont always fit either

Yes thats right, the cases are genuine & come from phones returned by customers under the 14 day returns policy that some retailers have. The Grade A refers to the quality / condition. As I said the one I got was mint.
I found this on cnn.cn for 79.99USD, any feedback for the site anyone? Should i get the used one or the new one? Is the new one worth it? thank you
just got mine, as op stated - almost perfect condition. I'll swap it as soon as my little curious son will go for his nap.
in the package I've got full unbranded black housing, including keyboard.
[EDIT]
all done and I am sooo damn impressed. the black one looks better imho. the only problem I had, was that those two covers for screws next to camera were not included, so I had to paint my old ones black. after that I've used some clear nail top coat polish from my wife's drawer and it looks brand spanking new.
thanks again for the heads up crank1.
No Problem bronx. Great to hear that all went well.

I maked my xperia also black. it is like you said it looks better and the same color problem with the two covers. but i have a hard case so this new Black wouldnt be damaged or get scratches.
Just changed mine from silver to black. looks the nutts , wasnt to tricky if u take ur time
instructions
Btw if anybody needs them there are Sony Ericsson's full disassembly and reassembly instructions at http://rapidshare.com/files/155696508/Guide_Working_Instructions_Mechanical_X1i.pdf.html . I found them much more useful than the video.
Still not for the fainthearted though. Bits have to be unstuck and restuck (some form of EM resistant tape) and the instructions leave you still with small bits of plastic stuck to the covers at the end. And now my earpiece buzzes most alarmingly. But I do have a fully chromed X1!
Also, attached is Sony Ericsson's software for testing all the features of X1, so that you can check everything works properly after you reassemble.
For those who replaced their X1 housing - How long did it take for the whole process?
Thanks!

[Q] Does yours have glue ont he bezel?

Hi all,
Got my UK TF101 today and loving it.
However the finish is not that good. The small plastic strip between the glass and the bronze edge of the casing has remnants of the glue used during the assembly and it won't come off. Looks like it has been rush assembled and makes it look tatty. Would be a shame to return it just for that but when you spend this money and see what finish iPads have you really want it to be mint.
Does any one else have this problem on their TF101?
Unless they have changed the manufacturing process for newer devices, there's no glue anywhere near the casing/bezel.
I have some glue on the top of the black strip on the top-left (when holding the tablet in landscape mode). I only noticed it when I had my desk lamp shining on it. It wasn't present on the other TF I had at the moment. Doesn't really bother me that much.
Yeah, mine arrived today and has the same thing. The rubber's not quite flush with the screen and its mount, but it really doesn't matter.
Overall very impressed with the device so far. I certainly won't be sending it back over that small defect. We live in an imperfect world..!
Yup. But eventually after some use it wore off.
Mine just arrived today I can see some remnants of what appears to be glue both bottom & left side. Also it appears that the 1/2 section on the rubber on the right side has been rubbed down.
Quite agree it won't affect the use of the device but when you see how sharp a finish the iPad has it is a shame to not be perfect on the TF101.
I called Comet and they were happy to do a swap. When I popped in to the local store the Customer Service Desk chap admitted I was the third person with this problem. He got another one from stock and it was better but still a bit of dried glue. He offered an exchange or 10% refund. I decided to go with the 10% refund so got £43 back. I can now live with the problem.
If others want to see what we are on about here is a pic of my bezel. Right hand side is as I would expect but the top strip is very messy and slightly raised compared to the flush fitting section.

Thx for the pic, it's good to see what you were describing. I've looked really closely at my device and I still cant see any glue on mine. It looks like the manufacturing process has changed since they started production, not for the better in this case it seems. That certainly is a fair amount of money off though.
Had glue on mine too, I thought it had been refurbed and returned it for another unit. This one was checked in store and appears perfect.
