Your TMOUS HD2 may have these problems! - HD2 General

I bought my TMOUS HD2 on launch day. I've noticed a few strange things about it that I thought I'd report. You should check your HD2 for the same things. Pay attention when you check--these are sometimes subtle.
1. The demo racing game, Ferrari, is choppy--there are small freezes during races.
2. The audio is slightly delayed (audio plays just before the mouths move, producing "lip sync" problems, etc). Turns out this affects the Transformers videos as well as all players and maybe some games. Coreplayer/tcpmp are affected, too.
3. Newton's rings. After a day of use, angle your device in front of an indoor/flourescent light. You might be able to see oily rainbow rings appearing in your screen. These can't be wiped off, and are not just under your case/screen-protector, they're deeper than that.
Does anyone else have these problems? Are they normal? Should I/you ask for a refund or an exchange?
[edit]
#1 is CONFIRMED for users with some stock microSD cards! Moving the game off of the memory card fixes the choppiness!
#2 seems to be present in ALL HD2 devices!
#3 seems unique to my device.

I've observed all of these problems except the newton's rings.

umm.. if you can replicate those problems on pc (more specifically the movies on a pc, just copy the files to your pc and play them and see if its the same) I have had my phone since the thursday before launch.. and i don't have ONE of those problems...
good luck getting an exchange done with the backorders and high demand BUT i would at least return it till more come in if they can't "exchange" it.
My biggest problem i HAVE had is random sleep of deaths... where it doesn't want to turn back on from sleep mode... but being a long time windows user... pulling the battery randomly is natural (sad i know lol)... and it doesn't happen frequent enough to piss me off.
Also... r you on the stock rom or cooked rom?

I've noticed skyfire to be choppy and audio out of sync on a strong 3g connection pulling 1100 kb/s. Never had that problem on my touch pro 2.

the ferrari game is , and has been, choppy since day 1. there was an unboxing video a few days before the HD2 came out, can't remember what site it was, and he played the game for a little bit....looked choppy too.
the transformers audio does appear to be a little bit out of sync, very little but still noticeable.
I don't see the 'rainbow screen' on the HD2 though I do have it on the TP2, first I've heard of it on the HD2.

The problem with the choppyness on the game is actually the micro SD card. The micro SD cards that shipped with our devices seems to have a problem. If you copy the game on to another micro SD card the choppyness will go away. The same might be true for video (I just have not had time to test it yet).

I don't want to thread jack, but maybe you guys are having this issue also.
After syncing my contacts, I lose contact numbers. I've synced via outlook and gmail and I get the contact's names onto my phone, but phone numbers are randomly missing. I can't figure out what the contacts have in common. I came from a blackberry and my lady from a dumb phone and we both have the same issue with missing phone numbers.
Anyone else? Got a resolution?

which server are u trying to sync? google server? I just notice the names aren't syncing properly but in terms of phone numbers and e-mails and addresses, i got all of those back by syncing to google's server via outlook.
in terms of this thread tho, i haven't had any of these problems above, i just tested my transformers pc and phone and both are playing in sync... the ferrari game yes its kinda choppy, but like the guy said above it might've been a sdcard issue, since they will only ship us with class 2 sdcards...

my girl just imported from her simcard and has the same issue
thanks

Received my HD2 from TMO on the 31st and do not have the problems you are describing.

Thanks for the responses, everyone! For those of you who aren't experiencing at least problems 1 and 2, can you answer the following:
1. Are you using a custom microSD card?
2. Could someone take a video demonstrating that the problem does NOT occur with your device?
T mobile will claim ignorance unless there is some proof that at least some of our devices don't have the first two issues (the choppy racing game and the audio delay).

I havent noticed the audio lag in transformers but have noticed that Ferrari game to be choppy. Have any of you notice Sense UI locking up your phone?
For Instance, If im browsing on Opera Mobile 10 and then quit the app, I get a black screen for the today screen and only the Start Menu is accessible.
Then I hit Start, and I hit settings but its just stuck so I can get to "HOME" to turn off Sense UI so basically I have to remove the battery.
Also, in the Photo Viewer IN SENSE UI , I recorded about 15 3min videos (Went to a Mexican Corrido Concert ) Once I click on "Albums Soft Key", All the preview thumbnails start loading for the videos and just freezes there.
Then when I try to click on any image, It wont pull up the picture in fullscreen. It just hangs. This is BS.
Never had these issues with my Sprint Touch Pro 2. Will remove the SD card and try my 4gb card.

A hard reset and new card should fix the software issues. So would a new ROM. This thread is primarily concerned with hardware defects.

buy class 6 microsd card and your problem will be gone

u will find alot of problems with this device reason being tmo never looked into it they just seen it and said we will take it , slapped there name on it and threw in a few bells and whisles and apps and threw it on the shelves. without knowing anything about it, now its like if u need to know anything about the device or need to fix it because of a software issue its pointless to call them because they dont know anything about the hd2, so u hav to know people like us to help u guys out

Exactly...The card came with the phone is class 2 which is too slow for this kind of device. Damn cheap ass Tmo.

1. The Ferrari game runs smooth on my HD2, not choppy at all
2. This is a microsd card speed issue, I replaced mine with a class 6 and the audio is in perfect sync.
3. I have yet to see the rings you are speaking about.

Was it ever out of sync for you, even with a class 2?
My videos can often play without skipping any frames. Playback is full speed, but the audio is always 250ms behind the video (that's 1/4 second--a large amount).
Are you sure the card speed is the only issue here? I can understand for the ferrari game, or for skipped frames in large videos, but my videos can be as low as 25MB for 25 minutes, and not drop any frames, but the audio is still exactly 250ms behind the video at all times.
I'm going to create a new thread specifically about the audio delay.

the ferrari game plays perfectly if you copy it to the phone. i tried it on mine and it worked fine without any choppiness whatsoever.

Sense UI massive speedup

I've been using the hero for about a week now, pretty solidly. At first I was getting annoyed with laggy accelerometer, laggy screen switches, lagg keyboard... last few days it seems like it has sped up hugely. I normally have a few RSS feeds, hi msn, music player, browser, maybe last fm and a few other bits open, especailly yesterday and today have noticed no appreciable slowdown.
So for people who are getting annoyed at sense, give it a week. I think dealing with a slightly laggy phone for a few days is a decent enough tradeoff for eventually getting a fast one, that still has the joys of sense.
Does anyone have any idea why it gets faster? Could it be a mechanism similair to windows superfetch, or perhaps some kind of self-optimising code? Or just psychological Whatever is it, I no longer get those little flashes of annoyance with the thing.

It will be this.
Cheers, I feel enlightened.
I personally suspect there's some kind of profiling/prefetching going on in android, maybe based around the preload daemon.
Did you change to a class 6 microSD card? I have heard that android maintains a swap file on it and everything works better with a class 6 card rather than the slower class 4 one supplied in the box.
Just a thought...
I've been using a Class 6 card since i started using the hero and i haven't noticed any lag at all. For those who are experiencing lag, is you handset unbranded?
Hm. My UI actually slowed down instead of speeding up. This especially after I rooted the Hero and installed Chinese IME. Might also come from the fact that the number of apps on my phone keeps growing and growing...
I'm white unbranded (beautiful...) and there's quite literally no lag anymore. You know the bit where you type and get ahead of the keyboard? Stopped happening on tuesday.
Man and machine in perfect harmony
I've also experienced some terrible lag on the keyboard and am hoping that what you report is correct. I should also be getting my 8 gb micro sdhc card today or tomorrow (class 6) so hopefully that will speed things up a little also. I'll let you guys know how It goes.

Depends, some cards there is a number in the top right corner, others just don't have anything. There is a program for the PC when you put the memory card in a card ready which will assess its speed, just can't remember what its called.
Mine is lagging as much as it was on the first day. I'm curious about the class6 sd. Maybe it's a solution. Thank you for keeping in touch about that
My keyboard has slowed back down again It's started lagging and selecting the alt-key at least once a text message. The rest of it seems to have slowed back down aswell. I'm going to try work out what's doing this, at the moment the two new apps I've used are Peep and imeem.
I believe I have an 8gig class6 sd. Might be class4.
Using a class 2, 4 or 6 won't speed up the UI since it's on the main memory not on the card.
I have a class6 and it is laggy
Whilst most of my experience with the Hero has been lagged it just seems to get worse day after day.
The keyboard for example which I loved at first has become quite appalling to use now, I mean i've never been a fast typer on virtual keyboards but I feel now that with the keyboard as it is now on my phone is actually slowing me down further!
The phone slows down a little for me to from time to time. I just reboot it and it is real fast again. Also I'm hoping that the Class 6 Transcend card will give a noticeable boost.
Klling peep really seems to help. It does seem like a good amount of the HTC software has lots of room for improvement, but it makes the phone so much nicer to use than standard android. Hopefully we'll get an update soon.
why don't the apps just close when you shut them? ok i understand peep and mail... still running as it updates at intervals but i had 10 apps running last night, albums, video player, barcode scanner, google maps, doggcatcher and more, the phone was almost unuseable.
i know mine has speeded back up after i uninstaled a few apps.
Locale seemed to really slow mine down, Peep does as well, and astrid kept causing the home button bug.
Since i got rid of those, it is a whole heap better.
mm i use astrid, what is the home screen bug? do use any other app in its place?
hadn't even started using it to be honest. got it as a plug in for locale so i could have GPS based reminders, but didn't get a chance to try it out.
basically the bug is in a few other threads, where once you hold the home key to view recent apps, it unlocks the binding to touchflo and it asks whether you want to use touchflo or the base android homescreen.
stopped as soon as i uninstalled astrid. also happens with Task Manager by Wing Shen. but that is another thread....

*Music issues thread*

I thought I would start a thread for those experiencing music play-back issues.
I get 'skipping' when playing back music, but the really annoying thing is that sometimes it does not occur at all. This means I cannot, by process of elimination, determine what the cause is. Today I listened to an album with no problems at all, but last night the same album was skipping very badly - so file type cannot be to blame (it was AAC anyway).
If anyone else is having similar problems, please post and detail your phone model and network.
I have the graphite model on Orange. I have alerted HTC tech support to this problem and am awaiting a response.
Thanks.
Well, I still get intermittant skipping during the beginning of tracks! This is VERY frustrating, especially as I cannot pin down the reason and some people on here seem to have no problems at all. So my music player is effectively useless. I hope the update addresses this issue, but something tells me it won't...
Sorry but I have no problems at all really. Maybe a bit of hiss at the very lowest volumes but other than that I have happily replaced my ipod touch

Exactly the same here, does anyone out there have a clue why this is happening?
I have this problem too - Hero on Orange in the UK.
I have stuttering with BT playback and also the 'stretching' problem where a track goes off-key, like a dying 1980's walkman. Have tried turning off Wifi/Mobile/GPS but still occurs. Is better if the phone is 12 inches away from the BT headphones, but that kind of sucks.
Are you using bluetooth?
I found that having wifi turned on while using bluetooth caused stuttering, and this was fixed by turning off the wifi.
There are a variety of different issues you may encounter. For those having stuttering issues at the start of a track, are you using the stock SD card supplied with the phone? I think that is only a class 2 SD card, which provides a lower transfer rate which some people think can hobble things - particularly if you have other SD things going on like apps2sd and swapper. I have a 16GB class 6 card installed and haven't noticed any stuttering.
Cutting other background tasks such as Twitter (or at least dialling it back from an update every 5 minutes) may help things.
YMMV.
I've had a few Heroes now and only my most recent one had a stutter problem. The apps and settings were set to be the same on each phone. The MP3s were the same on the same card. I have no idea why one phone would have problems like that when the others didn't.
Happily, I applied the latest Rom and based on listening to half an hour of music last night it seems to be fine now.
Everything works better with this ROM it seems so look forward to release / get flashing.
I can confirm that since installing the Modaco update ROM, I no longer experience skipping/interferance. I have not listened to a large amount of music so it's early days, but things are looking good!
For people's information, I have a class 6 16gb card and yet I still used to get problems. So I think SD cards are not the source of the problem - especially since the update appears to have cured the problem.
Thanks.
I get stuttering and tempo changes over bluetooth using 2.73.405.5 (MCR 2.0), ie. the latest 'official' ROM, AFAIK.
Mid-tune stuttering seems to be down to weak BT transmission, i.e. if I turn my head to the left whilst cycling, I get stutter, if I look forward, it's OK. If I have the handset in one pocket (nearest the BT headphone receiver) no stutter, if I have the handset in the other pocket, I get lots of stutter.
All of this with BT headphones that worked flawlessly with my iPhone 2G...
Hope this gets resolved soon (are you reading HTC?) or the phone going back to Orange for a Nokia N900
I had major stuttering at the start of almost every track with the original ROM. Although as for the OP sometimes it would be fine. Usually it was resolved by a reboot, but not always.
The latest ROM is a lot better (I have installed Generic 2.73.405.5, not MoDaCo's Customer ROM).
There is still occasional stuttering at the start of tracks though when the phone has been on for a long time and I have been making phone calls (the Phone and People apps do not seem to ever shut down once they have been opened - maybe this is the cause), but a reboot now ALWAYS solves it.
Syncing apps also cause a tiny stutter so tweak your apps like Peep etc so as not to be syncing every few minutes.
So, HTC have gotten some of the way there, but they could still improve things from here. Let's hope the next update sorts it (although we're still waiting for 2.73.405.5 to be officially released so who knows when the next one will be?)

Phone keps freezing

This is starting to become a constant issue and very annoying that i have to turn my phone off and back on. Also it lags like crazy and yes i check task manager nothing is open. This phone is an amazing piece of hardware but has a terrible software built into it...WHy the **** didnt HTC fix these issues when they released it on T-mobile they had 9months...
do an experiment. Try taking out the Micro SD card for a day and see if it still is having latency issues.
Mine only does that because my sd card is full of music and gps software. So it's to be expected if yours is the same. I was told by HTC if I want to keep music on my phone I should have it on the phone and not on the sdcard. Because every time you plug it in or turn it off it forgets where the music is stored on the card and what music is on there and has to refile everything.
Yes, It's the sd card...it sucks!

Terrible Phone
My first phone kept freezing even after I Master Reset it. I did that 3 times. My sd doesn't have anything on it except for the preloaded pictures that were already there. To keep my phone from freezing, I have to "End All Task" every time i use it. It still froze. This became so annoying. Finally, i got fed up. I felt i got a defective phone. I went back to the TMobile store and got the phone replaced... Got my second phone.... was so relieved... for a few days only!!!! Until the second one got defected too. The vibrator stopped working and the weather sense thing was weird. It kept displaying a moon when it's like mid-day with the sun out bright and shiny. Browsing the web was hell. I Master Reset it.... same thing... today, I went back to TMobile to return the phone. Don't be fooled by the looks... the inside is rotten!

I use to have freezing issues as well until I stopped windows live/hotmail from synching my mail automatically. I have my hotmail setup manually now. I've not had any freezing for several days now and I do not have to close ant apps with task manager. In addition, my battery life is greatly improved.
By the way, I am using the sd card that came with the device. Hope this information helps.
Thats the thing i dont have my email set up to automatic, i have gmail set up on manual...
My phone never freezes anymore. I upgraded to a ROM that gets rid of the HTC messaging client. Thank God!
I hate Microsoft's messaging client and i like HTC's client, so i don't want to turn it off but it is so slow if you have lots of messages.
my phone was freezing every day and even did a few resets and nothing. finally flashed a cooked rom and almost all the problems went away. i started out with energy's rom and that thing was crazy fast, no more lag at all. now im on dutty's (just because its oem looking) and its fast and problem free, phone never lags and never freezes on me like it used to and its just as fast as energy's. so i suggest that to everyone here having problems. since i was in the same boat. im still using the oem sd card also.

Maybe you guys can help me out, 1 problem/1 question

I'm having one huge issue with this phone, and that is it not staying connected to the 3G at my house. I can sit in my living room and have 3-4 bars of 3G service, as can everyone else in my family, and my phone will just plumb disconnect and give me that lovely error message that you must "dismiss" before going on. Now if it was once in a blue moon I might be more forgiving, but it's all the time, literally almost every 2-3 minutes if I'm surfing. I don't really want to hard reset my phone because I'm not sure it will solve the issue, so if anyone has any advice here that would be fantastic. This is a freakin expensive phone, and I would hate for it to not work right after jumping through T-Mobile's hoops to get it. My friend's HD2 also has this issue and it's quite frustrating for both of us.
Now on to my question. Is it possible for Windows Mobile to even play 720p video? I have an mp4 copy of Kung Fu Panda for instance, that is 720p resolution and only 800mb, with a total bitrate of less than 1200kbps, and none of the media players (Album, WMP, TCPMP) will play this file at all. I didn't figure it would be that big a deal for this processor but I'm just curious, it's kind of a pain to re-encode EVERY video for playback on the phone. I have some MKV TV shows that are smaller files as well but 720p resolution and TCPMP won't play them either. Anything with that resolution causes TCPMP to crash. I was curious as to whether this was the phone not accepting the resolution or the audio track, which is a 5.1 surround track. I love this website and searched for both of these issues and couldn't find anything useful, so I have to ask y'all
Well, Homestar1217, I am also located in the DFW area and have the same problem. I constantly have to go to wireless controls in settings and turn my Data connection back on! You're right! It's VERY annoying!
It's probably the codec/container that you're using for your 720p file that's the issue.

It is extremely annoying. If I hadn't already passed my 14 day return policy I'd be taking it back pronto. The new vibrant catches my eye at this point. Quite honestly I'm disappointed with this phone. Both browsers are sub-par, it took forever for me to figure out just the right bunch of settings on 3 different pieces of software for proper video conversion, swype has about a 25 second delay in the sms app before it lets me type, and mainly, it can't even stay connected to the network! I got this guy because of the processor, but it seems like all of the effort went into Sense, and no one tried to optimize the rest of the OS for the beast of a processor that it packs. Anyways, didn't mean to turn this into a complaint post. One 720p file is AVC with an mp4 container and video bitrate of 932kbps, and audio is AAC 6 channel at 278kbps. the other is an MKV with AVC video at 3476kbps and AC-3 audio at 384kbps, also 6 channel. I thought TCPMP would play those files but it crashed on both. I hope all that makes sense to you guys, it does to me

as far as TCPMP goes ... have you soft reset since you installed it? It crashed repeatedly on me before I soft reset, then, magic
if you want a different phne but are past the 14 day ask tmobile to send a new hd2 if you have the unit replaced 3 times in a 90 day period you are eligible for a handset exchange, I'm in this process right now... on my 3rd HD2 and i have the same data issue, after this i can upgrade to the mytouch slide,
*edit* as long as there is no heavy physical damage a.k.a. drop....
Just an fyi...I am in that third phone catagory. You won't get the phone you want...they offered me a Dash 3g! I said "That's not a comparable phone". They said that was the exchange phone and now they're sending me my 4th HD2. I'm having terrible lag issues while texting.
joe the lag issues might be happening because your threads are getting too big.i was having the same lag issue through the regular t9 texting then i switched over to swype in the settings and had a 15 second delay before i could text and realised after some help from this forum that there was too many messages in some contacts threads so everytime it gets to around 60 messages i just delete the thread. This happens with a lot of phones not just this one so give it try and see if it helps with your problem.

Music player glitch on i9000m... absolutely fed up... solutions?

Hey all,
I typically never register and make my first a complaint/help post, but this problem has been plaguing me ever since I first got my Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell (i9000m) a week ago and now I'm pretty much desperate in looking for a solution, as music listening happens to be a HUGE part of my Smartphone experience. I love the phone with everything else thus far after coming over from iphone 3G and definitely wouldn't want to change the phone just because of this problem... but it's becoming way too persistent for me that I'm actually considering switching back to Apple (even though I don't want to).
Here's the problem: The music player seems absolutely incapable of smooth playback of music for whatever reason. In my ~10 years of music phone experience (I got the first ever mp3 phone released here in Canada - the Samsung Uproar, many years ago actually), this phone is the first to have such problems. Here are some symptoms and settings, music playing on both the stock music player as well as btunes that I downloaded and paid for:
- MP3/AAC files stutter/skip seemingly at random. Not majorly but for half a second or so at different parts of the song. Happens somewhat consistently, every 4 minutes or so, but at random.
- Here's an interesting thing; the ability for FLAC playback is one of the main reasons why I purchased this phone, and so far it's incapable of doing so properly. EACH AND EVERY FLAC song I have stutter/skips at a certain point for 3/4th of a second... and the funny thing is that this seems to occur at exact same point of each song.
- Before any of you question the point, 95% of these are self-ripped FLAC/mp3 files from my own cd's, using EAC. I'm an audiophile and know well how to rip songs properly, so I know this is 100% NOT the problem of the files itself... especially since they play perfectly in every single music player software/mp3 player/cellphone that I've ever used.
- This happens in both stock touchwiz and launcher pro UI that I'm currently using.
- Happens in both stock player and btunes as mentioned earlier. Interesting thing about FLAC files; I mentioned before each files skip at same parts of the song... interestingly the stock player and btunes seem to skip with these files at DIFFERENT parts of the song, yet the part where they stutter/skip is still the same for each player. So for example, Song A would skip on stock player at 3:31 point of the song each time, but that same Song A would skip on btunes at 2:23 point of the song every time...
- I do have beautiful weather widget running, and will test it out soon to see if this is the problem (haven't got around to doing so yet and don't have headphones with me atm)... but even if it is, it would seem appaling to me that a widget and a simple resource-light music player can't coexist... doesn't make sense to me and kind of misses the point of a high end smartphone.
- I'm not going to use Airplane mode as a solution, since this pretty much misses the point of the smartphone as I've said above. Besides, I've tried it already and music STILL stuttered/skipped!
- As I have high end headphones/IEMs such as Audio Technica ESW10JPN and Shure SE530, it's definitely not the headphones, and they work flawlessly in any other player.
- Drag and drop, media player, Kies, you name it... every method of transfer of songs gives the same problem.
- Internal SD card, External SD card... doesn't seem to make a lick of difference either.
- I have the stock JG9 firmware that my phone came with. I would download the new one that is apparently out for my i9000m version (JH2) if Kies ever detects the damn thing (it's never there as an update)...
So any clues on how to solve this annoying problem. As I've said, this is the ONLY problem I've had with my unit (my GPS is fine, and phone runs lag free) and its a darn shame because music playback is a huge part of my smartphone use. Is this likely a firmware problem? Or just a problem with memory use? If I don't have to I'd REALLY rather not root the phone but if that solves it for certain then I'm actually willing to look into it... that's how desperate I am to solve this problem.
I'd appreciate any input in this matter... thanks in advance.
I had the same problem, and pinned it down to one of my widgets hogging all the resources. As soon as I disabled the widget, playback was fine again.
another tip
disable media scan

I'll be trying this out later on, but seems really sad to me for a phone of this calibre in not being able to handle that if this was true...

Just a guess but this would require rooting, won't it?
yes, as you need to install another piece of software to do the trick
but you can always Un-root, if you ever need to send your phone for warranty

Probably more bad coding of the free widgets rather than the phone not being capable. I can write a 4 line .vbs script that will cane most PC's and drag them to their knees.
Have you done a factory reset? No problems here, love the music player. I have beautiful home also

mine doesnt skip at all even while using gps.. i would recommend that you check your sd card.. maybe bad or too slow..
that is indeed a posibility.
in older devices low speed SD cards can cause data skip
but now in days most SD cards are pretty fast, so the problem shouldn't be there, yet you'll never know, so that's the posibility
Nah. My external micro SD is a class 6 Sandisk, and I'm sure the internal one isn't all that bad either... comes with the phone after all. Pretty sure it isn't the SD Cards as the problem happens on both. Tried the music player without any widgets running, with the phone connected through headphone jack into AUX of my car for about 6 minutes at lunch... and it actually played pretty smoothly... but I'll have to try that out more extensively later, plus try it with FLAC files as well.
Haven't done a factory reset (apparently it doesn't do much for ppl who's had same problems), but I'll be flashing to the JH2 later on today so I'm guessing that'll be more or less the same thing... hoping that it makes some sort of difference.
Alright, I was able to install JH2 firmware and play around with turning off the widgets and such... and it did not do ANYTHING with the FLAC Playback problems. The same tracks always still skip at the same place in the song, and no FLAC files seems to play 100% smoothly... and the tags are still broken. Turning off the widgets don't stop these glitches. MP3's on the other hand seems perfect for the most part unless I missed something... At this point, I'm just inclined to believe that FLAC support for Galaxy at this time is heavily glitched. Does anyone else here have perfect FLAC playback? Totally smooth with perfect tags and everything? If you do, please post the firmware and settings and all that.
Ugh, at least even iphone 4 had a perfect music player and a perfect lossless support, although it's ALAC instead of FLAC... strongly considering it now if the player is going to remain glitched like this. The phone is so excellent besides this, that I'd hate to do that... but music listening just happens to be a big part of my smartphone use.
other users have reported the same findings about FLAC
this is just a software thing, it'll be fixed in no time

I have the same thing too.. I suspect its a scheduling issue or buffering issue. Not sure about your tag issues though, as they work fine for me

My biggest concern is that FLAC playback is solely Samsung's responsibility apparently (Android apparently doesn't natively support FLAC, so I don't expect Froyo to do much), and I really doubt that it's one of their priorities for fixing at the moment (especially with the whole GPS issue). It's up to Sammy to fix it, but I can't say I have too much faith.
Well, since I've got an android phone and all I think I'll root this phone and play around with the setCPU stuff, and see if that helps. This fixed it for one of the users from what I've read.
I've got no problems playing any FLAC file on my default Samsung player very smooth. I haven't rooted my phone or ever installed custom firmwares. I am running the new official UK firmware XXJM1.

Sandisk Class 4 4GB card.
FLAC Bitrate: 1411Kbps ~ Lossless Audio Codec File
Wow... well, it's at least a good news that someone else can playback FLAC smoothly without any problems... and it also means that if this is true, then its more than likely that this is purely a firmware issue... which means it's more than possible for Samsung to fix this.
Factory reset solved media issues for several people I know of. So if you didn't reset your phone when you got it, do so now and chances are you are rid of the problem.

I've flashed to a new firmware since I first got it. Wouldn't this technically be the same thing as factory reset since the initial firmware/contents got wiped out clean and replaced by a brand new one? And even after that unfortunately the audio problems still remain for me...
Try putting the music onto external sd card. Had audio skipping problems after installing one click click lag fix and went crazy trying to figure it out.

It's been on external SD card since the second day. Doesn't seem to matter for me at all since the files skip the same way on both internal and external card.
I'm going to go to the Bell Store anyway today (to discuss phone plan stuff), so I think I'll take my SD card with me and try the demo models to see if there are same playback problems on those. I really doubt this is due to hardware but hey, since I'll be there anyway, why not.
