Music Folder on MT3G - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Just curious, is there a certain folder I need to place my music files in to play on my player? Everytime I go to music, it grabs all the files from notifications and my ringtones folders!! Is there a easier way to play my music?

Regarding Music...
Can anyone help me out??

Personally I don't use the stock music player for that very reason. Check out an app from the marketplace callled MixZing Lite (it's free.) It has the ability to monitor a specific folder for music and also comes with a pretty slick widget.

You can created a blank file called .nomedia (notice the dot at the front) in your ringtones folder which will stop the Media service (Gallery and Music) from searching in there for files. I have not tested if this will break ringtone searching, so give it a go and just delete your new .nomedia file if all your stuff disappears from ringtones.
You also may be interested to know if you call your album covers AlbumArt.jpg then they will appear in music player when a song from that album is playing, but Gallery will not index them and take a thousand years to load cos of all the covers called different names in different folders.

TouchFlo Music

Hi
Could anyone tell me how I get the music part of touchflo to read mp3 files on my storage card
I deleted the stock 2 music files from my documents/music folder and now it just tells me there are no files found !
Thanks
I'm not sure exactly why the music player is not seeing your music files, but I can pass on some useful tips that I have discovered. Please excuse me if these have been covered elsewhere, or if some of them seem terribly obvious to experienced users :
(1) Put all the tracks from a particular album inside their own folder, and save each such album folder in a "My Music" folder on the SD card. This keeps things nice and organised.
(2) Try to ensure that each track MP3 file has got the various "meta tags" set properly to describe the track number, artist, album etc because the music player uses those for sorting and filing the tracks. There is a handy program called Tag&Rename that is very helpful to edit these tags.
(3) If you place a JPG image called "Folder.jpg" inside each album folder, the music player will make a copy called "hTC_AM_AlbumArt.jpg" which it displays when you play back that track or when chosing albums. Once the music player has made this file, you can delete "Folder.jpg" to save space.
(4) The music player may take several minutes to index all the music if you have many files. Be patient! Until it has indexed fully, some tracks may not appear in the music library at all, or appear with music note images instead of the proper album image.
(5) If the indexing seems to have any problems, switch off the HD with a long press of the power button or do a soft reset. This seems to force it to re-index all the music.
(6) I had a problem when I first copied all my music to the device. It made an error message afte a while. I tracked this down to one particular music track; I don't know why, but suspect that there may have been something odd in the meta tags.
Hope this helps !

the best way, i think is sync the music files with wmp in your pc

Weird problem with music player

Havin a real weird problem with my music player, need some help.
I've put my ringtones and notifications in all the different locations that the media player is supposed to ignore, though not all at the same time
/sdcard/ringtones
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
/sdcard/sd/ringtones
/sdcard/sd/media/ringtones
etc, same for notifications
No matter where I place them, though the media player still is picking them up. I would put a .nomedia in the folder, but prevents them from showing in the ringtone/notification lists in Settings.
Is there any way to stop this from happening? I first noticed this behavior after rooting, but would just installing SU and busybox really cause music player to read these folders that are supposedly hidden to it?
This is driving me nuts when I'm listening to music and suddenly my ringtone starts playing and I think I'm getting a call!
Thanks.

this problem has been driving me nuts too. but you putting it into words just gave me an idea, try the no media thing, so it prevents them from showing up in the settings lists, but then try going "oldschool" (lol) and using rings extended from the market. it was an app first released for the g1 to see and select ringtones on the sd card that the settings lists weren't picking up.
00000
where exactly did you put the .nomedia? and what kind of file was it? or was it the name of a file or folder?
i'm down to help figure this one out ucz this music player is starting to piss me off with it's badass look yet completely lacking in options.
ps: another good feature of the stock android music player was that if you hit the context menu while a song was playing, it had a "delete" option. this was great for someone like me who dumped tons of new music i just wanted to have on the phone, and when i party shuffled, i could be like, "WTF is this unworthy for mobile listening sh!t? *delete". haha miss that option so...
yep...this is bugging me too...i just download a game and all the SFX shows on my albums list...and the ringtones that i have download from zedge...however a easy solution for me is was creating playlists...i really like this phone and it getting better and better...specially now that i found out that there's a equalizer in the music player...excellent.
Hopefully there will be solutions for this little bugs...i'm still keeping my phone the way it is.
Playlists works too, except I have like 3gb of music on my card, it takes a long time to go through and individually add all the songs to a playlist.
I found out that the music player ignores .mid files, so I just renamed all my .mp3 files to .mid. Phone still picks them up for use as ringtones/notifications.
I tried both a .nomedia file (just create a new file on your computer named whatever.nomedia, copy it to your phone and use Astro or Files to rename it to .nomedia) and naming the folder .media, but in both cases none of the ringtone files showed up in the ringtones list.

question about putting music in the phone

where in the sdcard can I put the music I have in my pc so it shows correctly in the player in the phone?
Create a folder named music.
Actually, music can be wherever you want it to be, in whatever folder you want. There's a media scanner process that runs every so often that scans your SD card and finds music files wherever they may be. Typically the stock media player can see all media files found by the scanner, but if you're using a third-party player, it might only look certain places for the files.
Off the top of my head, Meridian lets you choose which folders it will look in for media files, whereas doubleTwist appears to be hard-set to only look in certain locations for media files, such as Music and Videos (it seems to ignore any audio files I have in my notifications and alarms folders).
If in doubt, then yeah, just put your music files in a folder called Music.

[Q] Vibrant Music Player Help

Hi, my vibrant is mainly used for an mp3 player...In music player..I keep seeing EVERY mp3 i have on the phone..I have my music/podcast mp3s, plus my ring tones...is there a way to not have my ring tones (located btw in their OWN directory on the phone [under "[rings] ] keep showing up in my music player??..also I have a lot of podcasts loaded..(again as for everything in their own dedicated directory on the phone (under media/audio)...to be exact...podcasts are under T-Man... (these files have no ID3 tags, so they show up as UNKNOWN...fine...but why can't I change this directory's name and add a thumbnail pic? next I have mixshow mp3's by diff dj's...all in their respective folders.. as an example..1 dj's mp3's I added album art through winamp and saved the id3, copied to phone....nothing...still shows a stock music player img...what am I doing wrong? help me out please ...
PS. Tried Player Pro, which somehow added thumbs to some of my podcasts/mixshows..which had nothing to do with the content...deleted the app, thumbs remained...
Find the folder that's giving you the mp3 and add a dot a the begining, example .test that way the music player won't look in the there to get music

in each folder that is showing up in your music folder add a file .nomedia ...the music player will not scan that folder for music
as far as album art try a app called album art grabber...it's free in the market

[REQ] exclude media from various apps?

I haven't found any way to do the following. (Please correct me if I've passed over anything)
But I'm looking for both a music and gallery app, that allows me to choose the directory path that I only want those respective apps to scan. I.e. if I wanted to exclude my downloads folder from showing up in the gallery. Or my saved voicemail folder from showing up in music.
Honestly I'd love this to be native functionality I'm afraid it's not, but if it could be worked into cm7
Anyway if you have any ideas on how to achieve this, please chime in!
in your sdcard try to find a ".nomedia" file and just copy and past that into any directory you dont want media to be picked up from
unfortunately I don't think that will work for what I want.
Here's an example:
as a result of my ocd like tendencies for music organization, every folder of an album has a jpg or png of the album art in it. (yes I could delete this file, but I'd prefer to leave it on account of being stubborn and I think that's how my album art shows up in the music player.)
If I put the .nomedia file into that, I would lose the image from showing up in my gallery app, but it would also stop the music from showing up in the music player, wouldn't it?
That is why I would love to have the option to have my music (from settings) only search my "music" folder, and have gallery only search "dcim" and say "downloads" folder.
I know this is kind of nitpicky, but I really think it should be an option. Maybe I'm not so much looking for an instant solution, but rather others opinion on whether or not this should be available functionality.
Also correct me if I'm wrong about the .nomedia file in the above mentioned instance.
Late night bump.
Am I really the only one bothered by this?
If you have a .nomedia file in a folder, it will be excluded from music and gallery searching. There is no way to choose specific folders to include with stock apps, so just create an empty file with that name in the folders you want to skip.
Delete the album art JPG/PNG files; all modern music players for PC allow you to save album art to the media a tag instead of a seperate file. The seperate file is proprietary Microsoft invented crap.

Thanks, deleting the files worked. I'm just trying to remember when and how I embedded the album art into the songs
I still think android could improve how it handles media. But maybe that's just me.
Give MediaMonkey a go, if you're as fussed about your music collection as I you will fall in love the batch tagging and organizing features are unmatched.
Edit: If you want to use autosync/autoconvert in MM it will require the paid registration for gold features. Also, AAC encoder is an extra paid addon... but it can encode MP3 and WMA native. It does ogg, but ogg has non-standard album art embedding... which Android doesn't pick up.
Edit: if you want just a batch converter that can embed album art, try dbpoweramp - mature, industry proven, and also freeware. Its miles ahead the bloatware/shovelware converters out there!

I'll definitely look into it thank you
