Just flashed new Fresh 2.1, all my numbers are gone now... I have nandroid. - Hero CDMA General

I just flashed the new fresh 2.1 rom and my numbers are gone. I have a nandroid though, is there any way to get my numbers back in? If I use the nandroid, wont it put me back to my previous state when I did the nandroid backup?

with numbers you need to have a backup separate than your phone...restore and sync your contacts to outlook or google contacts, THEN flash and resync... I keep my contacts in exchange so I get them back everytime...just a thought otherwise you'll be stuck where you are.
GOOD LUCK

Hmm, ok. For some reason when I sync it does NOT backup my contacts... It says its synching but nothing happens. How do I get HTc sync, well to sync my backups?

that's asking too much once you restore your contacts should re-appear from there sync your contacts to outlook or google contacts....this shouldn't have anything to do with backing up backups with htc sync. Hope that helps...if you can't get past this I wouldn't fiddle with your phone/rom anymore...just sayin.

Oh I thought you meant that I needed to use HTC sync and backup. I can do it with google.. I'll see if I can figure it out. Im restoring now.

Alright I signed into my gmail account on my PC and I see the contacts now. I never use gmail and I never knew it backed them up. So I'm going to export them over. Thanks a ton.

i thought that google backs up all your data? so even if you lost your numbers after a nandroid all you do is go to accs and sync your data back.. am i right? or did i just miss the whole point of this thread?

No you are right, I never knew that. Call me dumb or whatever you will, I just never knew that.

unable to sync contacts since update

just about Since i updated to JF ADP 1.42h i have been unable to sync contacts- i backed them up using mybackup and reinstalled them using this- the phone automatically synced all google stuff with gmail at the start and it wiped all but 5 of my contacts in gmail but all are still on my phone.
now when i try to sync contacts with gmail it says: "sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly"
Anyone else having/had this problem? How to fix?
thx
yes I am having this issue also. It really sucks. I notice it syncs the contacts but not completely thru. At first I thought it was something I did but now I am thinking it has to do with the 1.42(RC33) update I did.
Looking for a fix myself. I am just about to do a wipe to see if that does the trick. If it does I will report back but if someone knows anything about this please let us know .
hi,
i had the same problem and it deleted about 50 contacts before i realized it was doing so. mybackup if flawless on other versions of jesusfreke but its odd there is a problem this time. I think it might be jf's gear or maybe I partition the card and now its weird. i don't know....
Happy Valentines!
hbguy
i have decided to just live with it- all my contacts are backed up with mybackup anyway, just not in gmail anymore. Maybe next time install contacts first before syncing with gmail......
but am not gonna wipe again or anything- my wife would kill me getting all my settings right again- i will wait for the next update in a couple of weeks- hopefully cupcake
It as a job but I got it fixed by doing a complete wipe a few times. I lost radio for awhile for some reason flashed the latest radio update but contacts now sync perfectly.
I am about to do a partition test ... if it messes up after that then I know that's the cause. This all started now that I remember because I did a restore with MyBackup for my contacts & that was a mistake it seems like.
We shall see though.

me too! wonder what i/we did wrong? gmail after backup?

Where's the stock rom?

I'm so sick of the problems with these custom roms, I'm going back to stock.
LOL cute. Did you make a nandroid backup? If so you can restore from that, if not go to HTC's site and get whatever "stock" ROM you'd like.
Also, have you tried troubleshooting your ROM woes? It could be some ID-10 T error which a wipe typically clears. I've made this error a great many times.
P. S. I'm running CM nightly, and it's been relatively stable. So I'm sure the final release will be far more stable.

factory 2.2.1
I ran every rom, every kernal, every version, wiped, backed, burped and farted.
It's all over not being able to delete a Google account. God damn Google and their infinite wisdom.
not sure what you mean by delete a Google account
Two gmail accounts on one phone. The default needs to go. Google won't let me delete it without a wipe.
So, I wiped all day and flash new roms, nothing works. Restored a nandroid and the phone works for the first time today but same old two account business.
We used to be able to delete the google account, (clear user data I think) but I guess not anymore. If I have to wipe to fix this I want a phone that works and right now stock is looking peachy.

do you have the accounts linked through gmail settings (on computer not phone) That's the only reason I can think of and could be really off..
if you do a full wipe, set up one of the accounts(the one you want) and if they both appear after that maybe they are linked in some way through email. I know you can link accounts but never used it and dont know how it works.. but I do remember seeing a setting when I was poking around gmail

If I wipe login one account it only shows one and that's fine but I have my phone the way I want it and took days to get it this way. CM7 RC1/ mixer and it's been running fine. I tried to wipe, install RC1/Mixer again, and it didn't work for me. I've been at this all day and not happy.
Here's the issue: The default account has no contacts, the other accounts has all my contacts. If I try to use better cut or any cut I can't see the contacts because both those programs look at the default contact list. Better cut sees nothing.
It's a stupid problem that should be an easy fix, delete one account and the other becomes the default. How I achieve this magical feat eludes me.
orrrrr you can import contacts to that default account and ur problem is solved? which can all be done from your computer in under 10 minutes.
Export from second account all contacts into a folder, then import into the first.
I use 2 gmails. I don't have any problems.

you dont know how to do something and you cuss out google for their "infinite wisdom" and all custom roms? i understand you're frustrated, man, but don't get mad and cuss people out. a little bit of kindness goes a long way.
quoted text will solve your problem. and its probably easiest.
if you really want stock, here's a nandroid backup of stock, as i think the previous link looses root (correct me if im wrong)

[Q] Contacts don't sync by default?

I've been on Windows Mobile for years, but my wife has been using the Aria the last few months. I just updated her phone to the latest Stock ROM (trying to keep things simple), and I'm kind of shocked that after re-syncing it with her Gmail account, none of her contact synced! I have very little Android experience, but I kind of figured that, synced all this time to a Gmail account, her phone would have saved all of her contacts there, and not just on the device's internal memory.
Before installing the ROM, I backed up call logs and some apps with Astro, but I didn't think I'd need the Contacts or her email accounts, stuff like that. Did I just wipe her address book, or are they supposed to be saved somewhere out there?
You sure they were saved to Google's servers? Syncing only saves your contacts if they are linked to your GMail account. They won't save if you saved them to Phone or SIM (although they will still be saved on the SIM, unless that was wiped too).

At this point, I'm sure they weren't saved to Google's servers. I'm so surprised that Google, who automatically adds people to your Gmail contact list if you email them a few times, and tightly integrates the phone with a Gmail account, wouldn't automatically back up all phone contacts without specifically asking you to your Gmail account. My Windows Mobile phone contacts don't ask me if I want to save them to Exchange; they just do.
Since when does Microsoft "just work"? And Google doesn't?

Did you check her Google account to see if the contacts are saved there? If they are then you should still be able to sync them. If they're not then unless you did a nandroud they're gone. If you did a nandroid them you can just nandroid her current setup and restore the old nandroid, sync her contacts, and then reflash back to the current setup.

They're definitely not in her Google Account. And I installed the latest Stock ROM, which I'm told cannot be rolled back, unless someone's cracked that yet.

[Q] Syncing T-Mobile Contacts to a modded MT4G?

I searched the web and this site along with other sites...so either no one has covered it??.. which seems unlikely. OR I just do not understand.
Regardless. I am obviously new to this, so please bare with me. Last night I rooted my phone for the first time, a True Root. I then flashed Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0. All has gone well and love it. But cannot seem to find a way to sync my old contacts. Before doing this, I used to be able to sync my phone to T-Mobile in order to get my contacts. It no longer shows this option.
So... I am now out of all my contacts. Is there a way to recover this? I am not talking about contacts that were synced with Gmail or Yahoo. I am looking for all the contacts that were previously on my phone??
Again, I am noob and will continue to search but have been searching for the past 3 hours with no luck.
Thanks,
Suecyde
Had that issue awhile ago, check this thread, post 6-ended up not finding any answer except to import into gmail so don't have to worry about it anymore...you lose some info which sucks and have to manually update/clean up through gmail to get it to how you used to have it but will save you in the long run (once google takes over the world)....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979554
So basically, since I wiped my phone and never used that security program.. I lost all my contacts?
Using Google Contacts and keeping them organized there will prevent this from happening again?
Thanks again,
Suecyde
Not all roms have the t-mobile sync, but if you have gmail and sync it with your phone, then yes, you will always have your contacts and info no matter how many times you wipe and flash. You could maybe revert back to a nandroid that had the sync, let it sync up with your phone, then find some app that will back up contacts, then reflash the rom you are on now and restore the data. Then just make sure to back up your contacts before flashing a new rom...or just import them to gmail....
So I did just that. I began to rebuild my contacts.. but now through Gmail. At least now if I get another phone, I can use gmail to re-sync my contacts.
I am still learning and will continue to learn. I am still in wow over rooting and roms. This is all amazing to me and want more.
Thanks for your quick response and help.

[Q] contacts lost due to system software update HELP plz. :(

I have a problem... i recently received an ota and decided to install it, but had forgotten to export my contacts that were stored on my phone to my sd card, but from personal experience, i've never lost any contacts due to an update. and unfortunately, i didnt upload my contacts to tmobile or gmail. is there any way i can restore my contacts from the phone memory somehow? is there some sort of program or anything i can do? i figured the contacts were probably stored in some sort of temp area on the phone and could still be accessed and restored before it's lost forever. please guys and girls, i need your expertise!!!
I don't think so, & I am just curious. Surely you have synced your contacts on gmail or tmobile at some point in the last month or so? I know u said u didn't b4 the update but haven't you ever?

The contacts save to Gmail automatically. So simply just signing in to Gmail should bring everything back. Unless you chose to save them to the phone. Which you might still be able to retrieve them by going to the T-Mobile website, logging in and going to manage account then contacts.

That's what I was thinking. The only way they wouldn't, is if you disabled auto-sync.

i forgot to mention, i didn't back up to gmail or tmobile because the phone was out of the states using a sim card that did not have internet service nor was it connected to wifi for it to have backed up to either... am i really screwed? plz somebody save mee!!!! ((((( i thought it would be a similar concept to how you can technically restore music from a wiped ipod just because it's saved to some sort of temp thing... no software out there that can be used to dig in to the phone and restore that which had been deleted? the saddest part is that i didn't even delete the numbers myself. that stupid software update ruined everything.

Sorry, if there was no back up of any kind then you're royally screwed. You have no way to get any of them numbers back.
But just in case, go into your contacts app and press menu. You will see where it says import/export. Click on it and import from phone. If you're lucky, when you click on import from phone, you will see numbers. If no numbers show up then, like I said, sorry but you're screwed.
