htc evo = htc hd 2 on android soon? - EVO 4G General

since it has similar specs as the htc hd2 and they have the same screen size, would it be possible to finaly get a working android 2.1 system on htc hd 2? i kno its a bit off topic but its related to the upcoming htc EVO, and the big resemblence between the ones mentioned before...

I hope so

..
I'm not a developer but i think it wil be much simpler to port the android on the hd2 now with the evo coming out.. from what ive heard the biggest problem they had with porting the android on hd2 was the resolution. So since they both have the same screen size and the hardware is similar(htc evo being an hd2 on steroids) i don't see any problems. If a dev could give his opinion, it would be much apreciated...

I hope it will be possible. I cant be doing with the amount of people *****ing about WP7s not coming to the HD2.
And droid blows anything microsoft have made away (in my opinon anywho).
Would the fact that the EVO is only out to the US market effect it being ported to worldwide HD2's?
As in will it still work in the EU?
I hope some chefs get on this fast...
HD2 with droid would be perfect.

wp7 is going in the iphone feel direction..not realy a fan of the iphone.. but i hav to admit the games that they will put out is makin wp7 sound a bit sweeter but it cant compare to the android...i heard that they will have a eu vers aswell wich is gn be similar to the us evo. what can i say ... it gives us, hd2 owners, a bit of hope..lets just keep our fingers crossed..

if they can get it on a touch pro 2 they might be able
http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-htc-hero-getting-android-21-april-9th

If some devs vouch that it can be done then I will get the HD2! I need to know as well. Wirefly has it for 99.999 w contract!

..
i have the htc hd2..its just briliant...and i have no doubts that before sept we will have a working android and this beautiful piece of technology..if not im gn upgrade to an hd3 in nov

Android 4G device will rule !!!
Android is making the open source community proud. I mean the specs on this 4G Android phone is amazing check my video on it youtube my user name is AndroidAdvocate.

HD2 VS Supersonic

what do you guys think about this?? t-mobile it's getting the hd2 and sprint might get the supersonic, supposedly the supersonic has 3.7 or 4.3 screen inch same as hd2, but hd2 runs windows mobile and supersonic will run android, what do you guy think about this two powerful smarthphones? which one would be better? will t-mobile have any chances of getting the supersonic? will supersonic launch on june of 2010?

get supersonic if it has 4.3 display android now is better
I'm not going to change carrier just for a phone. They're pretty much similar in specs and the battle between WinMo vs Android comes down to personal preference, really. Still, at the end of the day, I'd rather have a SIM card than not (Sprint has horrible receptions around here anyway).
lol @ questions about speculating.
If the Supersonic gets released, and it has the same hardware as the HD2, then it will be just as much of a monster as the HD2.
I REALLY don't understand the mentality of people who believe Android is the best mobile OS right now. Currently owning a G1 since launch day (and a Nexus One for a week), I can testify to it's many shortcomings. Windows Mobile isn't perfect, but in terms of stability it's on a different level entirely.
i have t-mobile and i will buy the hd2 since i dont really like sprint but.. the supersonic seems good too, i hope doesnt come with 4.3 in screen because i will be soo jealous because most the people in this forum want android in hd2 and supposedly the supersonic will be just like hd2 but in android, i have never got an android phone but ill stick with the hd2 maybe if the supersonic it has same hardware as hd2 people from xda can hack it and we can be able to use it on hd2, who knows
In my oppinion , to answer your question, how developed is Android & how deeveloped is Windows. Seems Windows has more experience than Android. To me the Supersonic is coming out of left field to try & imitate & take some of the glory away from the King-HD2, me, it's HD2 all the way.
Oh yea Sprint is on it's last breath, not very many people use sprint, regardleess they say it's #3(which doesn't make sense, w/lousy customer support included) & Tmo is #4 with the best plans & the best phones & great customer support (been to them all & Tmo is where I'm going back to w/no complaints). a year & a half I've been waiting & next week I'll be happy again.
yeaah king-d2 sounds good, do you think there's going to be an htc hd3 by november?
Well i don't think so but it's posible you see Win7 seems to be their new direction which seems Ok in a way concidering the big hassle Apple is giving so many manufactures which leaves Windows free & clear. Personally, maybe I'll use Win 7 on my PC but I don't have all that much of a need for it on the HD2. Check Engadget & Boygeniusreport for starters to recognize the many sites that will keep you updated.
i will never stop saying that the Genius's are here.
yeah.. well i dont know bout those hd3 "specifications" that were on the internet, i hope they are true i wanna believe so bad but only time will tell
what do you guys think

HD2 or Incredible

Well after my ATT Razr finally ave up the ghost last week I ended up getting an HD2 T-Mobile. My first smart phone so I have no experience to compare Winmo/Android/Iphone.
First off I LOVE the large screen and sleek form factor of this phone. It is pleasure for me just to look at it and hold in my hand. Also the sense UI is very nice and thanks to XDA I have this thing tweaked nicely with Cookie's Home Tab, tetherings, etc. It might even be better if I flach the ROM.
That said I do seem to get a lot of freezes and crashes. Also with T-mo I am on Edge a lot and never was with ATT. I have an Incredible that will be waiting for me at Verizon on Thursday but I am a bit conflicted about giving up the HD2. I'm hoping for some feedback from more experienced smart phone users on this forum. some pros and cons for me:
Incredible runs Android. I guess this is the big one. May be more stable, more apps to download, etc.s. Maybe a much better user experienced.
love the big screen on HD2 (but I guess3.7 aint shabby)
Better network with Verizon but a bit more money
HD2 is quad band world phone.
OLED screen on Incredible is supposed to suck in daylight and the HD2 may be something I can use better outdoors. I guess the battery life is better with OLED but I would rather carry a spare battery and be able to see the thing on the street.
I have until Friday (2 more days) to return my HD2 so your feedback is appreciated.
Thanks................Marc
Return the HD2, get the incredible, if you dont like it, return that and get the HD2 again!
or just play with one in the shops. we arent gonna be living with the phone, you are, and so what I may like may not be what you like
That said, I want the Incredible, cos i wanna experience android, but I like the HD2 aswell! I cant have both, and since the incredible isnt coming to the uk, i guess thats my decision made for me!
U can put an Android system to HD2..and prolly U can also put a WM to Incredible
personally Ive got an HD2, but Id love to have the incredible..but for now its only for states 4g stuff..but really..before the Incredible got out..HD2 was the best phone on the planet earth..IMO
Android to the HD2 is far off in the future if at all.

Was probabaly the Touch HD, not the HD2
I think that HD2 was not much ruined by Tmobile installing their software on it... I have seen lots of poeple complaining about HTC Andorid based devices with Verizon - Droid and Eris... I simply cannot believe HTC would want something like that on the market. Droid is 5 times worse than my old HTC Wizard (MDA)...
Don't get me wrong - android is somewhat of a good concept and good OS - but sweet lord can branding of the carrier can ruin the phone...
I am actually pretty happy with how Tmobile kept HD2 up to speed with the manufacturer unlocked device - side by side - more memory for Tmobile HD2 and only downside is "Tmobile" sign on it - everything else seems to be same - meaning Tmobile did not ruin it... Verizon or AT&T including Tmobile would ruin the phone terribly ...
Example - AT&T ruined Nokia E71 - they castrated Nokia out of 99% of all the guts and presented it in the worse possible way - just to promote iPhone... I had E71 and it is not easily replacable... Even with HD2 I had to give up some very useful things that I am researching and slowly getting on HD2...
LOVE HD2 - go for it you won't make a mistake...
Incredible is only 3.7 inch screen where the evo4 is 4.3
Both android. Evo is bang on the same as the HD2 but android.
Still waiting for detailed specs to see bands supported.

off the top of my head, evo has an updated snapdragon (i.e. the model after sorta thing but still 1ghz), better camera (8mp i think), hdmi out and 720p recording i thinkkk. so evo is a bit better than the hd2!

I don't think evo has an "updated" snapdragon. It just has the CMDA version and not the GSM. So I wouldn't expect any real differences there.
But otherwise, evo should be the updated HD2.
I think hardware vise it ends up like so:
1) EVO
2) Incredible
3) HD2
However, HD2 vs Incredible is a question of screen size. Furthermore, you still have to look at software and carrier. In the end it all comes down to the user and then it's 'to each their own.'
Incredible = Verizon = CDMA = skip!
Not that T-Mo has much of a network...

htc hd2 trade with htc desire?

Hi everyone
usually when people make new threads about asking questions i think - come on man cant u figure out urself?
but now its my turn to ask ur opinion
So i got the hd2 since january and really i dont have any complain till now but a friend at work wants to trade his desire with my hd2..
Both phones arein same condition and work perfectly..
The question is does it worth to trade it or?
I tried several builds of android on hd2 and i see that i like android alot,
but i think till it can really be ported on our hd2 and work flawlesly we will need a bit more time..
So would you trade or wait..??

That's a tough one, I guess it comes down to what you use the phone for. Both phones are nearly identical technically but interestingly the HD2 still costs alot more unlocked.
I've used the Desire a lot and personally I'd probably stick with my HD2. The AMOLED screen on the Desire is great but I just prefer the size and contrast of the HD2's TFT screen.
Tough one though!
Yeah the hard thing is tha size matter!
Im used tpo the big screen now so i dont know if i can handle the one from desire bs its a bit smaller..
I usually use the phone for browsing, emails and a bit of music-movies -gaming..
And also calling , txting
I would go for the DESIRE ! Come on man Hd2 is just about to be burried RIP come Nov with 7 around the corner.
Why don't you too just swap the phones for a week or something and see how you like the other one. If both of you'll be happy with the new one then that's it. And of cource, if one of you don't like the "new" phone then swap them again. This way both of you will be better informed, no matter what you willl decide in the end.

Do you honestly believe the devs here will leave it at "no win7 update", it has the hardware (and two keys extra lol)
On the original post:
I got a great deal around 2 weeks ago and instead of getting a desire for 300ish eur on contract, got a HD2 for 160e
Best choice I ever made, screen size does matter
I'd keep the HD2 for its pure awesomeness and the 90% chance of getting a 7 phone for "free".
edit: also from what i've seen with my short encounters with android, it still has a bit to go no matter how good. Your hd2 is good till android 3 and phone 7 with their respective phones become available, wait it out on the phone change

cant say I agree with that, loads of old devices still have a thriving community, why wouldn't the hd2??
theres going to be plenty ofpeople with no interest in either wp7 or android....
this phones going to around for a while.......
to answer your question, I wouldn't swap.....
i wouldnt swap my hd2 for desire. i bought a legend over the desire because i already have an hd2 with its huge 4.3". its screen size is enormous and it has the processor to handle wp7 if ever it comes out. plus the hd2 has editor in office. in my opinion, i will keep the hd2.
Won't hesitate!!
I definitely would keep HD2!!!
Nothing compares with this beautifully designed massive screen!!
HD2 no doubts just have a look at ugly desire design and small screen don't even think i don't see any phone on the market which can beat Leo at this time...
I don't se the need to replace your HD2 with Desire since we can already run Android on our HD2's. Unless you don't want to use WinMo again.
yea we can run android but not 100% functionable, and thats true!
also i have a data plan wiv unlimited internet so if i boot in android the speed is crappy etc..
hopefully soon the devs can solve al the issues n it will be better..
keep the hd2. android ime is perfecrly usable on a daily basis. i find it just as fast if not faster than win mobile. battery life is same nd network speeds great. yes there are still annoying bugs. but so does win mobile. the sheer amount of apps and stuff u can do outweighs the bugs massively. plus ot only takes a few mintues to get back to win mobile.

the latest released kernals are very fast with no lag it is even faster than the desire , and remember desire don't have proper multitouch like what our hd2 have (don't believe me try multitouch apps from the market ) and with respect to the functionality the only missing thing now is the light sensor and wifi theatering and i think within two weeks we will have a fully functional kernal
Thanks guys for your replies, im convinced now..
just have to be a little patient i think till android will be 100 percent flashable..
Till then i ll enjoy the dual boot and the massive screen

Development for the Touch HD

Honest opinion. How long do you think development will continue for our phone by the great minds at xda? I mean its an older phone, WM7 is around the corner, android is rising, and everyone seems to be mimicking iphone software aka "dumbing" down the phones. Most have jumped ship to newer devices ala HD2 but even then with WM7 coming soon how long do you plan on sticking with the HD?
I'm asking this because I am contemplating moving on to the Galaxy S or SE x10 as I really dont like what I'm hearing about WM7 and there is no way I'm getting an iphone so I might sell my HD while it has as much resale value as I can. I figure once WM7 comes out the value will drop even more than it is now. At least now I can say I am running the latest and greatest WM OS out lol.
From what I've read, more and more people are opting for the HTC Desire, so it seems Android is the OS of choice over anything else out there. I have about 8mths left on my contract, so I can't switch yet, but unless something better comes out in the meantime, I'll be getting the Samsung Galaxy S - stunning phone!
I think we'll always (well, until a reasonable point) have a few chefs around - not everyone can afford the newest handsets, and we may still get one or two late-adopters who couldn't afford the HD at first
MOD EDIT - Moved to General discussion
The specs of Touch HD is very similar to HTC Hero, if Android will ever be available as a stable ROM for HD I will continue using it for a long time since its such a fantastic phone really

[Q] What to get after HD2...

Hi all
I was just wondering if you can share any comments what smartphone have best apps in 2011.
What you will buy after HD2 ?
thanks
This is a question thats on my mind at the minute as well.
The main problem for me is that Ive become so used to the 4.3" screen that I really dont think I could handle using a phone with a screen of less than 4".
Im currently torn between the DHD, Nexus S, Incredible S, Desire S or the Sensation.
Im seriously thinking about waiting until June for the sensation, my concern is the battery though. HTC seem to be pretty lax when it comes to getting optimal battery life from a phone, the sensation with its dual core and new sense (which will probably be even more of a memory hog than the old sense) is going to tear the arse out of any battery.
Theres also the issue of how long its going to take to acheive root / s-off.... (Im very impatient and will not be able to put up with sense for that long, I really dont like the android version for some reason.)
DHD, obviously very similar to the HD2 with a good amount of development going on. However, poor battery life and the age of the device put me off a little. When I upgrade I'm going to have that phone for 18 months so I feel like I should probably go for a evice thats as new as possible.
Nexus, the only thing really putting me off is the fact that its made of nasty looking shiny plastic and doesnt feel as solid as the HD2. Also not a huge selection of custom ROMS for it from what I can see, compared to some devices.
So errr yeah... lol
Well I would recommend you to watch the latest updates at MIX 11 about WP7 Mango update I think you will like it a lot. And now that DFT is bringing Custom SPL to WP7 Source: Twitter (CotullaCode)
I think Android is great, it opens many doors specially for people on XDA, but the thing is. I always think android is missing the experience. It's not fun, and it's just an OS with apps. I will use Android till the end of my contract... And when the time comes I definitely get a WP7 device. Of course an 4.3"(+) screen. Once you get a fridge phone always a fridge phone Personally I'm waiting for Nokia to join the WP7 party, I know Nokia has the best and trustworthy hardware for their phones.
I just took Nexus S, actually looks not bad but screen is noticeably smaller. I did it because I wanted to resell my HD2 while still in warranty and Samsung are offering very good discounts on the SNS in France (it costs less than the Galaxy!). When Sensation comes out and price calms down I'll resell the SNS to get that marvel. Sadly, I'm hugely missing HTC Sense...
seriously even i am kinna confused i i say i want desirehd its been already ported to hd2 & so also nexus...i hope htc comes out dual core hd2...so we can start the fun all over again i know its not possible!
But ATM its just hd2 for me!
I think HTC EVO 3D will be my next phone after HD2 TMOUS
Simple, ....Another HD2

Sadly I totaly disagree with your Nokia statement - they have lost the plot in high end phones over the last couple of years.
The N8 is a software nightmare, as was the 5800 and that range of phones.
Their new mid range phone C7 - C5 have software issues.
This is not just my view I work it Mobile technical support. Nokia are no longer the top manufacturer - they do not rate the top 5 now. Use Google and read the comments from their CEO, he says about the same!
Incredible is my next phone - if my provider supply it
I think that Iphone 4 is superior for the touch screen and for the smoothness of system...Nevertheless I'm waiting for new devices of Htc like Sensation or evo 3d to make a choice...
Samsung Galaxy S 2 anyone?
I've been wondering this too. I just bought an HD2, but of course, the phone is a year old already, and smartphones are now getting 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and dual core processors.
Before long, the HD2 is going to be out of date.
Personally, the most attractive aspect of the HD2 to me is how incredibly hackable it is. If I were to upgrade, I would hope whatever phone I upgrade to would have several OSes available to use too (as opposed to just several derivatives of the same OS).

Hit the nail on the head there brother!
The HD7 is a minor temptation, but after playing with a Mozart I found that there is no connecting to a hidden network, or as a mass storage device. A shame as everything else is very nice in WP7.
So I am keeping my eye out for hot deals on HD2's
Edit: Forgot about the non-removeable/expandable storage in WP7 (I have 32Gb in my HD2)
probably getting sensation for daily driver but will be saving this HD2 because its superphone over anything, probably ever because of OS possibilities.
If there doesnt come any other better phones than sensation I will be getting it when it releases.

this or the htc sensation, im tempted to save the money and buy an s2 with the tegra 2 chip. It seems like tegra 2 will be widely supported and it'll have games optimised for it also it may lead to the phone being cracked faster.
For me there realy isnt any phone that beats HD2 (still). Im a WM6.1 ,WM6.5.x fanboy. the only hing that I miss at HD2 is harwware keyboard. but other then that it still is the perfect phone in my opinion. I never oliked phones that you get bored of quickly. HD2 has alot of development going on xda. you can have numerous OSes running on it. It never gets boring. I probably will not change my phone before there is realy something special (no, galaxy S 2 isnt special enough ).
At the moment I'm still torn between different OS's(ssssss). I've been warming to WinPho 7, but after reading over on Pocket Now about some of the things that might STILL be missing even after the Mango update later this year, I don't think I can wait. http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-7-mango-the-missing-features No smart dialing, no flash support in the browser? What on earth are Microsoft doing?
Having said I can't wait for Microsoft to get their act together, if I could stick a super LCD in my HD2 and a better camera sensor, I would happily keep it for another year or two until quad core chips are out and are selling at reasonable money.
The Sensation will be such a rip-off SIM-free here in the UK this summer I couldn't bring myself to buy one; there'll be much better and more efficient hardware out by the end of '11, beginning '12 ; )
G2x
Stock Android
Tegra Dual Core
4g
Supports a WIDE range of spectrums and supports ATT 3g along with T-Mobile's 4g and 3g
All screen and no keyboard.
It's literally future proof (since ATT will be eating Tmobile soon)
The SGS2 looks better than the Sensation in terms of specs?
