Exchange - No on/off peak? - Legend General

Hi
Just got this great phone, and its great. I really like android OS.
I've gotten exchange setup, but i can't find any setting for on/off peak sync. I want mail to be delivered at once in work hours, and manual after work.
Is this even possible?

I'm running the a Legend Rom on my Hero, looked for that option but it doesn't seem to be available.
But, On one of the roms I tried before, I really can't remember, could be the Eris leaked rom, or most possibly one of the Vanilla roms (no HTC Sense) the option was there in Accounts and Sync settings. You could set working days and hours and have different sync frequencies between working and non-working hours.
It's a shame if HTC would disable this very improtant function.

the option isn't here, just got the legend since a few days and loving it.
You can tell it in what interval it's going to check mail. Another option i found usefull is to turn of autosync for all items/widgets/apps and get the widget from HTC autosync all on your main screen.

Ok thanks... then I wasn't blind Since "all" smartphones have the option of setting on and off peak, I hoped the option were hidden somewhere

Maby Roadsync will support this... But since Paid apps isn't available in my country, i can't buy it

Great stuff
Thanks for the info

Davideuck V3 and email

I am a bit confused so hoping somebody can help me out, I have updated to davideuck V3 rom and I know that the ROM only runs activesync when required. I have also read in a few threads that activesync does something with email and it may be the cause of my problem.
Basically before I updated from stock rom my email was set to sync every 30mins which it did as long as it is not in standby,so if I used the phone after one hour this caused the emails to sync as the phone is out of standby. Now the only way is to manually go in and click send/recieve.
I would love to get it working even in standby but want atleast to get it to check when phone is active.
One other thing I have noticed is that when I click email there are 3 email envolopes even though I only have 2 accounts setup, clicking the first envolope does nothing the other toggle between my 2 accounts.
<little rant>I am a bit dissappointed with the phone as it seems like a mega task for it to do basic things like my n95 would do. Hope HTC or MS pull their finger out and fix some of the basic functions. </little rant>
Thanks in advance
Sully
Got it sorted not sure if it hard rest or flashing a newer radio. The phone now checks email even in standby

[Recomendation]32b ROM with activesync and hero people.apk without the rest(slowness)

I am looking for a ROM that is fast first and foremost; but would love something with the hero message, microsoft activesync (as apposed to just work email)and the people apk's.
Is there anything like that. I love hero, but can't deal with the laggyness. I am currently on the full signed hero v2 right now. It is stable, but hangs for up to a minute total at times to dial a number.
THANKS
I am on a mt3g with 32b ROMs
If you need active sync for Exchange get Touchdown. It's worth it.
I'm running Qtek with compcache on myTouch. It has the default launcher, so I clear defaults on touchflo and select Home. I am picky about lag, but this rom has been good enough for me for 2 days now.
I really like touchdown as well - the only shortcoming I see with it is the integrated calendar. I like a single view to see work and personal calendar events. If touchdown or roadsync managed to do that, I'd go after the fastest non-hero I could.

[Feb 2011] [Q] Recurring Dates in Calendar

I've set recurring calendar entries (Birthdays, etc) in my Calendar. Now with the new year, they are not showing up in this years calendar.... but if I go back to the original date and edit the entry, it definitely shows as a recurring event.
Consequently, I'm missing out on notifications of upcoming events, as they have not recurred over to the new year correctly.
How can I force the calendar entries to re-appear correctly, without having to manually re-enter all the entries again (which defeats the purpose of having a "recurring" setting)
I'm using the Stock 1.44 WWE ROM with Cookies v1 Home Tab to show multiple calendar entries on the homescreen. No other tweaks or registry changes have been made.
Just for future reference, You have no need to tag your topics with date/year, That is for posting ROM/Build releases not general questions/discussion.
Do you get same issue on different roms or just this one?
Thanx Atheist.... I thought was doing the right thing after reading the "Mandatory" thread !!!
Only ever used the official Roms so far... not sure I'm ready to take the step into cooked Roms, until at least the original 12mth warranty is up.
I've found the thread here regarding setting up Google synch, which i've just done. Seems to have solved all the issues I was having
Would be cool though, if you could multi-select appointments (like birthdays, for example) and change settings on them as a global thing (eg, if I want to set up a generic SMS reminder 1 Day and 1 Week prior to the event... it's TEDIOUS to open up every birthday entry to set them)

Ahh yes you are correct, my bad. tbh its a silly thing to ask espesially since newbies/n00bs have trouble posting in correct section or reading stickies etc. (btw, not calling you a n00b, just speaking in general).

Installing cooked roms (espesially wm) is very easy and you can also revert back to stock rom/spl etc and your warrenty is intact.
Only thing you need to worry about is flashing incorrect radio as that can brick your device, plenty of info and guides to read though, you should definatley have a good read, you can really bring your phone to life with cooked roms.

Well I havent used WM6.5 regulary for nearly a year now so cant really help on this.
Have a really good read though and try some roms, its really easy.
And once you are confident you should 100% get Android on there
Cheers Mate,
Took the plunge last nite and installed my first cooked Rom... Energy/NRG. F**k me it's pretty !!!!!
Still going thru learning how it all works and setting it all up to my specs. Having a few little issues with Active Synch for the calendar with the google/Gmail calendar I set up yesterday.
As described above, I managed to get the calendar synched up yesterday, with the stock Rom... but I am getting an "Invalid Security Certificate on Server" error on the NRG Rom, after following the same process of setting up the synch to google/gmail.
I know this isn't the right place probably to ask for help on THAT particular issue... but since it relates to my original question here, can anyone help on this please?
Error code is 0x80072F06
I've (FINALLY - TOOK FOREVER) managed to synch everything else with MS MyPhone... just need to synch the calendar with my google/gmail calendar.... but Active Synch (when phone is NOT connected physically by USB)... I can press the "Synch" button and A/S attempts to synch, then returns the above error.
If the phone is docked by USB and I attempt to synch, A/S just sits there and does nothing.
Pressing the "Menu" button reveals ONLY the "Status" option available to select.... all of the other options are greyed out and un-selectable.
I've just worked out what I did wrong..... instead of putting the Server as m.google.com, i accidentally put it as m.gmail.com ....... resulting in the certificate error message
OOPS !!!
Recurring Dates
Check HTC Support Downloads, you will see an update that fixes this very issue.
You will also see a 3.14 ROM, Oct2010 I think, that includes the update and some others in it.

Cannot reproduce WM functionality

Dear experienced androiders.
I am new to the platform after 4 years on WM and Nokia S60 before that. It may be my naivity, but so far, although I am loving the hardware and big screen browsing on the DHD, I am struggling to reproduce some of the functionality I have used for the past 6 years on WM and S60.
1) Video calling over 3G network (i.e. not fring or similar apps that use data). The cost of video calls is really cheap where I live, and for my elderly mother it is the ideal way to regularly show her the grandchildren. I am gobsmacked that this is not part of Android when it was part of my S60 phone I got 6 years ago, and both WM handsets that followed.
2) Ring once. Rather than constantly switching between meeting and normal modes, I prefer to set my phone to ring once. If in a meeting and I chose to ignore, it is not very irritating to others as it stops after a single ring, while I still hear it at all times if I want to answer. Now again, I imagined this was a stock feature of all OS's, but cannot find on Android.
3) GPS. One of the main reasons I was keen on the DHD was I read a press release about them teaming up with TomTom and Route 66 and that all maps would be free and could be downloaded to the handset and turn-by-turn instructions were available. I am dismayed that the turn-by-turn is a premium service that requires extra cash, but even in the interim while using the 30-day trial, it comes nowhere close to the TomTom software I had on my last three phones. I cannot easily see why the GPS is not locking by looking at the satellites etc, crucial information is missing from the display, all in all just an inferior product.
4) Multitasking. I hate not being able to flip to another application and back again without the application randomly deciding that I am relaunching it. Part of the problem is not having hardware buttons - I used t have an task mananager hooked to one of my hardware keys on WM, and if I wanted to flip back to my home screen to check something, and then back to the app, it was a simple press of the hardware key. I have read that one should not use taskkillers on Android, but find the built in functionality not very intuitive, including the holding down the home button.
5) Cannot get autosync to sync with gmail but not contacts and calendar. I have problems when my calendar entries from my corporate mail are synced to google and all attendees get reinvited, and do not want to sync contacts, as gmail harvests all sorts of contacts I don't want on my phone. But as soon as I allow gmail to autosync the mail, then the other two also sync.
6) Data autodisconnect. I had my WM set up in such a way that as soon as the data connection was idle, the 3G or Edge connection was dropped. I then set up all applications to sync infrequently or only use data when triggered manually, and was able to ensure excellent battery life. I have found toggles to stop data altogether, or juice defender to allow connections at particular times, but cannot find a way to reproduce the autodisconnect functionality. As soon as I enable data connections the phone connects, even if I have set everything not to sync in the background.
I hope that there are ways of accomplishing all of these things. I know one should not pass judgement until one has spent a decent amount of time with a new phone or OS, but I wonder for now if I am alone in mourning the passing of WM6.x?
Thanks for any advice any of you can offer to get my DHD set up to at minimum reproduce previous functionality.
Hi and welcome to Android.

The DHD doesn't have a front facing camera so does not support video calling over 3G/H. Some workaround may be possible with custom ROM's using the rear camera.
2) Ring once. Rather than constantly switching between meeting and normal modes, I prefer to set my phone to ring once. If in a meeting and I chose to ignore, it is not very irritating to others as it stops after a single ring, while I still hear it at all times if I want to answer. I understand this one, having to switch profiles for meetings then switching back becomes a bit of a ball ache. I use an app called Tasker, this allows me to set a profile that reads my calendar and switches to silent when I am in a meeting, it then switches back when the meeting is over. Obviously this requires that all meetings are in my calendar and have start & finish times. I also set it to put my DHD into silent mode if my handset is facing down for 1 minute. As for the ring once only, there may be an app available in the Market.
3) GPS. One of the main reasons I was keen on the DHD was I read a press release about them teaming up with TomTom and Route 66 and that all maps would be free and could be downloaded to the handset and turn-by-turn instructions were available. Since my first Android handset (HTC Hero) I purchased CoPilot for around £30 off the Market and it works flawlessly, and as its tied to your Google Account whenever you upgrade you can download it again free of charge and it works again. No need to purchase another copy. Other than that Google Navigation provides turn by turn directions, and that's free.
What apps are you using that this occurs? I often switch between XDA, Browser, Gmail, Messaging, Calendar, Market and it picks up where I left off. This is by holding the Home key and selecting the relevant app. You are correct about the task killers, you really don't need to use them.
5) Cannot get autosync to sync with gmail but not contacts and calendar. I have problems when my calendar entries from my corporate mail are synced to google and all attendees get reinvited, and do not want to sync contacts, as gmail harvests all sorts of contacts I don't want on my phone. Not sure exactly what you mean in the first sentence. If you wish to sync only Gmail then you need to only allow Gmail. Settings > Accounts & Sync > Tap your Google Account > Deselect everything you don't want.
6) Data autodisconnect. I had my WM set up in such a way that as soon as the data connection was idle, the 3G or Edge connection was dropped. I then set up all applications to sync infrequently or only use data when triggered manually, and was able to ensure excellent battery life. Again not sure what you mean as you set everything to sync when triggered manually on WM, and when you enable data on Android everything connects and sync's. Isn't that manually triggered? Juice defender has a paid addon Ultimate Juice, this allows you to further refine the criteria at which data is disconnected and enabled. Otherwise I am sure you can create a profile with the Tasker app, it's very versatile and can do practically anything.
Hope this answers a few of your questions.
6) go for juicedefender.
I came from wm just two months ago, and I know your feeling but after a few weeks android to me is like wm 6.5+++ You can do the same things as on wm just a lot better, or different but better. Yes no Tom Tom, but google navigation is better in some ways and lacks in some, but it is free. (try driving on the real photo view.. Fantastic..)

Thanks for the responses
1) Still useful with a rear camera for showing the grandchildren. Apparently galaxy S has this functionality and also gingerbread. Can anyone confirm if it is in the gingerbread roms for DHD on the other forum?
3) No google navigation where I live (South Africa). Co-Pilot tempting, but reviews suggest inferior routing compared to TomTom.
5) cannot find a way of deselecting for autosync, only of manually syncing each one (contacts, calendar, mail) separately
6) Thanks for tasker and juice defender suggestions, still getting to know them
What I should have included in the list is bluetooth activated voice dialing which seems not to work in stock DHD but apparently does in Leedroid, though I have not tried a cooked ROM yet.

[Q] Convince me to switch to Android!

Hello my friends. Thank you in advanced for any help/input you give.
Here's my thing.. I am an avid M$er (yes I know, but I get as much good from it as the bad). I'm a professional IT guy, and I run my home network on Enterprise lvl MS Server software and Windows on all PCs.
I have been using WinMo since the days of PPC, so I know the software. I decided to give WP7 a test run (even knowing the limitations) a couple months ago, and still am disappointed. Unfortunately I got stuck with it till now, because just after I installed it my personal Exchange server crashed. It's significant because it holds all of my contact info and schedule (for backup and retrieval when I change roms), so I had to wait till I had time and patience to recover the server and my database, which left me with my only current copy of info on the phone as it couldn't get pushed back to the server to store (I never put my info online so no uploading it wasn't an option for me).
Finally exchanger recovered, its time for me to be rid of this headache of a mobile OS and initially I was going to go back to my favorite HD2 WM6.5.3 rom, but when I finally visited the thread, I came back to realize my fav rom cooker is no longer developing for my device..
So I'm faced with the choices of still using the most current from my fav cooker, finding another WM cooker and get acquainted, or try out Android seriously for a little while at least (I've had it on SD from the beginning, but not definitively explored it).
My main thing is it has to connect to my servers. That's my bread and butter so to speak. I need it to connect to my Exchange and sync seamlessly contact and schedule (main things, but would definitely like as much sync as possible), but never upload my info to Google or anywhere else. So my first proviso is can it do that? (please remember I've never seriously explored Android for this intent), and can you provide info on it?
On remote desktopping and file sharing, like I said I have enterprise lvl servers so my network is high lvl security, can it connect to this kind of network (with certs from my CA)?
Third important thing to me, and one of the big reasons I dislike WP7, the interface. I'm in lust with HTC's sense from WM6.5 roms. Absolutely like it. Is there a way to at least mimic this sense? I've been missing the at-a-glance full screen weather updates soo much too.
Aside from those things, Android on HD2 already has a plus from me for having flash, my favorite IM program (Trillian), and the wifi calling (I live in an area where I don't get service till I'm miles from home).
So with those things in mind, can someone recommend Android to me, and possibly give me as much info as they can on the features that are most important to me? Again, I've played with Android, only a little (American Android currently), and mostly to help clients and friends out.
Thanks again for your help

Thank you PresidentMcCain that is very favorable info. So my question is now, if I set Exchange up as primary email, then add my google account, will it try to sync my exchange contacts with google?
Have you looked at Appbrain website - you can explore all the apps on the market with a good description.
Im new to android (from long standing 6.5 use) and im extremly impressed, using sd method so i can fall back on 6.5 if i need it (), but it wont be long before its ditched.
You can choose specifically what or what not to sync with Google the first time when you boot up the ROM or in the Settings.
Using the "Email" app will not sync with Google servers unless you choose to forward your mail to your Gmail account (duh).
Thanks again. So what about calendar and other info synced with exchange, one note, sharepoint ect?
You can sync your contacts, tasks, messages and calendar from exchange (all of it, or you can choose which sections to sync), and it will never share it with Google for no reason (in fact you would have to explicitly copy the info yourself using import/export methods). It's worth noting that Google accounts themselves actually use exchange so both work similarly.

Thanks kbm, I didn't know about the site. But that will be very helpful if I switch.
Thanks Atomix86, That puts to rest my questions about connecting and syncing with my exchanger. Very helpful info indeed.
Anyone have any thoughts about the rest?

No problem at all, let me know if you need any more help.
Looking at the link PresidentMcCain posted, I realized the info was for Exchange 2003 and 2007. Will this also help for connecting to Exchange 2010 as well? That is what my exchange server is, and remembering a friend who just got a Mytouch 4g recently was having a problem connecting to Exchange 2010 with the default app.

Maybe this might help. I read it this morning than came across this thread.
i dont know about exchange accounts. So if this is what you needed than its all good.
Thanks czarsuperstar, that app would help with note syncing, but looks like not for connecting to Exchange 2010 in general.
I was on winmo for a while and loved it to be honest but i went to sd android back in January an the google syncs convinced me and not long after i got nand and Ive not once looked back, i went back on winmo about a month ago just to see whats new etc and think i had it on for about 20 miutess before i flashed android straight back so its always worth a shot so id test the sd builds first to get your own opinion and then build on from there
Good luck and enjoy the future....
