[32A] MMS and 3G cannot work simultaneously - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hello,
I'm a happy (well, more on that later) user of HTC Magic powered by CursorSense 1.2.6.1 and i have quite a problem with getting MMS messages while being connected to 3g network.
- i cannot send/recieve MMS messages when connected to 3G network
- i can send/recieve MMS messages when connected to WiFi and/or disconnected from 3g network
- Settings are ok, they're working fine on friend's HTC Hero (stock 1.5), using my sim card
- i have tried setting 'default' in 'apn type' account as well as leaving it blank
- while trying to get the MMS message i can see the 3G icon disappear for a brief second which would indicate that the phone tries to use second apn (the one for mms), but fails
- i have tried combining 2 profiles into one, did not work
- i have tried reflashing the ROM after full wipe
- it used to work, but suddenly stopped
- i have tried handcent, stompsms and built in messaging app
- i'm not using apndroid
- i have tried calling HTC help desk, told me to check my apn settings, same thing was said by my orange help desk
Anyone had a problem like that and got the solution?
I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

First, you should check you apn setting.
Then try this: use "phone" and input *#*#4636#*#*
Phone information ->go to the last line"toggle DNS check" 0.0.0.0, if it is not allowed, please convert it to allowed.
like this:
0.0.0.0 not allowed ->0.0.0.0 allowed
Good luck!

holy ****.. i never knew about this.. thanks dude..

thank you stuart2008.
I have changed the setting you have mentioned to allow dns check but situation is still the same.
I've made some screenshots, i hope they're helpful.

OK, try this:
in the "Access Point Names",
select "MMs Orange",
then go to the last line"APN type", select it.
Change "mms" to "default", press "ok",
press "menu", select "save"
Then you will back to the forth picture's interface, select the round bottun behind the "MMs Orange".
Remember, when you want to use internet, you must change back to "Orange Internet"
Hope this is useful to you!

Thank you for your reply.
I am fully aware of how to enable MMS or Internet access, the thing is that i want them both working at the same time.
I don't even have to set mms apn to default i only have to disable my regular internet apn for MMS' to work.
Still, i cannot use both services at the same time.

I just had a customer with a non-3.5mm Mytouch 3G that wasn't recieving MMSs. I found this thread, toggled the DNS check to allow, and it fixed the problem. T-Mobile tech support has been working with her to fix this problem for a while and even replaced her phone once already. Thanks for helping me solve her problem!!

Mms help needed please

Hiya
Ok so ive had my x1 a couple of weeks now and love it to bits, however im really struggling with mms and wondered if anyone else has the same problem or if theres a tweak for it
Im on three network in the UK, and have got all the right settings on it .. I can send sms, and can connect to the internet via my network, but when I try to send an mms it will let me compose it but wont send. It just sits in my outbox looking pretty but refuses to go!
Any help would be greatly appreciated .. thanks
Mella
Go into you sms\mms folder (where your sms's are)
Go Menu. MMS Options
Goto the Servers tab and check that it is using the correct mms server
You have to create a new connection for mms, and set it to default for mms so it changes connection when sending mms messeges
Hiya
Yeh I have the three mms settings and they are set as default, but it still wont go .. any more ideas guys?
Check the following, but change telstra to three:
Go to Start, Settings, Connections, then Connections again.
Go to the Advanced tab
Choose Select Network
Change the second drop down box to Telstra MMS
Make sure you soft reset after making these changes
If you are still stuck give the x1 support hotline a call. They have fixed a few problems for me.
Most operators have a service that sends you the mms settings through a text message. The phone can then automatically pick that up and config it.
Some operators don't support the X1 yet though.
Hi buzz, thanks for getting back to me again!
It doesnt give me that option in that box unfortunately .. I debranded my phone using the uk rom
I dont get how it will let me browse the internet using three internet settings yet not send an mms through them, and ive checked my mms settings so many times. Aggghhhrrr its driving me crazy!
Ooooh wheres the help line number? I think thats going to be my next option ..

Yes unfortunately three dont support this phone so will not send me the settings, but ive found the settings online aswell as checking through my previous phone so im 99% sure im doing it right
Ok, you need to make a new connection in that menu for the second drop down box.
The first drop down box should say Three Internet (or similar).
Click the "new" button below the second drop down box and use these settings:
3 MMS settings
Access Point Name: mms.three.co.uk
Username: blank
Password: blank
Gateway IP (proxy) address: 217.171.129.2
MMS Message (Relay) Server URL: http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc
Then go into your SMS/MMS inbox and check that 3 MMS is your default mms server.
Last of all... soft reset and you should be right.
Woohoo it worked it sent it!
My last phone wasnt half as technical as this so its taking me a while to learn the ins and outs, but im determined to perservere as I love it so much.
Buzz your an angel .. Thank you so much for your help
Mella
No worries.
Make sure you keep these settings somewhere (especially if you are flashing new roms).
It took me a while to get my mms settings working (no thanks to telstra), but I'm always happy to help.

Multiple APN use on Cyanogen 3.4

Hi,
Im using Cyanogen's 3.4 ROM with Hero Theme 1.3.5 and can not for the life of me figure out how MMS is supposed to work simultaneously with data/internet.
I have 2 separate access points configured on the phone, one for the internet and one for MMS.
If i create an MMS whilst the internet APN has the green radio button next to it checked it will not send. However if i go into the APN settings in the phone and check the radio button next to MMS i can send and receive it with no problems but can no longer browse the internet over GPRS / 3G
there is no settings in messages to tell the application which APN to use and it appears that in its current state, the phone is not smart enough to swap over temporarily to the correct APN and then swap back, it has to manually be done.
Is anyone else having this problem or is there something i am missing to get the phone using both APN's at the same time?
Thanks in advance.
Try setting the apn type to "mms" for the MMS one. The checkbox will dissapear, sa that might mean you can no longer manually select it, since it will be selected automatically
Ok i tried that and your right, it did remove the check box. but it didn't fix the problem unfortunately. just for good measure i changed my internet APN to have the APN type and that didnt work. so i removed it, left the MMS APN with the APN type of MMS, powercycled and tried again, still didnt work
Got any other ideas? is anyone able to replicate it? Cheers
You could try to use "default" for the Internet apn type, along with "mms" for the mms one. Other than that.. try searching the internet for the settings.

Unable to send attachments via SMS

Hi all,
Got my HD2 yesterday and have been busy doing the various tweaks, regedits etc and so far so good.
However ive run into my first real problem. I cannot bluetooth data to my wifes phone and i also cannot send sms with audio or video attachments.
I get a dialling connection popping up advising that its trying to dial from "mobile" and i have an option to "dismiss" but the message keeps popping up until i finally get a message saying that the original sms failed to send.
I can send normal sms and emails fine. Just sms with file attachments fail me.
Any ideas?
BTW im with o2!
Sms with file attachment, do you mean maybe MMS?

LMAO yeah sorry!
Not got my brain engaged today!
its probably something to do with the MMS settings. check with your network make sure they're correct. Its rare, but sometimes a network will change settings and HTCs defaults will be out of date.
As for bluetooth, try pairing the devices using a simple 4 numerical password, complex passwords can be incompatible with some devices. Also try reversing which device is host/visible....I hate bluetooth sometimes
Think i have the settings from another site.
Now ive no idea where to go on my hd2 to input all the settings?
Anyone give me a pointer as to where i configure the mms?
Tut tut, no-one ever reads the manual anymore
One trick you could try (assuming you can connect to the internet over the phone) is update the database of settings on the phone. Scroll over to the settings menu > Wireless Controls > Data Connection, Make sure you have the correct country and network selected already. If so click Menu > Update Database> Update Database. Reboot your phone and see if it works.
Ok assuming that didn't work and you still having MMS problems you can check your MMS settings by scrolling over to the SMS/MMS menu > All Messages>Menu>Settings>Options>Menu>MMS Server. Select the server you want to use or make a new server, you can input your MMS settings in there.
I have the following config in my mms settings for o2:
Server name: 02 active MMS
IP address: 193.113.200.195
Port No: 8080
Server address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Connect via; o2 active
Send limit: 300KB
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
When i try and send an mms the following happens:
Popup box saying:
Cannot connect
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason (then loads of other txt)
and then 2 options at the bottom a blue "settings" link and a "dismiss" option.
When i click on settings it takes me to a connections menu where i the following options:
My work network:
Add a modem connection
Add a new vpn server connection
setup my proxy server
Manage existing connections
and then 2 tabs at the bottom for tasks and advanced.

I've got exactly the same settings as you, and it just worked for me. Check with O2 - they may have a problem at their end, or something switched off for you.
Well ive got a 16gb card coming this week so once i get that im going to do a hard reset and set everything up properly (just been messing so far) and then see what happens. If not then ill phone o2.
I forgot to mention that i inputted those settings but in the "connect via:" drop down menu i have no option for "o2 active"
I just have work network, mms network, home network etc.

Did you try letting the phone set up your connection settings for you, as suggested by jagnet?

I don't really know what to say. I just followed his instructions word for word, and it worked fine for me. Where are you having trouble? At the first instruction, or part way through? How far do you get before you get something you can't do?
When i click on data connection i get the same error msg pop up saying "cannot connect"
then options to dismiss or a blue settings link
Ok now sorted. I deleted all my mms settings, went to data connection under wireless controls, made sure it was set to UK and o2 post pay and then made sure auto configuration was selected.
It updated my settings, just rebooted and tried an mms and all working fine!

Okay, this sounds like it's a data connection issue, rather than an MMS issue, as clicking "Data connection" will simply try to turn it on (if it's off).
Try this and let me know how you get on...
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup.
Make sure that the correct country and O2 are selected and click OK.
See if you still have the same problem.
If you do, I suspect that you can't do this next step, but it's worth a try.
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
It should either tell you that your settings have been updated, or that you already have the most updated settings.
If it said they've been updated, go back to the country and provider screen, make sure it's the right selections and click OK.

The one thing that was throwing me was this part:
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
I dont have that option under the menu. I just get:
Enable Auto Configuration
About
Exit

Very strange - I don't know why that would be. It's a way to ensure that you have the latest settings for your provider, and obviously quite useful when you have connection issues.
Never heard of it not being available though. At least you got the problem sorted without needing it!

MMS sending failed?

Hello,
I searched this forum, but I was unable to find a similar discussion: do you have issues when trying to send an MMS? I'm unable to send, the message that keeps bothering me is: "Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed..." etc. I tried looking at the connection settings, but the MMS ones look ok. Also, all other connections (internet, weather, etc) work ok.
Any idea?
OK, I've done some research and it seems the issue is with the HTC Messaging app that completly replace the WinMo one. For my network operator settings to work, I need to enter the following information: MMS server IP: port AND server address (http://wap.mms.orange.ro:8002).
They instruct me to enter them by selecting Start-Messaging-SMS/MMS Options - but this is obviously WinMo messaging application, which seems inaccesible due to the HTC one!
Any help on this?
HTC messaging - settings - options
menu - mms server.
Found it - thanks. The settings were already configured (probably due to Automatic configuration run when the phone first booted) - so the problem is still here.
Any idea if "Connect via" makes any difference? Now Orange MMS is selected; should I try to select a data profile (i.e. the one used by Opera)?
Yes, it should connect via whatever the standard data profile is.

Vodafone UK MMS settings

Hi all, despite searching and trying lots of things out I have stuffed up my settings a bit, and now have a permanent 'sending mms' message - but anyway.
I am trying to set up my vodafone UK MMS settings. I believe I have the correct settings under MMS options (It did work briefly) but the bit I am struggling with is how to setup the parts under conenctions. When I got MMS working it broke Opera's net access over 3G. Truing to fox that with many cabs etc has left me very confused and now back to having everything workinge xcept MMS.
If I set the network conenction setup manager it creates Contract Internet and My Work Network (but the latetr seems to have no settings).
I have gone round in circles for a few days and so would be grateful for any advice or cab that sets this up properly - I had my own for O2 but am struggling here.
Cheers for any help.
Did you even try Vodafone's website?
this page:
http://help.vodafone.co.uk/system/s...&PARENT_TOPIC_TYPE=0&SOURCE_FORM=BROWSE_TOPIC
at top right has links to pdf's for tp2 detailing mail, internet, wap and MMS.
Go methodically through all 4 and you should be sorted.
Thank you - yes I did try that exact page on my travels before posting.
Part of the issue may be that I am using a 6.5.x Rom and the layout is not quite the same as that envisaged in the instructions I think.
I am trying again but as I said - I have tried this way already.
EDIT - still struggling - could someone with this working on a 6.5.x ROM walk me through their conenctions setup under settings (I have the MMS Options part I am sure).
aha... so it's normal connection settings you need
I have an Xperia on Vodafone on which i'm running a 6.5 Energy Rom . I manually tweak my settings as below... dunno if this will be of any help to you...
settings>connections>connections>advanced tab>select networks>select "contract internet" in top drop down>edit
> you should have a "contract internet" modem with number "internet" listed under modem; if not add it from your internet setting pdf.
>ADD wap settings as a new modem under the "CONTRACT INTERNET" settings (should be in your WAP setup pdf) (make sure no proxy set)(so you now have Auto Pick selected)> OK
on network management page for BOTH connections select "Contract Internet">ok>ok
go into std windows messaging client>on account selector screen select sms/mms>menu>mms options>servers>select whatever is there (Contract MMS in my case)>change "connect via" to "contract internet">OK
and I THINK that's all i do..
for anywhere you can select the connection use the "Contract Internet" option we've previously setup to auto switch between 3g and wap as needed.
hope that is of help...
Buff
Trying this now - but that looks like exactly what I was looking for (in terms of what to put in where) so if this does not work then I am stumped!
Cheers for the help.
EDIT: Still no joy - it just sits there telling me it is sending the message but never going past 0%
Will try this after a clean flash when TPC puts up his next rom - or might quickly flash the 17/3 energy rom.
Update:
I have sent a message - hurrah.
This seems to be related to the fact I enabled 3g. I usually turn off 3g to save battery, and live on Edge. Do you ned 3G for MMS to work on vodafone? Or was this a coincidence?
Just saw last post as i was typing more suggestions- woohoo!
I always leave 3g enabled BUT for me I travel an hour and a half to work on train and the reception is very variable, so leave all possible connections enabled, sometimes one drops when the other doesn't.
I'm not that bothered by battery life; energy roms get me easily a couple of days which means i never really consider power an issue.
but i don't think mms SHOULD be 3g related (unless it's something to do with the implementation of MMS on your sense 2.5 rom... hmmm)
I do believe that, thanks to your help, I now have this sorted!
It was all about which way to have things et up under the network management tab really - I was putting the wap conenction as a different heading rather than a modem under the normal one.
Anyway, following the latest EnergROM flash last night I have got it working again!
Thanks a lot for the help.
I am going to try and make a provisioning cab that will sort it all and will post it if I finish it. Its setting the default connections on the network management tab that might stump me but we will see - there are plenty of examples around - its just a question of time. the MMS settings are just a reg export as well.
